Heard about this place and wanted to try it out. We figured it would be fairly slow given it is a long holiday weekend and a lot of people would be out of town on vacation, but we were wrong. Good size crowd but still plenty of room and game to easily get to and play. Started off with great service at the front desk, I believe the guys name is Cleary. He was very welcoming. We explained this was our first time in and asked for recomendations. He was very friendly and cordial and explained how everything worked. At the end of the visit we realized he gave great advice that allowed us to fully enjoy our visit. The vibe and ambiance was really good and had the true arcade feel. People were laughing and having lots of fun just like us. There were people enjoying food and drinks and relaxing in groups in the dining area, playing duck pin bowling, video games including guitar hero, playing pinball, skeetball, basketball shoot and football throwing games. I mean there was real fun being had by all including us. Didn't have food but had beer and played pinball and video games. I really like the beer taps because there were a lot of choices and I tried several different ones because you pour as little or as much as you want. I did about six oz pours and tried several ones. The concept is interesting, but some games were not working properly, and the overall setup felt a bit disorganized. This place is a really cool concept for those searching for an adult arcade. The venue also features a tap room bar which I fear may become their downfall. My boyfriend and I have visited 3 times prior to me leaving this review and each time we've had issues with the tap room card readers. The advertised price per fluid ounce isn't tabulated correctly on their systems and we've been overpriced each visit. We've brought the issue up to the staff before and one of our drinks were comped but overall not a great fix if you were to bring a large group or have more than 1 or 2 beverages. Game play was good in my opinion, unless you are a fan of pinball. Respectable selection but the gameplay is subpar. Most of the machines are missing lights or key switches to story modes. Also, pinabll being $1.00 per play with some of them having no ball save and high scores required for free play. There was a decent selection of games to choose from and about 8 or 9 pinball machines which attracted us there to begin with. Most of the games are $1 to play minus ski ball for $0.25 per play. We've never tried the food but each time we've gone we have seen people enjoying a plate or two. Cleanliness: overall the arcade area is pretty clean no major problems but the restrooms were a bit subpar in my opinion. The attached photo was taken 39 min after opening and there were zyn pouches and toilet paper on the stall floor. With the amount of people present at the time I think it was safe to say the restroom was not properly cleaned the evening prior. I had an awesome time at Circuit Social! The energy was high even though I went on a weekday, which was a nice surprise. The space is a decent size for downtown, and there's no shortage of games to play--old-school arcade classics, racing, pong, and even basketball. The mini bowling was a fun touch, perfect for some friendly competition with the squad. The beer selection is fantastic, especially the local brews. I was a fan of the sours, but there's something for every taste. I loved the self-serve concept where you grab your own glass and pour your drinks. It's great for sampling a variety without committing to a full glass. As for the food, the pizza and pretzel were alright--great for satisfying those drunk munchies--but the nachos were delicious and a must-try. Seriously, don't skip them! The staff was super friendly and helpful too, so if it's your first time, definitely ask them how the play card works. They're happy to explain. Went here Saturday around 9:30 PM. I wouldn't say it was packed, but they definitely had a good amount of people inside. We were able to get a free game of duckpin bowling when we signed up with our email on the website, so that was cool. They have a good selection of arcade games to choose from as well as the duckpin bowling. We didn't order any food because we ate before we got there, but we did try some drinks from the beer/cider/wine wall. The drinks do you add up very quickly, so you def have to watch the total bill amount on the screen while you're pouring so you don't spend too much. I give the drinks 6/10 I tried a white sangria and the caramel apple cider. We averaged our drinks to about $7-$8 each; where each time we only filled the glass to half way. I'd consider the $ per ounce to be a little expensive. Would've been cool if they had an actual drink menu with some cocktails to order and not just the drink wall. My fiancé and I LOVE this place and have been here so many times already. I honestly don't know why I haven't reviewed it sooner. If it weren't for us living across the bridge, we would probably come around here more often. The place offers a great wall that offers beer, wine, and cider options. I've seen the alcoholic options change time and time again and with respect to every season, so you get to try new things every time. They got retro arcades (including the good ol' DDR and--as of recently--2 Guitar Hero machines, which are super hard to find in most arcades) and more modern arcade machines. They also have pinball machines for the pinball enthusiasts out there. And you can pay extra for a mini bowling alley with friends. Although there have been a few defunct machines, most of them work as they should. The staff is really friendly, so it probably doesn't hurt to ask for help when your credits get taken by a semi-broken machine. They also serve food. You order from a screen and get a buzzer. However, the 2 or 3 times we've eaten there, our order was either wrong or took forever, and the guys in the kitchen never seem too keen on interacting with the customers either. I'd say you're better off getting a meal elsewhere. The place is in the heart of downtown Norfolk, just walking distance from other bars, restaurants, and the mall. The Good: I really enjoy coming here. Great drinks, fun games, and an overall good environment. They have a solid selection, and the prices are pretty fair. Our whole group spent about $10 each and we were there for a couple of hours. The staff was very nice--except for the guy at the food counter, who couldn't even look you in the eye. The Bad: The bathroom was gross, with dust on the doors and stains on the walls. The food was terrible. We got the chicken patty, fries, and a pretzel with beer cheese. Visiting town and decided to try this place out after attending one of the first Friday concerts. When we walked in there's a few seats to the side and a cashier area. If you are over 21, you have to show your id and they give you a yellow wristband. I'm assuming this is to separate those who can drink vs those who cannot. Anyway we walked around and there were a good bit of different games available. It isn't a huge arcade(if that's what you are looking for). I love playing air hockey, and their version was in the shape of a boomerang. This made it a little harder to score, but still fun nonetheless. Some of my family members appreciated some of the older arcade games available, as it reminded them of their childhood. My uncle was so good at one game, he had the new high score. Basketball game was fun, but all the stalls didn't have the same amount of balls which was frustrating. Also, there was a liquor wall where you could taste different drinks and you pay by the ounce. I only knew about this because I've been to a place with something similar. I'm not sure if you have to have a band or how it works. The workers didn't tell you much about the place. I feel like when you walk in they should tell you about the alcohol wall, how to do the mini bowling, and what to do if you want to order food/where to find a menu. This place is good but definitely for kids. They have duck pin bowling and admission is old school stamp on your wrist to designate if you're of drinking age or not. You have to wait for staff to get started on bowling, they weren't busy but there was a wait for staff to come! I was pleasantly surprised with my evening here! The games were fun & the drinks were delicious. I didn't try their food because I had my heart set on pizza from down the block. I was initially overwhelmed as the music is pretty loud when you first walk in & the lady at the desk was a super fast talker. You preload a card with money & scan it to play each game. There were lots of game options even for someone who doesn't play many arcade games! Skeeball, guitar hero, air hockey, racing, etc. The same card you preload for games is also used for drinks. We arrived when they opened there was this intense burnt smell that hits you immediately upon entering...that was a little alarming. Check in was easy, the person at the front was very nice. Circuit Social is a great place to come and hangout with friends (or by yourself) and have a good time at an affordable price. Games range in price from $.25 to $1 per play. The more popular/newer games were more expensive, but a lot of the retro games were only $.25 per play. We loaded our cards up with $10 and that was enough money for about a hour's worth of gaming ranging from shooters and pinball, to DDR and skeeball. The only issue I ran into with the games was that the guns for shooters weren't calibrated which took some of the fun out of the experience. All the beer is self-pour, and there are enough beer options to suit anyone's taste. I use to really enjoy this place but it's seems like it's really fallen off. There are at least 12 machines broke or out of service and the shooting games weren't properly calibrated. I played 3 pinball machines and none had sound on so that was awkward as lights and sounds is a big appeal of pinball (and at $1 a game missing a core component is a huge miss). I came from Chesapeake to spend some time here but left after 10 minutes and opted to walk around instead. Perhaps if the maintenance is slow on the machines putting in less mechanic options (darts, billiards, bocce, shuffleboard etc) might be a good pivot to make get this place back up to where it was when it first opened. read more

What a gem of a spot!!!! Decided to check this barcade out while visiting Norfolk and it was so much fun. You get a card you load up to play games (0.25-$1 ish per game) and also use it for a beer wall. They had so many OG arcade games to play including the original DDR. I felt so nostalgic while here. They also gave me an additional $5 on my card for being a health care worker. Looking for some wholesome fun while we killed an hour before our show started at Push Comedy, we found Circuit Social on Yelp. As first timers we needed the run down of how to order drinks and load our game cards. The ladies were very helpful. We loaded our game cards, mine with a $25 initial deposit, and Nye's with $10 strictly for gaming. After grabbing my self service Stella Artois (using game card to pay), we headed over to the skee ball machines, so nostalgic! Then some hoops, Nye' whooped my butt and had some fun trying to beat the high score on the machine. Lastly we shot up some Zombies, hit the restrooms and headed out. Check out was simple. Circuit Social is a really fun place to hang out and play games. It is kind of unique concept. They have a wall of beer where you can chose amongst dozens and pour the amount you want, then a lot of games. The selection of games was great, with something almost anyone would love. They are pretty affordable as well, our money seemed to go far. However this seems like a high volume place, where a lot of the games were kind of worn down and some did not work great. It was still really fun. Then there are beers for almost any taste. It can be a little confusing to know how much you are paying, but it did not seem expensive. There is a huge variety games including all of the old school faves like pac man, Mario, mortal kombat, donkey Kong etc. it was nostalgic! I will say the taps are kind of expensive. $24 for a glass of cheap wine and a glass of beer! We have been here a few times while visiting Virginia and this last time we went quite a few of games broken and weren't working correctly. Besides that we always have fine even though the drinks and games are a little pricey. The best part is that you get a card and you can pour your own drink so you can get as little or as much of that beer/wine as you want. You get charged per oz which is pretty neat. This place has really fallen off over time. I would love to bring friends and family here whenever they come to visit the area but I'm starting to regret it. Half of the games were broken, and some of the 4 player multiplayer games had only 2 joysticks working. 2 of the 4 basketball hoops worked and I think only 2 of the skee ball machines worked. When it came to shooting games none of the guns would register on the screen. Another unpleasant experience happened because of the kitchen. Whatever the kitchen staff was cooking... I mean burning, was smoking up the building causing my eyes to burn. The beer selection was ok, but that's about the only positive I got out of the experience there unfortunately. read more

Came here with some friends recently and enjoyed myself. First, the game selection is solid, although it seemed like at least one card reader on most of the machines was broken. Since we had 4 people wanting to play the games, it was kind of deflating when most of the machines couldn't accommodate all of us at the same time. The "get your own draft beer from the wall" idea was pretty cool for sure. I only helped myself to one beer but I could definitely imagine coming back and trying more :) We also played skee ball and did some duckpin bowling, and both of those were fun. I'll start by saying some stuff was really nice and then there were others who were not. Someone who worked in the kitchen was very sarcastic, we were trying to understand the process for ordering food and he wasn't helpful at all. We had to go back to the front desk and they realized they gave us the wrong card. Once we did get the food it didn't taste good. We played duckpin bowling which was fun, we had a couple of issues with the system glitching but we still had a good time. We played arcade games and those were fun but I would say at least 1/4 games weren't working. We had to take turns instead of doing multiplayer options. The positive is that the games are very cost effective in contrast to most arcades. Again we made the best of it and had a good time. The ambiance was open, creative, and casual. There were kids and adults there. There are stations for beers and ciders that I think adults would enjoy. Especially at night. I would recommend, I just would hope that the games are fixed before coming, if you're looking for something specific. read more

So, the barcade fad seems to be spreading around the peninsula, and Circuit Social is in on the scene. I stopped in here with some friends for dinner to check it out a few weeks ago. When you enter, you sign up for a card/tab at the front desk, and then from there, everything is self-serve. If you want food, you find a kiosk and order it, then they page you sort of like they would at a Panera to pick it up. There are a variety of beers on tap that you can self-pour, which is kind of cool. The not so good -- it really is ONLY a beer joint. There are like two wines on tap - a sweet one and a dry red, which isn't exactly great for someone like me. I tried a bit of the dry red and it was drinkable, but certainly not memorable. My friend and I ordered some food -- I got the boneless chicken wings because they were out of basic chicken tenders. She got the fish sandwich. It took a LONG time for us to get food, and it wasn't even that busy. The wings were okay - a good portion of sauce, and the meat wasn't bad. My friend's sandwich was supposed to come with coleslaw and didn't, so she had to ask for it only to find out they were out of that too. So they did a substitution for her when she asked. We didn't end up doing any of the games because they had karaoke going on, which was more fun for us. Overall, it's a good space in a nice location. It's kid friendly before 9 p.m. which is also nice. But the food, service, and selection are really just average. Basically like a Chuck E Cheese for adults I guess. Such a fun place to visit! Can't believe I haven't gotten here quicker. This is the perfect place to hang out with friends, date night, first date, or just to get out of the house! Came here around 8pm which was great before it got too packed. There aren't too many seats around, but they do have a seating area near the entrance & where the food is sold. Heard the food wasn't a fan favorite so I'd suggest eating before coming which is easy due to its location right on granby. It's perfect! I liked how patient the employees were with a big party when it came to setting up a mini bowling game. A little confusing with the cost & cards situation, but it was figured out and we got our lanes in a timely fashion after being on the wait list. 4.5 rounded down only because some games were tweaking and it was hard to find an employee to fix them. Also, it got pretty packed after 9pm so there were small waits for some games & you feel as though you're in the way just standing there. Great fun and worth the visit. read more

I recently checked out Circuit Social when I took my old college roommate out there for his birthday. We stopped in the night before Memorial Day (5/26/19) and I was pleasantly surprised to see they weren't busy. As you may already know, Circuit Social is a barcade - an arcade for adults where you can enjoy beer and wine while playing throwback video games. I believe Circuit Social originated in Richmond and they built this one in Downtown Norfolk, mere feet from MacArthur Mall. What makes them appealing is the 40+ taps available with various beers and wines. It is amazing for the connoisseurs and helps makes losing to your friends less painful (haha). One thing - you have to use a card for booze/food and another card for games. In order to get the cards you purchase a dollar amount at one of their front desks (employees are there to assist you), then you can go around gallivanting to your heart's content. It's a different system than what Ghent's Pixels uses (I'm partial to Pixels' system), but at least it's an organized way of keeping track of your spending. Just in case, there are card readers scattered about to provide the remaining amount(s) on your card(s). I can't tell you much about the food since I didn't try any during my 2 visits. But I took a glance at their offerings and it is of the snack variety. And if you're wondering, there is a small banquet room available for private parties. My second visit on 9/13/19 was for a birthday party, so we had the room to ourselves and the birthday "man" hooked his party up with $10 gaming cards. I came here for a social work event and really enjoyed the old school video games I played as a kid in the 90s. I think the self serve selections of beer on tap is very unique and I have never seen that anywhere else. Their food is very basic, so when I came back for a date night with my husband we ate somewhere else and then came here to play games together. It is regular bar food, it is not bad, just not something I'm usually enjoy. I feel like you game credits go much further here than places like Dave and busters that charge much more per game. I really enjoyed playing Frogger for 25 cents a game over and over. Great time, I would return. I don't think I would bring my kids here, the atmosphere is more designed for adults. They also have basketball and football machines. There's also a couple of lanes for mini golf. You will get a prepaid card when you check-in. This card can be used for games and drinks. The price for the games are pretty cheap. Some are 25 cents, but there are also some that are about $1. We put $5 on our card and we were able to play with a lot of games for an hour. The drinks are tap. You need to use the card to get drinks. They have ciders, beers, and wines. Since I am not a fan of those three alcohol drinks I decided to pass on that. The prices for the drinks can build up, but you can always reload your card or get an open tab. They also serve food such as burgers and wings. This place is definitely fun and enjoyable. I love that Downtown Norfolk has it's very own nostalgic arcade with self serve taps. I went a couple of times with friends and enjoyed every minute of it. There are two things that set it apart from my experiences at the other arcade in Norfolk (Pixels). One is that they don't use tokens, they use a Dave and Busters style card with a balance. Two is that all of their machines have drink holders to prevent beverages from being spilled onto the machines which ruin the mechanics of the machines. When I went to Pixels I was dropping tokens everywhere and half the machines I wanted to play had wonky controls because everybody was spilling their beer all over the machines. What I love about Circuit Social is that most of the older games are only 25¢ to 50¢, so if you load your card up with about $10 to $20 you have more than enough money on your card to complete a full run of your favorite games. Which was a pivotal problem of arcades in the 90s. For the first time ever, I was able to beat The Simpsons Game as well as Marvel Vs. Capcom, and it felt amazing! I only have two criticisms of Circuit Social. One dealing with the self serve tap and the other with the selection of games. When you pull the tap, you're responsible for paying for every single drop that comes out of the tap, even the beer that spills because the taps move a bit fast. As for the selection of games, a great nostalgic mix, but when I compare to arcades I've seen in other cities with both nostalgic and contemporary (ex: Streer Fighter V & Injustice 2) Circuit Social could step their game up a little. Circuit is a nice little barcade in Norfolk that has a sister barcade originating in RVA. Nice place however! This is definitely an upgrade from the original one due to its location. I gotta hand it to them and dem pretzels. HUGE. Definitely can be used as a necklace. I would not recommend it to be used as a ring for ring toss. The weight distribution isn't right. I love using the DDR machine here because it feels hidden enough that you can play it multiple times, but enough views that people can see you play well. This place was more than ok, and I am a definite fan! An adult arcade with true classic arcade games with cheap prices. "Dave & Buster's" who? This place rocks! From the helpful game host, to the beer AND wine on tap, duck pick bowling, pin ball machines AND Dance Dance Revolution! I dont know where to start, so I guess I will start with when we entered. The Circuit Social host was above and beyond helpful when we entered. She thoroughly explained how everything worked, and that we can do pre funded game cards and a tab for food and drink. I came with my 3 kids, so I gave them each a $10 game card and put the food and drinks on a tab. First I will say, do not go here hungry expecting a 5 course meal. The menu is more finger foods, movie theatre type options. This is something I did not expect, so it left more to be desired. The many different beers and wine on tap was exciting. There were prices per ounce listed above each. There were about 6 ciders on tap as well. I am not a huge beer drinker but I do enjoy the occasional cider. This was a treat to be able to taste all the ciders they had on tap. As I went down the line checking out all the options, I noticed Sangria on tap as well. I got ultimately excited and fell in love in that moment. As my kids ran from game to game, enjoying themselves, there were a few games that were unresponsive to the swipe of the game card. We had to track down a worker to fix the issue. The way they fix the issue isnt to give you money back on your card. They simply give you a free game with a swipe of their card. I have been to Circuit Social multiple times for date night with my husband. I have not tried the food or bowling so I can't speak on that, but if you like beer/cider and games, this place is for you. This place can become crowded over the weekend and toward the later hours but it doesn't get too congested where its unenjoyable. My favorite part about this place is the self-serve taps. There's a large selection of craft beer, wine, and ciders. The prices for games are also very reasonable. For me, $20 is more than enough for 2 people to have a good time. I knocked off one star because each time I've come, there's always a couple of games that aren't working (and they tend to be my favorite games). read more

The cheapest and most fun arcade I have ever been to! Forget Round 1, Dave & Busters, and even Chuck E. Cheese. This is the place to go (if you're in Virginia). They have this super cool tap bar where you get to pull the beer you want & however much you want! For the games, they have a bunch of retro ones such as Pac-man, pinball machines, DDR, etc. They also have basketball, mini bowling, and ski ball! All games/ machines range from 25 cents to $1. My boyfriend and I put in $20 each and it lasted us like 2 hours! Such a fun place for friends and for date night! read more
