I came to Rosebud for my friend's brother's birthday dinner. They got a dinner reservation in advance for her family and I (we had a group of 6). Located in Naperville, Rosebud has several locations in the Chicago area and are owned under the Rosebud restaurant group. This particular location is in downtown Naperville and serves high-quality, authentic Italian cuisine. The inside has a modern aesthetic with an upscale, romantic atmosphere. I will say this restaurant seems more appropriate for special occasions and formal dinners. The dress code should is smart-casual or business-casual, this is not a casual restaurant. Service seemed a little off and the kitchen was definitely behind. We arrived 10 minutes after our reservation and our table still wasn't ready. We were seated as soon as it was ready, but you could tell they were swamped. The bread took about 15 minutes to come out and it wasn't super warm or fresh. Our server gave us plenty of time to look over the menu, a little too much. But he seemed very busy keeping up with the other tables, so it was more understandable. We put out appetizers and entrees in together to try and speed things up. The kitchen was extremely backed up. It took nearly 20-25 minutes to receive our appetizers. And at least another 30 for our entrees. While this was frustrating, it happens. They also forgot to add shrimp to one of the entrees, although they did take it off the bill. The other aspects of the service were wonderful though. Our waters were filled very frequently by various staff. We had the manager check-in on us a couple times as well. It was clear they were trying to do their best that night. Our server was very personable and friendly too. For the food, we started with some bread and olive oil. They do replenish the bread too. The second basket we received was much fresher than the first. For appetizers, we ordered the grilled calamari and garlic knots. The grilled calamari came with sautéed peppers and had some sort of balsamic olive oil dressing. The dressing was quite strong and the calamari had a strong charred taste. This wasn't the best, but it wasn't bad either. The garlic knots were phenomenal! With just the right amount of oil, garlic, and parmesan, they were soft and just delectable. For my entree, I ordered the Gnocchi Bolognese. This was a generous portion and had lovely presentation. The bolognese sauce was decent with a good amount of veal and beef. I wish it had more of a robust flavor though. The dollop of creme fresh on top made the dish really creamy! The gnocchi was decently tender, not too soft or overcooked. Wasn't "wowed" by this dish, but was satisfied. Overall, my experience at Rosebud could have been a little better. Communication seemed to be off that night. Kitchen was extremely backed up and a lot of errors were made. Luckily some items were taken off the final bill, which was nice. The food was good, not great. I enjoyed the atmosphere, but again, was expecting more out of the overall service.

The service by Alexa was perfect on a gloomy Monday night! We had not been since the remodel - and while they don't have any more room - the noise is not a problem anymore The food was delicious! We started w the meatballs for the table and they were wonderful, as was a (huge) side salad. Then came the (huge) entrees: salads were wonderful as was the cheese rav, the tortellini, the pappardelle, and the (huge, huge,HUGE) chic parm - seriously I have 2-3 meals left and it looks more like a pizza! Desert was a wonderful cannoli (and it was on house as we were celebrating a bday)! Yeah the parking sucks across the street (the other car in our party found it in the lot) but it's worth it! Glad we rediscovered Rosebud!

A HUNDRED STARS. The manager and our server were incredibly friendly. Service was quick and the ambiance was classic yet modern. We snagged a patio seat and ordered the lasagna and brick chicken; a perfect date night. Enough room for a stroller, too!

    What about parking?

There is a shared parking lot with other establishments such as bar Louie. Then across the street and slightly down the block, there is a parking garage that is free. Finally, they have valet. When we went I think it was $10.

I ordered garlic bread and a 14" meat lovers pizza to go. They do have some seating inside, more seating than I expected. Initially, the garlic bread was okay. It has a more buttery taste than the other ones I've had. After I reheated it on my pizza stone, it became very tasty and crispy. The garlic bread I give it is 4.5. It tastes great if you use a pizza stone. The pizza on the other hand, I was underwhelmed. I ate it when it was fresh as well as on the pizza stone. The crust is bland and tasteless. The sauce was great. The toppings were okay. I ordered this ultra thin, crispy, and extra sauce. Pizza is like 2.5-3. Overall experience is a 3. This is a one and done for me.

Walking in, I gravitated towards the sign of specials, and then was guided to a table. Along with complimentary bread, I was treated to the sight of an owner (Mama Brasi, as one customer called her) who was visibly engaged in the lives of the clientele, both with repeat customers carrying out as well as with a family dining in, and their little girl who was a fan of salads. A hot bowl of minestrone arrived and added to the warm feelings. But it was the eggplant involtini special that was the star. Cooked and seasoned well, a healthy supply of sauce (I could see some sauce fiends wanting more, but I was content), and enough to take home a bit for lunch the next day. Early November was a little chilly sitting by the door, so keep that in mind for colder months, as there's not much they can do about that.

However, when I asked for a water refill or a new plate, he got it. I would say average but not above average service. We ordered dragon fries, baked ziti, and supreme pizza with the caramelized crust. Overall this is like a 3. 3 for me is a one and done. I wanted to try a new pizza place but this was a disappointment. -dragon fries 5 - this was good. The sauce is tangy with some spice. It's not super spicy but this would go well on wings. -baked ziti 2 - I had a lot of pasta and this one was one of the worst. The noodles tasted a bit too rubbery, it should be softer. The sauce had no flavor. -supreme pizza 3 - maybe I should have gotten the tavern style because the supercharged pizza tasted doughy and kind of bland. I even reheated it on my pizza stone at home and it does taste better with a crispier crust. However, it was still mid.

I've had some really great arancini before, and these were alright. The sauce was the highlight, with a nice flavor and a slight kick to it. We were told the pizzas were personal-sized, so everyone in our group ordered their own. When they arrived, they were huge. I went with the Fredo, a more traditional-style pizza, and it was pretty solid with good toppings and flavor. Others at the table ordered the Detroit-style pizzas, and they looked incredible, I wish I had taken some photos. The general consensus was that the pizzas were a bit too bready, but they had good flavor, great presentation, and a nice crispy crust. Service was okay. It took a while for our server to take our order, and I wish we had been advised to share a few pizzas instead of ordering individually. We all ended up taking most of our pizzas to go, but with dinners planned throughout the rest of the trip, they unfortunately didn't get eaten later. Overall, a decent spot with solid pizza and generous portions.

Its very hard to find spots that can accommodate our very particular palates, and even more hard to find good vegan options outside of the city. Thats why I was excited to find this lovely Italian restaurant. The parking lot is small but there's a good amount of sidestreet parking. The inside is warm, cozy and super clean (including the restrooms ). The hospitality stood out right away. The owners and wait staff were very welcoming, and our server was fantastic; honest (which I appreciate), knew the menu well, and once she realized our situation, gave us some wonderful direction on what to order. I wouldn't say that the menu is overwhelming, but I rarely go to a restaurant where it takes me that long to decide what I want. There are lots of interesting options, from braised short rib ravioli to baked ziti, and several tasty appetizers (highly recommend the calamari). But we had come for the PIZZA. My daughter got the kids cheese pizza. It was surprisingly bigger than we thought, and at a great price. The kid only ate half before she said, "I like it...this might be better than [insert famous Chicago pizza brand]." (you MUST KNOW that this is high praise from a 3rd grader). My wife ordered the "They Don't Have Beef With Me" vegan Detroit-style pizza, and I have to admit, it was very good. Somehow they pulled off a buttery (but not butter) crust with melty vegan cheese (but NOT cheese ). Absolutely nailed it. I would have eaten more of hers if I hadn't ordered the Butcher pizza from the wood-fired menu. It was OUTSTANDING. Great flavor, perfect texture. Easily one of thee best wood-fired pizzas I've ever had. We're not drinkers, but they do have a good wine list and some nice zero-proof options, including the Amber Apple and The Drip. We didn't make it to dessert, mostly because the portions are generous, so our bellies (and our to-go boxes) were full. We will definitely be back to try other menu options and for dessert. If your family or friend group includes picky palates or dietary restrictions (the pizzas can be made gluten-free as well), then run...don't walk...to Fiammé. 100/10 recommend.
