This review is specifically to complain about an employee by the name of Rakeem M. He absolutely NOT be working in the service industry in any capacity! From beginning to end, he was extremely rude and borderline frightening. Upon approaching the cash out section, for one, no one was present AT ALL! Once I saw Rakeem surface, I walked to the entire other end (he made no attempt to meet me in the middle), there was no one else present that needed assistance. I was pleasant and asked him how he was doing to which he replied "I'm here". Then when I went to hand him my voucher, he yelled "put it down!" So I did. Then he asked for my ID, which I was utterly confused about since I had not been there before, nor did I get a card. When I went to hand him my ID, he again yelled "Put it down!" This time I retorted "don't yell at me". The experience was so unbelievably rude I no longer wanted the money. It wasn't a lot anyway and I just asked for my ID back and left the vouchers and walked away. This guy needs to be disciplined or fired!!! I am not from Hampton and in addition had family visiting from out of town. Between Hampton and Newport News, I will NEVER patronize that side of Hampton Roads again!! BEWARE. security is less than adequate inside as well as outside. Man confronted me inside and security was completely on his side. Even when a real police female officer stated to me it was not the customers first time at being an issue the male security took the side of the the aggressive customer. In fairness to Rosie's, we are not gamblers. We went only because it was "date night" and it seemed like a fun way to end the evening. I guess it's a "gaming emporium" and not a "casino" becaYTHERE ARE ONLY slot machines there. I think there might have been some horse betting over in the corner but I'm not sure. Again, not being in the know about slot machines (and except for one bay that were nickel slots) all the machines are penny slots. That's cool! I put in $5, hit the lowest bet possible (which I think was 20 cents) and won 75! After about 10 min, I was up $14. I cashed out! To me, I won big! My husband bet $20, and lost all 20. Based on our experience, bet less and win more is the way to go. 20 minutes later we left. It just wasn't my scene. I am rating the food because I don't really gamble. My auntie comes here a lot to play the slots and I go with to keep her company. Clean facilitates. Delicious and strong drinks and the bartenders and service staff are nice and willing to accommodate. I love the R'burger, the meat and seasoned fries are phenomenal and it is filling enough for you to have leftovers. They also use really good pickles. I don't really like the flatbread pizza so I wouldn't recommend it. But the burgers and drinks are amazing. I have had the Rosie's punch! Wow was this fun! *Please keep in mind that if you have been to another gaming center and/or a "Casino", this may not knock your socks off.* For me, this was my first time getting to experience all the lights and slots; so I was won over at the door. It cost nothing to enter, just have your I.D. in hand and be prepared to walk through metal detectors or being scanned with a handheld metal detector. After entering I cashed out $25 to start the festivities. Playing a few slots and even entered in a few bids. I didn't try any of the food because I had ate before going pero the food smelled amazing and the pricing was very wallet friendly. The restrooms were huge and very clean! Shockingly there was a smoking section; and I was so shocked to see because the place did NOT smell like cigarette smoke! I used to love going to Rosie's. Over the last few months it has not been worth the time to go. They have an enormous amount of inoperable machines, the Pay out/ATM Kiosks are always down. it's hard to find one working and when you do the line is extremely long because it's the only one working. For gamblers this is the only place that's LEGAL to gamble and I would rather take the 1 1/2 hour drive to Portsmouth or 1 hr 45 min drive to MGM in MD than go to Rosie's. They are inching out every chance of a casino to come to Richmond but they hardly have any machines working in their gaming emporium. Get it together Rosie's. I've been looking for something new to do and remembered that this place existed. I decided to come by here on a Friday night around 9pm. The parking lot was pretty full because of the neighboring businesses like PBR and the Guy Fieiri restaurant but I was able to get a spot not too far from the entrance. After I made it inside there was a security check, I was searched with a wand from head to toe and then continued my way in. I made my way to the front desk where I would get registered for one of those cards that I'd enter into the machine when I play. That process took less than 5 mins to do then I was off to wander the floor. There were lots of machines and I took my time walking around looking for a machine that seemed interesting. The first machine I got on was "The Big Green Money Machine", that machine had like $1 minimum bets and I spent a little time on that winning some and losing some. The staff members were great walking around taking drink orders and I placed a drink order for a bourbon on the rocks and that was 4 bucks. After that machine I walked around some more and saw there was a gaming section for smokers that is separated by doors and a High Limit section.. I walked in and walked right out of that one, i ain't got that kinda monies. Also there was horse racing bets going on. I want to learn how that work, people were really into that. After I spent all my monies I went to the back where they have the dining area, i ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries and mannnn that ishh was good! They do stuff to their machines to where you can't stop spins. Which is suspect n really annoying. I've seen employees who work on the machines "play" them...which doesn't sit right. Saw an employee get a whole bonus somehow over a hundred dollars...that could've been for a patron. Not sure what they do with those tickets. I don't believe they pay out the recommended payout for jackpots and in general. And the most irritating...needing assistance and attendants walk right past you. l have been a long-time Blackcard member. I went yesterday at about noon and met up with a few friends I have made (we play the same machine every time). I did Max bet all day on the two machines and won a few jackpots. At about 8 p.m., an announcement was made that the venue was at capacity, and patrons could play only one machine at a time. However, my friends and I noted that there were plenty of machines available to include the higher roller and smoking area. There was a woman who had been watching me for a while. She asked if I was playing both machines, to which I responded yes. Please remember that by this time, playing Max, I had put thousands of dollars in each machine and there were a lot of empty machines. An employee came over and told me I could not continue to play both machines even though there were many empty machines available. I know the woman just wanted to play this particular game. I was very upset and I felt it was unfair to ask me to give up one of the machines just so she could play when there were numerous machines available. I did talk to the "manager" on duty, who said max capacity is a judgment call even though while speaking with her I pointed out numerous machines that were not being played. It's a nice place to go get food and drinks. The gaming is ok it's hard to get a bonus sometimes you can spend hundreds of dollars and get one bonus or you get a bonus and get $2/3 playing the max The show all the big winners on social media to get you there but it's like a joke. The staff most of them are friendly , the players club and cashier cage is all together therefore you have to wait in a long line most of the time to cashout a ticket. The ATM fees are now $5.99 more than most real casinos the cashout terminals are down half the time especially on Sundays. Terrible establishment and management. I won a jackpot and they refused to pay me. I've been going here for years now, I hold their highest loyalty card. Here's why let's start from the beginning.. They cracked my ID and tapped it a few months ago. Whatever no big deal. My ID still scans, it's valid and they've accepted my ID recently at CAGE to take money out of my bank account. They've done this many many times over the past few months, and I've gone there many many times with this same ID card. Few days ago used my ID card to take money off my card at the cage, no issue with my ID. Yesterday hit a jackpot and the a lot attendant refused to pay me, spoke to the floor manager, she refused, spoke to the General Manager, he did nothing. Why do you accept and ID to take money out of someone's bank account and then not use the same ID to pay some a jackpot. Spoke to Racing Commission, they agree. The manager Vincent Jordan said that I needed a valid ID, however my ID scanned VAILD by their security team, they said it was fine. Then he tried to say that I didn't need valid ID to enter, but I've seen people turned away for not having valid ID. In the 2021 Racing Commission report, Rosie's informed the Racing Commission starting July 2020 they required ID for all people entering Rosie's. THATS Rosie's Policy, they wrote and they told the Racing Commission they'd do. Meanwhile, they too are required to verify ID before allowing patrons to take money off a debit card at the cage, which I've done recently with no issue. And now that I hit a jackpot now all of a sudden when they have to pay me, they won't accept my ID. Meanwhile, today I went to the NC DMV to get a new ID since they damaged my ID, (I needed to do this anyways, but that's not the point) So at the DMV they took my NY license, my SS card and proof of residency and issued me an ID. So, that further proves that my ID WAS VALID, as it says it's valid when scanned by Rosie's security when entering the building. The notion that a casino would take someone's money to the tune of THOUSANDS, with no issue, take the same ID to enter, but the. NOT PAYOUT a Jackpot won is illegal. Now, they asked my to leave, gave me a slip I have 180 to claim it, which I will. But as I was leaving I was given a slip that was a "NO ID JACKPOT" which I have to bring back, but as I was leaving the security team called over the radio and asked the slot manager to have security "verify" my ID on the gaming slip before leaving!!!! what? Why have security "verify" my name on the gaming slip and yet call it a "NO ID JACKPOT"?!?? This place is a joke and ran by unintelligent people who make up their own rules as they go along. I do hope the Racing Commission holds them to the policies they allege in Gaming Reports that they are doing. I will go back and get my Jackpot soon, but I'll never go again, they've lost all my action, and I'm going to ensure that their policies change and they are forced to change and forced to follow the law and stop taking advantage of their patrons! read more

We visited both the Colonial downs and the Richmond. We had a nice time at both. However the Colonial Downs seemed like a newer facility and it is attached to a huge race track. The place was mostly empty but super friendly staff and super clean. We had great wins. This is a casino gaming room not a Vegas style casino resort. read more
