Yeah, we're with the other reviewers befuddled by the high marks here. First, definitely no lack of effort here. Family run, everyone hustled, and I think they care. It's just low end on the diner spectrum. J and I came in here a bit before 630 on a Sunday, actually grateful they were open. But, they were hopping. Walk in, nobody greeted us, dining room stared, the two servers were busy, and we seated ourselves up front at the counter. And we were ignored. Finally after a few minutes the male server got us some waters (we had grabbed our own menus) and said welcome. Probably close to ten minutes later and when we were contemplating ditching, the female server, who was very friendly, took our order. We were sitting 3 feet from the soda fountain and it took minutes to get our drinks. The cups of ice sat poised under their selections... why not just make the drink. You got the ice in the cup! Go the rest of the way! Food took awhile but to their credit, the kitchen was slammed with only two cooks. Food was mediocre. I got a BLT. It was white bread, heavy mayo (No complaint), yummy bacon, almost nonexistent tomato and the white core of lettuce. I chose the potato salad side. It appeared house made, which I appreciate but it was bland. J got chicken fried steak sandwich on a bun. It's a battered, fried hamburger, essentially. And his onion rings were a huge portion but sadly soggy. They need to turn up the heat on their grease. Also.... dunno what's in the open mason jars in the cold case to the right of the counter, but the melting ice from the top of the case, drips right into the contents of the jars, which they serve. Think it's the salsa. No good. read more

Eat until you explode. This is a place where you can really get your caloric intake for the day. Homemade sourdough bread is cut an inch thick for toast. Hash browns done the right way. Omelets that cover the plate. Pancakes that overlap the plate and are over one inch thick. This is a great place and not to be missed on a road trip to Denali. It is near the northern edge of Healy. One the first places you see when driving from Fairbanks to Healy. Strongest recommendation possible. read more

The epitome of a Mom & Pop Diner, Rose's Cafe has huge portions and classic American food. Service was very quick, and I was surprised at how big the serving sizes actually were. The large cinnamon bun was truly LARGE. It wasn't too yeasty, and the cream cheese frosting was tasty, but my favorite part was the cinnamon apples hidden in the bottom. The Denali and Cheese omelette was very fluffy and filling! The hashbrowns were nicely crispy on the outside and had a great consistency. My brother tried the Grizzly Burger with onion rings and loved it! The egg and ham on top of the burger were great finishing touches to the massive patty and bun. It's very typical diner food, which normally isn't my favorite, but Rose's Café is a great option for any visitors in Denali. read more

We went here for breakfast today and had a pretty good meal. The service was fine and the restaurant was pretty clean - it is seat yourself. The food was good to mediocre -- the main issue being the amount of butter (see my picture). The cinnamon roll was really good and icing was excellent even if it wasn't baked that day. The pancake was light and fluffy which was impressive given how massive the thing is...you could definitely just order one and call it a day. I strongly recommend to sourdough toast, is it light and fluffy and not as sour as the stuff in San Francisco. read more

I can't believe I'm just getting around to posting a review of Rose's Cafe in Healy. I worked in Denali summer 2020 and lived in Healy in our employee housing. My wife and I walked the 4 miles round trip to eat at Rose's at least once a week. If there's one thing I miss about living in Healy it's this little restaurant. The food is so good and consistent, big portions and the salsa is over the top. I love the giant pancakes but I usually ordered an omelet with their homemade sourdough toast. The ladies running the place are just the best. I wasn't always happy living in Healy this summer but every time I went to Rose's I was happy:) read more

Every single thing was incredible. We ordered a mocha, a cinnamon roll (HUGE), hash browns (crispy and delicious), the Monte cristo sandwich, and the burrito bomb. Their homemade salsa and the gravy they serve with the burrito were unmatched. I would make the trip back to Alaska just to come back to Rose's. read more

We wanted to like this place - We were there the first weekend in October, and the tourist season was largely over. The waitress was friendly, and we were hungry for dinner, having had no lunch because we'd been hiking in the park. The choices of food were largely lunch-like items, but hey we could deal with that. How could you go wrong with a burger and a grilled cheese, followed by a slice of pie a la mode? Turns out we underestimated how unappealing those things could be. We'd originally planned to go to breakfast there the next morning too (most other places nearby were closed), but our experience with dinner was poor enough we decided not to risk it, and instead drove back to Fairbanks and got breakfast there (a good decision). The food wasn't actually bad - it was just bland and unappealing. If you need sustenance, it will do - but it's like diner food from the 1950s before they upped their game with good ingredients - edible, but not good. And oh - did I say Alaska tourist prices? Yeah - for a burger, a sandwich, and a slice of pie a la mode we paid $30.20 plus tip. read more

Old timey joint that my friend has stopped at, decades ago. The food and pies are average, and they serve a huge platter-sized pancake instead of toast, if you ask for it, with your breakfast (served all day). Sort of a fun rustic rural kinda joint, if you're in the mood to try it. read more

Roses cafe, it is a nice all out American breakfast restaurant. It creates a fine cuisine in Healy AK and has a very nice patio. Today I had a wonderful experience with rose cafe,and the staff, They have a very hard working grandma doing waitressing , mom helping with the cashier and silver wares ,two teenagers wait tables serving drinks and making drinks and excellent hot cocoa! We were here in the off-season, so our options were limited. However, Rose's was really fantastic, and I doubt we could have had a better diner-type meal even if everything was open. You'll find your typical diner food here; great place to stop for a bite to eat if you're in town or heading towards Fairbanks. The ladies here are all very lovely and attentive, I've never had a bad experience to this day. They have some of the best coffee in town to be perfectly honest it's probably the cheapest you'll find as well. I was really Impressed with how clean they keep the bathrooms as well. They know the area so don't be afraid to ask for activity suggestions as well. Now on to the food, If you're into those super size pancakes you see on TV this is the place to go. Omelette's are my go to here and they sure do make sure it's a hearty Alaskan meal with their portion sizes. GET THE RHUBARB PIE OMG ok that is all enjoy everyone! read more

In the off-season this is the best place for miles around because it is the only place for miles around. Even famished after a long day, my food was barely passable. Never in a million years would I have thought grilled cheese could break my heart, but even now I can taste the disappointment. How does one flub grilled cheese? HOW?!? read more

WOW! If I lived in AK I would drive long long distances for this place. I just had the BEST French dip melt EVER. My husband said his chicken fried steak was the best he's had as well. We loved Roses cafe. We were in Healy for three days traveling to Denali National park and we ate breakfast here 2 out of the three days. The portions are large. Which was great for us because it allowed us to skip lunch while we were touring Denali and just eat dinner. The sourdough bread is amazing and a must eat. We did not order pancakes but saw someone else with a plate of them and it was larger then the plate. Just an all around great place to eat. read more
