I was initially drawn to Tuesday night Paella and found this cute little bistro tucked away under some trees off a main road. Parking was a little hard to come by in the neighborhood, but not impossible. I ended up waiting a little over 1.5 hrs after checking in with the hostess and we were able to snag the very last plate of paella! I've had my fair share of paella and I'm in no way a paella snob, but this one missed the mark for me. 1) the portion did not reflect the $34 price tag. 2) portions of the rice were undercooked and very hard. 3) it was way too salty. It did come with a mix of mussels, clams, shrimp, and sausage, with a side of toast, but I can't justify this part of the experience. We also ordered calamari and croquetas. The croqueta was delicious and flavorful, but the calamari didn't stand out. It tastes like any other calamari. The rough thing is that what i got was actually so good but the portion was crazy small. I went to Rosie's after seeing a picture of their steak frites and the picture was a pretty great sized steak and fries the steak was sliced into at least 8 good slices. My friend and I were gonna share and then what we got was a TINY 4 slices of steak. And they don't seem to have a lunch vs dinner menu. $35 for 4 slices of steak does not sit right with me. read more

Went there on a Tuesday evening. It was crowded but we are able to get two seats at the bar. The drinks were awesome and the appetizers were great. We tried the paella but sadly we were disappointed with it. It lacked protein and the serving size was disappointing. For $32 a plate it should have some protein...shrimp, clams, muscles, something? A couple of the tables have umbrellas for shade. We ordered a couple appetizers to snack on with our cocktails. Yes, they have a couple cocktail options, but a larger wine selection hence wine bar. For cocktails, hop over next door to Howard's. It's also a cute bar... and owned by the same people. The appetizers and drinks were good. The service was not great given that it was not very busy. I was greeted not long after I arrived, but my experience took a strange turn when I ordered a martini and was asked for my card to start a tab. This has never happened to me at any other MML establishment. After about 15 minutes, the server checked in to see if I was "still good". I intended to order food, but I had to catch her attention as she rushed by. I ordered fries to start, which arrived without any setup. I had to flag her down, asked for a napkin, and she returned with just a cocktail napkin. I expected a linen napkin like other patrons received. So I had to ask for one. She then came back with a cloth napkin but still no silverware. After finishing the fries, she asked if I wanted more fries, which felt rather odd. Well, one year later, I came back and finally made it for paella night again and let me just tell you it is still as phenomenal as it was the first time. I know I've read that people complain about the seating and not having tables available. They do explain to you online to get their way in advance for time so you can get a table because they do not take reservations for this. I personally arrive at 5:00 PM since they start cooking at 5:30 PM and then by 6:00 PM it is ready to get served and it is amazing. Also, they have an amazing happy hour from 5 PM to 7 PM so you can enjoy this while waiting for your paella and with appetizers as well. Probably the best paella I've found in town. While expensive, $34 per plate, and the plate is not large, but sufficient, the flavors are wonderful with a nice soccarat. Mussels, clams, shrimp, sausage, and chicken in the mix. A piece of toasted and buttered bread is served to start. My friend and I had been seeing Rosie's all over Instagram lately and decided to go for Tuesday paella on the patio. We found free street parking nearby in the Align parking lot (just a few spots and only free after 5pm). We put our name down at 5:30 and our table was ready at 7pm. In the meantime, we went Nextdoor to Howard's for a drink (owned by the same people). We were seated at a little table on the patio by the windows, and thank goodness because shortly after, it started pouring with rain. We were protected by the awning, but so many other tables had to scramble for cover. The paella is cooked outside, so they had to figure out an alternative, too. Despite all the chaos, everything was delicious! We each ordered paella ($32/person, and although the plate is small, they really pile it on there), the anchovies, and the jamón and manchego toast. The paella came with pan con tomate, which tasted mostly like garlic bread (and to be honest, I didn't see or taste tomato on it). Nevertheless, it was tasty! We each ordered a glass of wine to go with the meal and finished the night with a slice of basque cheesecake (sadly not pictured). All in all, with tip it came out to $158. Service was very attentive, and the ambiance was great, minus the rain! I would definitely come back and would recommend this to others, just be aware it is on the pricey side. read more

There's a mixture of indoor and outdoor seating and it's a nice place for a date night, however, any place that charges $25 for an espresso martini is robbery. One cold day on a trip to Austin, my husband and I wanted to have a glass of wine. We stopped in at Rosie's which was kind of hard to find. One there, we realized how small this place was. There was outdoor seating but got a chilly night we headed inside. Luckily there was a couple seats by the window bar. It was very dark (you have to use your cellphone to read the menu) and the music was pretty loud from a speaker over our heads. Everyone seemed very nice. Rosie's Wine Bar is such a gem. My friend and I kept exclaiming how it felt as if we were in a different city. Today's weather was amazing, and it felt so nice to sit outside on the "patio" and order wine and small eats. They also have seating inside next to the bar, but it was too bright and nice of a day outside to not take advantage of it. The ambience of the wine bar is truly special. I don't think there's another bar in Austin that gives quite the same vibes. It makes me feel as if I'm in NYC or in Paris. The aesthetic is so nice. My friend and I both ordered a glass of rose and white wine, and we thoroughly enjoyed both. I'm not a wine connoisseur by any means so I can't speak to how good the wine is, but I thought my own white wine was really crisp and not as dry as was described to me. I also really enjoyed the small eats we ordered. I highly recommend the jamon toast and calamari. The lemon and chili oil made for a great balance for the calamari, and I'm just a huge fan of eating meat and cheese with wine. It transports you to Europe with its charming cobblestone patio covered with string lights and surrounded with white flowers in red planters. The inside seating is just as quaint as the outside. We came on a girls night and it was the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine and catch up. It's really a place you can sit chatting for hours! For a glass of wine, it's pricey with $14 being the cheapest option and the red wine I selected wasn't my favorite, although my own selection could be to blame. Super cute spot on west sixth, just on the edge of downtown. Perfect for a gals night or date. There is limited seating as it's pretty small, but spots both inside and outside. The patio is definitely a vibe, especially in the warmer weather. It seems that it can get pretty busy and I'm not sure I'd come with a large group. Parking is also quite limited to either valet or street parking, but I was able to find a spot a short walk away. Servers and bartenders are all super friendly. You can go in and order at the bar so it's pretty quick if you are just hanging outside. All the gals in my group enjoyed their various wines; I too enjoyed a alcohol-free mocktail similar to an aperol spritz. It was yummy and refreshing! Being pregnant and missing wine, I really appreciated they had something fun for me to drink along with everyone else. I didn't feel left out or like I was really missing out! I think this place has a good idea, but there's a lot of things that are wrong with it. Most of their seating is outdoors and considering our summers are long here sitting outside it's very hot and difficult. They have fans and misters, which actually make it bearable. However, their style of seating is very small tables right next to each other, this doesn't work well when misters are loud. Therefore you're having to shout but still making it very difficult to hear one another. unfortunately, our server was very rude, condescending, and you really felt like he hated his job or did not like us there. Therefore, we had one drink and decided to leave and have dinner across the street at Lynn's which grateful we did because they had much better customer service. The other thing I would like to note about this place is they share a bathroom with Howard's, the bathrooms had to be designed by men (no disrespect) they're very dark/shared bathrooms, meaning that when men use the bathroom, they're having a very difficult time getting it into the bowl thus the seat being drenched with pee, and as for a woman, this is awful even when you're putting a cover on top of the seat. Just something to consider when you're sharing bathrooms, for sanitary purposes, you'd like to be able to see where you're using the bathroom. For out of town folk: parking is not great, it's street parking. Typical for downtown but just be aware if you're not Uber give yourself extra time to find a parking in the neighborhood. read more

Service is always great here, I've had the same guy all three times I've been and his energy is a great addition to my experience. There were 3 wait staff that rotated taking care of us taking our drink order and bringing the food. Paella is served periodically on Tuesday nights for $34 which includes a small salad, piece of toasted bread and a lunch plate size serving of paella. The portion was fine for some of us but felt small for the bigger eaters. The paella had a decent amount of seafood and the rice included some of the charred pieces from the bottom that caramelized and flavorful! As our plates were being picked up, one server asked to bring our check while we were still enjoying the last sips of our drink... and we still wanted to try the Basque cheesecake- a favorite of ours. While burnt on top, the dessert was more of a cake like consistency and not as gooey as we had hoped but good overall flavor ($9). There were a few Spanish inspired speciality cocktails offered. Cute atmosphere but incredibly tiny inside. The one star is based on service because the staff when I went a couple months ago were not welcoming. No smiles and almost felt like they were mocking you. So uppity and give off the wine snob mentality. You're better off going to Austin Winery or Meteor. I went to go order another glass of wine (3rd of the entire night) and this staff member told me he didn't feel comfortable serving my friend anymore. And then proceeded to tell me that I should tell her not to have another glass because it came better from me than him. I understand he probably didn't want to make a scene but such an uncomfortable thing to ask me. Regardless, That is YOUR job. If you don't feel comfortable, then you shouldn't be serving drinks or working in service. For what it's worth, we were not hammered and it was just a bigger group in their tiny establishment.
