Komi House Style Pork Sandwich & Fresh Shrimp Rolls
    Julie H.

Stumbled upon this Banh Mi Bar and tried the Komi House Style Pork Sandwich. It was very flavourful and good. The bun was soft and crunchy. It was nice i get to pick the spice level. I got the mild and it was sweet, not spicy at all, just the way I like it. I also tried the Fresh Shrimp Rolls which was simple and delicious. I opted fire the peanut sauce and it complimented the rolls very nicely.

Komi offers the standard Vietnamese hits (banh mi, vermicelli, spring rolls) along with bubble tea. While fairly typical, it executes them well. Stopped by their first week and got: - Honey Garlic Chicken Banh Mi: Loved this. The banh mi was how I like it - chewy throughout and a bit crispy on the edges. The chicken was sweet-ish with the honey, and the veggies were generous and nicely pickle-y. Got this with sweet thai sauce and it added to the overall pleasant sweetness of the sandwich. - Asian BBQ Beef Vermicelli with additional spring roll: A bit disappointing. While I liked the bbq flavour of the beef, it was a bit inconsistently cooked (some pieces were perfect, some were tough). Thought the vermicelli noodles and spring roll were standard (not bad but also not great). - Passion Fruit BBT with Lychee Jelly: Generous on the jelly. Also seemed to have bits of passion fruit which I liked. - Iced Vietnamese Coffee: Strong and sweet like it should be. Komi offees dine-in and takeout. Space is small yet maximized and clean. While service is mainly order-at-the-counter, it's done efficiently and with a smile. A good addition to the neighborhood.

Shrimp rice paper rolls & grilled pork rice paper rolls

Whenever a new Vietnamese place opens, I make it a mission to try them out. Luckily this location happens to be right around the corner from my work. Because I hate having to wait for food to be prepared, I preordered my order via Ritual. Pickup was set for 1:15PM. What I ordered: · Egg & paté banh mi · Shrimp rice paper roll · Grilled pork (Nem nuong) rice paper roll The banh mi was nicely toasted, a beautiful crunch as I went in for a big first bite. I love how they loaded it with all of the pickled vegetables that consist of carrot and daikon then the fresh sprigs of cilantro and thinly sliced cucumber. Egg was nice and fried, unfortunately no runny yolk but it was jammy which is what I love. The paté was quite different from the usual that I have had, there was still the creamy texture but it was more crumbly. Overall good banh mi. 8.5/10 The rice paper rolls. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, juicy and not dried out. The nem nuong...I was a bit disappointed as it did not appeared to be grilled, they tasted streamed which I don't mind but I'm wondering it was because they made it in a rush? The sweet Thai chili dipping sauce that came with it was very sweet and sour, there were chilis but the heat was almost non existent. The way it was wrapped also...the filling could have easily fallen out. Both ends were left opened. Shrimp roll: 9/10 Grilled pork roll: 8.5/10 If you live along the Danforth and are looking for a quick yet delicious bite to eat and not craving Pho. I would say give Komi a try :)

It's very quaint and pretty standard for the area, nothing flashy, just a simple neighbourhood restaurant. We went on a Friday around 11:30 AM and were the only table there, which made for a quiet and relaxed lunch. We ordered the bún bò Huế and the pad thai. Both were fine, but nothing particularly memorable. They did the job, but neither dish really stood out enough to make me crave a return visit specifically for them. That said, this is very much a no-fuss kind of place. Prices were on the more affordable side, around $15 per dish, which is always appreciated in Toronto. The atmosphere is casual, the service was straightforward, and the food came out without much of a wait. Overall, it probably wouldn't become my go-to spot, but as a vegetarian-friendly option in the area, it's a solid and easy choice if you're nearby and looking for something simple.

Food was excellent and service was accommodating. I had beef rib pho and complimentary warm tea. The sauce to go with the beef rib was quite good. I got the rest of the pho to go, as it was a huge serving. It was a bit of a challenge trying to put the contents of the huge bowl into the takeout containers and I imagine other people have this same issue. Will definitely be back. They specialize in meat platters where you can create DIY fresh rolls. The platters come with lettuce, mints, vermicelli, rice paper and house special sauce. They also have pho, rice, and vermicelli dishes as well. Washrooms are located downstairs which are not accessible. They only accept cash (with a 10% cash discount) or debit. I previously have had Anh Dao for take out before - their pork sausages (nem nuong) are delicious and perfect when you wrap them with vermicelli and fresh herbs. Even when I got take out, the restaurant gives you plenty of fresh ingredients to create your own fresh rolls. I recently went to Anh Dao for lunch to dine in at the restaurant on a Friday around 12:30pm. The place was pretty quiet as it seemed like I was their first customer that day. During my time there, there was another party of 2 that also came in to eat lunch. I opted for the house special soup pho ($19.95). Service was friendly and my food came at a reasonable time after I ordered. The house special pho included slice rare beef, beef brisket, beef balls, and tripe. The soup was slightly sweet with a nuttier flavour. The noodles were unfortunately not the fresh kind but there were ample beef ingredients in the bowl of pho for the price you are paying. I love how in addition to siracha and hoisin sauce, there is also ground up chili sauce as well as a pickled sliced garlic and jalapeno pepper mixture at the table. Moreover, you get bean spouts, a red chili pepper, fresh herbs, and lime that you can add to your pho broth. Overall, a tasty bowl of pho where the quality of the beef was good. Anh Dao is a tasty option for Vietnamese food in the College and Spadina area. Definitely do try their meat platters as they are quite delicious!

I tried to finish the broth because it was so good. I would have given that first bowl 4 stars! Today was terrible! It just felt like a super water-downed broth that I didn't want to drink. Everything was just boiled and dumped in a water-downed soup base. The least they can do is use broth and dump it in the seafood tomato based soup. This was a 9pm dinner. They had their own family visiting to close up shop at 11. I tried asking them what happened to the broth today but they didn't speak English or just decided not to. It was disappointing for a bowl of $21 + tax noodle that was just pretty bland tonight even though it looked the part.... Sigh 2 stars today but couldn't average it out to 3 because now I remembered the spring rolls from the first visit were soggy Yes they are friendly but don't know if it's a place you should come before 7pm to catch the good broth?

The dry noodle dishes under the green column use egg noodles & those under the brown use rice noodles but the toppings & sauce are the same. The most pricey rice noodles are Japanese but otherwise the difference is width. Got the thin egg noodle version in large. It's recommended to add pickled garlic & red vinegar. The soup was pretty tasty with a natural sweetness, 2 springy half fishballs & a large, very fresh shrimp. The sauce was basically oyster sauce but pickled garlic, red vinegar, hoi sin & chili sauce were available to add complexity. The noodles weren't wet but were not dry either. Large was a very big bowl it came with minced pork, thin sliced pork beansprouts & greens. The pickled garlic was good. Also got a shrimp fritter on the side for $2.50. It was big with one tiny shrimp. The juxtaposition was comical but it was cheap. It was not warm but the fritter was crispy & tasty. Unfortunately the shrimp itself was dry & brittle. Got the dry pho with chicken - personally would prefer a bun (vermicelli) instead. The green onion tofu had a good flavour with the sauce but found it was fried a bit too much, making it crispier than I'd like (it felt more like tofu skin than I could enjoy the tofu itself). This was served with a bowl of sesame cracker and prawn crackers - very tasty and a fairly large appetizer you can share with friends. There was definitely more beef than there was crackers but very tasty - 8/10 Pork Belly Claypot - $20.95 - steamed rice served with clay pot of braised pork belly, egg and pickled vegetables.
