First of all, let me start by saying that Rose is the gem of the Bay Area. It was truly the luck of the draw to have been matched up with her using Thumbtack. I was astounded by her portfolio on its merits alone before even learning of all her experience and star clients! Rose offered her availability on Valentine's Day, of all days! This is an incredibly rare occasion. She offered me a remarkably reasonable rate given what I was looking for, which included both hair and makeup. I was startled by how fair of a deal she gave me considering I was booking an appointment for a popular occasion. We began strategizing from the get-go on the phone. Rose immediately struck me as aware, intelligent, humble, and personable, all traits which must have been invaluable for her success over the years. It was easy as pie to explain my visions -- I mean, she was so sweet and understanding. She has an almost psychic ability to detect what a girl is going for! Rose and I kept in touch via text where she allowed me to send her Pinterest photos when the inspiration struck. Over the course of about two weeks, she answered attentively and assured me she could duplicate the looks (and turned out: she could!). When February 14th arrived, a first occurred: Rose was early ... very early ... about twenty-five minutes early! She travels to the client's location, which is very convenient. Even though my phone was on silent, she was very gracious and patient when I got back to her. She made the best of a cramped room. With her equipment, a tiny space ended up looking like a glamorous Hollywood dressing room! We chatted easily and between wonderful conversation, Rose again checked that I had the same intentions for my look and asked if there were any changes. She seamlessly made small alterations in order to make my dreams come true. From the shade of lipstick, brows, and blush, to the size and fall of my curls, she tailored everything to my personal tastes! Rose has so much experience in the entertainment industry and doing celebrity makeup that we just felt lucky to work with her. I'm a photographer who hired Rose through Thumbtack to do a clients makeup for both fashion and commercial photography in my Redwood City studio. This woman was completely unprofessional. She was hired to do hair/makeup for a bridal party. The bride had her own stylist which Rose Hill was very offended by, and in fact, made condescending and hurtful remarks to the stylist who was hired by the bride because of her impeccable reputation and the high end salon she works at. Rose Hill's remark, when asked by the photographer (in a friendly manner) if she worked for a salon was a very demeaning "Oh No, I DONT WORK IN A SALON, IM IN TELEVISION". She complained about everything, the lighting, the heat, the curtains being opened and closed, the way the people wanted their hair done. She was very bossy, came dressed totally unprofessionally, didn't wear her shoes, and she just looked plain raggedy. She constantly talked about how good she was, but in fact, she was slow, her makeup left a lot to be desired, she was testy, insulting, and very bossy, even telling the photographer what and when to photograph, when in fact, that was none of her business. I really didn't have a choice when it came to my hair and makeup for my future sister-in-law's wedding. The mother of the bride hired Rose Hill and so I went along with it. Rose was extremely nice and friendly. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she did it, and it look better than the picture I showed her. I showed her a picture that another hair and makeup person did for me for another wedding. The bride used a different hair and makeup person who she hired herself, Rose was not in the least bit offended. They both chatted and were sharing tips. Rose Hill & Crew is the most professional and artristic makeup team I have worked with on a movie set. As a producer, I need my makeup artist to be very talented, innovative, professional, and on time. Rose Hill always arrives on the set before the actors, bringing with her 2 to 3 assistants and/or students in training. On several occasions, a shoot took longer than the scheduled 8 hours, but Rose Hill didn't leave the set. She sticked around with us all night and into the early morning hours until we were done (without even charging for her extra time). She knows the importance of makeup in film and she has dedicated her life to making good movies -- this is in addition to teaching new generations of makeup artists and doing excellent bridal makeup. Very disappointed. I was going to a wedding and rose suggested that we do a mock hair trial at her house before the wedding so we knew exactly what to do. The trial came to $150 & $170 hair extensions she told me I needed. The day of the wedding she was extremely unorganized and ran out of time to do my hair and makeup! One of her assistants had to do my hair literally five minutes before the girls were called for pictures. She was in such a hurry she didn't have time to put in the non refundable hair extensions she told me to buy and had to quickly throw my hair back in a very ugly bun! The bride even said rose I don't like her hair, which rose responded she's a professional she knows what she's doing! Really what happened to listening to what the bride wants. After my ugly bun was done she had one minute to do my makeup and glowed my fake eyelashes to my skin! She still asked for full price. The following weekend i was in another wedding and it was so refreshing to have a hairdresser and makeup artist that kept us on schedule so knew how much time she had for each girl. What do you know she was able to do all our updos and none of us needed to spend a fortune on fake hair or a mock trial! read more

Rose's hair and makeup looked nice, but her attitude and customer service was a nightmare. She snapped at me for talking to my friends who were there next to me getting their hair done. She yelled at one of them after she asked about the "physical therapy" pole in her living room, and she was extremely rude to my sweet mom, which bothered me the most. I have never been treated in such a poor manner, and I am surprised she is still in business. No one could pay me to sit through that torture again... Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! read more

Rose is amazing. I called her at the last minute because I was going to a party, and told her that I just wanted the minimum - eyeshadow, mascara, and a little blush. I hired Rose Hill to do the hair and make up for my wedding. She had really reasonable prices for the bride, but the same as really good make up/hair for the bridesmaids. She did the hair/make up for my engagement photos as well. For the engagement photos I should have realized that she wasn't for me. She would get mad when I would try to suggest or change something. There was a chunk of the eyelash strip going the wrong way and I was trying to fix it and she would scold me and say it looked better or more natural instead of just doing what I want. My curls fell out before the photos were finished being taken, but I decided to stay with her anyway. She did a short consultation with all of the bridesmaids and she started yelling at one of them. It was the big day and we had already done a trial so I thought it would be fine. NOPE. I wanted a bump, which she did, but then it would get flatter and flatter the more things she would pin. I kept asking about it and she would pull the hair up, only for it to go flat again. I was so overwhelmed I just sat there crying. Only then did she start over and do it right. Even then, I got a wedge instead of a bump. As I look over at the bridesmaids fortunate to not be subject to her, I see that they actual do make up with coverage. The tiger/stripe war paint foundation style. She mentions that she does drag make up often, and I felt like that was her style even on me.. for my wedding. The blush/contour was super dark and when I asked her to blend fix it/ she complains while she blends in that it won't look as nice. Rose is a pretty nice person (when shes not working on you), but she does not take critiques well. For someone that has a "school" I feel that her technique is not on the same level as most other artists. She also likes to try and push hair extension on everyone.
