What really stood out (beyond the food) was the service--attentive, friendly, and dialed in the entire night without ever feeling overbearing. If you're looking for a spot that can handle a great group dinner and still make it feel personal, this is it. Highly recommend.

What made it worse was watching a guest who arrived after us get helped before we were. That set the tone right away and felt off. The restaurant is small, so this wasn't a case of a busy, chaotic space. There were open tables and plenty of staff moving around, which made the lack of attention even more frustrating. Food was mediocre at best. Several items we wanted were already unavailable, which limited options. The cocktails were disappointing and not worth ordering. The space itself is nice and has a quaint feel, but service and execution matter more. Between being ignored at arrival, the disorganized seating, and average food, this was not a good experience. I would not recommend this place and would not return.

Dearest gentle readers,…read more A most scandalous correction must be issued how careless of me. The establishment in question is none other than the divine Grassa, a name that now rolls off the tongue with the same richness as its most indulgent fare. And oh, what fare it is. Here, along the lively stretch of Portland, one may witness noodles brought to life before their very eyes fresh, authentic, and handled with a confidence that borders on audacity. These delicate strands are then enrobed in a mac and cheese so decadently composed, so brazenly elevated, that it dares to redefine comfort itself. And just when one believes it cannot be improved enter the pig belly. Crisp, tender, and unapologetically rich... a finishing touch that transforms the dish into something whispered about in only the most exclusive of circles. Yes, dear reader, this is the sort of indulgence that lingers long after the final bite... the kind that ruins lesser versions without remorse. And so, with that final truth properly set, I take my leave once more. The tales of this fair city draw to a close, but not without leaving behind a most delicious legacy. Until our next adventure ever eastward. Yours most faithfully,

The mac and cheese was recommended to us and was definitely not a lie. Sweet, slightly spicy(not really), creamy, and tangy. A perfect blend of the best flavor profiles with sauce hoarding pasta. It's a life regret to not order this dish. Everything else was also very solid. I really enjoyed the refreshing flavors of the burrata dish and the Brussel sprouts were a necessary addition of vegetables.

We stopped in after work for dinner, and it ended up being the perfect place to unwind with the girls. It was packed on a Friday night, staff was super friendly and got us seated quickly at the bar area. Looking around, a lot of people were here on a date - which I can see why, this would be such a cute spot for a date too! One of the cutest underrated restaurants in PDX.

The interior is attractive and very modern, and there is a large covered and heated patio if you prefer to sit outside (we did). The service was a little bit slow, but not egregious and the server was very friendly. The menu is not extensive, but it has good variety and everything on it looked excellent. All of their ingredients seem high-quality, and they have a number of gluten-free and vegetarian offerings. I ended up getting the eggs benedict, which came with a little salad. The salad was fresh, not wilted, and came with a light vinaigrette. The eggs benedict was absolutely stellar-- perfectly poached eggs, creamy hollandaise, and grilled halloumi to give some well-received brine to the bite, all atop an english muffin. For the price point and the quality, the portions are good. My one wish was that I could have subbed my salad for some of their potatoes! My partner got the pork belly hash, and thought that the potatoes were cooked perfectly-- crispy and well-seasoned. He did notice that there were only a few pieces of pork in the dish, but we chalked this up to the ingredient quality. We ended up staying for Happy Hour, which was fun! We got the fries with garlic aioli (so good!) and I ordered their daily cocktail special, a margarita. They gave me a good, heavy, pour, which is always appreciated. Great brunch spot if you want to go somewhere a little chic.

The crust had a nice chew with a bit of crisp on the edges, and the sauce balanced everything without getting lost under all the meat. It's a solid spot if you're craving a rich, filling pizza that doesn't hold back. Not light by any means, but that's kind of the point here. Good flavor, good portion, and hits best when you're hungry.

For example, when the Arugula Salad is made well, it is fantastic. However we have had repeated experiences where the greens are not fresh, or the dressing is forgotten, or there is no cheese. We have had repeated issues specifically with takeout orders, over many years. Additionally, if you dine-in, there is an entire bottle of oil on the table that you are encouraged to use on your pizza. It is delicious, and really completes the pizza flavor profile! They used to automatically include two small containers of oil per pizza if you ordered to-go. Current policy appears to be to not include any oil with the pizza (unless explicitly asked) and to only provide a maximum of two oils (even if multiple pizzas are ordered). I don't know if there is an oil shortage or what, but this is silly for a place that charges so much for their pizza. Life of Pie is a typical Portland restaurant that expects you to tip before you receive your food (and also expects you to bus your own table). To me, this expectation alongside with the inconsistency of the food for the price, is disappointing, and does not encourage people to go out of their way to return. When the food is good it is a solid place, however I would expect much more consistency for the price they command.
