We were VERY disappointed. I've lived in Naperville most of my life and I had been to Rosebud many times at the previous location (BEFORE they made it a hamburger and pizza place!) First of all, we had a reservation but had to wait 10-15 minutes for a table when we arrived. Next, they wanted to seat us at a table directly next to the bar where there were so many people standing they were literally almost touching the tables. The place was so crowded, nobody could move around. It's a bad design. The kitchen takes up a third of the space and generates so much heat and add to that the crowd and suddenly it's like an oven in the entire place. Once we were seated we realized how ridiculously LOUD it is in there. It is by far the loudest restaurant I've even been in. It makes other loud restaurants seem like libraries. It was so bad that we were literally yelling at each other just to communicate. When the waitress came over we had to yell back and forth just to hear each other. I asked the waitress about the noise and she said, "isn't it ridiculous?" So now we're late, hot and screaming at each other to communicate. Not a good start and we've had no food or drinks yet! We tried to make the best of it and enjoy our meal. We ordered drinks and they were fine. We then ordered our meal and all seemed OK besides the inferno and 100 decibel noise that both continued. The appetizer (calamari) arrived and it was excellent! We ate it up and after a fairly long wait the entrees arrived and then we realized that our salads had never come. We asked the waitress and she was shocked to hear they had not brought he salads. She was a very good waitress who was professional, pleasant and very accommodating but she was obviously so busy that she could not keep tabs on everything. She apologized about the salads and we decided we did not want them since the entrees had arrived. Two of us ordered vela and it was outstanding except it was so salty that it was hard to eat. I say outstanding because the flavor, other than the salt, was superb. It was the most tender val I've had in quit e a long time and the light breading was excellent. If it was not so good, we might have sent it back but by this time we wanted to finish and leave. After the meal the waitress must have told the manager we were not happy so he came over and asked us how everything was. I must say I was shocked at his total lack of interest in our answer. As we explained how the night had gone he couldn't have cared less. His comment about the ridiculous noise level was :It's designed that way to be a fun atmosphere". He offered NO apology or consideration for the fact that we never received our salads or the overly salted food. I was going to give it another try but after his reaction, I WILL NEVER return to this restaurant. There are plenty of other choices who are more worthy and seem to actually care about their customers and their satisfaction. Stay clear of Rosebud! read more

This place was PACKED, but for good reasons! The service was fast and the food was delicious.

Sausage very good! Meatballs almost as good. Flat noodle big portion loved by my family was a-ok to me. Cavatelli is lil pasta filled and next time I'd prefer a side of rigatoni or a different noodle even the kids cheese ravioli but the rich Alfredo sauce was tasty. Service at the bar on a Monday afternoon around happy hour was so so. Manager was coaching bar staff on not being so generous with pours to increase profitability. The atmosphere when you walk in the door was very festive and cheerful. We were greeted by many of the staff and promptly seated at our reserved table. We were quickly greeted by wait staff in a very pleasant manner. While we were waiting to order our food, a friendly gentleman was making his way around the restaurant asking how things were going. He also came later towards the end of our dinner. We ordered two glasses of wine, a house salad and lobster bisque soup to start, all were terrific! For our main entrees, we ordered lobster dejonghe and grouper. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and walked us through all the options because it was our first time there. When describing the lobster, the server was describing the ingredients and stated "all that crap on top." Although this was somewhat humorous, we were shocked that would be said at a fine dining establishment. We were notified that they were out of grouper (the daily special) so we ordered the whitefish instead. The server recommended getting the fish highland park style, which came with steamed spinach, cherry tomatoes, artichoke hearts, and shrimp. During this time, we were offered more bread with oil and cheese which was great. The presentation of the food was spectacular and we couldn't wait to start enjoying it. The first bite of the whitefish noticed my wife to make my try a bite because she liked it so much. Everything in the entree was great except the shrimp were extremely rubbery and chewy. The first bite of the lobster entree was amazing, however, as I continued through the dish, I found a piece of hair and the lobster was extremely chewy and took away from the entree. The additions toppings had pleasing appeal. Overall, the service and the atmosphere was excellent (expect for the "all that crap" comment). The price of the food did not reflect the quality of what was expected. We came here for our anniversary excited to try a new venue and left discussing we may not return. It may have been an off day, however when you're paying 50 dollars for an entree, it's something I would not take a risk in again. We rarely spend this much on a an entree and reserve these times for special occasions, so it was disappointing. I hope in the future they do more quality control testing before sending food to the guest. read more

I went with 2 other women tonight. The food was good but I would never come again. We girls had not seem each other for a month and were looking forward to a drink, maybe two, and relax over a nice dinner. I like am attentive waiter but he drove us crazy. We were rushed to order dinner so we skipped appetizers with our drinks. We were CONSTANTLY interrupted and then bread, olive oil and bread plates taken off the table in the middle of the meal. Really wanted to like Rosebud more then I did. The modern Decor and friendly service are by far the highlights of Rosebud.I made good time and arrived before my party and the hostess was nice to seat me and bring my party to the table when they arrived. My first impression after being seated was how close together the tables are here, For the prices they are charging I would like a bit more privacy and to not have to yell over the loud noise in the dinning room to talk to others at my table. Our servers were both very nice and knew the menu well. My family had a few questions about the entrees and they knew exactly how they were prepared. For dinner I had the pizza. It was cooked in a wood fired oven and a good size. While it tasted pretty good it wasn't worth the prices being charged here. Over all the food here is good and this is a nice change from the normal spots when we need something different. High prices and close seating keep Rosebud from being a place I would go to more often. read more

What at waste of time and money. We ordered Easter dinner for pickup. We were instructed to call prior to our arrival and the food we be brought to our car. We called a instructed. We waited 35 minutes before calling back -- thinking Rosebud have experienced a backed up of orders. We learned that they had just forgotten to deliver the order to our car. When the order was delivered to the car, we were told that they no longer had the dessert we order but they had substituted the tiramisu for another dessert. What Italian restaurant runs out of tiramisu at 5 o'clock? But, wait, It gets worse. I knew we should have checked the order. We arrive home and unpack the dinner. The food was slightly warm due to sitting out for over an hour. In addition, Rosebud packed the wrong vegetable which only one of us was able to eat. And to top it off, there was no substitute dessert in the bags. Given the amount of time spent waiting for the dinner and the multitude of problems with the order, I decided to call Rosebuds to notify them of the situation. I was apologetically told that the manger would get to me later that night "to make things right". It should not be a surprise that the manager at Rosebud never called back. Great portions, Im sure the service is usually good but went there with a client and the particular waiter was not being friendly so I talked to owner and they ended up offering a free desert which we did not take because we ended up leaving. Went with a few coworkers to get some "fine dining" since we have not been eating healthy the past week we've been in town for work. A fellow coworker recommended Rosebud and raved about it so was looking forward to a good meal. The night started off well with the gentleman at the hostess stand giving us the last booth available in the restaurant. The waitress was very polite and the service was excellent; it was the food though that was the big disappointment. I ordered the salmon on linguini special that was supposed to have crab under it. I never did see the crab :(. About halfway in eating the salmon, I bit down on something a bit to crinkly, never did find a bone but quickly put that mouthful in the napkin. The linguini was good and the sauce was decent but not what I would expect for the price. I had a Prosecco with my meal and that was delicious. Decided to make up for the subpar meal with my favorite dessert; Creme Brûlée. Excited about ending the meal on a happy note, the Creme brûlée arrived and it was the first time I've ever received it and the sugar topping was not crunchy but instead pliable and almost sponge like. Truly crestfallen, I decided to allow others to try the dessert (normally I keep the Creme brûlée to myself! Haha). The others in my group said their meals were very good (one got the steak medium rare and the other got a pasta dish with prosciutto). Managers on the floor are still nice. Had to ask for drink refills, busboy was very accommodating and present , which the server was not. We've lived here for 2.5 years now and it's still one of my favorite restaurants downtown naperville. Feels like a throwback to an old fashioned Italian restaurant. SO cozy and it's nice that tables are not crammed in. Getting a booth is my favorite spot. Service is ALWAYS amazing, from the moment you walk in. There were a number of problems with my dinner at Rosebud. I am new to Lisle, but I hope I can find better Italian elsewhere. First, it took several minutes after sitting down for someone to bring us water. It came with the bread. The bread was great, but I was thirsty. Second, the food was good but not great. It was pretty bland. For the price, I expect much better and can get it other places. Third, there were pieces of plastic in my food. I didn't say anything at the time because I seriously thought maybe my fillings were coming out or something, but I haven't had any problems since, so it seems likely that it was Rosebud. Fourth, we are vegetarian, and we always ask our waiter what they recommend. Our waiter seemed surprised and had no idea what to recommend. read more

They are not replicating what is or was a success in the city, and they end up with another "good enough to get by" restaurant, like this one. Just another chain. Even though the place burns out/down every several years, and they attempt to reinvent themselves, it just doesn't work out well. But for people who don't know what really good food tastes like, this kind of place is good enough. The food is ok. I agree with the general consensus: the food was very good and our server (Eric K.) was excellent. The place is loud and the structural changes that were made, were not necessary and only add to the noisy atmosphere. The restaurant will look old and beat up in about 6 months; I see scratches on the wood walls already. There is no continuity between the concept, decor and the prices. Conceptualization does not seem to be a strong suit with this restaurant company. Biggest opportunity, it needs to be managed. I saw at least 2 managers who conversed with each other, spoke on their phones at the pass shelf at least 4 times while we were there, but never once interacted with any guests. The Chef/Kitchen Manager did speak with one table, but the amount of trips to this one table and the time he spent there makes me conclude they were friends. The cleaning crew was mopping the private dining room with chemicals what were incorrectly proportioned and were so strong that she opened the side door to air it out; unfortunately, we were freezing and no one seemed to notice until we said something. Hard to enjoy the good tasting food when the chemical smell is so strong that it's the only thing you can taste. read more

First off, the food was 4 stars. Fried calamari could have been cut into thinner rings to make it even more tender. The red gravy was very good, although the tomato seeds were left in. These 2 things seem lazy for a restaurant that charges like they are a 5 star restaurant. The service was horrible. Again for a restaurant that charges like a 5 star restaurant, there is no secondary staff (busboys or assistants) to help with serving, clearing plates and filling waters. They were busy, but not packed. The servers do not help each other, we had to ask a different server with a water pitcher to fill our glasses.( She had no intent on stopping at our table, even after eye contact and looking at our empty glasses) I fault management for not proper training. Let them go to work at Mortons SteakHouse for a week and they will see the difference. My bill with tip was $120 for 2 adults and 2 kids. It would have been at least $25 more for desserts, but we were dissappointed and left to go elsewhere for dessert. The food is very close to being worth the prices but this is the second time in a row that we had service that was well below par. We will not be back. read more

The gelato and tiramisu were also delicious. This is definitely a kid friendly place. Make sure they seat you in the back area. We were in tonight and had some very slow service. We had a new waiter who did nothing wrong and was trying hard but we had a sitter at home and were trying to get home. Drinks took a very long time (and one was wrong) and entree didn't arrive for 1hr and 15 min. Talked with the general manager who went beyond good customer service. My boyfriend surprised me with dinner here for my birthday. I had never been to Rosebud's before, but had driven past the restaurant multiple times. I ordered the fettuccine alfredo with chicken, which was pretty good! The noodles were cooked to perfection and I'm pretty sure they make the pasta fresh in the restaurant. My cousin and I were graduating university the same day and decided to book our party of 9 at Rosebud due to previous experiences. We made reservations about a month or two ahead of the day. The night of we come in and are seated. Thus began the worst dinner we have ever had at Rosebud. First off there was a party of individuals either late 20s or early 30s who were veryyyy loud in the small party riom we were in. They had been there for a while before us and we wished that the managament would have realized that no group would want to be next to loud intoxicated individuals. So we order our drinks one person orders a bowl of soup. It comes out as a cup. We ask for a bowl they take it back comes out and looks like its just been sloshed in the new bowl and comes out to be cold. So we sent it to be reheated. Throughout our wait for the meal we had to ask for refills of bread, butter, oil, and drinks. Once we get our entrees 2 individuals pastas were cold. They were sent back and came back hot, however we were highly disappointed in the fact that the one ravioli dinner had clearly only been broiled and even made one of the raviolis inedible since it had been burnt. Once we got the check we were quite surprised to see that we had not recieved anything off due to the numerous issues with our food or even given a simple apology from managment. Being such a large party and a large bill we expected to have a lot better service especially for the price point. I will make sure in the future to book our large group dinners at lou malnatis where the service was of a much higher caliber and the waitress/waiter actually deserves the large tip. read more

My husband and I dined at the Rosebud in Naperville this afternoon. Our food was good (good lunch time portions) but the service was poor. I had to ask our waiter four times to refills our drinks. He passed by our table on several occasions to clean other tables never asking if we needed anything. I requested a water with no ice and the waiter appeared to grimace at me! I felt uncomfortable asking for such a simple request. Once our lunch was served the waiter never came back. We finished lunch and I could see him in the back room preparing silverware. After ten minutes I went to find him and asked for the bill and a box. We will likely not be returning since there are other Italian restaurants that are similarly priced who truly value good service. read more
