The entire perimeter is fenced in with a security guard at the entrance who keeps tabs on everyone in the complex. A 2 bedroom home can accommodate 4 guests, and they are strict about this. You will not be allowed to have additional guests even for a few hours, therefore it is very safe and private. I love the architecture which ranges from Mexican Baroque to traditional Spanish Colonial and the entire compound has cobblestone streets and cement walking paths. There are several little gardens of roses and other lovely flowers making this a great place to take walks and enjoy the scenery. The large pool/jacuzzi area has plenty of lounge chairs and shaded seating, a shuffleboard court, a gym, and a banquet room. There is also a large surfing beach with several sturdy palapas for all guests and owners to use. A visit to Las Gaviotas is certainly a treat. I love to relax, enjoy a good book followed by a leisurely walk, then swimming and a relaxing dinner when I visit.

We stayed in house 137- the only issues we had was a broken umbrella which wasn't a huge deal at all especially since it was pretty chilly during our stay and the showers are not ADA. I had to get into the shower and help my mom in as it's a tub with no way in except about 2 feet high and no rails to hold on to. We will definitely be back!!

The sand is soft, plenty of shells along the water if you want to collect some. Watch out for horse poop O_O People ride horses and walk dogs all through out the day. There's a guy offering rides on his motorized hang glider as well. When the weather is clear, you can see the sleeping man island in the distance. I'm ready to go back!!

I've now come here twice, it's an awesome spot. It's $12 dollars per car per night and the…read moreproprietors charge $6 per bundle of firewood. There are restrooms (bring toilet paper) and cold showers. It's a large dirt lot on a bluff overlooking the beach. Be careful of mosquitoes during the night (I got eaten alive my first night, but was prepared and didn't get bitten the second time I went). I'd strongly recommend hitting up a Soriana or Calimax (Mexico's major grocery/department stores) in Rosarito before you get there for firewood (it's cheaper there), beer, tequila, soft drinks and snacks. There is a little shop in a hotel to the south of the campgrounds that sells liquor but at twice the price of the aforementioned stores. There is an Oxxo (think 7/11) at the entrance of the campgrounds that you can get beer and snacks at regular (low) prices. There are also two little food carts next to it that you can get cheap food but aren't always open. Too the best of my knowledge there are 4 restaurants/bars in the town, all to the south of the campgrounds. My favorite is Lighthouse which had great views, two TVs that show American sports, $3 tacos, $4 Margaritas, $3 beer. For the fishers out there, this is a great spot. The waves weren't huge and I did get a bunch of hits while fishing, hooked one but it snapped the line. I'd recommend using a Carolina rig with shrimp or clams/mussels. I wanted to use San fleas but they were surprisingly hard to find (I spent fifteen minutes and could only find two).if you do catch something, the Lighthouse will fillet and cook it for you. For the surfers out there, this seems like a good spot for consistent waves but I didn't see any huge ones. You can also rent surfboards and boogie boards at the entrance to the campgrounds. And lastly, if you decide car camping isn't for you, you can get good rooms at the hotels for between $55-$200 dollars. I stayed one night in the hotel above the towns liquor store for $55. It had an ocean view and private patio, two twin beds, not heated showers though. La Fonda has the best rooms but the cheapest is almost a $100 with no ocean view (but their proxy rooms do look good with ocean views). Come out to this spot, it's an extremely good vacation for the price. P.S. Also, you'll need a car which you can get insured in San Ysidro, Ca. The main highway to get there has tolls, which are $2 per stop, remember to have singles on you (it's between 2-3 tolls to get down, same going back).

Playa Ensenada is a very cool beach. It stretches about 12 miles (15 km) from the Malecon…read more(boardwalk) near the port of Ensenada down to the Estero Beach Resort on the edge of Todos Santos Bay (which is as big as San Diego Bay). On a huge stretch along the middle there are no structures to be seen from the beach, which makes it very scenic and natural. Just a long stretch of sand with a gentle slope into the Pacific Ocean. The water stays shallow for a long ways into the ocean. You could probably still stand up about 50 yards out there, but the water was too cold in April to stay in that long to find out. We'll be back in Summer to try. People walk their dogs unleashed and the sun glistens off the water. Pure sand and no rocks, this beach is a delight. Wide open to the ocean, there can be strong rip currents. For a beach dude like me it rates a 4.5 stars, so I'll round it up to 5 stars.

We drive right on in unless it is too packed with cars. Don't know till you go. It is a small fishing village where locals sell their daily catch right from the coolers and trading/bartering is in order. You definitely need to speak Spanish for this. I have actually brought large, fishing type coolers here to trade for freshly caught fish or even several dozen tamales. Yes tamales too! Also a handful of older restaurants boast ocean views with fresh seafood. We prefer to drive down to the beach in my Subaru and eat right there. We went to Sarita's and it was fantastic fresh seafood. The huge pig on the beach was unexpectedly cool! Eating all the good seafood scraps I'm sure. An unverified rumor from a construction guy that worked at my house mentioned he knows someone that says the sewage outfall drain pipe down in the area is not far offshore from here. I cannot confirm this and it won't deter me from coming back at all.

Quite hairy at times getting there. And on a narrow two way road overlooking the ocean. Beautiful views though. After arriving at La Bufadora's parking lot, a huge shoutout to the driver for getting us there safely. And before stepping off the bus our guide Roxanne gave us a prep talk on what to expect. Of course its main destination is their famous blowhole. While the taco spot Lidia's Grill is also extremely popular. Riders were even given the option of bringing their tacos back to the bus to enjoy while riding back to Ensenada. But before reaching that very popular blowhole, we were given advice about first weaving our way through the huge marketplace and its very aggressive hawkers. "If not interested just ignore them." Think LA's Olvera Street on steroids if you've ever been there. And much larger, at least a quarter of a mile in length with everything imaginable being offered. But Roxanne boldly guided us through and finally we reached the blowhole and the beautiful scenery overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Then you're left to take in the views on your own. Just remember to head back to the bus to reboard by 2:10 for our return bus ride back to the port. And conditions were right for amazing bursts of waves from the blowhole. While some spent almost the entire time at Lidia's putting in and awaiting their taco orders. It's that popular.

After the SD Writers Festival and then grabbing a slice and a beer on the main strip, I strolled over here to enjoy the last rays of the day. It is just gorgeous and breathtaking. I sat far back today, sitting on some rocks, ear buds in listening to my favorite playlist and just meditating while Mother Nature put on her beautiful sunset show for us. Come out here and enjoy the fun shops and restaurants nearby and spend some time with nature. Your heart and mind will thank you later.

There are spots all along the strand with paid parking, but you can find some free parking too, and it is not that far of a walk. The beaches are pristine and the views are second to none. Great spot to take visiting family and friends who want to get a taste of San Diego. They also get to experience the Coronado Bridge if you are driving over there. Highly recommend visiting if you get a chance.
