Rose's has been on my list for many many years. I happened to snag a reservation and we were also able to sit at the chefs table. First of all, service here is top notch. Plates cleared, drinks full, and anything else we could need was attended to promptly. The ambience is very chill yet upscale. You can wear jeans here or a nice dress. The food was incredible! The chef at P&P even brought us a special gnocchi and truffle dish which was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Some top dishes were the bread starter, Bloomin' green tomato, Raw "bbq" beef, tteokbokki pomodoro, and fried bread pudding. Ooo and that Strawberry Jam drink was delicious. Given the chance I'd certainly dine here again and highly recommend that you do.

Whoa! Dining at this Michelin‑starred restaurant felt like stepping into a world where precision, creativity, and hospitality are treated as an art form. From the moment I arrived, the staff struck the perfect balance between warmth and professionalism, guiding the experience without ever overshadowing it. We met so many new faces with each presentation of each masterpiece. Reservations are hard to come by, so when my bestie reserved weeks in advance the only table available was bar seating! So bar seating it was! (It actually was not bad!) Each course was a thoughtful composition, visually striking, technically flawless, and layered with flavors that unfolded gradually rather than shouting for attention. The chef's commitment to seasonality was unmistakable; ingredients tasted as though they'd been chosen at their absolute peak. One standout dish combined unexpected elements in a way that felt both daring and harmonious, a reminder of why Michelin recognition is earned, not given. We will get into that later! The pacing of the meal was impeccable, allowing time to savor each plate while maintaining a sense of anticipation. Speciality drinks were recommend and elevated the experience. The ambiance was understated yet elegant, creating a calm backdrop that let the food take center stage. Every detail, from the lighting to the atmosphere felt intentional. Overall, this restaurant delivers more than a meal; it offers a curated journey. It's the kind of dining experience that lingers in your memory long after the final course, and one that fully justifies its Michelin star. Furthermore, for those that think small portions cannot fill you, WRONG! I was so stuffed and didn't eat all the pastas. Price: PreFixe menu $128 a person An added fee for compensation for the employees. 3.75% With drinks (several) this bday meal was well over $400! Not cheap but sooooo worth it! Thanks to my bestie for the best meal this bday! Before we get into the dishes, let me just say this: Most women don't like a man who has too many female friends (ew) they want someone exclusive, someone not for everyone. But this restaurant? It is for everyone, and somehow still makes you feel like the experience was crafted just for you. That's its magic. Let's get into it! Rose's bread service pull‑apart milk bread with miso honey butter. YUMMERS The pork and lychee salad the one & only! A must‑order!!!!! Super charred cabbage with champagne sauce & parmesan. Delicious! Pasta en papillote aromatic, delicate, and beautifully executed. YUM! Miso‑glazed sea bass , a tribute to chefs nobu & robuchon a fusion of two iconic dishes from French chef Joël Robuchon and Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa bold, refined, and unforgettable. To die for!

What an experience! The staff was so friendly and you can tell they really enjoy working at this restaurant. Every dish was brought out by a very enthusiastic member of the staff and they all presented it with a background story. The food was truly very original in taste which was what I enjoyed the most. The lychee salad was nothing I ever had before, full of flavors, and a combination of textures/flavors that I never would've thought to put together (it was delicious nonetheless!). Also, one of my family members does eat pork so they brought out a lychee salad with impossible meat so he would not be be left out - I thought that was so thoughtful! The ambiance was very quaint. It felt very down home south/bed and breakfast vibes. The bread pudding was also amazing (forgot to get a pic bc we couldn't stop eating it!)

I've been to Rose's a few times when it first opened so when the menu was à la carte. Now there's a preset menu and LITERALLY everything was a hit! No notes. Service was excellent and the food was definitely a surprise and delight one thing after another. The restaurant didn't feel so loud that we couldn't hear each other at the table which was nice because we got to discuss the food with one another as it came out. Definitely enjoyed the surprise dishes sent out and we tried everything on the menu without feeling stuffed.

Words cannot describe how incredible this experience was. From the second we sat down to the very last bite, every moment was perfection. The food... oh my... such great creative combinations THAT WORK. The coconut sorbet with caviar absolutely floored me, it should not have worked nearly as well as it did. The pork and lychee salad was divine, easily the best salad I have ever had. Every single thing we ate was a home run, the menu is an absolute smash. Most importantly, the service was as good as service can get. No matter who our server was on a particular dish, every single person was so friendly and personable, having a conversation and really getting to know their diners (especially our main server Rob!). I cannot recommend this place enough, we will certainly be back when we return to DC. Highly recommend sitting at the chefs counter and watching the action!

I went to Rose's Luxury for my birthday and had an excellent time! One thing about roses is that you will never leave hungry. Rose's Luxury has a prix-fix 5 course menu that allows you to choose dishes either for the table or per person for each course. We started off with their bread service which was a truffle madeline which had a good balance between the umami of the truffle with the sweetness of the madeline dough. For our appetizers we got the pro and lychee salad and the asparagus with pineapple aioli. Both appetizers were excellent. The pork and lychee salad is one of Rose's Luxury's signature dishes for good reason. The pork pairs nicely with all the accompanying flavors like lychee, red onion, coconut milk and other garnishes. The asparagus with pineapple aioli was also really tasty. For pasta we got the colonne pompeii and the Tteokbokki with vodka sauce. These dishes had a sweeter profile. The Colonee Pompeii was made with Sweet Pea Cream with feta and mint. The feta helped balance out the sweetness of the cream based sauce and added a nice touch of saltiness. The Tteokbokki reminded me of the Korean version of the dish but elevated and was a nice addition to our meal. For our protein we ordered the fried pork which was a large pork cutlet that was battered, deep fried and topped with a honey mustard based sauce. I didn't eat too much of this at the restaurant because I was starting to get full but I enjoyed it when I had it for breakfast with a fried egg the next day. We also got the adult happy meal which is a wagyu cheeseburger and fries, topped with truffles and served over a cheese based sauce on a sizzling skillet. I loved the cheese sauce and our waitress was nice enough to pack up the leftovers to take home. For dessert we got the Tres Leches Cake which was made with coconut milk and added a nice twist to the classic recipe. Overall the service and food at Roses Luxury was great and I will definitely be back!

Such an amazing restaurant and experience! It's very cozy and lowkey inside, the staff is incredibly warm and inviting, and it feels very un-pretentious for Michelin restaurant. I recommend sitting at the bar and doing the Choose Your Own Adventure menu. It's a lot of food and really worth it for the price ($128 per person so a nice special occasion dinner but for sure a lot of food). I also loved doing the wine pairing! All we tried were awesome and really elevated the experience (it's an additional $75 I believe). Some of the food highlights were the Pork and Lychee Salad (incredible!!), the Tuna Tartare Avocado, Cacio e Pepe, Fried Chicken, and all of the desserts (Strawberry Mousse and Fried Bread Pudding). It's a really worth it experience for a nice dinner that feels warm and leaves you full and wanting to come back! Worth it for the money and a super cool experience.

Roses Luxury in Capitol Hill has been on my bucket list for months. I finally got to check it off for my birthday. The first word that comes to mind to describe the meal is: FUN. Styled as a "choose your own adventure", as a party of five we tried everything on the menu. Every time a dish came out, we pulled out our cameras to capture its whimsical yet ornate presentation. We began with cubes of soft Japanese milk bread with miso garlic butter. It breaks apart into wispy cloud-like strands In our first course, our favorite was the pork & lychee salad--tender umami pieces and bursts of juicy sweetness, cut by the sharpness of raw onion. The restaurant brought out complimentary plates of roasted cauliflower, as if they were a long time friend. Look, I LOVE cauliflower. My night was already made. Out of the pastas, Colonne Pompeii was the star of the show. Majestic spirals turned green by sweet pea and mint, flourished with feta and violet flowers. We couldn't resist the miso glazed cod on a bed of decadent potato puree inspired by Chefs Nobu and Robuchon. For dessert, get the mousse. Dig past a layer of sliced strawberries to reach soft, airy whipped cream. As it melts in your mouth, surprise fireworks will burst -- ah, pop rocks!

Writing this review a bit late...but this restaurant was my first Michelin experience and it definitely lives up to the hype. My cousin treated me out to this place for my birthday and the service was top notch! We got seated at the bar and they gave some extra dishes and desserts for my birthday! At the end of the meal, they even gave us a tote bag!! As for the food, everything was absolutely delicious. The lychee salad was something different but the sweet and savory definitely worked. My favorite dishes for this menu rotation was definitely the sweet pea pasta and the tuna tartare with avocado. Presentation of the meals and service was spot on. I can't wait to come back and take others to try out this place!

We had a lovely anniversary dinner at Rose's Luxury last night. Not only was the food luxurious, but so was the service! Even though it's a Michelin rated restaurant, it feels approachable and not stuffy at all. The menu is quirky and fun. I mean... they have an adult Happy Meal and "slightly ridiculously sized desserts." Love it. I really appreciated how much they accommodated our food preferences. They even wrote me a menu to show what was spicy and not. It was very helpful! They also started our dinner with a complimentary Prosecco. Now the food. Their truffled Madeline's were divine. Super crispy on the edges and soft in the middle. The truffles didn't overpower them at all. Wish I had 2 more! I didn't know what to expect with their lychee and pork salad. Honestly, it sounded weird to me - but we gave it a shot. The flavor of the sweet lychee with the salty pork, crunchy garlic and peanuts, and herbs all worked well together. I'm not sure I would order it again, but I'm glad I tried it! We enjoyed their whimsical tuna tartare that looks like an avocado. For pasta, we enjoyed their "the Bear" pasta but the Colonne Pompeii was a standout. The pea purée sauce was so creamy and the long spiral pasta was fun to eat. For entrees, we had to try their Nobu/Robuchon cod and the adult happy meal. The cod was a bit tough, but flavorful. The potatoes were insanely rich! Good for a bite or 2, but I don't think I could eat more than that. The burger was delicious! The Waygu was smashed nicely with melty American cheese. But, there was a topping that was a bit too sweet for us on top. The fries were crispy and salty - like fast food fries. For dessert - we didn't love the sticky toffee pudding. It was dense and the spicy sauce on the side was strange to us. But, overall it was a really interesting New American meal!!

Have been dying to try Roses for probably the last decade and finally got to try it, but felt super let down by the food. It is honestly way too expensive for what it is and semi laughable that they have a Michelin star. We recently ate at Albi and in no world is this restaurant on the same level as that. This was $380 after tax and tip for two with a drink each and at most should be at the $250 price point. Service was excellent so no negatives on that. The food is fine, but lacks any oomph to take it over the hump to be great. Bread and butter; warm, but just in general fine. Tuna tartare in an avocado; what the heck, tuna fine I guess, but guac/avocado literally tastes like Sodexo out of a bag. The star pork and lychee salad; fine, but honestly tastes like any starter appetizer salad you could get at a half decent Thai restaurant. Pastas; fine. Roasted cauliflower; forgettable and nothing special. Miso cod; well cooked, but again nothing new or pushing boundaries. Yeah maybe I just don't get the appeal of this restaurant or its best days are behind it. I'd be less critical if it didn't have a Michelin star, but to rank it equivalent to Albi and Nakazawa is a crime. I don't recommend coming.

(Insert the hook from Heavy D & The Boys' 1991 hit: Is It Good to You...Indeed, I LIKE IT) You know, I was very skeptical of RL. I'm mean let's face it, how many times have us transplants been fooled by talk of how good the food is in DC?? Too many times have I lowered my expectations, only to realize that lowering them still didn't compensate for bad food. So, suffice it to say, I didn't expect much from Rose's. I would have just been happy that the food was cooked properly, with the expectation of bland food. Well, unlike many restaurants I've been to in the area, Rose's has gotten it right: 1. Quality food: everything tasted fresh, as if picked and slaughtered in the back yard. I wasn't surprised at this, many similar restaurants boast farm to table, seasonal ingredients. 2. Comfort food: HAVE MERCY ON ME!!! Yassssssss. Comfort me any day honey! Cornbread, ribs, catfish, chicken fried oysters (if you could see me right now, I'm raising my hand), yes please!! I love everything about food that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. 3. Salt, in moderation, ain't never hurt no body: can I get an Amen to well seasoned food!! My goodness! What does it cost to season my food?? Apparently $$$, because Rose's can get pricey. Notable dishes: - Chicken fried oysters; don't think about it, just order a bunch! - Grilled pork blade steak. I didn't think it was gonna be good, but I am woman enough to admit I can be wrong sometimes. Order two!! - Pork sausage, habanero and lychee salad. There was a party in my mouth and my brain didn't get an invitation. I couldn't conceptualize it. I still may be in denial. Smh - Mezze Rigatoni "sausage and peppers." Quite honestly, this was the best pasta dish I've had in so long, I can't remember what was my favorite before. Everything else pales in comparison. Minus 1 star for the dish that could have been so much better with less fatty portions (brisket). Minus 1 for me for allowing my partner in crime to order the Korean Catfish. I knew it wasn't gonna be good, but I was blinded by my endorphins after eating too much good food. Smh. What you can expect: (since I've used numbers and bullets, I guess I'll start with alphabets) A. Awesome service. We sat at the bar and had great service...at the bar. B. A long wait. Which, our wait wasn't too long since we opted to sit at the bar (45m opposed to 3.5 hrs waiting for a table). C. A relaxed atmosphere. Come in a suit after work, a spring time dress, or flip flops. I don't think you'll be judged...by anyone besides me. Jk jk D. Wear your stretchy pants. I wore a dress and heels, because I knew my pants wouldn't fit after I ate. E. Horrible parking situation, but it could be worse. I got a ticket that has recently turned into $60. So let's see, 60...150 something...all the sides of awesome and winning will not comp me for that ticket (rolls eyes). So yea, should you make this a date night?? Absolutely! Double date of you like. Girls night? Absolutely! Mother's Day meal? Well, mom may not appreciate how great this place is, stick to your foodie friends or drag out your significant other...have them pay. Your welcome. read more
Do you remember what it was like when you were a kid and you would go to a huge candy store? You would see a bunch of items and you wanted everything, but you were just happy to get your tiny paws on anything that your parents bought for you? Well, my dining companion said I had that look on my face last night while I happily ventured with abandon through the Rose's Luxury menu. And there is very little reason for me to doubt her. Quite simply, this was the best meal I've had in Washington DC during this calendar year. Honestly, I thought DC's culinary scene, while growing, had become stagnant from a purely inventive perspective. Sure, I appreciate places like the Source and Rogue 24 where a virtual potpourri of rare ingredients are presented whimsically or in a manner that challenges the mind. But what my heart truly desired was evolutionary cuisine - could a restaurant in DC take existing culinary concepts and mesh them in a thoroughly unpredictable manner? Perhaps the best representation of that concept I had found previous to Rose's Luxury was at Seasonal Pantry, and it should come as no shock that both places are loaded with five star reviews. Attempting to explain why this place is incredible is an exercise in futility. To describe the strawberry pasta as bold and novel marginalizes the experience. To attempt to capture how the sweeter flavors from the blended strawberry mesh well with the spicier tones in the underlying sauce woefully underplays the nuances of the dish. The complexity of the dish is indescribable. Is the visual display anything noteworthy? Absolutely not. Will it play mind games with your brain while your taste buds are in heaven? Yes. Other dishes have the exact same "pattern". Sweet raw oysters are served with prevalent ginger and rum notes - a dish that is sure to be a hit with the many women I know who love dark and stormy cocktails. A coconut foam melts into a sea of Thai spices in a wonderfully crafted spicy vegetarian sausage and lychee dish. A popcorn bisque intermingles with sweet lobster. Cinnamon toast ice cream accompanies a star anise studded foie gras. Are you finding these type of concoctions in other DC's restaurants? Other than the aforementioned culinary gem that is Seasonal Pantry, I didn't think so.* While I am generally reluctant to admit that I have a huge crush on food (see, I won't even use that damn term), this is the food paradise that simply did not exist in every day restaurant form here in DC. Don't be surprised if some people start ranking Rose's Luxury as their favorite restaurant. This is the high end experience that Barrack's Row was lacking. * for those of you who need visual stimulation, order the birthday cake read more

I went a few years ago very unique and cutesy. They were always popular. I will be back soon.

I came here on Saturday night around 8:15pm. By the time I arrived the restaurant was fully booked for the night, but the bar area had seating. Of course it is first come first serve so I put my name on the waiting list. My friend and I got seated finally at 9:50pm. We sat at the bar where they offer a full menu. We ordered the following: * Rock shrimp ceviche with crispy plantains - $13 - probably my favorite dish of them all. It was bursting with summery flavors and that's what I needed for this chilly evening we showed up. I don't like being reminded that winter is nearing. * 1/2 ounce of white sturgeon caviar - $47 - interesting considering I've never had caviar before. I have nothing to compare it to and couldn't tell you bad from good caviar. What I can say is that I did enjoy it and can't completely understand why people consider this a delacacy, but then I did just tell you I've never had it before and clearly not educated on this dish. My dining companion managed to fill me on quite a bit of details which helped me have a better understanding about it and its history. We ate it with mother-of-pearl spoons served with crème fraîche and what I imagine were Lay's potato chips. * Grilled hanger steak with Japanese mustard and eel sauce with scallions - $14 - this was perfectly cooked and delicious despite me not liking mustard anything. Portion was sad though. I was truly hoping for a little bit more than what was offered on the plate. I know... I know. It was a 'tasting' but still stingy. * Hawaiian braised pork shoulder, mac salad and coconut slaw (family meal) - $28 - this was a hit and miss. I loved the pork shoulder. It was well prepped and tasty. The mac salad wasn't something I would want to experience again. The slaw was decent. I found it a bit complex for what it was, however, nonetheless tasted good. Drinks were good. They never seem to go wrong when it comes to alcohol. Service was decent. They checked in when needed and took care of us. I'm knocking off a star from my original review since I kind of feel my second through forth visits have been lacking since the first visit. I don't feel the newness of this place has worn off despite being around for nearly 2 years, but something just isn't there that existed the first time around. Alas, I will still come here when there is a time to splurge and to experience the greatness that Rose's provides to its customers. read more

There's something about going to these massively popular restaurants that always leaves me feeling somewhat dissapointed afterwards. Enough with the hype people. It ain't THAT great. Let's start with probably the most controversial thing about this restaurant: the excruciatingly long wait times. I get it, you feel like you want it more because it's SO in demand and they act like they don't need it....so you want it more. Lots of hooplah surrounding this. We came during a cold, February Saturday evening and when deciding what time to arrive, I tried to scour the reviews to see if coming in winter vs summer changed wait times. I figured, SURELY in 30 degree weather, it will be less of a scene. So our uber dropped us off at 4:45 and what we saw was already a line, probably 65 deep already. Are you serious? Arrive at 3pm if you want a table right away, you say? Not only am I NOT willing to do that, I don't WANT to eat at 5:15pm. Get a life. So we wait in line until around 6. When we get up there, they take our number and say we'll probably have a table around 9-10. I knew immediately they were over-exaggerating to get us to bail. Old trick of the trade from my waitress days. So we accept and walk over to Barrel to wait. At 6:15pm, Barrell is packed to the gils! Annoying. We stay there a couple hours. Around 8:30 we move closer to Rose's and at 8:45 we get a text that our table is ready. Just as I suspected. We were seated at approx 9pm. Let me tell you something: I don't give a shit how allegedly mind blowing this food is, life is too short to wait 5 hours for f-ing dinner. We're already irritated and frankly, pretty drunk from DRINKING while waiting for the last 3 hours. We're seated at the chef's table. That we liked and was actually pretty cool. Our server had that overly-familiar nature wherein she curses to try to be relatable and down to earth. Not working, honey. I ask if they have a dry rose. They do not. We order a couple of the cocktails. They're pretty good, not amazing. One thing I will say we loved about Rose is the lively, casual ambiance in a somewhat upscale restaurant; two factors that are hard to come by. We love nice food but don't love a stuffy ambiance and that casual, entertaining vibe is something they perfect here. We decide on a few small plates: oysters, the sausage/habenero/lychee salad that everyone raves about, confit goat, and the mezze rigatoni dish. Actually, we were going to order winter citrus salad with fennel but at the waitress's suggestion we went with the oysters. I asked if they were better than the winter citrus salad, to which she said, "fuck yeah". Enough already. Oysters were overrated. Tasted like fishy-sushi with a slice of green apple. And I love oysters, but it needed a little spicy remoulade or something. Too acidic, not enough savory. The chef ended up sending over a sample of the winter citrus salad and it was okay, as well. Now, the sausage/habanero/lychee salad was, in fact, mind-blowing. Actually, it was the best thing we ate here our entire meal. Incredibly complex; savory, sweet, and spicy! Perfection. Confit goat was fine, a little bland. The rigatoni was good, had some heat to it, but nothing I couldn't make myself at home. Nice freshly shaved pecorino, I will say that. But aside from the sausage-lychee dish, still waiting to be wowed at this point! We decided to order the family style brisket sandwiches. These were pretty great. That horseradish spread was amazing and the slaw was different and structured so well. I will say the brisket was a little too fatty and marbled but still had great flavor. These were a very close second to being the best thing we tasted here. We passed on dessert because we were thoroughly stuffed. Their cocktail game is okay. Their small plates are a hit or miss. And the best family style option is definitley the brisket. I could do without the overly familiar service but I can see how a lot of Washingtonian cerebral-types really get off on this. They like feeling like they're part of some "cool crowd", where the waitstaff curses and you think you're somehow exclusively selected to eat at this highly-coveted restaurant. As I looked around, a lot of those types there. Dare I say dorks? I do. Ultimately, we will NEVER return to Rose's again. I can think of probably 25 amazing dinners I have eaten in DC that I can get a table at immediately. Why would I EVER put myself through this again? You're not that cool, Rose. You're just not. And after reading many of these reviews, it sounds like there are two schools of thought after leaving this place: the dorky, cerebral types who quote Bon Appetit magazine about Rose being the best restaurant in DC and believe it is the coolest place on earth. OR everyone else who's pissed at waiting 5-6 hours for a quasi-decent dinner and wants to punch the person who established the 'no reservations' system in the face. We are the latter. read more
Holy shit. My life will never be the same. This was one of the best experiences of my life. Rose's Luxury is like a rite of passage for foodies in DC. I had always walked by and thought to myself, "these people are crazy for standing in line." Then I did that and it was worth the experience. The staff was really nice and thoughtful. We received a few dishes "on the house" because we weren't seated until about 10:30 p.m. We ordered the chicken-fried oysters with raw oyster tzatziki, grilled avocado with tomatillo, poblano, and cotija cheese, the grilled pork blade steak with miso, cabbage and homemade sauerkraut, fresh fettuccini with pea shoots, tarragon and spring onions, and the uni scrambled eggs, crispy potatoes and uni holandaise. OH. MY. GOD. It was all delicious and I will covet this as one of the best culinary experiences of all time. read more
I'm slightly late in the Rose's Luxury game, but I am so glad I was able to finally check this place out :D Owned by Chef Aaron Silverman (who has worked at Momofuku Noodle Bar and McCrady's), Rose's Luxury serves up Southern comfort food with a twist in a cute space with exposed brick walls, adorable retro chandeliers, and a small cabinet with antique teacups. Adrienne M. and I came here to grab some dinner - we waited for about 30 minutes or so (as we were on 2 different waiting lists (one for a table, and one at the bar); just a note - they don't take reservations, so it's a first-come, first-serve basis). I loved how there were seats where you can wait comfortably, and you're more than welcome to order drinks up at the bar as well. We got a couple of seats at the bar, and I'm so glad that we did - this wasn't your typical claustrophobic/sticky/uncomfortable bar seating, but permanent-set swivel stools, a hook underneath the counter for your bag/purse, large spacious onyx marble counter (great to lay out multiple dishes), and, of course, lovely & attentive bartenders that totally dote on you! We had a complimentary freshly-baked mini potato loaf with a side of whipped butter (sprinkled with chives and fried potato skin crumbs) - this had a nice crusty and crispy exterior that was soft in the inside - great for also dipping into sauces - so delicious! The menu (which changes often) was short and sweet, with small dishes and family-style platters - we tried the Chicken-Fried Oysters with Raw Oyster Tzatziki (these oysters were small, but boy, were they delicious; the batter on them was nice and crispy, and they were set on a nice generous dollop of tzatziki sauce in their shell - yum!); Smoked Trout Mousse with Apples & Chervil (one of my favorites - slightly salty and creamy - MMM); Pork Sausage, Habanero & Lychee Salad (the 'famous' salad - you mix it all up; I really liked the chunks of the salty pork sausage in here; I didn't really taste the habanero, and the halved lychees were an interested complement); Grilled Pork Blade Steak, Miso, Cabbage & Homemade Sauerkraut (another favorite, the pork was cooked perfectly; juicy and flavorful from the miso, with the awesome touch of the homemade sauerkraut and cabbage!); Mezze Rigatoni "Sausage & Peppers" (another favorite! The pasta was cooked perfectly al-dente, and the slices/flavor of the sausages were surprisingly not overwhelming; the tomato sauce was more on the sweeter end, but still really tasty (definitely use that sauce with the complimentary loaf of bread they give you at the beginning!)); Ricotta Stuffed Gnocchi with Crispy Sunchokes, Mushroom Butter & Dill (I wasn't really a fan of this, as this was really sweet; the gnocchi seemed more like dumplings; I did like the creaminess of the ricotto filling, though); Fried Italian Eggplant with Shaved Feta, Anchovy & Wildflower Honey (least favorite dish of the night - this, while nice and well-battered and crunchy, was just overly sweet; the eggplant being sweet itself, the added wildflower honey just made it quite overwhelming); Korean Fried Catfish with Rice & Other Goodies (the catfish meat was battered and fried really well - but, this also was another least favorite, as the overly sweet red pepper paste just did not go well and was not a good flavor; there was some beansprouts on the side with cilantro (wasn't a fan of that, either), and some pickled daikon radishes (which were refreshing); and, the Smoked Brisket, White Bread, Horseradish & Slaw (one of my favorites - the smoked brisket, while more on the fatty side, was quite delicious - juicy and meaty, and great with the toast and the lovely creamy horseradish sauce and the pickled slaw - yum!). For dessert, we tried the 'Eggplant Tarte Tatin' (I thought it was too sweet, with the caramel drizzle; definitely on the decadent side) and the 'English Pea Cake, Mint Curd, Pistachios & Buttermilk' (I loved this, as it was so different! It was fresh, garden-y, mint-y, and I definitely enjoyed the moist English pea cake chunks in there!). I also tried one of their cocktails, a gin-based 'Gin, Grapefruit, Cappelletti, and Thai Basil' (with a little more of the grapefruit) - this was nice and smooth! The bartender, Mike, was just oh-so-awesome, and he checked up on us regularly and made sure that everything was perfect; I also loved Cesar, who brought out some of our foods - he had a great sense of humor and was such a sweetheart! I would love to come back to try out their 'Luxury Private Roof Garden' (only one seating a night, you have your own personal server and it's priced per person; it requires a deposit). On a side note, RL also donates a portion of their proceeds to WFP-USA; you can check their website for the total amount donated so far, so I thought it was pretty cool. +potato loaf +Chicken-Fried Oysters +Smoked Trout Mousse +Grilled Pork Blade Steak +Mezze Rigatoni +Brisket +English pea cake +ask for Mike and Cesar :D read more
First Michelin star restaurant experience! We are from Texas and they do not review restaurants here. Everyone recommended Rose's, but mentioned the crazy lines. Well, guess we got lucky! We walked right in, and we were seated immediately. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. We started with the tequila, ginger, grapefruit, and jalapeño cocktail. It was so amazing we had 5... yummy! We then tried the caviar and coconut appetizer. So amazing! So amazing! I truly loved this little delightful dish. Next our sever recommend several dishes, a spicy peanut salad, truffle gnocchi, and a few other dishes. They were all perfection. The dishes here are so unique and inspiring. Truly, some of the flavor profiles would be unique for even the most seasoned foodie. The only reason I give this place 4 stars is the brisket. Being from Texas, not sure it was the best idea to order brisket in D.C. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting the D.C area. read more
Oh my goodness I just can't. The glory of this restaurant. It's been a week and I'm still at a loss for words - truly, Rose's is an experience for both the stomach and the soul. A friend and I came about 50 minutes before opening on a Monday night, and we were pretty close to the front of the line. I will warn you that the last 10 minutes of the wait is pure agony, but once you walk in the restaurant...ahhh, all is well with the world. The decor and ambiance are really something; Rose's is definitely one of the most photogenic restaurants I have ever been in, and they totally don't judge if you go in and geek out with your huge dslr (not that I did...). We're talking lights strung across the whole expanse of the ceiling, comfortably dim lighting + hip wooden furnishings that make the experience both casual and intimate, and an overall warmth that just can't be encompassed in words. If you can, I would highly recommending snagging seats at the kitchen bar! I mean seriously, it includes front row seating/prime paparazzi positioning of Aaron Silverman + a respectably diverse kitchen crew at werk. Challah bread + sesame/honey butter - man, their complimentary bread game is dang strong here. Popcorn soup with grilled lobster - Smooth, salty soup + chunky, not-so-salty lobster + miraculously not soggy popcorn = perfect balance of texture and flavor. Pork sausage, habanero, & lychee salad - The hype is real and the 15 different ingredients also very real. Pork is on the salty side, but no matter because your mouth is too busy juggling the flavor explosion to really notice anyways. Whole grilled quail - Possibly the best dish of the night. The moderately tender consistency of the meat + subtly sweet/tangy mulled cider glaze (SO. GOOD.) = winner. Capricci Amatriciana - I'm not a big pasta person, but w o w this housemade pasta was soft, was smoky with a kick of spice, was covered with shredded sheep milk cheese, was yummies. Desserts are also quite unique - the minty/milky English pea cake and the chocolate mousse w/coconut milk ice cream + shredded lime just continue to showcase the impeccable attention to detail and flavor juxtaposing at Rose's. Elizabeth was a fabulous server - pleasant, personable, and so, so accommodating! She was super helpful with recommendations and dish explanations, and we could tell she genuinely wanted to make sure we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. I would say to just wait until you can wait in not-freezing-ice-cold weather...but who am I kidding?? Rose's, I would battle every lash of those stinging winter winds all over again and more to come back for you, baby. read more
It's a rare occasion when the DC food scene births something that becomes the envy of the rest of the world. Sorry Brooklyn, I guess we're the cool kids now. Rose's Luxury deftly combines a multi-cultural and progressive menu, a whimsical ambiance, and genuinely friendly service into a concept that has set a new bar for American restaurants. The interior makes me feel like I've suddenly been shrunken and plopped into a doll house. The flatware and dishware must have been pillaged from a trendy grandmother. The scattered houseplants exhibit varying degrees of health. I guess the owners are mere humans after all, and humans can't be good at everything. The [now famous] pork and lychee salad is a must try. Although it teeters on the salty side, the sweet, spicy, and sour components work together to create an "a-ha!" moment not seen since Simon Cowell hobbled together the members of One Direction. The goat and rice dish tasted eerily like congee and pork floss to me (which I didn't dislike). The grilled veal was perfectly cooked, charred on the outside and juicy on the inside. The Korean catfish was flavorful and came on the platter that they give to Wimbledon finalists. Of course, most of this is irrelevant because the menu changes so often that many of these dishes will probably no longer be available. My only gripe is a cocktail I ordered [that I don't even think is on the menu anymore]. One of the ingredients was wasabi, which I thought would be interesting, but the end product was a radioactive green drink that tasted a little bit like stomach acid and got progressively worse as it got closer to room temperature. I think the price of being creative is that once in a while you have to consume stomach acid. But at the end of the day, it's worth it. read more

The food is absolutely excuisite! I could go on and on. Read other reviews for details about which dishes are great and just how great they are. This place would get a 5 except I think the restaurant should offer on line or call in reservation options. Queing early and waiting to get added to the seating list is something that one might expect to do at a trendy nightclub not at a dining establishment of this caliber. Yes... ques generate buzz but I find it stressful and unnecessarily pretentious. For clients with disabilities (like my father) and those who cannot come early and wait for an hour or longer........ this place is not very welcoming. read more
Am I a hater?! I'm seriously questioning my experience at Rose's because after reading the reviews, I thought for sure I was going to die at Rose's and just hide in the back of the kitchen gorging on everything in sight and reaching next level food euphoria....then promptly being taken to jail city. I did my research I knew that Rose's had made it on the "50 Best Restaurant's in the US" list, I had to get my butt in the door....on a whim... I came here on a Friday night right around 9PM, and thought for sure there was no way I was going to be able to eat at Rose's. I had heard from everyone and their dog, that you must get in line when doors open or you won't have a fighting chance at getting to eat. So of course when the hostess said we can seat you right away at the bar, I thought what did I do to deserve such a wonderful fate?!?!!??!!? Seriously, I had to pinch myself in disbelief, then remember to rub it in all my friend's faces that I didn't have to wait and they did..haha kidding. So I glided up the stairs, to find my seat at the bar, with the most lovely bartender ever. She was honestly like the Pioneer Woman of bartenders, not based on looks but on the fact that she had this gracious and homey feel about her demeanor. But sadly, the drinks we ordered were just okay, It takes a lot for me to hold the caboose and tell the whole world about drinks (go to coco sala for my fave cocktails in dc). Onto the meal we ordered a hodge podge of items: +Free bread (with bacon sour cream) is it wrong that I didn't enjoy this bread but I enjoyed the butter/sour cream mixture! +Sake Marinated Oyster +Charred Carrots +Crispy Pig's Ear Salad +Pork Sausage Salad +Hand-cut Chitarra cacio e pepe (I can report that all of these dishes were inventive and presentation gorgeous, but really nothing stood out to me as being the food that rocked my world, I believe the hype killed my experience, after each dish came out I was thinking it would get better) Desserts: +Key Lime Pie with Marshmellow fluff ( A twist on the modern key lime) +Coca-Cola Tiramisu (Wow!!! I loved this, please try this) +Cinnamon Toast Crunch (Yes, 10-year old Ching thanks you) (The desserts truly redeemed the evening for me!) Service was phenom! & overall glad I tried it at least once. read more
I'll preface this review by stating that I came in with a lot of hype surrounding Rose's, and so my opinion might not be the most popular or most glowing one out there. A group of 7 of us planned to head out to Rose's for a celebratory Monday night dinner. One in our party was willing enough to get in line at 4PM to put our names down when they opened. We ended up getting seated around 730PM and were able to sit in the upstairs section by the window. The decor is sort of a shabby chic meets SoHo farmhouse - nothing crazy, but a generally interesting and comfortable place to be. The lighting is a tad dim in the evening, and though there are candelas on the tables, I would prefer a bit more light to better see the food. Staff is extremely friendly and actually provide good banter - this is one of the great strengths of this place. They're very helpful to explain the dishes and are very accommodating if there are certain food allergies or aversions. Do take note that the menu here is relatively short and succinct, so there may not be as wide of a selection for pickier eaters. There are generally about 10-15 smaller plates (think tapas size) and several larger "family" options. We ended up just getting just about all the small plates available for our group, and it came out to be a good portion. 1. Rock shrimp ceviche - has an Asian-y twist to it with cilantro, peanuts, tomato, and a lime-y dressing 2. Summer veg panzanella salad - a variety of small slices of vegetables and bread throughout 3. Grilled avocado - has an interesting blend of tomatillo and poblano with cotija blanketing it on top 4. Pork Sausage bowl - has lychee, habanero, peanuts, coconut creme, crispy garlic, etc. for a total of 15 ingredients in one bowl ... their most popular dish 5. Hangar steak - this has an Asian flavor with eel sauce and scallion garnishes 6. Crispy softshell crab - this was probably the most visually interesting plating of the night 7. Spaghetti with strawberry sauce - a sweet sauce with a kick, very interesting 8. Pesto creste-style pasta - probably my pick of the pastas 9. Bucatini with sungold tomato sauce - a bit tart, straightforward pasta ... a couple more I can't exactly remember We also got a couple of the desserts - the eggplant tarte tatin being the standout for its uniqueness yet familiarity. Almost seemed like a normal fruit tarte tatin. There isn't a fault in any of the dishes at all in the way they are executed. Everything was prepared and cooked very well, and they all tasted great. However, there wasn't anything that was mind-blowing or exceptional that lingered with me. There wasn't any one dish that I just craved and wanted more of, and maybe that's just the difference in my personal approach to food. Rose's calls itself a neighborhood restaurant, but in my opinion, it's fancified straightforward dishes in small plate sizing. The wait times/policy, portion sizing, pricing, and a semi-upscale take on food doesn't quite translate to being an approachable neighborhood establishment for the community to me. It's not necessarily what Rose's is doing wrong, but maybe it's something they're not doing to speak to the "neighborhood-ness" they want to embody. In the end, definitely go and try Rose's if you get a chance - you will have an enjoyable meal. But don't go solely for the food - go for the experience, because that's what Rose's really should and will excel at. read more

Being that I'm visiting from NYC, this spot was number 1 on my list as a must try. I will say the service was phenomenal and I felt so welcome. The food was great but the one complaint I'd make is... the Korean fried chicken. Again, I love this place but just some advise to the kitchen staff, please understand that KFC isn't KFC because of the sauce. That's essentially a different aspect of KFC called 양념치킨 (Yang-nyum), but KFC's essence is in the batter. I've made my fair share of Korean fried chicken and the one at Roses reminded me of my worst batch when I first tried to make my own about 9 years ago. I'd advise the staff to remove the chicken from the menu and just try ignoring the sauce from other Korean fried chicken spots but really focus on the batter. The main ingredient should be potato starch, and technique is always double frying. That's what makes Korean fried chicken, Korean fried chicken. Again, I'd highly recommend this place but don't get the korean fried chicken. read more
Wow just wow! Very rarely do I leave a restaurant COMPLETELY SPEECHLESS...in a good way! If you wait for a table, the hostess will text you when a table is ready but it's a good opportunity to grab a cocktail either by their bar or neighboring bar on 8th St. I recommend sitting at the kitchen counter if you get the opportunity so that you can witness great teamwork and marvel at the dishes that they are producing. The seating area in the front is homey and the seating area in the back of the restaurant feels as if you are sitting outside on the patio under the stars. Upon sitting down, we were immediately and warmly greeted. Port City Brew for the boy and a wonderful Bordeaux blend wine for me. Another server warmly greeted us and presented us with warm and fluffy bread accompanied by light and creamy butter topped with fried potato skins and chives, yum! Suggest ordering 2-3 plates per person. To start we had the pork sausage habanero and lychee salad. We were instructed to mix it up and the "messier it looks, the better it tastes" Wow. Dish is crispy and chewy, sweet and salty, just delicious and a wonderful starter! Next up came the Vietnamese pate topped with crushed peanuts to spread on grilled bread side of cilantro and vietnamese slaw to top it off. Combination was so decadent, so delectable and very refreshing given the heavy dishes we chose to order. Then came the special off the menu item...Langoustines on a bed of St. Carolina cream and buttered rice. Langoustines were grilled to perfection and so delicious I could have eaten the whole thing shell and all and the bed of rise was so fluffy it was like eating a cloud from heaven's sky. Then came the honey fried chicken perfectly cooked so tender and juicy with the right amount of breading covered with sesame type seeds and the perfect compliment of honey sauce and hot sauce if you so dare Next came a marscapone cheese and honey dish that was also off the menu. Like any italian girl, I am a SUCKER for marscapone cheese. Then for dessert, came the fried donuts with apple cider, cheddar cheese and vanilla ice cream. Yes, we too were intrigued by what seemed like a hell of an unlikely combination but let me tell you, the creativity pays off and guaranteed to confuse the hell out of your tastebuds in a good way. Service was SUPERB! Servers all working together and with the kitchen running food, tending tables, making recommendations, answering questions and checking on patrons. They were personable and informative and willing to go the extra mile. At one point during my meal, a server accidently knocked my glass of red wine all over the table and on me. Funny enough, my skirt was red and In SECONDS, a rush of staff came to my aid patting me dry, replacing my glass and checking on me and even offered to pay for dry cleaning. I sat there completely unfazed as I found myself in a food daze and took not a break to stop eating because the food was THAT AMAZING. It's been a while since I've had such an incredible meal and dining experience and the food at Rose's Luxury is sure to bring you delight, make you question your food- a complete game changer! I cannot wait to return! read more
I have found that truly fantastic restaurants require a significant amount of time between the experience and the actual posting of a review. Why? Because you are so verklempt (adj., unable to speak because of emotion) by what just happened to your senses that you really need to sit back and ask yourself - "WOW. Was this real?!" The answer for Rose's Luxury is YES. The ambiance is FO' REAL (private upstairs patio, open air seating with romantic lighting, chef's table, fluorescent "awesome" sign). The service FO' REAL (people who love their job and want to chat! Plus the servers ... if they are called that? ... all have the most eloquent and descriptive vocabularies). And oh yeah, the food...THE REALEST. Long story short - my friend and I dined at Roses's for 5 hours, and ordered every single item on the menu. It was excessive, it was gluttonous, and it cost me a pretty penny, but do I regret it? NOPE. That is why, nearly 5 months later, I am posting this review. I want you, dear Yelp reader, to understand that this wasn't just a dinner. It was a life changing experience. Find an occasion (or an excuse?) to come here and indulge. I promise you, it is worth it. read more

Worth. The. Wait. So my bf and I totally thought they opened at 4 on Saturday and we arrived exactly at 4, expecting a line, only to find about 10 people waiting. Well jokes on us bc they opened at 5 and we were an hour early. In the end, it was worth waiting for an hour bc we were seated right away and by the time it was five, the line had extended down the street. The staff was friendly and efficient in trying to make sure everything was perfect. My bf has a severe nut and sesame allergy and although they had quite a few dishes with nuts in them, they tried their best to accommodate him. We ended up ordering the happy oysters, lychee salad, smashed potatoes, the tomato vodka sauce rigatoni dish, another hand cut pasta dish with rock shrimp and corn, and the special of the night, truffle gnocchi. Everything was fantastic and our favorites were the pastas and gnocchi dish. They were so delectable and full of rich flavors. The lychee salad is so unique and very beautiful to look at. It was refreshing as well. We shared the popcorn creme brûlée, which was good but basically just popcorn on creme brûlée. I got the gin cocktail, which had cilantro and grapefruit in it. It was so good! I am still dreaming about that cocktail. My bf got a red wine and the Vietnamese iced coffee. The coffee was not authentic at all! It tasted like coffee milk. Although he wasn't able to try a lot on the menu, we are definitely planning on returning. Everything was perfect and this establishment is worth that Michelin Star! read more

This place is the tits! There is 100% good cause for why this restaurant consistently makes the top of DC's dining list. Answer: because the restaurant treats you in a superb manner from the moment you walk in, through the plating and coffee. They are a fine dining establishment, so I would not recommend going in with muddy shoes, ripped clothes, and without a bath first. Definitely definitely want a reservation for this place, the place is small with limited seating, and its good name makes it a popular choice. The menu changes periodically, and what I had then is not what you may eat today. Points to Rose's Luxury for keeping it classy and fresh in this way. The ambiance is super cute, and the kitchen is situated in a manner for diners viewing pleasure. Its an easy enough walk from the Eastern Market metro. This is a menu where all of the food is listed on only one page, and the special does not have a price tag on it. So be warned, this place is a place to impress, but a place to pay steeply for it especially as we came to find out if you're not paying attention to the price points. I was here on an anniversary dinner, and feeling impetuous my date and I decided to order "the special" on the server's recommendation. We also ordered off the cocktail menu. My cocktail was bourbon based served in a classic old fashioned glass, and my date had something a little more pink in a martini glass. Our meal took the better part of an hour to cook up, but with a clean viewing line to the kitchen it was easy to see why. The chefs take their time in the prepping on this dish. The meat is cooked made to order, and came out just the way such high quality meat should, browned around the edges, but nice and pink on the inside. Juicy and soft to chew. Seasoning is exquisite. The veggies also were produced with the highest attention to detail and care, charred perfectly. The plate presentation and quality certainly gets a 10/10 in my book. During the course of the prep work for our meal, we had various servers come and offer us "tapas" of various things both off and on the menu. Whether this was for public comment or because we ordered the special, I was never made aware. But these tapas were playful attempts at food - such as an asparagus soup, or some kind of mint jelly. Pretty much everything they do here is delectable. The playfulness of their food presentation and unconventional flavor profiles had me intrigued. After about 45 minutes, the meat had finally cooked through. The plate was served hot -everything was hot and perfectly timed, and plating was beautiful and thoughtful. We devoured the feast before us, and still there was about a days worth of leftovers! Truly an exquisite meal, certainly the best I've had all year or more! Then the slight heart attack - the bill. When a dish does not have a price point, be sure you can afford it. Our meal with cocktails and this special was somewhere in the $250 price point rage. Was it worth it? Totally! Would I ever order anything again on the server's recommendation (especially "the special") *without* first asking price point? No! TLDR; take your date here if you want to impress. It'll work. And if you want a high quality dining experience because you're a "foodie" or want to know the best of DC. But make sure its after payday Friday before you go. I would happily come back here again to celebrate another birthday/retirement/anniversary/celebration, or even just because. read more
5 Stars for excellent staff and customer service. 3 for food. Not only just "okay," but the portions are ridiculously small. You'll need at least $170- 200 for a table for two (enough plates and one bottle of wine for two small Asian chicks). Maybe it's just hard for me to compare DC venues (that I have to wait in line for)to all of the authentic, hole-in-the-wall food options that exist in the world. We couldn't find the cake in the pea cake dessert... They were nice to bring ice cream with sprinkles and a candle for my friend's birthday. read more

Happy, happy, joy, joy. I adore everything about Rose's Luxury - the creativity behind each dish, the unpretentious, eclectic atmosphere, the open kitchen where you can observe the chef and staff in action, and the reasonable prices. The dishes here are not only delicious...But they are exciting! and will make you feel like you are on a culinary adventure. Get a taste of Japan with the uni (sea urchin) with scrambled eggs and hollandaise sauce. Take a trip to Italy with one of the delicious pasta dishes. Or simply just escape to the beach with the Kumamoto or Chicken Fried Oysters. I usually don't like restaurants with small-plate menus but Rose's Luxury somehow makes me question my aversion to small plates. Here, small-plates are an advantage as you are given more room to experiment and expand your palette. Five stars all the way. This is my favorite restaurant in DC. Simply outstanding. read more

Rose's Luxury is worth the wait! I got really lucky and only had to wait about 1.5 hours and got the best seats in the house. Sat at the garden bar and it was the best experience ever! Phillip the bartender is amazing! They give you potato brioche with buttermilk bacon chives spread to start and its super yummy. You MUST get the lychee salad! just get two orders of it--so worth it! There were three of us and we shared: romaine heart, duck egg, crispy potato, herbs & buttermilk grilled beef sirloin, hollandaise & green papaya hand-cut tremette "cacio e pepe" some shrimp dish Dessert was pretty spot on too! the milk ice cream and the innkeepers pie is bomb! read more
A fellow Yelp Friend, Lauren B, and I visited Rose's Luxury last month and absolutely loved it! We'd heard so much about it from other foodies and were so excited to try it. Just a note for those who don't know - the restaurant opens at 5:30pm and there is typically a very long line that forms outside it well before that. Even on a cold December evening, there was a line of at least 100 people before the doors opened at 5:30. I lined up at around 5:15pm and they ran out of open tables (they also keep some open, to stagger the process) and we'd have at least a 30-minute wait for a table, so we opted to sit at the bar, which was fine because they served everything on the menu at the bar and it was a nicer experience to chat with our server/bartender. The bar wasn't even that crowded and we were comfortably seated. I love the decor inside the restaurant - very modern chic, clean, and somewhat eclectic / unique. I also loved the service - our server / bartender was very nice and helpful with her suggestions. The food also arrived in a timely fashion, which is great considering how busy they are. As for food, everything looked so appealing to us and we were told that this is a tapas-style place. We ended up ordering: -Popcorn Soup (with grilled oyster) - this was absolutely delicious! We each ordered a cup because it's not a large quantity, but still very good. -Mezze Rigatoni with Parmesan Cheese & Truffled Breadcrumbs - Truffled anything is good and the truffled breadcrumbs were extraordinary here! We shared this plate. -Eggplant Parm with a little hand-pulled "Mozz" and house salad - We shared this dish as well and LOVED it! So delicious! 2 plates and soup were plenty for the two of us and we also got some drinks on the side - two whiskey-based drinks with rose raspberry syrup. All in all, we had a fantastic experience at Rose's Luxury and it was well-worth the wait and the hype. read more
Believe the hype. But don't let the hype dissuade you from visiting. I wandered down 8th Street SE and found myself in line behind maybe 10-15 people as of about 4:20. I came prepared with my tablet, and passed the time reading. The line grew and more than a few people asked us what we were waiting in line for. The doors opened promptly at 5 and I was seated, solo, in the first wave. They don't fill every table at once, so the tables on either side of me were empty for the first half of the meal. The atmosphere is buzzy, friendly and yet still relaxed. The servers are in good moods, everyone's smiling and it just has a great vibe going on. The decor is all wood, brick, lights and metal and it fits in perfectly. "Hospitality" really is the buzzword. Your water glass is filled as soon as you sit down and stays filled the entire time. Next you receive a warm, soft loaf of heavenly bread with honey butter. I ate the mini loaf myself and could have easily eaten another. The service is impeccable. Friendly, knowledgeable, chill and just positive in general. I noticed this not just with my server, but with the others too. Even the bartender was talking to the people for whom he was making a cocktail. I ordered a cava and the trout mousse to start. It came out fast, little bites of heaven: the mousse itself, little bits of apple, chervil and roe. I ate each one all together to let the flavors meld. In between the mousse and my second dish, my server sent me a "gift" of the famous pork sausage and lychee salad. This, kids, is the real deal. It could soon be as iconic as Rasika's palak chaat. It comes out separate, but a quick mix of the ingredients in the bowl yields a complex, unique blend of onions, coconut "dressing," peanuts, herbs, lychees, sausage and habanero. It's a practice to send solo diners like myself a free dish. It's a great way to encourage more solo dining. After that I had the spaghetti with butter, lemon and duck egg. It looks deceptively simple when it arrives, but it has a very deep flavor and is incredibly rich. I also ordered the beef crudo, slices of meat with sea salt, mustard oil and cress. Another winner; the kick of the salt is what makes it. For dessert, I ordered the coconut ice cream. I don't even like coconut, really, but I loved this: chopped kiwi, coconut milk ice cream, sugar-burnt coconut flakes and coconut milk caramel. It was fantastic. And with the check came two pieces of meringue to end the meal. I will be there again, enthusiastically. It deserves every inch of writing that's been done on it. The meal is not something you're going to get anywhere else in this city. That novelty and the perfection of the service elevate it to something very, very special. Go! read more
Stopped by on Friday evening to blow the gift certificate my wonderful brother and sister-in-law got for this porker. Decided to Metro it so we could both indulge in drinks and not have to worry about parking. Metro is a short 2 or 3 blocks away. We arrived at about 7:30pm on Friday and the estimated wait was about 2.5-3 hours. We had anticipated this in advance, so gave our number to be put on the list and headed back out to find some drinks and small munchies. Received the text 2 hours later and headed back to go get our eats on. The place is small. It is cute, cozy, and informal. It really felt like I was eating in someones home! The plates are small and to be shared. We ended up doing 9 plates for the two of us. I think 7 or 8 would have been a better number, but I guess it depends on your porker level. I did notice after taking a quick look around the room that the diners did seem to be all under 35 and that we were the only table of minorities. I also don't know but maybe it was honorary mustache night, because I definitely saw an unusually high number of men with some serious(ly awesome) mustaches! I believe the stand out items were the raw oysters with bourbon and ginger, chicken fried oysters with tzatiki, mushroom gnocchi, and the soft shell crawfish grits. The raw oysters were so refreshing and just a lovely wonderful start to our meal. The chicken fried oysters (I mean who doesn't love a fried oyster) was also great and the tzatiki paired with it wonderfully to lighten the fry. The mushroom gnocchi was decadent and rich. The soft shell crawfish grits was awesome, although I am a bit partial to shrimp-and-the-likes and grits. I have also never had soft shell crawfish and thought it was quite good! The only item we ordered that was not up to par would probably have to be the burnt romaine lettuce with avocado and cotija cheese. I found this to be a bit dull compared to the rest of the line-up. Service was great! Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and the kitchen was great with getting all the plates to us smoothly and seamlessly. I was also so happy to see Lucas at the window!! Doing great things my man! I'm looking forward to returning since the food was great and the atmosphere was a lot of fun! read more
TWO stars for supposedly, the best new Restaurant off the Year as rated by bon appetite. Four hour waits on weekends, and two hour waits on off nights just to experience Roses Luxury. Am I crazy? Do I have bad taste? I don't know, but all I know is I really didn't think the food here was anything to shout about, I don't care what I've read or what other people have told me, which was that this was supposed to be the meal that made me believe without a doubt, that there is a god, a loving god. I'm giving a dish by dish breakdown here. First, biscuit squares comes out with shallot butter topped with ash. This was actually one of the better dishes here, and it was just bread n butter... It had an interesting taste to it, and nothing I can say I had before. But in the end, it's just bread and butter, which tells you what I thought about the other dishes. Second plate I had was the popular pork sausage, habanero & lychee salad, hyped as one of the best dishes here. This dish was good, but nowhere near great. It actually tasted Cambodian, something I was really surprised about. It seemed like it was something I have had before, and maybe that's why it wasn't special to me, but it wasn't anything especially good or different. It did have a nice fresh quality to it, but there was no habanero peppers, there was no hint of spiciness or kick, so this dish was good but not great to me. Next, I got the truffle potato gnocchis. I talked to another diner while waiting for the bathroom about this dish, her eyes went wide open and her mouth agape, as she excitedly told me how awesome and tasty this dish was. So I was excited to try it, but then when it came, it was underwhelming as well. It had way too much of a black pepper taste, gnocchis are supposed to have a much more understated mild taste, but I felt the black pepper was too overpowering. The texture was nice and soft, but flavors did not match well. It literally tasted something I used to make back in the day as a kid, a toasted bagel w/ parmesan cheese, black pepper, and garlic salt, a very simple dish that resembled yet another dish from my childhood. Gourmet and mindblowing, it was not. The third small plate I got were fried green tomatoes because it's something I always wanted to try. I won't even give much of a description here other than it was bland. It's exactly how you would think a fried tomato would taste if you dipped your own tomato in batter, and deep fried it. Nothing interesting to talk about here... So after three blah small plate dishes, I was looking forward to the last main entree, the family style smoked beef brisket meal which was the most expensive dish. At this point, the meal was 3 stars. It was OK to good, but not close to 4 stars. This last meal had a chance to push it to four stardom if it was really good. Unfortunately, like the other dishes, the smoke brisket was completely underwhelming and bland. There was no sauce on the brisket. Other places have at least BBQ sauce on it to make it tasty/flavorful. This was just straight smoked brisket, with a strong horseradish sauce that I felt didn't really fit it that well, and toasted bread. Yes, the beef was tender and soft, but it lacked any real flavor. It was completely underwhelming, so much so that I only ate one piece, and I struggled to finish that lone piece at that. There were 6 left on the plate, and I had no heart (nor stomach) to finish it. A mark of a great meal is when you want to eat more and more, even when you are full. Even when your gut is telling you to stop, your tongue is telling you "more!" While Rose's Luxury is not terrible, it definitely left me unsatisfied, especially the last smoked brisket meal where I just felt like I didn't want to eat anymore, and not out of being full, it was out of disappointment for what was supposed to be the best restaurant in DC. read more
I'd been bugging my husband for weeks on going to Rose's and formulating a plan for "the line." However, he had a different idea - try to hit Rose's after the Nationals game last night. He's brilliant. Walked from Nationals Park to Rose's last night fully expecting that considering this was a total whim, no way was this going to happen. When we arrived around 7:30pm-ish, there was no line and three empty tables outside. I thought "well, this is too good to be true." And it was - hubby went inside to be told they were seating around 10pm. But, instead of giving up, since we were already there, he had a different idea - see if we could sneak in at the bar upstairs. We went upstairs and found that the bar wasn't three-deep. We positioned ourselves behind a couple and two ladies and settled in for a bit of a wait. I was committed now, so I started with a cocktail - the gin-based Bing cherry, basil, lime, and ginger beer. The cocktail was delicious, and a nice big glass, too, which was nice. I nursed it while we waited, and between 45 minutes to an hour later, the couple got up and we snagged our seats at the bar. Not too shabby a wait at all considering Rose's epic lines that I keep reading about. Husband had a headache, so he requested a Coke, and I loved that it was served throwback style with the glass bottle and everything. I switched to wine and ordered the Pinot by the glass (for $11 - not bad), which went well with our food. The first item that came out was fresh challah bread with honey and butter. Nice and warm and super-fresh, this was the perfect start to our meal and I'm glad only one came out or else I would have eaten that all night. Fabulous. We moved on to the pork sausage, habanero and lychee salad, which was fresh and delicious - I loved how the habanero offset the sweetness of the lychee with its heat and the pork sausage was fabulous. Next, we ordered a pasta, the classic Cacio de Pepe, which was so simple - just fresh pasta, Parmesan cheese, and black pepper - so delicious. If I have any complaints, it's that this dish was slightly over-salted - probably a combination of the saltiness of the cheese and just general salt from cooking. But, that didn't stop me from wanting to lick the bowl. They brought us their cauliflower dish gratis - caramelized cauliflower with greek yogurt, raisins, and other spices. I'm not a vegetables girl but this was fabulous (and elevates Rose's in my opinion - when a restaurant can take you out of your comfort zone). We decided to go for the brisket for our main course, and man, that was fabulous. The brisket was incredibly tender and I absolutely loved the horseradish creme fraiche. The bartender suggested an open-faced sandwich using the white bread and and slaw comes with that - fabulous suggestion, although I admit for round 2 I gave up on the bread and just piled the creme fraiche and slaw on the brisket because I didn't want to waste precious stomach real estate with bread! I really enjoyed sitting at the bar, something I've done more of recently. It was awesome watching the drinks that were being made right in front of us and really showcased the energy of the restaurant. Other things I liked: they take allergies seriously. That was the first thing that the bartender asked when we let him know we'd be ordering food - he let us know that would not be a problem, disappeared for a moment, and brought us back and brand-new menu with items that my husband wouldn't be able to order crossed out and the others labeled "ok" with a smiley face. Very nice. Also, the service was fantastic - warm and engaging. The bartender even folded my husband's napkin when he was in the restroom - something you usually only see at higher-end restaurants. Also, they are casual and unpretentious. There were plenty of dressed up people, but we were wearing jeans and Nationals t-shirts and no one cared. Lastly, their prices are so reasonable for what is coming out of that kitchen - you can spend an evening there and not break the bank. Truly a 5-star experience on all levels. read more
I wish I could provide an incredibly verbose and romantic review about Rose's Luxury, but words can't do justice to one of the most stimulating dinners I've had in a long time. The food gets down to business without much fuss, but with just the right number of flavor curveballs to keep you in your feet. It's encouraging to hear the menu will be changing frequently as well. However, the best part of the night was sitting at the chefs bar and being hypnotized by the organized chaos that ensued during Friday night prime time. If I didn't think I'd get kicked out of the restaurant, I would've reached over and grabbed myself a hunk of the smoked sheep's milk pecorino and started devouring it. But, you know, I'm classier than that ._. read more
If you don't fall head over heels for Rose's, we can never be friends. Ok, I'm exaggerating (a little), but hot damn is this place excellent! To pick apart the menu would be fruitless since their offerings are completely dependent on the season. The first time I went I was taken by a sugar snap pea cocktail (see pic), but the 2nd time I went, sugar snap peas were no longer at peak season so the cocktail was out of the rotation. The great fun of Rose's is picking out the nuanced flavors. Can you taste the onion ash on top of the shallot butter? Or how about the coconut foam in the lycee and sausage (vegetarians, they have vegan sausage, fyi)? Their menu is so wonderfully playful that you'll have a blast tasting each bite thoughtfully. If you are looking for Cheesecake Factory sized portions, this place is going to fail you miserably. The philosophy here (which I agree with) is "less is more." I'd rather have 3 bites of something incredible (like their bucatini with sungold tomato sauce!) than a trough of something mushy and ill-seasoned. Service during both of my visits was excellent. I cannot praise them enough! DC is lucky to have such a wonderful, reasonably priced restaurant in its city limits! read more

Despite it's small size, Rose's is not difficult to get into and the food is magnificent. The staff is engaging. The servings leave one filled but not stuffed. An excellent place for dinner. read more
I had a fantastic experience here celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. Amazing wine pairings, cocktails, and the best customer service from Brad, our bartender and our personal guide through Rose's Luxury offerings. When I first chose this place for dinner, I was hesitant with their no reservations plan. We arrived at 7 pm, put down our names, and left to the Ugly Mug for drinks while we waited. Less than 5 minutes later, we received a text that our reservations were ready and were given the selection of the chef's table or garden bar. We picked the garden bar and it was a choice that I would make again as Brad was fantastic and so attentive all evening. The environment was inviting, quirky in a good way, and very intimate. A beautiful and playful way to have a romantic date with amazing food and drinks. With only one unisex bathroom, there was plenty of run-ins with apologetic men and women who forgot to lock behind them. Though the place is on the small side, they sure did not make it feel that way. There are plenty of room between patrons without feeling like you are losing out on privacy. We started with the Jonah's claws. After knocking back a few each, we decided this was fantastic enough to go for again at the end of our meal. The crab was just briny enough, so fresh and sweet, and the accompanying sauce made with ramp (seasonal and local) was delicious. The sauce lent just enough flavor to the crab without overpowering it. A MUST order when in season. Next was the pork sausage & lychee salad. Though I had originally wanted to skip this one, I was convinced by Brad to give it a try. After one bite, I knew exactly why this was their most popular dish here. The sweetness of the lychee and the pork sausage seasoning paired perfectly with a bit of kick from the habanero peppers. We then ordered the pickle brined fried chicken which the boyfriend reported was juicy and very crispy on the outside. 10/10 from him. For our main dish, we ordered the halibut which was part of their daily specials. Again, Brad's recommendation which did not fail to impress. Beautiful, moist fish with a perfect sear and accompanying sauce. Like their other seafood dishes, incredibly fresh. Also a must order when it's on the menu. I wish they would make this a permanent member! We selected the escargot with spring onion. Very rich, savory, and flavorful with a perfect amount of sauce. Would order again when available. For dessert, we had the foie gras french toast (which stood out in just the right way for a huge foie fan) and the rhubarb cake. The rhubarb cake was very good, but was our least favorite of the night. It seems they were experimenting with the layering and it was awkward to have the biscuit on top of the soft cake which made it more difficult to eat without squishing the cake. I came expecting a bit of pretentiousness (I mean, the place is called Rose's LUXURY), but the staff couldn't have been more friendly, courteous, and personable. Food was presented beautifully and I loved that most of the dishes are interactive and required you to do the mixing, dipping, etc. I had the most magical evening here and they made it feel really special for my special someone. :) read more
Yeah I drank the kool-aid. Was it worth it? Sadly no. tldr; food is decent but not amazing and definitely NOT worth the 2+ hour wait I got there a few minutes after it opens (5pm) on Monday and was given a 1 hour window between 6:30 and 7:30pm in which I could be called. I wish they gave a tighter window (like 30 minutes) because really I ended up walking to wherever for an hour and then milling around the restaurant for an hour like a lunatic. Wait time total: 2 hours when I optimistically hoped for 1 only. Read -- this is on a Monday for 1 person, I can't even imagine the horrendous wait it'd be for a Saturday or for a bigger party. The ambience of the restaurant is adorable and lovely, with simple decorations and an open kitchen, which is where I sat. Everyone is started off with a potato brioche with butter topped with chives/bacon. Pork sausage, habenero, peanuts, & lychee salad: at first the flavors are subtle but the more you eat it, the better it gets! The pork provides the salt, lychee the sweetness, habenero the spice, and peanuts the crunchiness. The coconut is faint and does not overpower the dish. Overall spot on but not amaze-balls good. Smoked brisket with white bread, coleslaw, and horseradish: this is definitely meant to be shared, I could NOT finish it all by myself! Again the more you eat, the better it gets! It was especially good when paired with the potato brioche. Brisket was good, but again not amazing. I was given a free scoop of rose ice cream because I was too full to get dessert. I don't like perfume-y ice cream and the texture of the ice cream was strangely sticky but I appreciated the thought! Food is 4 stars but the time you put into it is not worth it. Lessons learned, there are very few meals in life that are waiting 2+ hours for....Rose's is not one of them. read more
Roses luxury deserves all of the hype that it receives. This meal was truly a fantastic experience, from the food to the excellent service. My favorite dish was undoubtedly the carrot pastrami, I could never imagine a carrot tasting so good. The oysters or a refreshing take on the ever so popular mollusk, very welcomed to see a new recipe for such a classic dish. My second favorite dish was the Cecio pepe, which is the best take I have seen on this dish. read more
I completely understand (and agree) with their previous awards. It's an excellent dining experience...for a number of reasons: - Exciting and regularly updated menu - Superior wait staff - Great wine selection (and assistance choosing when torn) - Ready parking nearby I've only been a few times, but I look forward to going again. When I first went, if you didn't get there early, you'd have to wait a long time for a seating. Not sure if this is still an issue. read more
Do not get my four star review wrong, the food here is great but it is DEFINITELY NOT worth waiting in line for hours. Scratch that, you don't even have to wait in line for a table if you plan it right. My husband and I went on a Wednesday evening around 6:15 and were told a table would be available in 45-1hr. We agreed and headed next door to Molly Malone's for a drink. No sooner than five minutes after leaving Rose's and the exact minute the bartender set down my drink did we get a text from Rose's saying our table was available and we had 15 minutes to respond. I literally chugged my drink and we went back to Rose's only to find the exact table that was empty five minutes ago when we arrived was now our table. I truly think they make you wait just because it is expected and thats not okay with me. I wasted $10 at a bar next door for really no reason. The food menu while small is very delicious. You can read all the other reviews for a detailed rundown of the dishes. The portions are small and I was still hungry after sharing four entrees and dessert. Overall a great restaurant but do not stand in line for their food. There are plenty of restaurants in DC that serve the same caliber of cuisine and will gladly take a reservation. read more

Dinner at Rose's Luxury is a true experience. The food and service are both phenomenal. My only complaint is that there is no dress code at all so some people are come in in t-shirts and shorts. I found that a bit off putting considering you are paying $100+/person for a meal and may be seated next to someone wearing their gym clothes! I guess I'm saying that I wish the atmosphere matched the quality of the food and the price. read more
I've been here 4 times. The first 3 times I had no problem with the wait. The fourth time I waited about two hours. The restaurant is very simple and inviting. The ambiance was wonderful. Service: was excellent. Every single person who works here. They work with freedom, love and no pressure whatsoever and the service they give is fun, friendly and superb!! the servers were very knowledgable.. Every dish was fully explained as they were served. I give 5 stars for the excellent service Price: very reasonable price for a Fine dining restaurant. Their bread is phenomenal! It's soft, warm and Tastes like croissant! I always get two :) Food I've tried: Lychee salad Chicken fried oyster Grilled avocado Carrot dish Spaghetti with cauliflower Spaghetti with strawberry sauce Some kinda pasta with peas Dessert: the toasty coconut and kiwi gelato was good Eggplants tart: that was a creative desert! Was really delicious! English pea cake. And a lot more dishes I don't remember. Over all the food is good. Their pasta is truly amazing. Well prepared littles plates! It's more like tapas you have to order several plates. And the price is reasonable. But, I still don't understand from where the hype is coming from and all those five stars reviews!!!! people waiting for hours and almost worshiping this place!!! Yes the food was good but is not WOW! I probably loved the service more than the food Am I coming back?! Yes, I would come back. I'm giving 3.75 *** read more
Carol W and I took my parents who were visiting from out of town to Rose's Luxury for dinner on a Monday night. It was almost a year to the day since the wife and my first visit there, so we were keenly interested in comparing our experiences. We arrived around 4:20, well before its 5:30 opening. Not surprisingly, we weren't the first group in line and the line filled up quickly behind us. Cutting to the chase, Rose's Luxury hasn't let critical acclaim and mass popularity go to its head. Our experience from food, drink, and service on this particular evening was virtually the same, if not better, across the board as our visit a year prior. Lauren, our server, was smiling, friendly, and seemed genuinely passionate about her job. She was very knowledgeable about the food and drink as she went over the menu with us in a manner that displayed actual insight, not rote memorization of a generic spiel. Our cocktails (Barrel aged Boulevardier and Mezcal Negroni) were well-conceived riffs on classics and delicious. We also had a bottle of wine during our meal. Our food (Crispy Oysters; Vietnamese Paté; Grilled Avocado; Pork Sausage, Habanero, & Lychee Salad; Asparagus, Softshell Crab, Fettucini, Family style Smoked Brisket, and a couple of desserts) was freshly made, served at the appropriate temperature, nicely seasoned, possessed layers of flavor, and outstanding! In fact, the brisket was even better this time around as the smoke notes were a bit more pronounced than what we received on my previous visit. All told, after taxes and tip, our meal worked out to around $75 per person. A steal! Rose's Luxury is, without a doubt, in my top 2 or 3 favorite restaurants in DC and in my top 10 places anywhere. Rose's Luxury continues to offer impeccable food, drink and service at an outstanding value...perhaps the best bang for the buck you'll find in the city. Come in hungry and with a party of 4-6. You'll be able to try most, if not all, of the menu and will leave extremely satisfied. read more
Rose's Luxury is one of those rare DC gems that actually lives up to all the buildup surrounding it! My SO and I arrived around 6:45pm on a Friday night to celebrate our anniverary here. We were anticipating a lengthy wait, and had already mapped out a happy hour spot nearby to spend some time before the text that our table was ready popped up on our phone. The hostess told us that it would be a 2hr. wait and frankly, after reading all of the yelp reviews, we knew we had lucked out already! While indulging in some happy hour snacks/drinks at an establishment nearby, we received a text that our table was ready within an hour, which felt like winning the lottery! We arrived to the restaurant and were shown to our seats, which consisted of two barstools in the bar area towards the back of the restaurant. Since we were celebrating an anniversary, we asked the hostess if we would be able to be seated at a table instead, since we preferred a more intimate setting for this occasion. The hostess told us to meet her in front, and told us we might have to wait another hour or so. My SO and I were more than willing to do so, when much to our surprise, it turns out a reserved table for 2 ended up being a no-show and we were seated immediately! Our waitress for the night was absolutely fabulous--she was helpful to us in navigating the menu, as well as in making us feel special and cared for the entire time. We ordered the following, which were made vegetarian: Complimentary Potato Bread: we sent back our first loaf because it was too burnt and dry for our liking, but the second one was definitely a bit more moist. Honestly, this was probably the only let-down on the menu, based on previous yelp reviews, and I can only knock down a restaurant so much on their complimentary bread Habanero and Lychee salad (sans Pork): asian-inspired salad with great ingredients Grilled Asparagus with Pineapple: incredible dish, with such complimentary flavors and the aioli at the bottom was top-notch Marco's Gnocchi: melts-in-your-mouth (literally), but probably needed a bit of salt for my liking Linguettini (sans Snails): one of my favorite dishes of the night, fresh pasta seasoned to perfection is always a winner in my book French Toast with cinnamon ice cream (sans foie gras): buttery salted french toast with sweet ice cream, it was divine Complimentary banana cake for our Anniversary celebration: a bit too sweet for me, but my SO absoluted LOVED this French Press Coffee: high-quality coffee, which complimented the dessert wonderfully Overall, this place was a homerun and my SO and I can't wait to try this place again once the menu changes, for some equally amazing dishes! read more
Rose's Luxury deserves all the accolades they have received! I loved the inventive, approachable menu and the gorgeous multilevel setting with two unique bars. As you will most likely have to wait I suggest heading to the bar upstairs and enjoy a drink over some of the biscuits with shallot butter and onion ash. For your meal start with the pork sausage and habanero lychee salad! It's a unique flavor combination that packs a punch and will make you wish they had an entrée portion. Don't eat pork? Try the crispy squid salad with avocado puree and crema. Calamari has been done before...this dish made me love fried squid again. I enjoyed the smoked brisket, but the Texas toast and coleslaw were big time misses. The Texas toast was really just toasted white bread and the coleslaw was dull and seemed like an afterthought. Dessert is what really won me over! I had to show my love for the Pacific Northwest and order the Stumptown Coffee cold brew. The bartender talked up the house made Irish cream to go with it and wow was he right! My favorite dessert of the year is without a doubt the maple bourbon French toast with foie gras and cinnamon toast ice cream. I'm generally not a fan of French toast, but this rendition wasn't overly soggy and the maple bourbon syrup was phenomenal. The 3-4 oz piece of foie gras was daring and added a unique savory component to the already delicious dessert. The cinnamon toast flavored ice cream was just the icing on the cake...well, you know what I meant. read more

WARNING: LONG REVIEW ALERT!! For my 100th review I knew I had to give deference to a restaurant that was second to none and without a doubt, Rose's Luxury fits the bill. In short, my dinner at RL was one of most amazing dining experiences I have ever had- in my life. If I were ordering my "I'm an inmate on death row" meal, it would be the entire Rose's menu, without question. Surely, I am convinced that NOTHING will top the meal I had at Rose's Luxury. A true culinary experience. Service - Outstanding. 5 stars, easy. Décor- I was in trendy, hipster-y, etsy, antique-y, pinterest-y, heaven. Food-The menu was divided by Small Dishes, larger Family Style dishes, and dessert. Small Dishes had 4 sub-categories: Cold, Warm/Grill, "Other goods", and Pasta. Disclaimer- we had a large group of about 8 people so we opted to get TWO dishes from each section of the menu. Yowza!! Start unbuttoning your pants as you read on....(but not if there are children present). First up- complimentary warm bread and whipped butter to start the meal with a carbo-load kickoff! Bread was fresh out of the oven and was a subtle hint that we were off to a great meal adventure. Small Dishes- Cold: + Vietnamese Pate, Peanuts, Herbs & Garlic Bread- so delicious. I love pate so I am a bit biased perhaps? The pate was so smooth atop the crunchy bread and the peanuts joined the two perfectly. + Summer Vegetable Panzanella- again very good & very fresh. A nice assortment. Warm/Grill: + Pork Sausage, Habernero, Peanuts & Lychee Salad- looking back- this was the best part of the meal. The dish may sound a bit odd, but with a good mixing these flavors marry beautifully. I am still dreaming of this one. This lives up to the hype. Winner #1 + Grilled Hangar Steak, Japanese Mustard, Eel Sauce & Scallions- steak was medium rare and was so tender and packed with flavor. + Whole Wheat Regenetti - Bonus dish!! Whole wheat pasta with kale and an amazing creamy sauce. This was my favorite (Winner #2) of the night. Spectacular. A+++ Other Goods: +Cierchie Bean Salad with Confit Goat & Marinated Cherry Tomatoes- the goat was spectacular and the bean salad was a hit amongst the table for sure. +Crispy Softshell Crab, White Asparagus, White Balsamic Vinaigrette- I don't usually opt for softshell crab, but I am glad I did here. It turned out to be another favorite contender and disappeared quickly. The crab with the white balsamic was A+. Pasta: +Spaghetti with Spicy Strawberry Sauce and Ricotta- stop it now! What is this spicy strawberry sauce? Put it in a bottle and let me pour it all over my body while I shower. Very different and packed full of very creative and innovative flavors. A must order. This was definitely the Monet of the meal. +Bucatini with Sungold Tomato Sauce and Parmesan - And this dish is why I know the pasta-gods wish happiness and gluttony upon us. A++ +Cacio e Pepe-- another bonus complimentary dish!! As if we needed more? (Thanks, Rose's!!) Perfecto! Pasta was perfectly al dente and the flavors were just like old Italy. An old time favorite. Family Style- the grand finale- + Smoked Brisket, white bread with horseradish and slaw- This heavy hitter was EXCELLENT. Melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Brisket with horseradish is a match made in heaven. +Braised Pork Shoulder, Peach BBQ and Summer sides - sweet and savory wins again. The summer sides were delicate and sweet, I didn't eat much if it (I knew dessert was on its way) but the table enjoyed it! Dessert: Did we have it in us? Was there anything left to give? Could we handle it? YASS!! I think a few complimentary birthday ice cream dishes were passed around. As well as the star ending act: +Corn Crème Brulee - if Montgomery, Alabama and Paris, France had a dessert love child- this would be it. It was savory and minimally sweet and was the perfect closer. What a fantasy dinner that was.... I'm in love. read more

Hello! Is there an a la carte menu currently (have reservations for Feb 2025) or it is pre-fix only?
The times I've been you've been able to order a la carte or do the pre-fix. Specific days like holidays are pre-fix only, but you should be ok on that day.
Are there gluten free options?
Yes, plus the menu changes frequently. I know there was a gluten free dessert the night we were there.
Hello, My parents are Bengal Muslims, so they don't do pork or shellfish/oysters/raw fish. I'd love to bring them here for Mom's birthday -- Would you say you have enough alternatives for them? Sadly no pork/lychee salad for 🥲.
Absolutely! Highly highly suggest the vegan "pork" and lychee version it is amazing! Many halal versions. And you can get the whole fried whitefish too!

You can choose to be seated at a later time!
What is the average price per person (menu prices seem reasonable but everyone says $$$)? Thanks!
I went with 5ppl and we tasted almost everything on the menu and it was about $70 per person.
Are we allowed to actually order what we want now - I remember back when it was all hype n stuff in 2016, they made whatever they wanted for you without asking?
The menu changes a lot but there is a menu when you sit down and you can order what you want. My friend is gluten sensitive and they were able to modify the menu pretty much on the spot to accommodate her.
Does this place still have a line even before it opens?
Not always! I went on a Monday and there was no line. I was advised to go on a Monday and it worked out.
Did they change the rules for the bar stools (upstairs), I'm being told I need to give up my seat for people on a waiting list. I thought bar seats were first come first serve?
The bar stools upstairs or downstairs? The ones downstairs are seated.

So I came here pretty much on a whim. I was in the area around 4PM on a Thursday and figured I might as well stick around and see if the hype surrounding Rose's Luxury was real. Got in line around 4:15; there were already about 20 people waiting in line. Anyways, the weather wasn't bad at all so the wait wasn't too bad. Compared to many other restaurants, the menu here is fairly short. However, there should still be enough to satisfy everybody. All the items I've had were good! Potato Bread: this came out before our dishes. It's a very playful take on bread service and baked potatoes. The potato bread is very soft. The butter that is served with the bread has chives and fried potato skins on it. It provides texture and adds to the baked potato reference. Pork Sausage, Habanero, Peanuts & Lychee Salad (14) : we started off with this salad. Everybody on Yelp pretty much said this is an amazing dish... and it was. All the ingredients work well together. Highly recommended! Romaine Heart, Duck Egg, Crispy Potato, Herbs & Butter (13) : this grilled romaine heart salad was good too. Beautifully plated as well. The addition of herbs like fennel elevated it from a simple salad dish into something a little classier. Grilled Beef Sirloin, Hollandaise & Green Papaya (15) : If you like meat or steak, you'll probably like this dish. Everything worked well in harmony together; the meat to the brown butter hollandaise to the papaya... Blue Catfish, Crispy Bread, Green Tomato Relish & Saffron Aioli (15) : this was a beautifully plated dish. The catfish was firmer than I expected but it was good nonetheless. Confit Goat with BBQ Sea Island Red Peas, Rice & Garlic Breadcrumbs (13) : probably my favorite savory dish of the night. The rice was almost a porridge consistency, which was wonderfully contrasted with the garlic breadcrumbs' crunchiness. Then stick on the goat and BBQ peas to provide brighter, bolder flavors and you get a winning dish. Spaghetti with Pistou, Garlic Capes, Jalapeno & Blue Crab (16) : also beautifully plated. Sometimes the simplest dishes are hardest to make. But even though this was essentially pasta with sauce (pistou is kind of like pesto but without pine nuts), it was a close second in my favorite dish of the night. The pasta was of a perfect consistency, the sauce was flavorful but not too strongly flavored or too greasy/oily and the addition of jalapeno and crab gave a hint of spice and sweetness. Wonderful. Smoked Brisket, White Bread, Horseradish & Slaw (31) : This was a family style dish, which means it was meant to be shared with everybody. It's a pretty huge plate with a generous portion of extremely tender brisket. It's pretty heavy by itself; eating the brisket with the slaw and horseradish is a must. Overall, it was a good dish. I'd imagine it be similarly priced at other BBQ joints. That being said, it wasn't quite as "magical" as the smaller dishes I had before this. I'd probably opt to try a few more small dishes next time instead of this. But if you are a huge meat lover, you'd probably get a kick out of this dish! Fernet & Cola Tiramisu (10) : This sounded so interesting that I had to get it. Fernet is an alcohol spirit with a lot of herb flavors. The dish was served in a cute little pan and looked very different from your traditional tiramisu. The ground bay leaves gave it a bright green color. I really liked the herbal flavors in the dish. Yes, purists may stick their nose up at this dish...but it's still well-done nonetheless. Coconut Milk Ice Cream, Burnt Coconut, Lime & Kiwi (11) : This was an amazing dessert too. Like all the other dishes, it was wonderfully plated and presented. Everything here just worked so well in harmony--from the sweetness of the ice cream to the bitterness of the burnt coconut to the brightness of the fruits. Lovely. We were given a sesame brittle (i think) at the end of the meal too. Not too hard, not too sweet. It reminds me of a Korean snack, actually lol. :) Service here was great too. I'll admit they did forget one dish we asked for but we were so full that it ended up being okay. Even then, it wouldn't be a big deal to order it. The servers were very attentive. The food came out at a perfect pace. They even gave a dish on the house :) One side note... some yelp reviews mention a prix fixe menu. It is not normally available to normal diners but is available for groups with reservations (which the restaurant offers on a very limited basis). Check their website for details on that. Overall, I loved the entire meal and experience here. It's no wonder why it won Bon Appetit magazine's Best New Restaurant in 2014 and why owner/chef Aaron Silverman just picked up a James Beard award. I would without a doubt head back...and i'd love to one day check out Rose's sister restaurant Pineapple & Pearls (located next door). read more

I've lived in Eastern Market for roughly 5 years now and Rose's has definitely been a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I've gone a few times now and haven't felt the need to write a review (word of mouth covered everything that I wanted to say), but given the recent Bon Appetit article I wanted to make sure that folks came in with an accurate picture. The Good (rather, the Amazing): The food. This place's food is incredible. People have (rightly) praised the pork lychee salad (one of my favorites). The bread is also ridiculous, the bread and butter itself is worth the wait. If you see the fried chicken on the menu, GET IT, they've switched things up a tad (probably given what ingredients are in season/keeping things interesting), so it doesn't look like it's currently on the menu, but it's probably one of my favorite things that I've eaten in the city. The drinks are also great. The Not So Good: The service. I know, I know, it's not something that is as widely discussed, but after each of my friends has eaten at Rose's and the inevitable discussion of the incredible food is over, we always look at each other awkwardly and say "but, the service, it was...not so good, right?". Especially given the Bon Appetit article praising the focus on service, I wanted to give people a heads-up. I have no doubt that the chef/owner has really high expectations for service, but unfortunately, the current staff just isn't meeting it. I want to preface this section by making clear that Rose's is ABSOLUTELY worth it, but you aren't going to be getting a particularly service-oriented evening, so just come in with realistic expectations and enjoy one of the best meals in the city. In order of most annoying: - The "freebies". Yeah, check your receipt. I've gone to Rose's 3 times and 2 of the times the server said that something was "on us" (usually just a drink or a mini-portion of a small plate). Both times it's still ended up on the bill. This is absolutely infuriating as I have no problem paying for the amazing food that I'm getting, but, if you tell me it's on the house, I'm going to get pissed when I see it on the bill later. The first time I didn't look at the check until I got home and missed it. The 2nd, I noticed and they apologized. The whole thing was one of the most awkward and irritating experiences I've had at a restaurant, as it's not something I asked for and then felt like a major ass when it didn't turn out right. So, for the freebies, I'd say just smile when the waiter says it's on the house, but it'll probably show up on the check anyway. Again, the food is worth it, so I'm fine paying, it's just annoying to give that expectation and not fulfill it.. - The slowness. This one is the most common, servers just...disappearing, usually forgetting to bring you your drink first. We waited over 30 minutes for a second drink, eventually just asking our waitress to forget it when she magically reappeared later on in the meal. Again, this was before the Bon Appetit article, so service may have stepped it up (or gotten worse given the influx of new folks). The slowness is usually mixed with an incredibly sweet personality, which is just unfortunate, as it's so close to great service. The other side of the coin are the waiters who sass you, not particularly to my taste, but I have friends that think its hilarious. That is honestly pretty awkward for me, but at least the sassy waiters/waitresses bring you your food/drink orders. - The attitude. As I said, the sass isn't particularly my thing, but I can appreciate that others enjoy that repartee. What is less than enjoyable is the inter-staff arguments that can often take place right in front of you. The first time that I went, one of the bartenders had a rather heated argument with a waiter, who was apparently not pulling his weight. Don't get me wrong, I sympathize (she was having to serve his table), but going into a corner 3 feet away isn't going to muffle you 2 arguing that much. The snide comments also between waiters is just uncomfortable, even for my friends that like the sassier atmosphere. Sass is one thing, but being mean to each other just is not necessary. So, overall, Rose's is 100% worth it. Worth the wait, worth the pretty mediocre service, worth everything. The food is astounding and you'll be talking about what you eat for weeks afterwards. But, I think a key to enjoying Rose's is to keep expectations in line (this way, if you actually get a decent waiter, your experience is even better!). The way I think of it is that the service, just like that 2-3 hour wait, is part of the price you pay for the amazing food. Although recommending Rose's to you may make that line at the door a little longer, I'd deal with a lot more than a wait and crappy service for a meal like this. read more
The glowing praise given to this lovely restaurant thus far is exactly what it deserves. In fact, it deserves more. That is why I'm sending a little more its way with this review. If I could model my house around any restaurant in DC it would be Rose's Luxury. I absolutely love how they've created a completely indoor space feel as though it's outside. As I sat enjoying my meal and company, and watching the sun's light dim through the extra large bay window in the back, I couldn't help but smile. With a little imagination, one could feel as though they're on a friend's deck just laughing and eating the night away. A brilliant modeling idea, if you ask me. The longer people want to stay, the more comfortable they feel in your establishment, the more they are likely to rake up a sizable tab. My companion and I sure did! Here is my breakdown.... Drinks: Rye, Rose Water, and Sweet Vermouth: 5 stars. I must first note the beautifully odd glasses all the cocktails at Rose's Luxury are served in. Where can I buy a set?! They really do make the drinks just a touch better, if for no other reason than they present each one in its own unique way. This rosey cocktail in particular was fancifully fitted in an old school, gold rimmed champagne glass, and topped tiny, dehydrated, pink tea rose. So sexy! 10 presentation points! On top of that it was a breathtaking creation to taste. The rye was strong up front, but its usual burn was soothed away with a gentle breath of floral rose. A must try for anyone who can appreciate whiskey and rose. Thai Basil, Cucumber, Tequila, and a few other things I forget: 5 stars. I really wanted to pour tomato juice in this, and call it a Bloody Maria. It had all the right flavors to fit the description minus the tomato. If Rose's Luxury ever adds brunch to their schedule, this would be a golden idea! Dishes: Potato Bread: 5 stars. People rave about this bread for a reason. If it's not enough to had bacon crumbs sprinkled on the accompanying butter, wait until you see the chefs put a fresh batch in the oven. It is something wonderful about watching bread cook that makes it that much better when you're eating it. Rigatoni Amatriciana w/ Smoked Sheep's Milk Pecorino: 3 stars. This was the low point of an otherwise flawless meal. I'm still not quite sure what ingredient was causing the salami-like flavor in this dish (I kind of think it was the cheese), but whatever it was it was a bit too strong for my liking. If you like very rich and powerful pasta sauces, however, by all means try this dish. You will probably love it. Pickle-Brined Fried Chicken: 5,000,000 stars. Oh my goodness. Just thinking about this chicken has me drooling. I don't even know where to start. The amazing smell of it? Golden breading mixed with honey and sesame; the most delightful and enticing smell in the world. The perfect cooking? Chicken thighs de-boned and fried until just done, and still able to drip juice down your arm with every bite. Or the taste? Heaven. Don't be scared of the mini jar of hot sauce they give you. Gluck it on heavy and just enjoy. Your mouth will burn just before the honey puts out the flames, and you'll be left with savory dark meat chicken and gentle sesame. Perfection. More please! Vietnamese Pate: 5 stars. Velvety smooth pate, just the way I like it. This was a wonderful mixture of rich French flavors and flesh Vietnamese. What an amazing and high-end play on what I mostly know to be only a low priced street food. If there is a second dish I'd say is a must try at Rose's Luxury, other than the Pickle-Brined Fried Chicken, it would be this. Don't be afraid to ask for more bread either. It will be gladly given to you. Bone Marrow Hash: 3.5 stars. I loved the presentation of this more than I loved the taste (see photo). Sadly, I found it kind of one note, and greasy. Foie Gras French Toast: 500 stars. The next time I'm at a restaurant for breakfast or brunch I'm going to ask for not only a scoop of ice cream to go with my French toast, but also a piece of seared foie gras. It's a nutty combination, but darn is it good. Oh why can I not live here?! Life would be complete... read more

**Rose's Luxury Restaurant Review** The ambience at Rose's Luxury is spectacular. The narrow layout gives the restaurant the cozy feel of a beautiful DC home, complete with an exposed vaulted ceiling and a rustic exposed wall that adds to the charm. **Pork and Lychee** This mixed bowl of goodness transports your taste buds to another country. The peanut flavor seamlessly blends with the rich umami of the pork, while the fresh greens add a delightful crunch that elevates each bite. **Squash Blossoms** The squash blossoms are perfectly complemented by a sweet and vinegar-based sauce that enhances their creamy texture, making this dish a standout. **Sweet Pea Pasta** A refreshing balance of salinity and sweetness defines the sweet pea pasta. The calamari-style noodles soak up the flavors beautifully, with the freshness of the peas shining through in every bite. Definitely my favorite dish of the night. **Lamb Pasta** This hearty dish showcases crumbled lamb with a smoky red sauce full of spices, balanced by a mild tomato base, creating a decent plate. **Kalbi-Style Pork** Served with a bit of showmanship, the large ribs are cut and dressed tableside with a flavorful sauce. The open-fire cooking adds a wonderful char, while the sushi rice and mild kimchi provide a perfect balance to the dish. **Birthday Dessert (Chess Pie)** This dessert is a rich indulgence, with its sugary sweetness pairing excellently with a bitter cup of French-pressed coffee. **Tres Leches** The tres leches is a delightful treat, featuring a crunchy coconut topping and a firm, lightly soaked sponge cake. It manages to balance sweetness and texture without being overly rich. The service here is impeccable, with the chef and his team working in perfect sync to deliver each dish with impressive speed and precision. If you're lucky enough to snag a seat at the long chef's table, you're in for a real treat. Watching the kitchen in action is an experience unto itself--perfect for anyone who loves to geek out over the art of cooking. Overall, Rose's Luxury offers a memorable dining experience with standout dishes and an incredible behind-the-scenes show for food enthusiasts. read more

Rose's Luxury is an absolute must-visit restaurant in DC!!! 100/10!! Our server Daniel gave us the greatest service we have ever received at a restaurant ever. (Coming from someone who works as a restaurant server.) The food served was meticulously crafted, perfectly timed, and wonderfully presented. It is no surprise to us that this restraunt at is Michelin starred. The atmosphere was lively, the cocktails were fantastic, and short wait times for drinks that were absolutely incredible! Some things I took note of during our dinner was: our server Daniel folded our napkins during restroom breaks, our server had wonderful cocktail recommendations, the kitchen had sent out a complimentary dish that was a cheesy peppery Parmesan pasta, the general waitstaff kept eyes on our waters and cocktail beverages, the music playlist at Rose's was lovely, our server Daniel was extremely attentive and glancing at the table making sure we were well taken care of, after finishing apps our table had new silverware and plates, after entrees we received new silverware but also the waitstaff had wiped our table off which was nice, after initially ordering our server Daniel left the drink menu behind incase we wanted more which we really appreciated, Daniel also remembered our names and shook hands, Daniel also provided exemplary bubbly service with our extra entree we ordered, he also provided a sweet and tasty wine with our dessert item, and last but not least Daniel sent us out the door with lovely orange dessert pastries for the road. I CANNOT emphasize enough how wonderful the food and service was, my Girlfriend and I have dined at many restaurants in the east coast/ west coast, and France and I cannot explain enough how wonderful everything was (GIVE DANIEL A RAISE!!!) 10/10 experience thank you guys so so much it was incredible!! Please send our regards to management and the Server Daniel!!! read more

Tonight was second time we went to Roses. The first time was good and got in really fast. It was a Wednesday night and although we did not get a table we were able to sit at he bar. Tonight was a whole new ball game. I got in line at 4:30 and someone came out to ask how many people were in my party. I was told that it would be two hours before we would be seated. I proceeded to wait it out and hoped that the story would be different once I made it through doors. Sure enough, once I was inside I was told the wait would not be long and they suggested we go upstairs and have a drink and they would text us as soon a table became available. Two beers later we go to check the status of the table and were told that there were only two people ahead of us. We ordered another beer and waited another 20 minutes. Two hours later, we went to check the status of the table and were told there were 5 people ahead of us. It was hard to believe because we were at the bar waiting and could see people coming in after us and being seated. At one point the bar tender came up to two women sitting next to us and asked them if their name was on the list for a seat at the bar. They said no and he added their name to the list. I asked if we could put our name on the list and he completely ignored me. I did not have all my cash and prizes on display so that may have had something to do with it. I think perhaps this restaurant may have lost its way. Perhaps it was once a great place to have a beautiful meal now it is a place to be seen. I may try to it again but I will not rush back. There are far too many other exciting places in DC and New York to have a beautiful and enjoyable meal. read more

This review is for a dining experience a couple of months ago. It was my mom's birthday and I really wanted to impress her (she was visiting), having dined at Rose's Luxury 4 other times. Looking back, each time I went I was not as impressed as everyone else is with this place but then again, I lived in NYC and Seattle and know what really, really good food is. So, caveat - I am spoiled but my mother isn't and from the drinks, to the food and more than anything else to service, we were less than impressed; we had a disappointing dining experience. We waited forever upstairs to sit at the bar and our food came out after even longer waits - consistently cold and two of the dishes we ordered did not come at all. When we asked what happened to the rest of our order we decided to give up on the two dishes because the ones we did get were just mediocre, but perhaps because they were barely warm and because we waited for them forever. The entire time we were there I felt judged and sized up (you know that look you get when you walk into a Christian Dior store and the salesperson sizes you up ... the look Julia Roberts got in Pretty Woman when she went out shopping on Rodeo Drive... haha.. - disappointed again!) This place is becoming one of those 'pretentious' spots based on bragging rights without delivering.. meh... Anyway, we did get one cold dish comped, but otherwise, just poor service and as a local, I won't be going back even though I had dragged a good number of friends here on my previous visits. read more

This was one of the best experiences of my life. Rose's Luxury is like a rite of passage for foodies in DC. I had always walked by and thought to myself, "these people are crazy for standing in line." Rose's Luxury 100% lives up to the hype as the Best New Restaurant in America. Yes, the no reservations rule is incredibly annoying, but you quickly forget how long you waited in line when you put that first bite of crusty challah with melty sesame butter in your mouth. It was quite literally the best meal of my life to date. The service was consistent, friendly, fun, and perhaps most importantly, very real. The host had a genuine smile on her face. Our server/bartender gave us some well-meaning grief. The girl working as barback was cracking jokes. I've been to a lot of restaurants and this is special. This place is ridiculous. Magical. Perfect. There are bobby pins and beautiful soap in the bathroom. I loved reading about it later and hearing that the staff rates the songs that are played (I really enjoyed the playlist). I will be there again, enthusiastically. It deserves every inch of writing that's been done on it. The meal is not something you're going to get anywhere else in this city. That novelty and the perfection of the service elevate it to something very, very special. Go! Don't walk to Rose's, run... then wait in line and dream of what's to come. read more

Creative brilliant DELICIOUS fun all wrapped up inside a beautiful jewel box. And believe me this is no ordinary jewel box! When you first walk in you don't know what to look at first because this restaurant has it all; to the eclectic furnishing to the beautiful woods and tile floors I felt like I was wrapped up tightly into a cocoon and would never want to come out. Every nook and cranny is filled with such passion for the love of art and food. And speaking of food where do I start? Well to begin with you must have the lychee salad and the popcorn soup with lobster and then order everything else! Your palette will be taken on an amazing journey of cultures . You can't miss with anything you order. I can't finish without mentioning the staff; beautiful charming helpful and happy.. And it all starts with the owner and chef cool Aaron Silverman. This tattooed handsome guy really knows the restaurant business through and through. Did I mention before that he knows how to cook??? My mouth is watering just thinking about his food! I can't wait to go back to eat and to hang out in this magical restaurant. read more

Standing outdoors on a rainy Tuesday night in DC's 8th Street corridor doesn't sound like the smartest of adventures, but my girlfriends' bucked us up with early cocktails, so we braved the chill and in just over half hour of standing in line, found ourselves relieved of a iPhone Charades game and seated in the warm confines of Rose's Luxury. Since we were early in line, and there is no reservation system, we ambled over to spots at the kitchen counter to watch the fun. What could be more warming than a bowl of popcorn soup? Many things, I'm sure, but at the moment the sweet buttery flavors mixed in with tender lobster bits seemed otherworldly. I'm a bit immune to attraction of small plates, long since giving up on finding an American equivalent of tapas, but this establishment makes a good go at it. This makes for a limited menu with a few misses to balance the hits, but service is so friendly the evening passed quickly. A word of warning: it would be easy to fill up on the divine biscuits, but control yourself and consider the brisket to satisfy your inner carnivore. read more

We celebrated Valentine's Day at the Rosey Penthouse and overall had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was beautiful, the service was warm, and the 7-course tasting menu was creative, fun, and absolutely delicious. It truly felt like a special evening. However, there was one major flaw that stood out -- especially for a Michelin-star level experience. For the main course steak, we were never asked about our preferred temperature. Unfortunately, both my wife and I received well-done steaks, which were overcooked for our taste. We noticed that some other guests were served medium steaks, so it seemed inconsistent across the room. For a carefully curated 7-course menu with such high standards and reputation, the execution of the main course -- particularly steak temperature -- should be consistent and tailored. It was disappointing in an otherwise exceptional evening. Overall, it was still a memorable and enjoyable night, but this detail made a noticeable difference in what should have been a flawless experience. read more

When you come to Rose's Luxury, it's not for a sit-down dinner surrounded by the ambiance of a rustic, non-pretentious, homestyle eatery. It's not for the charm of Barrack's Row with its wide variety of unique bars and wine shops. It's for the sheer brilliance of the menu and the culinary magic that occurs with what seems like very simple dishes. My first time here was for my birthday a few days ago. I still remember the very first dish we had. The pork sausage, habanero, and lychee salad. I couldn't believe how well the flavors went together. My eyes shot open at the first bite. I knew it was the real deal. Upon serving the dish, our waitress eloquently explained what sorcery went into it and how to eat it for the best experience. These are the kind of places where you have to really focus your tastebuds, close your eyes, and try to taste every ingredient. Then combine them again. The menu changes (once a month?) which should give you a reason to keep coming back. I know I will. Was blown away. read more

Ive been eyeing this place for some time. Came on a quiet Friday evening right after a busy holiday. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the sauce was immaculate. I wish there were more pasta choices on the menu, and this alone was worth the trip. The next dish, "Rose's brisket sandwich" was served on a silver platter with bagged chips and capri suns; another playful rendition of a type of classic American BBQ dish. The pickled vegetables added a nice vinegared sharpness with the fattiness of the savory meat; my only complaint was that the bottom slice of the bread was quite soggy. I feel that this is a misstep that could've been easily avoided by serving it separately. However, the taste and texture of the rest of the sandwich was quite satisfying and wholesome. Dessert was the chess pie with a sour cream sauce and apricot jam. Plenty of pie to take home for leftovers. Overall, WONDERFUL experience and delicious food. read more

Believe all the Hype. Hands down one of the best restaurants in The District! An amazingly comfortable space that makes you feel like your in a good friends home for dinner. The food, cocktails, and service were impeccable. It was my first time and our friends strongly recommended the following small plates - the tuna, fried squid, peace salad, cauliflower, jerk chicken, and gnocchi pasta. Every item was delicious - not a crumb left on the plate. Our server was attentive and knowledgable and help make a great experience. There is apparently a private dining room upstairs that can be reserved for groups - definitely worth considering for birthday dinners. Be sure to go early and wait in line - otherwise you probably won't get in. But believe me...it's worth it. read more

Great restaurant. Very trendy and quaint. For me, the atmosphere and decor were the stand outs. The service was on par for what you would expect with the price points and amount of publicity Rose's Luxury has received. The food was good, but honestly not what my friends hyped it up to be. I LOVE the menu, it is approachable and very interesting. I just wasn't in love with the execution. Every place has an off day, hour, or plate so I am very much looking forward to my second chance to soak in all that Rose's Luxury has to offer. I was far from disappointed, I think I just expected more considering all that I have heard. Regardless, I would very much recommend a sampling of their fare and ambiance if you have the chance. read more

We just had an AMAZING journey at Rose's Luxury. We had 7 awesome items off the menu and loved EVERY single thing. We sat next to a couple who ordered 2 items we had thought of ordering. They told us the flavors were incredible. We can't wait to go back to try more items. It was such a culinary delight. We were too full for desert but the waitress insisted. She brought out two items and they were both extraordinary. Our favorites are the popcorn soup with lobster and the Gnocci. We watched one of the chefs bring fresh herbs down from upstairs. We think it may have been the Cilantro that was on the liver pate or maybe the dill on the Gnocci. It all was a great meal. We highly recommend this new venue. read more

I enjoyed my food there, but was not blown away like most of the people on here. I thought the pastas were all one note (butter and fat). And while everything was well seasoned, things trended toward the sweet (brisket, schnitzel). I'm also pretty amazed that no one seems to be calling them out for their very diminutive portion sizes (save for the platters). They are very "small plates." The ambiance was great, as was the service. We ate at the upstairs bar and felt warm, cozy and in very good hands. That upstairs space really is quite attractive and homey all at once. You'd never guess you were on Barracks Row. Looking forward to heading back in the spring or summer to see what the chef has in store. read more

Definitely one of the best dinners I've had in DC in a long time. I'm not one to rush out to the latest "hot new place" but friends wanted to try it and I'm glad we did. The space is so cool - very simple, quaint, but done really well. We were lucky to be seated in their first seating time when the place opens at 5PM. The line was still down the block when we got there. Specialty cocktails are amazing - and not that expensive - around $12. The menu contains some of the most interesting combination of flavors. Everything is fresh and prepared in their open kitchen. The only regret is that we didn't save room for dessert as I can only imagine how amazing they are. Can't wait to go back. read more
