Nestled along the highway between Salem and Sisters on OR-22 is a quaint little coffee house pushing out some serious eats. I'm not really sure why the ratings for this place aren't higher but I think it deserves a solid four stars. The staff were friendly, the place was clean, the coffee was good, and the pastries were delicious. We bought of bunch of pastries and quiches to go. They didn't make it very far. My little one, who doesn't even like eggs, enjoyed his quiche dish. My only request is for a counter with Tapatio or an assortment sauces for the food. Otherwise, this place is a go! read more

The severs were really friendly. My family stops here on the way to Clear Lake. The first time we stopped I wanted the Veggie Breakfast Burrito, but it was out. I asked the lady working behind the counter about it and she made it for me. The service was quick and the food has always been warm. The food is decent price. The chocolate banana smoothie was chocolatey and bananay. The ambiance is cute, it makes it feel like its namesake, a mountain cafe/ coffee house. Rather surprised by the no so great reviews here since we had a great time at this cute little spot on our way back to Portland. The inside is decorated warmly and smells of freshly ground coffee (aka the best smell). They got a wide variety of drinks, bakeries, and food on offer at very friendly prices. The Mocha Frappe was creamy and delicious. I love its velvety texture. Their White Chocolate Raspberry Scone was also fantastic. Crunchy on the outside but still super moist and tender on the inside. We stopped by Rosie's while staying in Detroit Lake. I am shocked they don't have more stars - it was phenomenal. So cute and quaint. My husband had an iced London fog latte and I had an iced peppermint vanilla latte. The coffee was strong, flavorful, and the perfect amount of sweet. We both got bacon breakfast burritos at the recommendation of the barista. We also got a green goddess muffin (zucchini, apple, and blueberry) at her recommendation. Each time we head across the Santiam Pass we try to stop at Rosie's for coffee or tea and a nosh to tide us over. And, OK, also to use the nice clean bathrooms at this most friendly local place. We normally take our beverages and food to go as we always seem to be on a schedule. But the warm and sparkling homey interior of Rosie's has also been a good place to unwind and eat in on a couple of occasions when it was cold and snowy outside. Not to mention the neat little (as in tiny) front porch has some outdoor seating in the summer. Rosie's claim to fame is scones and sweet baked goods, but sweets here are not what we aim for. We always have our sights set on one or more of the following options... ...a slice of quiche (they make different types all the time and always a vegetarian option), ...soup (depending on what kind it is that's simmering that day), ...potato salad (which can't be beat) or ...top notch broccoli salad (with chopped nuts and dried cranberries). Everything is house made and yummy. Coffee and tea are served nice and hot. Quiche and soup come good and warm. And the salads are perfectly chilled. If you're ordering a sandwich, you'll have a short wait at peak periods. This is not a "production" shop, but a small local place and keeping up with the orders can be a challenge for the nice staff sometimes. When we first started stopping at Rosie's, maybe ten years ago, it was as if it was our little secret...always room in their little parking lot and seldom more than a couple of people inside placing orders. Now it seems the lot is very often full and there is a line at the counter. Good for Rosie's! They've been discovered. Another good for them note for Yeeps and other peeps who need to know about accessibility before stopping, Rosie's has accessible (aka ADA) parking in their lot, striped for folks who might need wheelchair ramp to exit a vehicle. They also have an accessible entry and the order and dining area is accessible too. The loo should work for wheelchair access as well, it seems to me (has grab bars and lots of floor space) although the pathway to get there might be a tad narrow unless someone moves stored things (like child booster chairs) out of the way. read more

Scones good enough to make a grown woman cry, Allann Brothers coffee and gourmet sandwiches all housed in a cute yellow farmhouse. One of the true small town delights on our way to and from Central Oregon. The Gobbler is my favorite sandwich and I always grab a marionberry scone or two for the road. Mill City is a very small place, but it is the best stop for food and drinks between Salem and Detroit Lake. They have some tables on the front porch, but no table service so head inside and place your order. They have a few other food and gift items, including jewelry and aprons for sale. Well worth the stop for lunch. Quick friendly service. Really good deli selections and homemade salad and soups. This is more than a coffee house. Lots of parking, seating out door and in. I ordered 1/2 of a roast beef sandwich on ciabatta roll. Really good, but a little small. This also included a small bowl of tomato basil soup. Delicious. Why did we venture back? The restrooms are clean. The coffee is good. They actually had muffins today, which is unusual. People who work here are not friendly. They look irritated to see you. They never say thank you. No eye contact and only talk to each other or people they know from the area. You might end up here anyway. The options are limited. After being confused by extremely differing reviews we decided to take a chance on Rosie's. So glad we did! We've zoomed past here on trips between WA and Bend before, but just happened to be hungry this time. We were NOT disappointed! And to save time, we can ditto all the good reviews. As for the bad ones, we lucked out and only met St George and the Cook as there was no sign of the Dragon Lady anywhere! BUSY! At 2:00 in the afternoon when most little places hit a lull, this place was hopping! Hubby and I ordered the Roast Beef Melt to split (so we could save room for the desserts we read about) but wished we had each ordered our own because it was SO good! We split a cinnamon roll that HE thought was great but I thought was kind of dry with way too much icing. Wasn't bad enough to dock one of the stars though, because this place deserves all 5! I also got an Americano. I'm a Starbucks fan so I like strong coffee. This did not offend me. It was PERFECT! We also got a Lemon Blueberry Scone "for later". But an hour down the road (after we got cell service again), our curiosity got the best of us and we broke into the scone. It was the BEST one we've ever had, and now it's gone :( We'll certainly "plan" to be hungry next time we come this way...or at least grab something for later! ;) read more

I will start with I absolutely love stopping here. I stop on my way to Bend or Sisters monthly. Sometimes, more. The scones and the coffee are great! The customer service is usually spot on. However, after my visit today, I will reconsider stopping again. I was served by a woman who made me feel extremely uncomfortable and was very rude. I had been bragging about how much I loved this place and couldn't wait to take my boyfriend there to see this place I had been talking about. But, sadly, we had a bad experience today. The woman working was training a young girl and showed how stressed out she was by being rude to us. My latte was made very poorly and she did not listen to our order. Instead snapping at me for not knowing exactly what I wanted. Im sad that was my experience at my happy place. I will consider stopping if someone else is working the counter. But, will walk out of she is serving. I shouldn't be made to feel bad when ordering the food and drink I'm excited about. read more

Usually have a high opinion of Rosie's. Just picked up a ham & swiss and an americano for the rest of my drive home from Bend and my bread is sooo stale. Also, it's supposed to be sourdough, but seems to just be stale white bread. No crusty deliciousness. I guess stale serves as crusty. Coffee's good, though. OK -- it was so bad that I went back and told them about it and got another half. They seemed a bit surly about it. And the bread wasn't much (any?) better. Not kid friendly. We were looking forward to coming back to Rosie's, as we come each time we are in Oregon, this time we had our 1 year old daughter with us and had a very awkward experience. The food and coffee looked great, local customers were sweet but we were scolded by an employee for letting our daughter play with a small, empty wicker basket she had found on a bottom shelf. We would have been happy to put the basket back and think nothing of it however the guy was incredibly rude about it. We won't be coming back. read more

Nasty bad. Seemed like all the ingredients used were the absolute cheapest options possible. E.g., the "cranberry sauce" on the Gobbler sandwich was straight up jam. That sandwich almost made me gag, and then I felt weird for a couple hours afterward. And it was $7.50 (!) for deli sliced turkey, cranberry jam, mayo and lettuce on a croissant that would never pass as such anywhere else. My dad ordered a latte, and couldn't even finish it, so the coffee isn't necessarily safe either. Best part of the experience was when the waitress yelled my name, waited a split second and screeched it again, incorrectly this time. The dining area is *maybe* 200 sqft and everyone else had their food, so it was pretty clear it was meant for our table... Yikes. Unfortunately, there's not a lot to choose from in the area, but we plan to try the Sierra Mexican Restaurant on our drive back to Portland later this week. read more

This a nice place. The coffee was good. 8/10 Clean, indoor & outdoor seating, big cups for the price. There Is a nice selection of homemade scones pastries, & salads. I tried the Cranberry Orange scone and and Americano. This is the place to come for a good cup coffee and maybe a bite to eat. But I really felt like the staff was a 3 out of 5. The owner/manager was training a new person. There were 2 other staff there as well. Accept to take my order, there was no interaction from the staff. I guess I am used to the Dutch Brothers experience. I like when people seem glad you came to "thier" coffee place. No eye contact from anyone and there is just enough room for 4 people to stand behind the counter there. It is my preference to interact with "local" businesses because it is personal to me. I could see that the woman training the other, cared. I can see it in the products that I consumed. But people are why I am loyal, 4.5/5 for the products. 3/5 for the missed opportunity to connect.
