I have been catering from here for special occasions for the past 20 plus years and my guests would always be excited that I was having food from here. Something changed over the past year with the quality of the food. I catered some pasta and tiramisu for a grad party. I asked that the pasta not be overcooked and they offered to cut the tiramisu into slices decorated with strawberries. Unfortunately the pasta was way over cooked and the dessert was not precut as promised which had me scrambling at a 100 person party. I called to give feedback with minimal response. I also catered from Grill House for that party that brought a cheesy shell dish that was cooked perfectly and held up well. I ended up throwing out the pasta from Italian kitchen as it was way overdone and no one even took it to go. Please return to your previous quality and service. read more

Italian Kitchen did an amazing job taking care of 15 of us from Deerfield having a reunion on March 18. The food is outstanding. The pizza was amazing. The tiramisu the salads. Everyone was so kind. I had dined here years ago - Pre-Yelp - so I was expecting a retro old school restaurant with the red checked tablecloths and murals of Italy on the wall. The restaurant was similar to what I remembered but now there were backlit, colorful mosaic artworks on every wall (more on this later). The restaurant wasn't full and we were immediately seated in a booth, bread basket was offered (and accepted), drink orders taken. The menu is traditional old school Italian and I ordered eggplant Parmesan and my companion ordered spaghetti carbonara. Our entrees came with soup or salad. I picked clam chowder (pretty good, lots of veggies and clams) and my friend chose the green salad. There was a lull here as the tables began to fill with patrons and the other room was hosting a private party. Not that it signifies anything, but the median age in the restaurant was about 65. Well, actually, it could signify that the restaurant caters to a particular kind of taste, but actually, I did see several cars lined up outside for carryout and the drivers were below the median age. My companion enjoyed their carbonara. It was rich and creamy without being overly so, and had nice chunks of fried pancetta. My eggplant Parmesan arrived like a large lasagna. I typically enjoy thin crispy fried eggplant drenched in a red sauce. This was an enormous mound of eggplant surrounding ricotta and covered in Parmesan cheese and sauce and broiled. Plus a bowl of pasta. It wasn't what I was expecting but it was ok and I enjoyed the sauce. We weren't offered dessert so we paid the check and left. So, those backlit mosaics that covered all the walls of the restaurant...the artist, Zee Haag, creates these mosaic gemscapes out of semiprecious and precious gemstones, minerals and crystals. I at first thought them simple and gaudy but now I understand that all these gemstones are inlaid piece by piece. I tried to surreptitiously take photos (but then the restaurant became quite full) so I will have to return for more old school Italian and to examine the artwork more carefully. read more

Not sure how they are if you are just dinning in but if there is a buffet for a special occasion go to White Castle. Been there twice now for a funeral luncheon and the food was cold, undercooked and the place is NOT large enough to hold a buffet. Not to mention the staff is on the rude side as well as not enough food put out to feed the group that was there. read more

We went here for a birthday. This place has been around forever. We had a group of 7. This place is pretty small but it was somewhat busy. The takeout line outside was really long. Business is doing well. The waiter was alright but not the most attentive. It took a while to order. It took forever to get our food. We had to ask politely actually. I think this is a slower-paced restaurant where you spend a couple hours easily. I can appreciate that. I just hope the waiter can read the table with 3 teens and us not ordering alcohol or appetizers. Nobody complained about the food. My daughter and I really enjoyed the pesto chicken and pasta. Super sad. I order delivery from here about twice a month. Sometimes more. Always get chicken parm and at times a half side of pasta. Chicken parm wasn't at all what it used to be. I asked for a little extra sauce as I always do and they always give it in the meal. Tonight they barely sauced the pasta and gave a little on the side if almost to make up for the lack of sauce on the dish. Every time I would get a half order of pasta it was in a big square take out dish. Now they put less in a small rectangular container. I won't order again which makes me sad. This is honestly one of the BEST spots for food in Deerfield, in my opinion. The pasta is soooooo good, and so fresh every single time we order. I always get the Pesto Chicken Pasta with Fettuccini noodles, and my husband gets the Gnocchi with meat sauce which is also delicious. My father in law also said the chicken Alfredo was the best he's had in 74 years. It's just delicious. You can't beat it. The people that work there are kind and very efficient. It's got an authentic atmosphere that is comfortable and relaxed and we order out all the time, and you just pick it up in the back. Attended the Deerfield Art Show and decided to eat here for the first time. We were not crazy about the garden salad or the dressing. The greens were limpy and did not taste fresh. They really should stick to romaine lettuce. My Meatball appetizer was delicious and would order this again. Their pasta with cream sauce and truffle was excellent. You can come in early like 430 pm and the kitchen will be "backed up" with 5 people in the restaurant. You ask why is it taking so long? They say they are busy with carry out orders. A couple of weeks ago, The Italian Kitchen provided outstanding food for my son and daughter in law's wedding. My son's all time favorite food has been the lemon chicken from the Italian Kitchen for at least 20 years! So it was a priority to serve it at his wedding! We were so impressed with the level of service and quality of the food. More importantly, ALL of out guests raved over the lemon chicken and lasagna. Planning a wedding can be stressful enough, so it was beyond a pleasure to work with John at the Italian Kitchen. He made the entire process so easy. A bit hard at first to get into the restaurant. There is limited parking in front of the venue. Most of the parking is behind, but the restaurant does not tell you that. While we dined most of the customers came in from the back of the restaurant and walked through the dining area up to the front only to walk back through the dining room to be seated. The selection of food is expansive. However there is a huge sign in the front window advertising their all you can eat fish fry. YUM! The negative was when I ordered the Perch all you can eat fish fry there was none. They ran out of stock. The reason was they got their Canadian fish daily and not many people were ordering the dish. That threw off my eating expectations. Service was on spot. There was an older crowd in the restaurant and it was above average value. However how can you under order your special dishes? I don't think we will go back to the Deerfield Italian Kitchen. I don't think we would ever be in a rush to go back. read more

I've been meaning to share an awesome experience I had a few weeks ago. I picked up dinner after work one evening. They have a contactless pick up, which is very convenient, especially during these winter months. I was almost all the way home when I received a call from the owner that I had received the wrong order. He immediately asked for my address, so he could deliver the correct order. He told me to keep the order that was given to me and that he would deliver the correct one. I have to preface that I live about 20 minutes away from Italian Kitchen. Not only did the owner personally show up with the correct dinner order, but he also threw in 2 desserts and extra bread. When he came to the door with the food, he apologized and told me how much he prizes himself and his restaurant on customer service. I was beyond impressed with his amazing customer service and generosity!! I feel like this day and age people are not going above and beyond like they used to. Quite an unassuming store front in a strip mall in downtown Deerfield. I would never have even thought to stop in had it not been for a friend's recommendation. The inside of the restaurant was dated but nice enough. Didn't feel like a date night kind of place though as most of the clientele seemed like older couples/friends. But it was packed on a weeknight, so what do I know? :) The hostess (which I think might have been one of the owners or managers?) was SO nice and friendly, as were the servers we had. The food. My daughter and I came in on a lark so weren't crazy hungry. We ordered the Sacchetti pasta, which was individual "sacks" of homemade pasta, filled with mushrooms and bathed in a truffle Alfredo sauce. It was INSANELY good. I'm new to the area and tonight was my first visit here. Me and 4 other women absolutely enjoyed it. We got the pesto burrata appetizer, a pasta special with shrimp, spinach, mushrooms, and vodka sauce, and the tortellacci. All were really delicious, perfectly cooked, and honestly very generous portions for the price. Normally I don't focus on price but given the rising cost of dining out I'd say you get both quantity and high quality here for your dollar. I also had a couple of nice glasses of wine. Service was very attentive but not hovering. Lately you see a lot of negative reviews for service lately but the folks here know what they are doing. It really was a great experience. The customers ran the gamut - families with kids, young couples, an adult son with his dad, me and a group of women.
