Cute little grill in the middle of nowhere.... or what seems like the middle of nowhere. It's about 1/2 mile down the dirt road from Denali Lakeview Inn if you happen to be staying there which we were. Solid Eats. I was a little disappointed that my beer was warm, but I was thirsty and drank it anyways. The salmon on my salad was a bit dry, but tasty nonetheless. The little bits of mango and pecans were great additions to the salad that I would not normally do at home. Learned something new to do at home! My mom had the crab leg which was reasonably priced (IMO), was meaty and had really nice ( not too briny ) flavor. Note: if you happen to get the Paloma... it's a canned drink, and it's a sweet "cocktail". read more

This far exceeded my expectations! With a 3.5 star review i didn't expect much! But the portions were huge. The food was great! We ordered the mozzarella sticks and they tasted hand bread and were not greasy at all. We got lasagna spaghetti and meatballs and both came with huge salads and then we realized there was no way this placed deserved 3.5 stars only! I wish we had room for dessert because they all looked Great! The menu was so big it was hard to pick from All the yummy looking options. Too bad we were just passing though because I would definitely eat here again! And I would feel bad if I didn't mention how nice our waitress was. She was so personable and sweet. My wife and I ordered delivery since we were 0.7 tenths of a mile from the restaurant. This was a recommendation from our shuttle driver. There was confusion if delivery was an option, even then yes - no contact delivery is on the website. The catch was we must order at least $100 worth of food for delivery and recommended a $9 tip. We were both hungry after the long train ride from Anchorage with no transportation. I ordered the Alaskan King crab and the entree came with your selection of sides. The crab was good --- but the price point for two crab legs at $91 was a huge waste of money and disappointment. My wife had the shrimp nachos and was good. This was a huge disappointment. It was recommended to us by a local. She described it as the best food around. Apparently the bar is set pretty low here. There are some positives hence the 2 star rating. The dining room is casual but the view through the large windows is magnificent. It was rustic, spacious and full of light. The wait staff were very pleasant and welcoming. I ordered the Fresh Salmon with lemon caper butter. It came out with a cream sauce and the salmon did not taste fresh. The middle of the fillet was mushy and undercooked and the outside was dry and over cooked. The side of asperagus was woody and also overcooked. It was edible, but not very good. My husband ordered the New York strip. It was a huge portion, none of it edible. It was tough and gristly and well done - he ordered rare. He managed to hack off a few bites, but it was hard to chew. He said the fries were pretty good, but that was all he could eat. Our server offered to bring him another, but we declined. We were given half off his meal. I think we shouldn't have been charged for a meal he couldn't eat, but chose not to make an issue of it. Overall, I would not recommend this if you are expecting fine food. There are not a lot of options in Healy. Others have had a positive experience here. We just may have hit it on an off night. read more

Food was excellent. Party of 6, first night we had entrees. 3 of us had burgers cooked 3 different ways. All 3 burgers were right and their fries were excellent too. 2 of us had pasta dishes. Pasta was done right, not mushy. Sauces and flavors excellent. 1 had mini corn dogs off the kids' menu. Crispy outside, hot in the middle. Salads were fresh and satisfying. Service was extremely attentive and friendly! Portions are quite large, so extra points for having waxed cardboard takeaway boxes for leftovers instead of styrofoam. Second night was appetizers and desserts. Panna cotta, peanut butter ice cream pie, and brownie with ice cream. All very good! Ambience is bright and fun. Def recommend! read more

Good little place to get a yummy meal. Nice property out by a lake, atv activities, and farm animals. My kids loved the baby goats. We ordered the salmon salad and shrimp linguine with tomato soup. The salad was good, little over cooked on the salmon but still really good. The linguine was delicious! Shrimp definitely overcooked but didn't ruin the dish at all. Didn't get any bread with our to go order but we survived. The tomato soup left something to be desired...salt...flavor...something. The gal taking the to go order started and then took a phone call in the middle of the order. Didn't put them on hold to finish the order, just continued a conversation mid-order, little rude. I'm sorry to say we tried this place based on a recommendation. I had the salmon and my friend had the halibut. Both were flavorless and didn't taste fresh. We each had a potato dish on the side that had sat under the warmers to long and even the vegetables were over cooked. I don't like giving bad reviews but had to on this one. read more

Although our waitpersons was suburb ((Johnny), our meals (Halibut & Salmon) were both overcooked and flavorless, and WAY overpriced for what we got.....! The mash potatoes served with the salmon were just lukewarm, the "double vegetables served with the halibut amounted to just 8 or 9 slices of zucchini. The halibut especially was a very small portion (at $49.00) -- a huge and unfair profit margin for the restaurant with the customer being on the short end.....! Perhaps it was a "bad night" (very few customers in the dinning room where we ate (2 or 3 other tables). We're here visiting for a week, but have no plans to return to the Black Diamond Restaurant. ...... and yes, we are tourists, but have travelled often to Alaska including the Healy area. read more

The Alaskan shrimp pasta was amazing. Portions are great. Our group also got chicken gnocchi which he thoroughly enjoyed and the Alaskan burger that he said was really good and the fries were delicious, like potato wedges but better. Also got the Caesar salad, blue cheese salad wedge and the tomato bisque which we ended up saving and using with our garlic bread. So yum. read more

We were going to be a little late arriving and called ahead that afternoon to make sure the restaurant would be open. We were assured multiple times that they'd be open until 10. Not many choices in Healy, but this is one to skip. Pretty pretentious even for Alaska. The prices are fine, but the food is not good. Over-cooked pasta, poor quality ingredients and very boring dishes. The service is kind of good. The have a lot of water-refillers and bus people, but are very light on wait staff. In a pinch, not a bad place, just take a sustenance approach. If you have time, keep driving south and fine a much better restaurant. read more

Unfortunately, they were out of the halibut, so I was unable to order that. They were also out of the first wine I tried to order. So I split the crab cakes with my husband (as my entree). We are staying near Denali National Park for three days. First night's dinner we visited Black Diamond. It is very casual, with large windows for a pleasant atmosphere. The house wine was fine and reasonably priced at $7. We both ordered the gnocchi with grilled chicken, basil pesto cream, tomatoes and artichoke hearts. Delicious and a nice portion, with grilled bread included. For my included side, I chose the Caesar salad and my son got the tomato basil soup. We both very much enjoyed our food. read more

The waitress Sasha was very friendly and fun to chat with. We enjoyed our conversation with her. We tried to come back to try their different dishes but they were fully booked. Horrible service. when we first called to get a table we asked for a reservation and they told us they "don't take reservations but we better get there fast because there is reservations coming" so then we went in and asked for a table and they told us it was going to be 20 minutes then came out and told us it was going to be 45 to an hour thankfully they got us in within 20 minutes though. although we did wait very long just to get drinks not to mention the waitresses were very unprofessional and they were not rude but they were very much not polite. when they finally came to us acting like it was an inconvenience to take our food order we put in orders for food and it took at least 30 to 45 minutes to get the first plate out. The last plate came out about 15 minutes after that. The food is very overpriced for what it is... the food was flavorless besides the fries which were not specified as curly fries as they were "fries" on the menus. i will admit the portions were big but a little extreme for kids.. especially because we barley ate our flavorless food. when we first got there we were served water which is a nice touch until i realized my water had CHUNKS and stuff floating in it. I chose not to eat my food and just politely asked my waitress for a fruit cup which she said would be free considering i had one so i just asked for a refill which i figured wouldn't be a problem but then she charged it on the receipt which was a struggle to get considering the waitress ignored us the whole time. my sister was asked if she wanted a refill and she said yes and the waitress rolled her eyes at her. it's overall overpriced overhyped and horrible. don't go here. read more
