My wife and I were planning our wedding ourselves. Everything was going smoothly (except for the "discussions" over the guest list). Then flowers! We panicked for a second. Thankfully, we checked out Rose Red & Lavender after seeing their work in the "New York" magazine wedding issue. Personally, I know zero about flowers, so their expertise made the whole process incredibly pain-free (and within our budget)! They are complete pros: one less major thing we didn't have to worry about. Naturally, there are tons of options, but we never felt overwhelmed. A special call out to Enrique and Kimberly (the owners): specialized attention without any stress. We were in excellent hands. (The opposite experience we had with getting a photographer!) We used Rose Red & Lavender for our July 2016 wedding at Liberty Warehouse. Kimberly was awesome to work with from the beginning. I gave her a general vibe and some pinterest photos I like, and what she came up with was so much better than I imagined! I even added a couple of flower crowns last minute and she delivered. I got compliments on everything and honestly became emotional when I saw our venue all set up with the flowers. Of course, like anything wedding-related, I was shocked at how expensive wedding flowers are, but compared to other vendors I found RRL to be very reasonably priced. The delivery on the day-of was so efficient and well taken care of that I barely knew anything was happening, which is exactly what you want when you're a busy bride. read more

They have home-grown dried lavender here! I was looking online for a place to get it to make some baked goods and was not into the idea of trekking into the city. I was so happy to find a place around my neighborhood that had it. The owner was there, she's so nice! She told me that she grows it in Upstate New York and it is perfectly fine to cook with, no pesticides, etc. My boyfriend and I made cookies and they were delicious. Its a pretty reasonable price for a bunch, and you definitely get a lot for what you pay for. She also has a great plant selection and some unique gifts for sale there as well. read more

The staff is always amazingly friendly and are of great help! I always joke that I have a "black thumb" and can't keep any plants alive, but they worked with me to find easy maintenance plants within my budget and knowledge. The one missing star is because I fell in love with these Gardena plants last year and they didn't tell me that gardena's are a very difficult plant to care for--there are online forums about "suicidal gardenas". It is definitely not their fault that I picked out a plant that I knew nothing about, but a heads up would have been nice, so I knew what I was in for. Aside from that one incident, I really love this place and the ladies who work there. The backyard is beautiful and their cut flowers are to die for, and last a very long time. I can't recommend this florist highly enough. I was searching for some flowers for a very good friend of mine. I live in London and my friend in New York. I looked at all the international florists which were really uninspiring! Then I stumbled across this gem. Their flowers were unique and wild looking! Romantic and whimsical! I panicked as I was in another country not sure if my purchase had even gone through. Within moments of the store opening I received a very reassuring email from Haley telling me a card would be included and they would work with me to get them delivered promptly. I filled out their online "request a quote" form, and rather than receiving a quote, phone call or other email, I was just added to their mailing list! I love this place and have had nothing but wonderful experiences working with Kimberly and Enrique for my wedding flowers and arrangements. They're incredibly nice, Kimberly has wonderful ideas and taste and is beautifully calm! My boyfriend and I live next door to Rose Red & Lavender. It's a lovely store run by wonderful people and by far our favorite place to buy plants and flowers. Whenever we leave I always wish I could take everything home with me. The selection of flowers and plants are more vast and interesting than any other florist/nursery I have ever been to. The staff are all very helpful and give you so much information that it makes gardening really accessible even if you've never had a way with plants before. Its a beautiful addition to the neighborhood and definitely the first place I'd recommend to anyone looking to for beautiful plants and accessories. read more

Rose Red and Lavender boasts the most amazing little shop filled with so many floral goodies. I visited the shop to order a bridal bouquet, grooms boutineer, and two corsages (for our mothers). Kimberly was incredibly helpful--she truly tried to get to know our personalities and tastes and gave us feedback on flowers she thought would stand out and make our special day absolutely beautiful. We worked together to come up with the main "ingredients" for the floral work. I was so pleased with the final outcome! The bouquet smelled incredible, and was stunning. Lilacs and thistles worked together to really make our wedding photos pop. If you are looking for a unique and stunning set of bridal flowers, Rose Red and Lavender is the place to go. The pricing was a little higher than I originally thought it would be, but I don't feel that this should be a deterrent. The work is beautiful, and simply one of a kind. read more

Update: The owner reached out to me to apologize and I really appreciated her response. Again, to be clear, the flowers were professionally done - I am not making a critique of craft here - they were just not what I had requested. The owner noted that they are updating their email system to ensure that there are no future miscommunications about orders (apparently the person who initially took my order was not in when my order was made) which is a great sign. I would still recommend this florist with the caveat that you should be very clear about what you want. read more

What a great class, what a great store! My boyfriend bought me and his two daughters a terrarium class with Kimberly. She had hot cocoa ready for us when we arrived and she patiently explained the process of making terrariums by creating one out of an apple juice jar. So cute! We then went on to make four different terrariums...they looked amazing. We recommend this to both adults and children...it's really fun and unique. As a side note, my man also sent me flowers from Rose Red and Lavender. I've never seen such magnificent roses arranged with fragrant rosemary and contained in a vase bound in burlap. Working in Brooklyn, my husband could not send me flowers from our usual place in NYC (I omit the name in order to maintain the integrity of this review) he finds RR&L which happens to be in area and sends a rather small, pretty but VERY expensive arrangement. He paid extra to have "locally produced(?)" chocolates which never arrive. I decided to call RR&L to mention this to which they reply "We will credit your account for the chocolates." Credit was never given and my husband was floored when he saw the actual bouquet he paid $130 for that really looked like a $50 bouquet. Take your business elsewhere, the product they produce is not worth the money you will pay. read more

My fiance and I wanted to go with a local florist for our recent wedding and this flower shop just happens to be a few minutes from our apartment. I am so happy we used this florist! Kimberly and her staff are absolutely wonderful. I gave Kimberly a general idea of what I wanted for the wedding flowers and she went way above and beyond what I expected! The bouquets, floral arrangements, etc. that were created for us were so beautiful and unique! Many of our guests told us how much they loved the flowers. Kimberly and her staff are extremely professional and attentive. AND we found it to be more reasonable and affordable than other florists we contacted. I would definitely refer my friends and family to this shop too! The store itself is pretty cool; besides the flowers/plants for sale, there are interesting pieces all throughout the store. I recently had our floral arrangements ordered here for our wedding. After showing Kimberly some inspiration tears, she completely got the look I was going for- not too traditional, no pastels, and really bright- but not obnoxious. She was easy to work with, and really tried to work as close to our budget as possible. Closer in to the date of our reception I followed up w her to make sure they would be delivered within the window I needed and she completely reassured me and calmed my nerves! We showed up to our reception to find the most beautiful arrangements, with my original inspiration for color and style represented. This shop is freaking ridiculous. DO NOT try to order things online. The number of hidden fees are obscene- literally doubles the price of anything you try to buy, all of which by the way are extremely overpriced. They charge for delivery and then when you get one step from checkout they try to throw in another shipping fee. I am writing this review b/c I considered returning to this shop to get some flowers for my baby shower in May. Now that I'm reading some of these reviews I'm taken back to my experience with them 2 years ago. I emailed RRL a few pictures of some bouquets ideas for my small wedding. I wanted a bouquet for myself, an arrangement of similar color flowers for my boss (a judge, who was marrying my husband and I) and a boutonniere for my husband. I must have emailed back and forth at least twice with them. When I went to pick up my stuff the day before my wedding I saw that my bouquet was totally not what I had asked for. I am actually simple to please and usually am happy but they had it all wrong. The arrangement for my boss and my husband's boutonniere were very nice. My favorite piece was actually my husbands - so simple but beautiful. My bouquet.. the most important piece was totally off from what I asked for - it lacked the colors we emailed about (actually so did the arrangement now that I think of it). To sum it up, as someone else posted in another review - they were and looked professionally done but just not what I wanted. The worst part was the gentleman at the counter who insisted that what I was getting looked like what I had requested. I am not one for confrontation and just plainly told him I wasn't happy. He told me he'd tell the person who had done the piece to do it over - the next day when my husband picked up (I was getting my makeup done and couldn't do it myself) he arrived home with something more of what I wanted. Unfortunately what they did was put a bunch of orange carnations in bunches to replace the flowers I didn't feel matched... Not even roses.. I was annoyed but what could I do. I had to take what I had. It wasn't horrible but just still not what I wanted and it looked cheap. I can honestly say that they could have done a better job. I was sort of embarrassed that a co worker who'd made me a cake had beautiful roses in exactly the color I had requested , as my cake topper - somehow she's gotten it right - so I wasn't crazy and had explained what I was looking for. All in all this brings me back to total disappointment. I would love to support my local florist, but will not return due to the face that they still seem to have mixed reviews. I expected a bit more of a special arrangement. I ordered some flowers for a friends birthday (a $60 purchase with $20 delivery fee). It was delivered on time and easily so that's good but when I saw the arrangement it was pretty average and a bit sparse. I thought it would be ultra beautiful but it just wasn't. read more

Kimberly did the most beautiful job on our flowers. She understood exactly what I wanted, her price was very competitive, and when the bouquets showed up to my bridal suite, I was blown away by how perfect they were. I am not a flower expert AT ALL, I had to learn a bit about flowers to try to articulate what I wanted, but at Rose Red and Lavender, they really internalized what I was getting at from a clumsy description and a couple of photos, and they made it more beautiful that I could have imagined. I did not leave you a one star review so that the plants would come. I understand that it is not your fault that they didn't. I know that you cannot control the weather. What i do understand is that you didn't call me once to notify me about the delay and I probably would have been waiting forever if I hadn't been so persistent. When I initially met with Kimberly to plan the flowers for my June 2012 wedding, I was very excited. She is clearly very knowledgeable about her field and very creative. I wish that I could say that she executed our plans as well as I'd hoped. In the weeks before the wedding, I tried to check in with Kimberly to make sure we were on the same page. She was preoccupied or annoyed or I don't know what, but it was like she couldn't be bothered to answer my questions. She assured me she knew what I wanted and where everything went. On the day of the wedding, the color palette of the flowers she showed up with was completely off. Although she did go back to her shop and brought flowers to fix the colors, 1) fixing a mistake isn't a courtesy, it's to be expected 2) the mistakes could have easily been avoided if she had been willing to talk with me. After she'd left, I discovered there were arrangements that were put in the wrong place and had to be moved and also that I was missing the floral decorations for my cake that I had requested. I also seriously question the freshness of the flowers she brought. I was just not impressed, and I would caution other brides to be very specific, and firm with your wishes when dealing with this business. read more

i moved near rose red and lavender in april 2010, and when i found this great, cute shop, i bought a few veggie plants for our garden. then, i decided to do my own table flowers at my wedding, but was nervous about making bouquets myself, so i had kimberly do the bridal and bridesmaids bouquets, plus 2 mother's corsages for a great price. she did a beautiful job, and i wasn't too picky about the flower types, i mostly just wanted something seasonal and whites/greens. i told her the types of flowers i didn't like, and she showed me pictures of flowers online of ones she was thinking of so i could say yes or no. i felt very confident she knew what i was looking for since i also sent some photos of bouquets i liked. kimberly did an amazing job, the bouquets were gorgeous! it's great to know there's a wonderful local florist/garden shop nearby. i will definitely be going back for various plants/arrangements often! read more

i was unsatisfied with the first bouquet they made me but they took the time and energy to create an even more beautiful and unique bouquet. the staff were friendly and professional with me and did a fantastic job. i was ordering internationally and was very pleased with the results. i would definitely order from them again as they went out of their way to provide excellent customer service. they will email or text you your bouquet before it is sent! i suggest this as then you know what it looks like :) read more
