    Viet sub coming up.

Wow the banh mi here just blew me away! I was expecting another grilled banh mi but was happily surprised to see the trays of cold cuts greeting me. The bun is a nice size and crispy crunchy on the outside and chock full on the inside. I got the optional chillies added and they were nicely distributed so THANKS for that! The Viet iced coffee was delicious. Cool spot to duck in from Chinatown mayhem with a bit of a NYC vibe.

I was really craving a good Banh Mi and I saw this place on Reddit. The decor inside was quite nice and clean. It seems to be run by a mother and son duo. They were both so polite and friendly! The combo which includes a banh mi and any drink was $11 and I thought it was a great deal. Initially I was only going to get 1 combo and share. But because I wanted spicy and my friend didn't and because the son HIGHLY recommended the chilli and their homemade satay sauce, we just decided to get 2 combos even though they were willing to put the chilli and satay sauce on the side We got the grilled chicken and pork skewer banh mi and the Vietnamese iced coffee and their Longan green tea. Everything was so good. The banh mi was so delicious. the bun itself was so crispy and the pickled veggies inside were very fresh. The pork meat itself was tender and juicy. Also the son was right, the chilli and their homemade satay sauce was a game changer. It was so delicious and the satay sauce gave such a fantastic umami flavor. The drinks were equally as good. The Vietnamese iced coffee tasted very authentic. It was rich, creamy and sweet with condensed milk. The longan green tea on the other hand was so refreshing. It had jelly and sweet pieces of longan in the tea. I didn't get a chance to try the grilled chicken banh mi, but I'm sure it was also delicious. I loved it so much, I ordered an extra sandwich as takeout for my brother. Service was a bit slow since it was only the mother making the sandwiches and drinks. But honestly, it's a local family business. I'm not going to take a star away just because of that. I will definitely be returning when I am in the area again. Also they take Amex which is always nice.

$11 Combo, iced coffee and grilled chicken banh mi

The value for the combo is great - I got the grilled chicken banh mi and iced Vietnamese coffee for $11. The banh mi was so good and fresh. It came with their homemade chili paste. I'm sensitive to spicy food so I asked for less paste because for me, it was pretty spicy! Service can be on the slower side but it's a small family business. If you're not in a rush, check this spot out, it'll be worth the wait.

Rose's Viet Subs located along Dundas St. near Spadina Ave is Chinatown's newest spot for banh mis and vermicelli/rice bowls. This family-run business opened recently in the area and they are becoming a favourite for everyone. The restaurant is located in the basement floor where you do have to walk down a flight of stairs to access the space. They are also open daily from 11am to 7pm. The menu is small but consists of bowls (pork belly/char siu/grilled chicken sticky rice or pork vermicelli), banh mis (cold cut, pork, chicken or char siu), drinks (coffee or milk/green tea), and desserts (flan, smoothies, etc.). There are combos (either the Viet sub combo or bowl combo) where you get a drink with your sub or bowl - the combo is great value! I stopped by Rose's Viet Subs on a Sunday when they opened at 11am. The place is easy to miss as it's tucked downstairs but look for the neon banh mi sign and you are in the right place. Walking in the space, there are plenty of tables and seats for you to enjoy your food and drinks there. Walking to the counter, they have menus you can look at to order your food/drinks. I opted to get the Viet sub combo - got a classic cold cut banh mi as well as their salted caramel iced coffee (one of their best sellers where I asked for it to be less sweet). My food was made at a reasonable time and I ate my food there. Unwrapping my banh mi for the first time, I was surprised at how big the sandwich was! It was stuffed with ingredients and everything tasted great together (the banh mi, cold cuts, mayo, and cilantro/pickled carrots/daikon). The bread also had the right amount of crisp. I couldn't finish the whole banh mi and took almost half of it home for later. The salted caramel iced coffee was tasty as well - not too sweet which was good. The perfect drink to go with my delicious banh mi. Service was genuine, authentic, and friendly - the mom and son working there wanted to make sure customers enjoyed their food. Overall, a delicious new place for banh mi in the Chinatown area! Definitely great value and will return to try more banh mis as well as their bowls in the future.

I tried their bahn mi for the first time after being recommended by relatives to try this spot. I thought that the employees were very kind and I appreciated the small talk as it felt like they cared about their customers. The restaurant was clean and service was not long etiher! The chicken bahn mi and iced coffee were absolutely delicious and as a combo, it was only $11 (pretax)!! The flavours were very well balanced and the portions were very generous. Vietnamese coffees can be overly strong or sweet for ke but I kept sipping on this one because it was that yummy! I'll be back again soon!

    Pork skewer banh mi spicy

The place is nice and clean and the gentleman behind the counter was so helpful and attentive. I got the pork skewer banh mi and it was fresh off the grill! There were a lot of vegetables in the sandwich I passed on the pate and pork floss but asked for satay so good. Took the sandwich home and was only able to eat half of it. Will definitely return.

The best tasting bahn mi I've ever eaten
    Michele L.

Best bahn mi I've ever eaten. I got the sandwich and drink combo. (Original sandwich) The house made sambal was excellent. I asked them to add jalapeños and it's also a house made sauce. The lemonade is exactly how I like it. Very tart. Too bad I don't live near here. But I'll always be drooling for another bahn mi from here.

Fresh, flavorful, and worth the stop. Everything tasted well made, and I'd happily come back for another sandwich.

This small little bake shop had a menu hanging up, but I completely ignored it thanks to the baked goods right behind the counter that I was too busy staring at. I knew right away that I was going to order a Chocolate Croissant because, well, I always order a Chocolate Croissant if one is available. After making my first choice, this strange little baked good caught my eye, and it turned out to be something called a Cruffin.......a Cruffin you say? What is a cruffin? WELL, let me tell you. The cruffin is basically like a muffin, but like, with cheese and pepperoni on it so obviously I hate to order that sexy little bad boy right away. This thing wasn't big, but it was very dense and basically tasted like pizza crust which was absolutely delicious. After eating the cruffin, the Chocolate Croissant seemed way less cool but I ate it anyway. It tasted good and the chocolate was actually spread across the whole thing so they get an even bigger thumbs up for doing it right. Overall, COBS Bread was the spot! I had no idea this was a chain, but who cares, this place was great. I really liked the Cruffin I got and the croissant was really good as well. I will absolutely be revisiting COBS Bread when I come back to Canada and devouring a few more cruffins while I'm at it!

Here's a cinnamon bun, you know what it is lol. The one thing I'd say that will elevate this from a…read more5 to a 10 is if somehow they can get that glaze at the bottom of the bun to be i side of the bun. The interior is dry while the bottom and top is moist. It's height and width is too high and wide so any attempts to bite (to get that moist sweetness to mask the middle dryness) just guarantees a joker's smile of smeared sugar... so, overall a decent bun, but nothing you'd dream daily about. Want to also add the store is very well organized with their display of goods and the service is professional and efficient.

It blends a traditional Italian deli style with a modern downtown vibe and is known for fresh panini made with quality meats and ingredients, many imported from Italy. We tried their "Il Padrino" and "Capricciosa" panini, and both stood out with crispy fresh bread and a great balance of mortadella, prosciutto, salami, cheese, veggies, and sauces. The combination of fresh bread, curated deli meats, and flavorful sauces gives each sandwich a really nice touch. Besides sandwiches, they also carry Italian-style groceries like pasta, cheeses, desserts, and drinks, which makes the visit feel like a quick trip to a small Italian market. Blink and you'll miss this one! It's down some steps and features so outdoor seating as well. I was intrigued when I heard that another Italian cafe/sandwich shop opened near the Annex/Harbord Village. They have a variety of panini style sandwiches with a fridge/freezer of imported items such as frozen meals, meats, dried and spreads, sauces, cake slices and gelato! All the sandwiches sound delicious! Hard to choose! I went with the Alla Romana $16 (Prosciutto from Abruzzo Italy, Semi-dried cherry tomatoes, Balsamic glaze, Fior di Latte). The bread was crusty & warm - all quality ingredients!! The prosciutto & other topping were plentiful. Great flavours. Fresh! You can tell it was made with care. I was surprised at how big the sandwich was. It was cut in two & placed in a take away container which travelled well. The sandwich was still intact and perfect when I got home. The bread has a good crust but was soft inside to be a good compliment for the filling! I did get a piece of tiramisu & a small single serve cup of gelato from the fridge/freezer to be tried later!! I am a big fan of sandwiches with quality great & quality filling and this checks off the boxes. Staff was friendly and the sandwich is a good value given the top quality ingredients. If you've been to Italy you will appreciate inspired sandwiches & pantry items! Quite a few tables to sit down and enjoy your sandwich with a cold or hot beverage. They have a TV with the Olympics on too! The sandwich picture doesn't do it justice! Go see for yourself!! :)

Looking for a Sandwich place that is different, cutting edge and makes your taste buds melt? Well…read morethis is not your place! I'm going to continue with my overtime take out review series with Sandwich Box. You would think making a sandwich is probably not the most complicated task out there, but this place seems to get it all wrong. My order consisted of an egg salad sandwich on whole grain bread with a side salad. When I received it, I only got the sandwich and the restaurant failed to tell me the salad was no longer included in the combo (yet the price remained the same). That's great that the online menu was not updated to include items no longer available, a simple update would address all these problems knowmsayin? Now on to the actual sandwich, the bread was thick. I mean so thick it looked like there was about a half an inch of eggs inside of two encyclopedias worth of bread. The eggs themselves, totally flavorless and bland. Kinda hard to mess up an egg salad sandwich right? Even Tim Horton's can get that right! To make things short and sweet, I'll be looking over this option the next time I'm working late or considering a sandwich in the downtown area.

I agree that the price for a sandwich plus side salad is quite pricey ($13 including tax) but I like the fact that everything tastes fresh and light, and you have alot of options to customize your sandwich in a healthy way. I ordered the rosemary focaccia with chicken breast, arugula, avocado and chipotle spread plus their usual sprinkle of salt, pepper and squeeze of lime. It's like a gourmet sandwich - the bread was thick, soft with hints of rosemary and yummy. The salad was mostly arugula with carrots- this was very lightly seasoned but at least I won't be hit with itis going back to work! Definitely would come again, although not regularly since it's kinda pricey.
