In some 60+ years of watching Chicago baseball, I came to this park for the very first time that I can recall with the Sox in 1st place, woot woot! How do I rate the Chicago White Sox? I'll first have to admit that I'm basically a fair weather Chicago fan and only pay attention and support the team if it's winning and in the race. So, I'll just say the Sox are nice to have around, and having 2 Chicago teams is better than having 1, but they will admittedly always be in the shadow of the Cubs. In my lifetime, the Cubs have been winners more often than the Sox. But beyond that, Sox management has never really invested in star talent nor fan appeal around their park. Even when they are winning, they never have a true sellout crowd. Having said that, the Sox are nice to have around because if I want to see a Major League game, good tickets are always readily available and reasonably priced to see the team and whomever they're playing. Rate Field is also ok as a major league venue and they have outstanding food options to boot. I just bought 7 tickets for a family weekend outing at Rate Field and only paid $29 per ticket on StubHub for right field upper deck section 522, row 3. You can hardly get 7 seats together at Wrigley Field on a weekend and it would have cost at least $100 per ticket as well. The Sox are winning these days, and this year they have 3 players making the 2026 AL All-Star team, namely 1B Munetaka Murakami, 3B Miguel Vargas, and CF Tristan Peters. They're the big surprise team in the Majors this year, and I really don't know how they did it after losing a record breaking 121 games in 2024 and 102 games in 2025. On this Sunday, 7-12-2026, they handily beat the Oakland A's 9-1 and completed a 3 game sweep. Go White Sox, and best of luck for the rest of the season!

Unfortunately we missed all but the last song for Queens Of The Stone Age because of another event we had that afternoon. The sound was amazing and I could hear every word clearly which is rare for an outdoor concert. The negative is the agonizingly slow exit. We shuffled along like cattle through exits out to Grant Park. It all ended with fireworks. A night not to be forgotten.

On stage is Elysabeth Alfano - Creator, Executive Producer, Producer & Host, and four guests, each with a specialty, usually related to the arts, and one of the guests is always a chef from a local establishment. My very first one, March 26, 2012, was with the Green Mill Poetry Slam founder Mark Smith ( who gave a wonderful performance), Chicago blues legend Billy Branch performing "Hoochie Coochie Man" on his harmonica, Naomi Beckwith Curator at the MCA, and Matt Troost from the restaurant Three Aces, making gnocchi and ribollita, and Guest artist Nicholas Barron performed that night as well! Elizabeth starts out interviewing each person, but also encourages conversation between the guests. In this case (March 2012) the guests got up and performed, and it was so wonderful. Then the chef gives a cooking lesson on the video monitor of the meal that he is preparing for the guests and then the meal is brought out with a tasting of wine to go with each and Voges Chocolates are served for dessert. It was a night to remember! So much fun, and interesting! The tickets were $40/pp (plus service charge) and promised wine tastings, dinner, dessert and great panelists. First of all there was 1 wine tasting (about an ounce of wine) other drinks need to be purchased. The food was tasty but very small & we had to wait and wait some more for it to be served. The panelists were entertaining but seemed much more interested in talking among themselves than to the audience. Tried to tweet in questions but they were not addressed. Not a great evening overall.

THere is someone walking around with water thank goodness. I had hoped to get a glimpse of Mayor Lightfoot but apparently I missed her with the public schools. But Comedian Lil Rel as the Grand Marshall was still awesome! There were some giveaways for the kids and of course political and corporate show-offs. But the main attraction are schools, bands, other community organizations. The CTA reroute was in effect, which meant walking from Cottage Grove to King Drive on 47th. No buses that I could see would take us there on 47th. We should have invested in chairs but the grassy area was fine. People engage in enterprise at the parade by having cookouts; LOTS of cookouts and food for sale. We had grabbed doughnuts and I don't usually crave a hamburger at 10:30 am but next time i'll be more adventurous.

The theme was Belief and there were a great number of scholars that had just written books on history, race religion, and politics, and it was an honor to meet them. I love that the book signings are easily accessible and allow you to feel briefly connected with the authors. I feel like I had some really mind altering exposures to new thoughts and ideas that will make me a better person and challenge me to be a better citizen and expand my reading. This is like church for a secular humanist, I wish we could have a service with a lecture per week! They record some lectures, I wish they would record all. I will probably be a member next time around ! Makes you kind of want to go back to college

Half of the area was seating areas, 2 stages with music (one bigger than the other), tent with seating and "bar" area and a sad selection for food and drinks. The other side was the carnival side. They did have booths, but basically nothing good. We walked around the whole thing pretty quickly, but we went back around again and got something to drink and sat for a bit. Then my guy got some tacos and the place was busy....so I thought they must be good....it's because it was only maybe 1-2 of the only stands that actually served food. It was clean and the staff were all very nice and friendly. Glad I checked it out, but once is enough. It is a 4 day thing.
