    Birria Tacos
    Michele B.

My husband and I set off to have dinner at Rose's Taqueria, but the original shop has been moved to 825 Simpson. At first we were so sad thinking they closed for good, but I called their phone number and they gave me the new address. We had a wonder taco dinner last night and my husband had their birria taco and a couple of carne tacos, he was in food heaven. I had chicken tacos and we shared a puffy taco. Their food is deliciously authentic and is my favorite stop for tacos. Their new location is wonderful and it looks like they will have room to grow which is very exciting. If you happen to be from So.Cal and living in the area, this is your place, give it a try.

This place is a huge WOW! I cannot express enough how happy we are to have found this restaurant. They just moved to this location so the restaurant walls are still bit bare but this place is freshly painted and clean! They were extremely busy when we arrived with a full restaurant and to go orders. We were greeted and our order taken quickly. Our food was soooo delicious. The beef was seasoned to perfection, refried beans perfect and rice great. Those Puff Tacos were something we had never heard of and let me tell you, total HIT here! The chicken was breast meat and seasoned to perfection. The home made corn tortillas were so yummy! We have lived here one year and never tried this place. I am beyond happy with this establishment and we will be returning again and again. Thank you!!!

If you are looking for fancy dining. This is not it. The front is unassuming and a little bleak. The inside could use a fresh coat of everything and feel much more kept up. If you are super OCD, it will bother you. But, they are all things I am willing to look past if the food is rock solid and delicious. A bunch of good reviews and when I saw puffy tacos, it was a done deal. Puffy tacos are a Tex Mex specialty with crispy shells and soft interiors. A bit labor intensive and delicate so if you find a place willing, I'd recommend it. Oh, eat them quickly or they do turn to mush quick! The shells were perfect here filled with chicken which I did not like. I am sensitive to warmed over flavor and couldn't get past that. If the awesome owner didn't show up with a plate from heaven, meaning a birria taco with cheese that would make you think you were in LA, this would have been a definite three. But that birria taco was perfection. Some are way too rich but this one, perfect! If I am in the area, I'll head straight for that birria and not look back! It definitely moved the review to a four all by its taco self!

I ordered the carne asada burritos. It was a tasty mix of steak, rice, lettuce, and cheese. The meal came with chips and salsa. I was able to order at the counter then sat for my meal which was brought to the table. Service as quick and friendly. The new location is a lot nicer than the old one. Plenty of room if you have a large group.

Ignore anyone who is nitpicking about the interior design of this place and rejoice that there is a quality taco spot in Washington. Having formerly lived near the border in both AZ and TX, I've found it very hard to find quality Mexican food since moving to WA - that is, until today. Sure, the interior of the restaurant isn't dressed up like some caricatured nightmare, but if that's what you're looking for you don't deserve the tacos this place has to offer anyway. I went for a trio of Tacos Al Pastor and they were as good as any I've had on the border. The salsas are great, the meat is extremely well-seasoned, the tortillas are wonderful, and the onion, cilantro, and lime are all fresh. My only complaint is that this place is so far from my home in Seattle. That won't keep me from coming back whenever I'm passing through Hoquiam, though!

This is a gem of a restaurant in the middle of nowhere. I really think the 5 stars of rating is justified just for the taste, the presentation and for the uniqueness of how the food is prepared. The puffy tacos and sopes reminds me of Indian fry bread meets Mexican food. The flavor is there and there's a good balance with the crunch and freshness of the vegetables. My kids raves about their tacos and quesadillas. My daughter said she has the best meat- marinated pork. I think they might serve birria but not quite sure. We really wish we live closer to patronize this gem. The restaurant may be a hole in the wall but don't be put off. The employees work very hard, too.

Best carne asada quesadillas I've ever had. Had to ask for guacamole that didn't come with it, but when asked it was promptly brought to our table. Which also was delicious! Great staff too.

#9 is always my fav now soo good every single time. The staff is great service is also great! Will be back soon

Really good food, great people, cold beer. Will be back again soon! Keep up the great work!

Great food! Just wish prices weren't so high. Recommend trying them out. Inside needs updated

Ignore the questionable looking outside...and inside. I kid you not, you won't want to eat another taco from anyone but Rose ever again. Puffy tacos, who knew that was a thing...but it is, and you should order them. They are delicious. We also had the taquitos, just as delicious. We chatted with a fellow diner and she had the sopes and said they were so good, she said she planned to come back to try every menu item...who could blame her! Ok and here's the thing, most Mexican restaurants, the beans and rice are like a plate garnish, you kinda move them around with your fork and maybe have a little, but nothing to speak of, well not at Rose's. The beans and rice are so yummy, my daughter pretty much ate all of it, I had to sneak a couple bites before they were totally gone! Definitely worth the stop folks, if you love your tacos and authentic Mexican flavors, you will for certain enjoy your stop at Rose's place.

We got a veggie burrito and also I told them I wanted a super taco but no meat-beans & cheese instead. The burrito was huge and delicious. All I got was a tortilla with beans & cheese. As our order was to go I didn't go back to correct it. Next time I'll just order meat. Their salsas were excellent-we got both green & red. They juice their own carrots for fresh juice which my husband loves. I got strawberry agua Fresca. I asked for some limes to brighten it up and though I know that's not authentic, they obliged me and I liked it better that way. I'm sure we will be back. I'm not going to hold them responsible for my taco as I don't think I made myself clear and it was kind of a weird request. I just wasn't in the mood for meat. P.S. My son and I were driving through hoquiam on our way to Grandma's house in Ocean Shores and needing a "snack" or so we thought. What we ended up getting was a street taco and the Janeth burrito. The sweet truck lady was generous about approving our attempt at pronuncing the unusual name (just like it looks) but we didn't ask for its origin. As soon as we got our food we went out of our minds with delight. The Janeth is Mexican sausage, beef, pork, avocado, rice and beans and so many fillings would usually seem like overkill to me but the flavors were so harmonious and together made one incredible mouthful after another. After we finished eating we were still oohing and ahhing about the flavors lingering in our mouths. Same went for the beef street taco which I knew would be good as soon as I discovered a carrot that was clearly pickled by hand. We've been coming through Hoquiam for thirteen years and this is our new regular spot for sure.

The best bite, the quesobirria tacos, BY FAR. My daughter said it was "the best birria I've had in a long time." The meat was tender and (not to sound too cliche) the consommé was packed with flavor. The papusas the chicken and cheese was the best one, followed by the jalepeno and cheese, the rest were not bad, just nothing to write home about. As far as the tacos go, the carne asada was fine, the adobada had great flavor and a decent char on it. This made for a great post-crab fishing meal and will likely come back next time we're in town. Oh! This place is on the pricier side, just so there's no sticker shock. The service was decent, but I'm pretty sure our papusas were dished up wrong, but such is life when they all look the same, the inside of the restaurant is all of we the place but super clean.

My wife ordered four pupusas and two servings of curtido before I arrived. When I came in, I simply wanted to ask if our order had already been started because, if it hadn't, I was considering making a small change. Before I could even explain what I was asking, I was abruptly interrupted and told, "You can't change orders." Had someone simply explained that the food was already being prepared, I would have completely understood. Instead, the interaction felt rude and dismissive, as if there was no interest in even listening to the customer. Later, while we were seated, I asked if we could have an additional curtido. I was told there would be an extra charge. What surprised me was not the charge itself, but the attitude surrounding the conversation. After the earlier interaction, it felt as though we were not being welcomed as customers. I even pointed out that if I had ordered the pupusas separately, additional curtido would have come with those orders anyway, making the charge seem unnecessary and inconsistent. My family and I have eaten here two, three, and sometimes four times a month. This is not the first time we have experienced poor service, but we overlooked it because we wanted to continue supporting the business. Unfortunately, today's experience was the final straw. What made the situation even worse was that I asked to speak with someone about my concerns. More than 15 minutes passed, and no one came out to speak with me. In fact, I am writing this review while still waiting. What was especially frustrating was that the restaurant was not busy at the time. There were plenty of empty tables and open seating areas, so it did not appear that staff were overwhelmed or unable to respond. A simple conversation, explanation, or apology would have gone a long way. At that point, the issue was no longer about an extra serving of curtido or any additional charge. It was about customer service, communication, and basic respect for customers. We felt ignored and unappreciated despite being regular patrons. Food is only part of the dining experience. Service matters just as much. Customers can overlook mistakes, but they remember how they are treated. I sincerely hope management takes customer service seriously because it is one of the most important parts of running a successful restaurant. We always tip over the customary amount. Not today! Sadly, after today's experience, this will most likely be our last visit.

As a flight attendant and an unapologetic foodie, I've eaten my way through cities all over the world. You learn pretty quickly when a restaurant is simply serving food versus when it's serving something made with genuine care. This place falls firmly into the second category. The customer service? Just the sweet Rainier cherry on top of an already incredible experience (and yes... go look at their bakery case while you're there). Jocelyn was phenomenal. I asked how this little slice of heaven came to be, and she happily shared the story behind it. One owner spent years as an executive chef at a casino, while the other built a career as a professional baker in Aberdeen. Boy, does that expertise show. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles. A little context: I mostly eat pescatarian these days, so when I do splurge on chicken, my expectations are sky high. I've built it up in my head as one of the foods I miss most (right alongside a good ribeye), and it's almost always disappointing. Not this time. This chicken is absolutely ridiculous. They debone a chicken thigh and fry it into the crispiest, juiciest piece of fried chicken I've had in a long time. It's made with a gluten-free batter, which means more people get to enjoy it. And before anyone assumes "gluten-free" means sacrificing flavor... think again. Plenty of great chefs will tell you the best fried coatings come from starches like potato or cornstarch anyway. What really made this meal special, though, was that my partner is vegan. If you've ever dined out with someone who's vegan while you aren't, you know how rare it is for both people to walk away feeling like they had an equally great meal. It almost never happens. Here, it did. She ordered the vegan Indian tacos with corn tortillas, and they looked incredible. She was excited to try the fry bread, and instead of simply serving it, the staff thoughtfully explained it wasn't vegan and helped her choose an alternative. That's the kind of attention to detail you don't forget. Our service was perfectly paced. If you're looking for food in five minutes, there are plenty of places where "cooking" means microwaving something that arrived frozen. This isn't one of those places. Everything tastes intentional, and that takes time. Our food still arrived in under 20 minutes, maybe even less. Slow down, talk to the people you're with, and enjoy the experience. Great food isn't supposed to feel rushed. We stumbled across this gem on our drive home from Ocean Shores, and I'm so glad we did.
