Beautiful beach and very well kept from the water to the sand. Some come to fish right where the water breaks, the rest just walk up and down along the sand. You can't always get in the water due to the high bacteria levels, even though it does look clean and clear, it unfortunately is not. But even when it's deemed safe to swim, I would never get into the water here in Baja. There are some areas where there's a little bit of trash but it's way high up past where you walk. It kind of looks like there's some spots where people hang out at night with fire pits, and then leave their bit of trash behind. Along the way you'll see a high condo like building that was abandoned and unfinished where there's some big dirt heaps that's now used by dirt bikers as a ramp. And apparently you can actually drive right onto the sand, but we did see a big truck almost get stuck, so best to have a 4x4 if you're gonna drive your way to the water. read more

We came to Rosarito on a cruise excursion. We took a bus about two hours away and spent the day at the beach. This beach had a restaurant,cabanas, massages, and music! Everything was excellent except for the weather. It did eventually clear up later in the day and we had a proper beach day! I had Chilaquiles for breakfast, tacos for lunch, churros for dessert, and margaritas and piña colada's all day! There were beautiful jellyfish washed a shore. We even found a pearl! The cliffside was beautiful, with sprawling homes, and amazing landscape. I love Mexico! read more

This is basically our getaway when the mood moves us. As far as safety, agree with most reviews, don't do anything dumb (ahh I wish I could say more, but I won't) stay in the paid highways, don't go where your not familiar & night time with caution. We never travel at night. It's all about the food, beaches, resorts, bars for the youngsters & so much more too much to list. Visit if you're not fearful. Lol someone once told me that Olvera Street and Old San Diego was enough for them and there was no need to go here. You can not compare those two areas to this or anywhere Baja. This is a beach town about 20 min past the Tijuana border. Because this town is so close to the border it is very commercialized and popular with tourist for the beaches/surfing/resorts. You can find a Walmart, Starbucks, Smart and Final just to name a few US stores (hence the commercialized part) There are UBER drivers but no LYFT drivers. Tons of street vendors selling anything from Tamales and atole, to huaraches and knick knacks. You can ride horses and or camels LOL Go ATV riding The beaches are are awesome, the white sand is soothing to your feet. The coastline has amazing views. We stayed at an Airbnb, I could hear the waves hitting the sand. So tranquil and relaxing. If you want to party, there are plenty of bars and clubs available. I love to drive down to Rosarito Beach and the neighboring fishing village of Popotla, just south of town. There, you will find store after store of fun ceramics to bring back to your house and garden. In fact, the ceramic pumpkins and pottery on my front entranceway to my house to greet the kids tonight who will be trick-or treating at Halloween are all from these very shops. read more

For those folks that have never set foot in Baja, Rosarito is the small town that sits just 15 minutes south of Tijuana. Accessed via highway 1, it has many great bars and restaurants sitting on the beachfront. As a beach city kid, I love coming here. My personal favorite place is Papas and Beer, which has a sizable seating area overlooking the coastline. The main avenue sits a few blocks east of the coast, and has many small restaurants and coffee shops. I recommend exploring these places, as many boast good food and even better coffee. You'd be surprise at what you'd find. Nighttime, there is a good party scene here as well. The bars here are known to be open into the early morning (4 AM). In my experience, you'll run into more tourists than locals, but you'll get a few people coming in from TJ and Ensenada as well. Contrary to what the news networks say back home, Baja is not that dangerous. It all depends on how you carry yourself. Just don't do anything dumb and don't mess with people, and you'll be fine. read more

This was a fun event (Tequila Expo) we made the stop before venturing to Puerto Nuevo and then to Ensenada! It was the May 2019 weekend as we went to Mexico for a birthday celebration. Drinks were strong and then ended up with some mixed drinks and they were great as they are not shy with tajin! We didn't stay long and ventured around La Playas after We got our drinks and then walked around the shops for souvenirs and then we went horseback riding down the beach... the only downfall is my poor horse got beat because he had a mind of his own and didn't want to stay with the pack which could've been my fault in pulling the wrong way I felt so bad. Our birthday girl ended up taking the tequila infused snake shot! See pics! read more

Rosarito has an INDELIBLE CHARM to it! Particularly the beaches. There's a CONSTANT STREAM OF VENDORS who come by and ask whether you want your hair braided, or purchase an embroidered bracelet with your name, or purchase 2 beers for $7 at the local bar for the privilege of sitting at one of the umbrellaed tables. If you think that's all charming, then all the power to you! However, it can also be just downright ANNOYING! As we approached the beach, there were local bars like Papas & Beers that were just blasting music on an afternoon where there were no young partygoers in sight. We crossed all the lined tables and chairs and were able to purchase freshly made churros on the beach. Now the churros were delicious! There were carts selling coconut drinks and other fruits lined along the beach, where we purchased one for $5 and were permitted to sit at the plastic umbrellaed tables for 20 minutes. Nothing like enjoying a fresh coconut drink on a peaceful beach by yourself and... WAIT! Another vendor just interrupted the mood! There's GOOD FOOD throughout too! The tacos nearby were EXCELLENT! As we walked past the shops on the streets, the vendors tried to coax us into their shops. Unfortunately, their method needs a lot of refining because they made some assumptions of our ethnicity and started speaking basic greetings in non-English/Spanish foreign languages. The MICROAGGRESSIONS actually felt ingratiating. So yeah, its uniqueness has a bit of charm to it! If you can ignore the annoyances, Rosarito might be worth returning! MAYBE. read more

I enjoyed my time here. There's literally everything at or around the beach. It was packed with people everywhere. You can ride horses or ponies, eat Mexican candies and treats, elotes, fresh coconut( best coconut I ever had actually, prepared with the lime and tajin). They also had mariachi bands, restaurants, bars, carriage rides, shopping, eateries, convenience stores and banks nearby. There are PLENTY of taxis, or you can order an Uber to get wherever you need to go; they're reasonable. There's a hotel nearby as well but I stayed in TJ at Hotel Lucerna, which wasn't a very far drive at all, about 30 minutes or less. I plan to come back. read more

Ooooooof... this pains me, it really, really pains me. My love for Mexico as a whole does not waiver, but Rosarito specifically (at least on a holiday weekend) is an absolute dumpster fire, fulfilling all applicable stereotypes. I've always been the first person to defend Mexico and the claims that I find to be mostly fabricated. Unfortunately Rosarito and the locals that are running the show have proven me wrong with their price-gouging, watered down booze, and overall shadiness. After two overly inflated bills from beachside restaurants we grabbed the first Uber we could book and high-tailed it to greener pastures... Tijuana. Seriously, skip Rosarito these days and stay in Tijuana. The people, the prices, the food, the culture... it's a much safer bet. read more

With the right touch, maybe some accurate business directories, and adequate street naming conventions, and this town can be an amazing place to visit or live in. A jewel! I love this place. Small beach town vibe that makes you feel like you're in a different country, but still 30 minutes from the border. Great tacos and great beach. You can opt for the busy beach bday experience with people selling thier wares, or walk ten minutes down the beach and enjoy only the soundsof the waves hiding the shore! Careful if you get in the water! Your stuff is more valuable to them than to you if so. Had our slippers stolen but that was mainly our fault! Happened so fast but we guess they needed/ wanted it more than us. This place is packed with locals and tourists. You can sit on the beach and have churros, fruit cups, candy and all that! Just sit and people watch or get in the water just make sure you don't leave your things unattended!! read more

The beaches of the central area of Rosarito are impeccably cleaned every morning. I lived on calle Villa del Mar for six months and not one plastic cup, napkin, beer can, pile of seaweed, nada, just barefoot ready sandy white beaches. I never felt unsafe and there is a subtle police presence for safety unlike the police State I originated from, California. It is really relaxing and quite beautiful. Being a single woman accompanied by my pitbull, I never felt safer from crime. There were some vagrants on the beach sometimes in the late night but usually they were trying to sell bundles of wood and build small bonfire's for those folks willing to invest the 50 pesos, half of five bucks. Rosarito is a relatively small town with one strip mall and although there are a couple of famous bars, excellent restaurants and infamous taco stands, there is not much else other than a huge stretch of various sandy beach communities catering mostly to expats and seasonal visitors. The extent to which the beach deviates from central Rosarito heading North seems to determine the degree of attention to keeping the sand free of debris. My experience is that most of the beaches South of Rosarito are relatively clean with central Rosarito beaches the most pristine although the waves are scarey. Living in the middle of town also came with front door services like I never ever imagined. Each service had a different recognizable in my living room unique jingle blaring from the street in daylong daily procession, emanating from cheap intercom speakers taped to various types of vehicles selling bottled drinking water, propane gas, bread, tostiloco's, cactus, tamales, etc all day long. Really one could stay in home and rest all day living downtown with everything delivered into the home by friendly and professional folks. The neighbors who mainly consist of local Mexican families, were not super friendly, not rude either, and minded their own business as I did mine. I felt legitimately safe and at peace with my economical beach lifestyle. Since then I found my home in Ensenada where there is more of a city atmosphere and shopping that I have not even found yet. read more
