Food is fabulous but I can not give a better review until this is changed. Rosebud is NO LONGER dog friendly. Please change the description.

Very solid Italian food. They have great variety. Wonderful wine selection. The only thing preventing me from marking it 5 stars is that it is a little expensive for Italian food. Overall, very good and a great place for a date night. read more

Eaten here twice: once for NYE 2015 and then again for my parents' 40th anniversary. Both times have been great. Staff is super attentive and friendly. Food is delicious, especially the desserts (my family is a big fan of the Tiramisu). Good for celebratory dinners and the like. Fair warning that the portions are huge. Where to start - my siblings and I chose this restaurant for dinner as a celebration of my mother's life who passed away a few months ago. My mother liked this place, we brought her here a few times. The food was horrible is all I can say. The veal was tough, the whitefish was inedible and the ravioli was soggy. We ordered cannoli, cheesecake, chocolate cake and gelato for dessert. We couldn't give the cannoli away, ick but the other dessert items were good. We were not offended at the prices, which are on the high side but felt we were completely ripped off in terms of the quality of the food. Our bar bill was several hundred dollars, no complaints about that. Our waiter was ok, he was working hard but made mistakes on the bill. Sadly, the celebration was not what we thought it would be or should be. We will never go back here again. Pretty shameful. read more

Had reservations for 8, showed up a little early (around 7:45) was not seated until 8:30. The server was attentive and helpful and the food arrived fairly quickly. I had the lasagna. The plating left something to be desired as they just dropped it on the plate also the portions are huge. I noticed most people left with a to go bag. personally i would like to see smaller portions and maybe throw in some seasonal veggies. over all the restaurant was nice and I may come back again some time in the future. read more

Last Saturday, I had reservations at 7:00 pm for dinner with my family to celebrate my birthday. Despite arriving at the restaurant exactly at 7:00 pm, our party was not seated until 40 minutes later. Once seated we placed our drink order and then our food order shortly thereafter. The food did not arrive until almost 75 minutes after we placed our orders! Although the quality of the food was good and the server was attentive, the delays in being seated and in receiving our meals took the lustre off our evening. Although we received an apology, the Manager did not make any allowances for the excessive delays. It will be some time before I frequent Rosebud's again. read more

Very disappointed with our Rosebud experience. We had a party of 10 and the entire night we were rushed by both the waitress Carol and the manager. They even advised us not to choose a specific dish because it would take too long (40 minutes) to make, and they needed to make sure the table was ready for the next group. Went to Rosebud tonight and my wife and I had dinner with great friends. So happy to catch up with two of our closest friends.... but that's where the fun stops. We were wondering why it was so empty on a Friday dinner hour..... maybe Rosebud has priced itself out of the market??? We eat here maybe twice a year. it's an hour drive for us. So eating here is always special. Or used to be. We took our friends out for dinner who were celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary. When I made the reservation I informed the young lady who was taking our reservation of that. Her response: "That is along time; I'm sure we can do something." We always order the huge porkchop and share it. When our food arrived, we were minus one meal. It took nearly 30 minutes for a replacement meal - by that time we all had shared our food with our friend. She took it home for later. And the porkchop? It ain't huge anymore. It's about half the size it used to be. So the waiter finally appears after I caught a bus boy's attention asking for more water and coffee. So after filling our cups and water glasses, the waiter asks if there's anything else. I said "Yes, I'd like to speak with the manager." He's most apologetic. He's been in a meeting and offers us all free desserts now or appetizers the next time we come - and gives us his business card. To which I said "This isn't something you can Free Dessert or Free appetizer away." The dessert was meant to appease us; not to celebrate 55 years of marriage. A huge disappointment. I wrote him a letter a few days later reminding him of our experience and sent it to the restaurant. That was 3 months ago. No reply. Probably still in a meeting. So disappointed , went in for a late lunch it was not busy at all we had to wait for them to clean off a booth which took forever . Finally got seated and our server was MIA ... Once she made it over we ordered food was okay at best , spaghetti was more like spaghetti soup , meatball sandwich was cold waitress never came back to check on us .Finally manager came over we complained . Had an amazing dinner here! Arrive early for our reservations and got seated right away. The wait staff was exceptional and constantly had people floating around to refill drinks or take plates away. We had the baked clams, which were phenomenal, Grandma's Gravy, which was incredible and unique. Almost like getting a whole pot roast with pasta and the baked cavatelli. We went to Rosebud on a Wednesday night for my wife's Birthday. We had heard some good things about the place and the Yelp reviews seemed to confirm that. In a single word, Underwhelming. First the parking here can be rather difficult, but I do not fault the restaurant for that. It certainly wouldn't affect the rating but I thought I'd mention it so as to help other Yelpers. The lot in front of the restaurant is mostly taken up with the Valet parked cars, $7. There is a parking garage across the street which is free, but the ground level tends to be full most of the time and you better plan on doing some circling. I quicker bet is the lot just to the south of the restaurant, across the river on the west side of Washington. It's about the same distance as the garage but almost always has spots open. On to the restaurant. We had reservations and they were very quick to greet us and get us to our table. Our server was friendly but not overly professional. Think Olive Garden, not Mortons. I would have expected a bit higher trained server considering the price range of the place, but she wasn't bad either. I guess in a word, proficient. Atmosphere-- much noisier than I would have anticipated, however ambient noise generally doesn't bother me when it all blends. The problem I had here is that the tables are extremely close together. In fact, I had to sit close to the corner of our small square table to keep from hitting the chair of the woman at the table next to us. Which brings me to my biggest ambiance complaint. Given that you are seated SO close, we could literally hear every word of the people at the next table. We heard about their district manager who was a jerk, about how their travel schedule sucked etc etc. Very distracting actually. On to the food. We ordered two appetizers, the calamari and the bruschetta. The calamari was actually very good. Cut rather thick for my family's tastes, but I liked it. The bruschetta on the other hand was rather dull. It was rather dry and tasteless and the mozz on top did not appear fresh. Entrees. We orderd four different. My wife had a special of the night, a pasta Calabrese which was either Cavitappi or Capellini, I don't remember which. In either case, it had vegetables and shrimp and was supposed to have some sort of sauce, I forget what type exactly. What I do remember is that when she shared some with me, I agreed it was rather dry, a bit bland and the shrimp were very tough and tasteless. I'm almost sure they were frozen shrimp, not fresh as you would expect. It wasn't horrible by any means, but more like you would expect at an Olive Garden. I had the Chicken Marsala. I read one reviewer her who commented his wife claimed it was the best she ever had, which is one of the reasons I ordered it. All I can say is she needs to get out more! First Chicken Marsala usually comes bedded on some type of pasta. This came with a side of pasta, Mosticocioli or Rigatoni one of the two. I couldn't tell exactly as it was drenched in some of the poorest Marinara sauces I've ever had outside of a Ragu can. First, the pasta with Marinara in no way complimented the sweet Marsala sauce, in fact because of the poor quality, it detracted from it. What I was left with was two chicken cutlets drenched in a mediocre Marsala sauce with canned mushrooms on top. Blah. Again, it wasn't horrible, but not what you would expect from a place with this type of reputation. There's a chain place by the mall not far away called Luigi's. There chicken Marsala is far superior and it's not the best I've ever had by a long shot. My daughter had the Fettucine Alfredo. Again, fair at best. The Alfredo sauce was rather pasty and clumpy and not particularly flavorful. My 9 yr. old son ordered a small sausage pizza. As hard as it is to believe, it may have been the best dish on the table. It was a very nice combination of sause, chesse and sausage on a very nice hand tossed dough. The crust was hand rolled very nicely and the whole thing was cooked just right. Sad that a kids pizza was the best thing put on the table. In summary, this place was not awful by any means but clearly not in the upper echelon of Italian cuisine by any means. And though I didn't think the prices were exceptionally high, considering what was expected with what was delivered, it clearly isn't worth the price. I don't mind paying top dollar for a meal as long as you get top dollar food and service, this place just doesn't deliver. Take a pass! read more

This place is NOT CELIAC FRIENDLY. I asked for the gluten free menu and they said they didn't have it despite the website saying they do at all locations. They have gluten free pasta but it was overcooked and mushy. I had a reaction from gluten contamination. Best chicken parm I have ever eaten in my entire life. You will pay a lot per dish but the portion sizes are far too big! You will go home with leftovers I promise. Their red sauce is amazing. You can taste the basil and garlic in it. Not too crazy about its atmosphere and location. Used to be located on the riverwalk and they had balconey seating over the water. It was quiet and romantic...then it burned down after an oven fire. Now it is noisy and not so intimate. Would have given it five stars otherwise because the food is great! read more

Probably one of the worst management experiences I have experienced at a restaurant. Please keep in mind that we dine at this location several times a year as I share our experience. We had a 6:30 reservation and we were seated on-time at a lovely table. First issue was a simple request for a bottle Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. I didn't mind paying the premium of 60 dollars for a bottle that I can purchase Costco 17.99. But hey this location clearly can't manage their liquor distribution. I guess Christmas snuck up on them since it was moved to the 25th of December. :). I can clearly see how this confused the sharp management team. The rest of the meal was ok and the food came in a timely manner including the two hairs in my wife's meal. She asked me not to complain as we were out with our four kids. Now for the fun. I purchased 200.00 in gift cards earlier in the day for 180.00 from Costco. We have done this same move before and at other restaurants such as Sullivan's and well as this. restaurant. Our total bill prior to the tip was 205.00 which include a lousy bottle of their house Pinot Griogio at 40.00 a bottle. Out waiter came by with the bill and I laid down 200 in gift cards and my cc for the delta and tip. Our waiter quickly came back and told me they couldn't process our gift cards because I purchased them the same day. I asked to speak to the manager. A hostess came by to share the same story. I voiced my view via "not my problem" as I viewed this as their issue. No indication on the Costco receipt or the gift card does it indicate not valid for 24 hours. Keep in mind we have done this before. Now I can see the manager hiding and giving directions. The icing on the cake came after 10 minutes when the same hostess came and tossed the processed bill onto the table and I stressed tossed with a "hey enjoy your night". Clearly a business running their margins thin and generally mis-managed. Maybe we should go backs and look at the suspicious location fire that allowed them to move. Clearly a corrupt business. As always the food at Rosebud's is consistent and delicious. We have always enjoyed dining at Rosebud's for both lunch and dinner but we have noticed a big difference in the service since it seems there has been a total turn around in the wait staff. All of the familiar faces are gone and along with that is that "personal touch" you received. The last three times we have dined we have had less then stellar service. Today we had lunch and our server visited our table to take our order, clean up our dishes and ask us if we were done. Not once did he ask if we wanted our drinks to be refilled, ask if we wanted more bread, or ask if we wanted dessert or coffee. In fact, we were in and out in less than a half hour, and the sad part was he was taking care of our table and one other. It was always the food and service together that keeps us coming back but it is becoming less favorable for us to return because of the lack of personal attention and service we are consistently receiving. With all of the choices downtown Naperville has to offer Rosebud will most likely fall on our list of choices. read more

First of all, they have changed their menu so many times, I was not even sure what to expect when I went there. Last I remembered, they served American Cuisine, then back to Italian but was no longer meant be upscale. The place was very empty and we had to constantly badger our waitress for bread and soda refills. When she finally brought bread, we still had to hound her down for olive oil. Oh well, I can deal with poor service. We were then shocked to notice that everything was around $20 or more and the menu was very limited. I had a difficult time trying to find something I wanted. Since I'm a fatty American, if I pay $20 for pasta, I feel that it should either be amazing or I should get at least two meals out of it, which brings me to my next complaint. I ordered alfredo and added chicken (which costs about $5 extra). It was horrible and didn't taste like anything. The sauce was watered down and the chicken...Oh My Gosh. It was dry and just seasoned with salt and pepper. No spices or flavoring at all. Salt and Pepper, Rosebuds, really? Not even garlic salt for this classy operation. Not to mention, they didn't even bother to cut up the chicken breast for me. That'd probably be $5 more. They put an whole chicken breast on my pasta. This must be how classy people are served. My hubby got pizza which actually came out with a black crust. Not just brown, charcoal the entire way around. The worst part is that they actually tried to serve this to him and were shocked when he asked about it. Again, no seasoning (not even oregano, which I put on frozen pizzas at home) and scarce toppings for a crazy amount of money. I actually counted ten slices of green pepper. If you like to pay a lot for terrible food and awful service, Rosebuds is for you. I tell everyone I can that this place is terrible and pride myself in the fact that I have lost them some business. read more

Average food, terrible service. I will say that the one on Taylor Street runs circles around this one in every conceivable measure. Before the old place burned down, I was there twice. The service was some of the worst I've ever seen, inattentive, rude, and slow. It was so bad at one point that a waiter was tearing butcher block paper off holder on the wall near our table and hit someone in our party in the back of the head (hard enough to spill her drink) and didn't apologize. As a result, I had a bad taste in my mouth about the Naperville location. However, tonight we decided to try the new location. The valet parker, was awesome. Friendly, thanked us for coming in, gave me high hopes that maybe the place turned a corner. Aside from the entrees, this was the highlight of the nig The place is obnoxiously loud. I can't emphasize this enough. Noise in restaurants doesn't usually bother me. That being said, the noise in this place makes Heaven on Seven look like Everest. So that doesn't help. After we were seated (near the kitchen) we were greeted (after about 15 minutes) by our waiter. I asked if they had Bulleit rye for a manhattan (I hadn't gotten the wine list yet with a listing of their spirits....of course I later found out that they had Bulleit but the waiter didn't know). The waiter said no, so I ordered one of their "specialty drinks" a Woodford Reserve Manhattan. He asked if I wanted it neat. I said, "No, up". After an Abbot and Costello-esque exchange, he came back, 10 minutes later) with a Woodford Reserve served neat in a snifter. I told him I ordered a Woodford Manhattan and he tried to tell me that's what it was. After explaining three more times the drink came back with no apology after another 10 minute wait. I actually had to say, no I said MAN-HAT-TAN not Woodford Neat. Just a very itchy and uncomfortable moment. The stuffed mushrooms were cold, to the point that the butter in the sauce had semi-congealed. However, we couldn't find the waiter to ask him to heat them up as he was off doing other things. After waiting for 10 minutes, we decided just to eat them. That being said the flavors were good. The Caprese salad was well presented but the tomatoes were incredibly mushy (though I know that's a risk to take when ordering tomatoes out of season). Entrees were fantastic. All three entrees ordered by the table were well executed and very good. Gnocchi, Cavatelli, and Mama's Gravy all very well done. Also the restaurant has an open kitchen, that we were near. The line cooks burned garlic on three different occasions and it filled the restaurant with smoke and that horrid bitter smell that scorched garlic has. I know it's nit picking, but it was making our eyes water during two of the times. When boxing our leftovers, the waiter took one plate, returned it. Then he didn't return for another almost 15 minutes before getting the other two. Overall, the biggest problems I had were: the drink thing without an apology kind of sticks in my craw, we had empty water glasses for over a half hour on two different occasions, and we had to ask for more bread three different times before we got it. I wanted to like this place more, and love the Taylor Street location, but there's too many solid Italian places in this area to make me even consider visiting this place again. The Taylor Street location has customer service down to an art, this was pathetic in comparison. I wanted to talk to the manager, but again waited at the front for about 10 minutes and was told he was busy. That seems to be case for all aspects of service in this place. The Valet Parker though was every bit as friendly as when we came in. I wish that kid was our waiter. read more

I was in here last night (January 4th) and had only the chicken piccata and a drink. Then the following morning in woke up with some bad food poisoning and puked three times. Don't get me wrong the food is good and the atmosphere is nice, but they either gave me undercooked chicken or chicken that had been sitting for a bit. I definitely consumed something bad. read more

Went to Rosebuds in Naoerville for my birthday. What a huge letdown. We thought we'd give it a try in the new location to see if it lived up to the hype. I had the Pork chop and my partner ordered one of the specials. First of all, he did not get what he ordered, instead they brought him Grandmas Gravy. The sauce was heavy, thick and overly spiced with a glob of ricotta cheese on top. It was god-awful! I order the Pork Chop Calabrese and it was worse. The chops were tough and the sauce was too spicy. On a positive note the wine was excellent, but certainly not a generous pour for $10.00 a glass. The Waite staff is friendly and courteous, but nothing is compelling enough to ever get us back there again. With so much good Italian food in this city, this ranks at the bottom of the scale. read more

First visit to the new digs and while my experience was fine, I'm not in any hurry to get back. The hostess and valets were really friendly. And while our server missed his calling as a used car salesman (laying on a thick layer of schmooze and compliments from the moment we sat down), I'd say he was aggressively friendly. He checked in multiple times to tell us he would be back to actually attend to us over the course of dinner. He got everything right and with a smile so I guess I shouldn't complain. The staff are the reason for my 3 stars. The rest was "meh" (2 stars). Which brings me to decor. I am NOT a fan of the new space. I enjoy the cozy, semi-creative decor of Rosebud's urban siblings way more than this gaping one-room deal. It's more modern and open than the old Rosebud, and the noise makes it impossible to hear your companions. The tables are small and in close quarters. I understand it's Naperville and I appreciate a lively atmosphere but I had to give up trying to shout to everyone but those seated immediately next to me. No good. The warm bread before the meal was a table-pleaser and I really liked the olive oil. I had the "famous" square noodles in tomato sauce. Huge portion, good pasta, nothing special. My companions enjoyed a huge salad, chicken dish, and salmon dinner. All gigantic portions at reasonable prices. It was my husband's birthday so the waiter brought us a small chocolate mousse cake with a candle, gratis. Nice touch, much appreciated. These people are VERY friendly and welcoming. I wish I could give the staff 5 stars. Anyway, I just don't see myself hurrying back. I like cozy Italian joints where I can hear my date, - like Carmine's or Rosebud on Taylor. I'm willing to deal with slightly higher prices and less friendly staff if I get ambiance. This new, modern Rosebud just isn't my style. read more

When planning to be in Naperville this weekend, I made a reservation at Rosebud because Italian food sounded good. It was very busy and we were told we would have to wait, but when we spotted two open seats at the pizza bar, they were able to seat us there right away. The pizza looked and smelled delicious so I had high hopes for our dinner. Normally this is the part where I get on my high horse about service but I'll begin instead with my complete disappointment with the food. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs - if someone asked me "what is your favorite food of all time?" I would answer with Spaghetti and Meatballs each time. The dish looked impressive but how could half a pound of pasta and nearly a pound of meatballs not look amazing? The meatballs were tender but flavorless. I probably could have gotten past that (and did eat the meatball because I was starving, having not eaten much all day in anticipation of a big Italian dinner) but the spaghetti sauce was just not good. Spaghetti sauce should be deep red, rich, robust with herbs and garlic, thick enough to coat the pasta but not so thick that it weighs everything down. The Rosebud spaghetti sauce was bland, weak, and loaded with cheese. Even a generous sprinkling of salt was not able to save this dish. My boyfriend - who rarely complains about food - had the cheese ravioli and the ravioli itself was good, but he said the same thing about the tomato sauce on his dish. The service was not what I would expect in a place that charges $17 for spaghetti and meatballs. As mentioned, it was busy in there but our waitress seemed exceptionally busy. When she asked if I wanted a box (for a large portion of remaining spaghetti) and I said no, she should have asked if everything was okay, but she didn't. I like the chaotic ambiance of the restaurant, and loved sitting at the pizza bar because I got to watch them make pizzas and desserts, but otherwise the experience isn't one that bears repeating. read more

Let me start out by saying I am a huge Rosebud fan. I have eaten at their resturants probably 30 times and have always loved it. This review is specifically about the 22 Chicago ave location. Not so much. This resturant is quite the departure from the resturant it replaces 1 block away. Naperville likes to call itself a "Kid friendly city" I think that is exactally what has happened to this resturant, its turned into a Naperville Pizza Hut!! 1. Way to loud. 2. Food did not seem to reach the standards I have come to expect from Rosebud. (Had Chicken Parm, Flavor was a bit lacking, pasta was barley sauced - Sill $30 for entree drink and tip) Service was fair - BUT again 75% of what I got at the old location. The Chicken Saltimbocca was a soupy mess, and I regret my avoidance of the herd mentality (all five of the other guys went with the bottomless spaghetti and meatballs). The manager greeted me on his way out and told me our waiter would take care of our table. I asked her where my gf's drink was she said oh sorry what did she order? When the food came it was cooked but you could tell it was nuked, super hot, and by the time it cooled off to the point where it could be eaten we waited 20 minutes. After my previous review, someone from Rosebud contacted me and sent us a gift card to try them out one more time. My husband and I went over the weekend, and it was definitely our best visit. Our server, Laura, was very friendly and attentive. Since we had previously been disappointed with the pasta, we went with salads and pizza. Both were quite delicious. I wish all of our visits had been as nice as this one, but I definitely respect them trying to make it up to us. I'm giving them another star. read more
