I wanted to try the pizza here, as someone mentioned it was good. The first one I had was amazing. So much so, that I was not expecting it to be that good. I couldn't wait to go back again. I took a friend of mine and we ordered a couple of pizzas. He thought it was one of the worst pizzas he's ever had, especially his pepperoni topping which he said was as bad as it gets. He did agree that the spicy sausage I got on my pizza was excellent. The other problem was the crust. The first time it was paper thin and delicious. This time it was thicker, bready and like cardboard. I will have to order pizza extra thin next time because I do like the spicy sausage a lot. We were seated at one of the ridiculous two topper tables that you can barely get into which was too small for our food! I saw two women at a four topper table but these idiots put two 6 foot guys at a little dinky table and at 4:30pm when it was empty. I normally say something but I didn't. Not happening again. I'll wait for a table that's not 2 inches from the next one. Ok Rosebud, you better come through and fix some of your problems or it's adios and good riddance. read more

The location may have changed; but it's still Rosebud. Reading the reviews on Yelp, it's a shame people from "the city of Big Shoulders" turn so quickly on an iconic Chicago family owned restaurant. Most people associate Rosebud with colossal portions of consistently superior quality food. This is what you can expect at the new Rosebud location. Perhaps haters should take a few things into consideration before they judge the newest Rosebud. I think it is reasonable to assume popular resturants are going to be busy; you may have to wait longer than you would like to be seated; there will be noise and you are going to pay ten bucks for a good cocktail. In return, you are going to get a phenominal meal you can share and eat the next day, and you may even dine next to a celebrity. In any case, it is a new location and with any new business, it takes a while for everyone to accommodate; including the customers. Keep in mind, it is not a Bakers Square...it is not Chuck-e- Cheese or TGI Fridays. It is a Rosebud and is sure to blossom. Don't give up! read more

They don't even deserve one star. I don't know that I have ever done a Yelp review, but this needs to be called out, not only for poor customer service but for sanitary reasons due to Covid. I placed an order at 12:30 for a 5:15 pick up. We were celebrating a bday at my house (outside) with 15 guests, 5 of which were young kids. Got there at 5:15, food was not ready. 5 people came out at different times to get our name. ONE hour till the food got to my car--ONE hour while people waited at my home for their dinner. The guy who brought the food to my trunk had his mask pulled down, loaded the food and COUGHED in my car. I just got off the phone with a manager who told me they were really busy--thats why I called at 12:30!!! He gave me a $30 credit for the next time we dine there--Which will be never. $30 on a $275 bill. Clearly they need to hire a new hospitality manager. Unacceptable. Save ur $$$, plenty of other incredible establishments who will go above and beyond for their customers. They do not. read more

WHAT A RIP OFF!!!!! I had never been to Rosebud in Highland Park but always heard good things so when my friend suggested the newly-opened Rosebud in Deerfield, I agreed to go. First thing that hits you is the amount of tables they have CRAMMED into this relatively small, former Baker's Square property. It was not possible to walk between them without touching other patrons and, getting into your seat between the tables was not easy. I ordered a house Cabernet, my friend ordered a Kettle One martini straight up. My wine was strictly average (young & light bodied). My friend's martini had no twist...no olives...no anything. Bread was already on the table and not warm. No crustiness - sort of crumbly. I only ate one piece. We then looked at the menu and noticed how pricey it was. I had come wanting to get ravioli. They had one on special, which sounded good but it was $26! So I had the ravioli marinara off the menu for $15 - still a lot for ravioli. My friend had the Papardelle marinara - also $15. We placed our order and waited - and waited - and waited ... I was fully expecting to get some type of house salad but this is not included with dinner. Finally our entrees came - in big frying pans that barely fit on the small table. Mine was not warm and my friend's didn't look much better. The food tasted okay but it definitely was nothing special. I like Papa Savario's ravioli a LOT better. Now the kicker ... the bill came - my house wine was $11 dollars a glass!!!!!!! I had two, not knowing that their house wine was as expensive as other restaurants' more upscale offerings. So my bill for 2 small glasses of ordinary wine and half a frying pan of average ravioli (I took the rest home but have since thrown it out) was $37 and I had no meat - no bread - no salad. Total after tip ... $43.00!!!! My evening was fairly unpleasant with the crowded room, the noise, the coolish, average food, the slow service and the HUGE bill for what I got. I figure that people will go to the new Rosebud once and never go back and Rosebud Deerfield will go out of business in a year or two. I will NEVER go to Rosebud in Deerfield again and based on my experience I will never try the Rosebud in Highland Park. I will warn everyone who will listen ... Steer clear ... read more

I was very upset last night when I dined after the 10th time at this Rosebud. The GM who is new was sitting there watching while chomping on his gum , taking pictures of the food before it was taken out of the kitchen and not helping. We walked in with no reservation and was told 30-40 min and the hostesses acted like she did not want to take our name but I gave it to her anyway. We were seated within 15 min there were no other people waiting and tables opened. We had to ask for bread twice before it came. Very disappointing. read more

Classic and still champion. Food is excellent every time. High quality and great portions. A little bit of everything Italian you can think of. Dining room is casual and loud and a bit cramped. Not a place for a formal meal. Ask to sit outside on a nice night. Highly recommended for carry out. Everything always packaged great. Service here is he best. Rosebud Deerfield is one of our favorites. A wide variety of wonderful entrees and specials. All prepared with great flavor and big portions. The ambiance at the original Rosebud on Taylor Street can't be beat. However, the food and service are the same here and what a neighborhood gem. We often eat with family and friends, many of whom are foodies. We all agree that the food here is wonderful. I like the Chicken Parmigiana personally. One of the best I have every had. My wife like the eggplant entrée or eggplant salad. The Caesar salad is great and easily shared. I also come here with clients and vendors from across the USA. Everyone enjoys the food here. The bread on table is great, and the olive oil is even better. The general manager is always walking around and checking in. Very well run. Free parking or valet parking. read more

The food at rosebud was excellent. We ordered sausage and peppers appetizer and split that among the three of us. Super tasty and enough to feed 4 or 5. I ordered chicken vesuvio , the waitress explained if I want it on the bone it takes 35 minutes, and it was worth the wait. 1/2 Chicken was moist peas and potatoes had a prefect crunch and just enough gravy to dip your bread in. If you don't live in the Chicago area you know you can't get this dish anywhere but Chicago. The other 2 dishes we had were chivken parm and veal picatta. Portions were.huge. both were seasoned perfectly and pasta sauce was off the charts. Only reason not. 5 stars . This location is not as good as the old one in Highland Park, but the food is pretty much the same. I've been there a few times since it opened and the service has always been fine. I agree with the other reviewers that space still looks and feels like a Baker's Square. That's why the prices seem particularly high, given the ambiance (or lack thereof). It does always get crowded and noisy and it is very packed in. Also, the old location had a nice separate area for takeout. In this location, the space is so small that you could be sitting very close to a constant parade of people coming in for takeout. It's a little annoying and distracting. All in all, the food is the same good Rosebud food, but seems overpriced given the new location. read more

My husband received a gift card for here, and I honestly have to say I didn't want to use it after reading many of these reviews. To help counteract some of the negative points that seem to be repeated, we opted for an early dinner carryout. I was absolutely surprised! The stuffed mushroom appetizers were the best I've ever had! I have to go back just to have them. Their calamari was also very good and I would recommend having it. We also split a pasta entree...I forget which one it was, I think it has veal in it. It was good, but I wouldn't get it again, especially if I was paying out of my own pocket. So I will definitely be back to try more things! I'm still a little hesitent to have a sit down meal there, but I was impressed by their food and I encountered nothing but a friendly atmosphere when I ordered and went to pick it up. read more

The person who complained about this restaurant in earlier posts was looking for something for free. He admits being a server so he knows how to play the game. Mike and I went to this restaurant before going to Ravinia. We sat at the bar and ordered sausage and peppers, salad and a small pizza. The bartender Danny was wonderful, the waitress Lada, accommodating even though she had nothing to gain as Danny was our server besides being a bartender.. everything was wonderful. Two different Hosts (one manager?) stopped by and asked how everything was.. We enjoyed our experience and will be back!! The rigatoni vodka was absolutely incredible.. The service was so so but I will be coming back for that pasta. I'm also interested in trying one of there chicken dishes. If you go there I recommend sitting at a corner booth. You get a really good feel of the restaurant that way. There is a a lot of eye candy! I loved the food here and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was great and a great selective menu. I started with a margarita pizza and the chopped salad. The salad was okay. I wish it had more dressing, but the ingredients in the salad were all good. Now to the good stuff. The margarita pizza was super crispy and thin and the sauce was incredible. I tried the brick chicken and also sampled the veal piccata. I don't have a single bad thing to say about the brick chicken. It was so well seasoned and tender and the sauce... the sauce alone makes me want to come back. The skin was so crispy and it was amazing with the perfectly cooked chicken. The veal piccata was very delicious. The veal was perfectly cooked. So well cooked, I was able to cut it with a fork and no knife, that's when you got good veal. The sauce had a great balance of lemon and a nice consistency in the sauce. I'm definitely coming back here just for the brick chicken and to try a pasta dish next time. read more

We had the Fussili Carbonara and the Baked Ziti, both were very good. My 12 year old first ordered chicken nuggets which were a very strangely breaded deep fried mess. Upon returning the nuggets he ordered spaghetti which was overwhelmingly flavored with Basil. Of course a kid would hate that, and to be honest I tasted it and didn't think it was very good either. For a starter I had the "meatball soup" which tasted like something out of a can. Also, I wish there would be more appetizer selections and what Italian restaurant doesn't carry Lasagna??? Went here for a lunch with my fiance as was told this place had great food. Well we were told wrong. I ordered a burger and she had an Eggplant Parmesan sandwich. First my burger was cooked incorrectly i wanted medium rare i got medium, second i asked for cheddar cheese, which i got however it didn't even cover the entire burger was like a dollop in the middle, third the burger is supposed to come with lettuce tomato pickle well for some reason mine came out with nothing and i had to ask for it. When it arrived it was shredded iceberg lettuce and a beefsteak tomato, seriously on a $12 burger, what is this a high school cafeteria? Oh and the beef flavoring was as bland as taking ground beef and making a patty out of it and throwing it on the grill. No flavor at all. Now onto the Eggplant Parmesan sandwich, what can i say it was bland and soggy tasting, the sauce had no flavor and just was awful. Well needless to say we will never be going back there. read more

I would also give a zero if possible. Bad bad service. Rude waitress and manager. They obviously don't care about customers. Sat for 15 minutes with no refills. Waitress was very snobby and slow when asked to refill drinks. Waitress also acted put out when she had to wrap our food that was unfinished. The person who brought out the entrees in skillets almost burned my son by placing the skillet so close to him. The same person was placing the skillet of my pasta down and bonked me in the head with my sister's salad bowl he was taking to wrap. I was surprised at how bad the food is. I had the chicken sorrento special which was an overcooked chicken breast and someone opened a can of peeled tomatoes and poured it on the hard dry chicken! We have always loved their food, and for the most part have dealt with their service, however this evening they crossed the line. The individual who answered the phone, and was responsible for taking orders, was pretty rude. There was absolutely no changes to be made to any of the items ordered. Ok we get it...but we had a very simple request, don't cut the bread. Why you ask, well, all we wanted was a meatball sub, an item on their lunch menu. Let me start out by saying this is my first negative review. The purpose of the review is to warn others about what to expect when planning a sunday FAMILY BIRTHDAY PARTY with 20 people. I will keep it short and sweet. I called several days in advance and asked to make a reservation for a family birthday party of 20. We asked to have one Table and to be able to pre-order food(family style). They agreed to 1 table and said NO TO PREORDERING AND NO FOOD TO BE SERVED FAMILY STYLE. The girl on the phone kept putting me on hold and asking the manager questions. I thought it would be more productive if I spoke to the manager directly, so I asked to speak to the manager, and I was told he was busy and would call me back. NO CALL BACK. I called the next day with the same question and asked to speak to the manager. Again, I was told I would be called back. I finally get a call back several hours later. I was informed that I could only pre order appetizers, and not the main dishes. I was also informed that I should arrive 10-15 minutes early I said ok. It's just easier to pre-order food at an Italian restaurant than having 20 adults and children spend an hour trying to decide what they want to eat. So..... I arrive as instructed 10 minutes before my scheduled reservation. There was only one couple there, otherwise, RESTAURANT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. I find out they won't give me one table, instead we have two tables. This is a family birthday party, not a business lunch. As I am speaking to the manager, I told them I Requested one table and I NEED one table, not two tables. He tells me that he is sorry and he cant do anything about it (EVEN THOUGH THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY). I told him I would have never booked my birthday under these terms. So, My wife and I pick up our cellphones and called another Italian restaurant, which was able to accommodate us. This restaurant was five minutes away and was able to accommodate us. I asked the manager one last time, if he would seat us at one table? If not, we would be going somewhere else. He then told me if he would have known, this was the situation he would have never taken the reservation. That's what happens when the manager is too busy and you have high school girls working the front of the house running back and forth asking questions from the manager. Mind you, they have an empty back wall filled with tables over 50 feet long. I have been going to Rosebuds for years and have never had this happen before. The food is decent. FAIR WARNING TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO HAVE A BIRTHDAY DINNER. EVEN IF YOU CROSS YOUR T's and DOT YOUR I's they will still figure out a way to ruin your birthday. WE WERE WILLING TO SPEND $1000-1500 here and went somewhere else because of their incompetence.
