I was looking for massages in Chinatown on Google and didn't find many standouts before checking yelp! I'm so glad I did as I feel yelp scores tend to be more reliable. Rose health spa is basic, but efficient and well priced. I was able to make a same day appointment by calling. They asked me to pay with cash which I typically do for this type of service anyway. I had a 60 min deep tissue massage with Julie and it was very good. The room was minimalistic but player relaxing music. Julie used decent pressure and spent a good amount of time on my neck and back where I was experiencing the most pain. Prices for massages in boston have become completely unaffordable. I had one of the most uncomfortable experiences I've ever had at a massage spa. My massage was covered through my Union Local 26 wellness benefit, so the service itself was already paid for. The massage was fine, but everything changed when I went to the front desk to leave. The massage therapist and the front desk manager immediately began demanding a tip. I offered to leave between $10 and $20, which I thought was a reasonable gratuity. They refused and told me they only accepted tips of $50 or more because im union. I was shocked and asked why they expected such a large tip. They replied that customers pay that amount "all the time." To be clear, there was no language barrier or misunderstanding. We both understood each other perfectly. They repeatedly insisted that I needed to leave a much larger tip. After going back and forth for several minutes, I became extremely uncomfortable and told them that since tips are optional, I no longer wanted to leave one at all because of how I was being treated. Instead of respecting my decision, they became even more upset and continued demanding a tip before I left. When I finally said I was leaving, they told me, "Leave and never come back," repeating it more than once. read more

I just got back to Boston via red eye flight, and I was looking for somewhere with same day massage appointments. Setting up an appointment was very easy! I called Rose Health around noon to ask for their availability for the rest of day, they asked around what time i'd want to go in (2:30/3) and how long I'd want to massage for (an hour). They told me they had availability for 3pm. They asked for how many people, so I said two, and they confirmed 3pm would still work (had my boyfriend tag along for a nice Saturday reset). On the phone, they told me it would $80 cash per person (their card reader is not working right now). We ran a few minutes late (curse the T!) and they gave me a call at 3:02pm to just verify that we'd come. After ringing the doorbell, they let us in and got us checked in. The place itself is very quiet, and you can't hear any street noise from inside at all. Super peaceful. My massage therapist was Julie, and she was fantastic! Applied the perfect amount of gentle pushing pressure where I know a bunch of my knots have disappeared, but not so hard that I'll wake up sore tomorrow. And if you are looking for pressure, my boyfriend's massage therapist (I didn't catch his name but he seemed to work the front desk) did put on the heavy pressure where it hurts in the good way. They used massage oils, which they also used hot towels to wipe off at the end of treatment. More places need to do that! It was a very methodical massage, working through the upper body from the left side first, then the right side, then the neck. After the upper body, they had a little bit of hot stone rolling (which was an awesome unexpected surprise). They also made sure to ask periodically if the pressure and heat was okay. After the upper body, they did a little reflexology with my arms and hands, and who knew my forearms would be so tight?? Then they put a warm towel over my upper body and moved onto my hips and legs, and a little bit of stretching with my calves/toes. After all that, I flipped to my back and got a little bit of a sinus/nose and neck area massage. All that in an hour! I would highly recommend. We each paid $100 in cash ($80+$20 tip). I was weary of the rave reviews but had to check it out for myself. I hurt my neck/shoulder at work a month ago and have still been having pain. I opted for the 60 minute deep tissue massage ($70) and it was the most relaxing, yet painful at times, 60 minutes of my life. She somehow found all my knots in areas I didn't even know they existed. And did a great job addressing them while also addressing the rest of my body. This was an actual full body massage, face down and face up, with the full head, neck, arms, legs, and feet being massaged. Came here for a couple massage for 90 minutes (60 min deep tissue + 30 min for reflexology). Prices have increased a little since the photo of the menu (I think it was $105/pp since we paid cash). We're already considering doing this monthly; this is a great no-frills but extremely clean and polite location. Honestly I wouldn't change a thing - I was able to turn my neck for the first time in months, and I feel completely restored. They made sure we were comfortable, asked us if it was too much pressure, and even used hot stones for a couple minutes. I also have to say that I either need to shower immediately after massages or basically get the oil all over my clothes. This location gives you a warm towel massage once their done so you're nice and clean and fresh. Might be common other places but that was a super nice touch I've never seen. read more

This is a 5-star review with the proviso that we are clear about what the place is and is not. This IS a fantastic place to get a healing massage. When your body doesn't feel good and you need someone to help it feel better, there aren't many places that can offer more. The therapist I had was extremely well versed in anatomy and did an exceptional job of identifying root problems and getting me back into one piece. She didn't just look at the obvious knots - she dug deep into the other parts of my body that were contributing to the problem, and I'm feeling incredible relief from head to toe. This place is NOT a place to go to be pampered. There are no amenities, and though the shop is clean and comfortable, it isn't luxurious in anyway. You aren't going to get a dreamy and gentle swedish massage that feels like being rubbed down on silky clouds. This is also NOT a spa that has a dozen or more employees, so occasionally, you'll be put on pause for a quickly answered and deflected phone call. All in all I am very satisfied with the place and would gladly come back again soon. For the cost of the services provided, and for the fact that I need this kind of massage a couple times a month to help with ongoing physiology problems - it's a perfect find. So it's really clean and has a nice ambiance. The ladies are friendly and it's very comfortable there! Prices are affordable and you can call day of or do a walk in visit. The biggest reason to come here is Julie- just try her once and you will understand! She gives the best pressure and knows all the right spots. As your kindergarten teacher taught you - "Don't judge a book by its cover!" This no frills massage parlor offers a clean environment for a strong massage. Don't expect a salon atmosphere - because this is not a place to be pampered. Rather, come here if you have legit pain to work through. My masseuse was thorough, found my triggers and applied the necessary techniques and pressures to have me feeling better immediately. As it is no frills there is no receptionist, which really shouldn't matter except for when my masseuse left to answer the phone.. Seemed odd. I've been here 3 times after my exams - One for a couple massage and two for a 60-min. The owner is very nice and accommodating with my walk-in. Their techniques are really soothing and relaxing. I can't tolerate too much pain so I opted for "moderate strength". I have chronic back pain from a sport injury so they specifically worked on my back to loosen the paraspinal muscles. Easy, and they also called me the day of to check-in and remind me about my appointmen t. It was very clean and peaceful. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all despite trying a new place, and Julie was so warm and welcoming. She is SOOO strong. She really worked my muscles, and listened to me when I told her about my problem areas. It was a solid one hour massage too, and I really felt that she took her time and didn't try to rush through it. There were also warm towels and hot stones involved in my deep tissues massage.
