Raspberry Scone. Cinnamon Roll. Lemon Berry Knot. Some kind of cream cheese Danish. But what was even better than some of the best pastries we have had? The hospitality. Michael took such care in getting to know us as we were out of towners stopping into Lebanon just for these pastries! He sent us home with a chocolate danish and a cherry turnover as well. The cherries were wild, picked fresh from the bushes along the Columbia River. You're kidding right? WOW! Just wow. The pastries were amazing, the conversation even better.

Thank you, Michael for our delicious baked goods!

Impromptu stop at this cute local bakery shop while we were killing time. I initially thought there would be generic baked goods, but we ended up leaving with 2 boxes with plans to return again. They had a variety of unique baked goods, which included a beef & cabbage bun (not pictured). It was one of our favorites and I am constantly wishing we got more than 1 to share between my husband and I. Michael, who is the owner of Hazella Bake Shop spoke with every person in line who came in. I overheard some of the conversations, and he remembered every local's typical order, their name, and even the conversations they last spoke about when they visited. He also took the time to get to know visitors, including us! You can tell this was more than just a business for him. Based on some reviews I read prior to writing mine, this place is very popular and tends to sell out before closing. They sell coffee and tea, it's very simple but the baked goods and atmosphere itself was very memorable. Thanks for serving Lebanon and the surrounding areas!

I was in Lebanon for my cousin's ceremony and my Airbnb host highly recommended this place. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking and there's a small lot too. Seating: Inside and outside seating. Relatively small maybe room for four groups that can accommodate about 20-30 people. Vibes: Lebanon is a very small-town place, it seems like everybody knows each other. The presence in Hazella Bake Shop was welcoming, hardworking, and clean. The decor is simple with minimal flower-decored walls and wooden tables. It's a great place to sit, chat, or grab on the go. FOOD: Strawberry Shortcake (Recommend) Now if you had to get one thing it would be this. This is Lebanon's signature right here and Hazella represents it very well. Blessed with numerous flavors, sweetness, and textures. The strawberry was fresh and sweet, the icing and whipped cream played a nice creamy duo and the shortbread had a nice neutralizing savory yet cinnamony kick to things. Cinammon Bun (Recommend) From my understanding, the difference between a roll and a bun is a roll is sweeter. Their cinnamon buns were delicious. A nice big bun that balanced the dough and cinnamon relatively well. The rock salts helped activate the cinnamon flavors. Naken Street Dog (Recommend) For something savory, this is your best bet. A delicious hot dog wrapped in a flaky savory pastry and surrounded with flavorful caramelized onions. Danish Pastry - Blackberry (Recommend) Delicious! A rich portion of blackberries with flakey layers of bread and stuffed with sweet cream cheese. Raspberry Strudel (Recommend) Your more typical presentation but still delicious delivery of a baked good. Good raspberry jam with a mix of cream cheese all held together with sweet bread. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Ruby was awesome! It was a busy morning rush but she handled like a pro. Interacting with her, she certainly knew her dishes. I later then met the owners, Rebecca and Michael, sweet people! TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. Amazing! This place embodies the Lebanon motto, "The city that friendliness built". From their friendly interactions to the quality of effort they put in their baked goods. It's not easy to be consistent so props to them. I really enjoyed this place - delicious bites, reasonable prices, and certainly a memorable experience. If Lebanon is on your way, treat yourself here at this spot. Best wishes to Rebecca, Michael, and the Hazella Baking team. I look forward to seeing y'all again! TIPS: * They have two different menus, stuff for breakfast and stuff for the afternoons. All good choices!

Charming bakery we heard about, almost sold out before closing. We were still able to try a few nibbles. Delicious! Ruby and company are delightful- welcoming and chatty. Her style will make her a successful life! Environment is clean and tidy and cared for. 5 stars for quality baked goods, charming personalities interested in customers, and obvious value of cleanliness! Go early! Closes at 1pm.

Hands-down best bakery I've ever been to! They have both sweet and savory pastries, and I have yet to be disappointed by anything I got. Some of my favorites that I've tried - apple hand pie, cinnamon roll, sticky bun, potato knish, beef bierock, strawberry cream croissant (pictured). When you walk into the shop, you can tell that this bakery is a staple in our community. The staff is super sweet and the owner, Micheal, goes the extra mile to make sure everyone feels welcome. They even had a Thanksgiving dinner for students in the area that couldn't go home for the holidays. Truly a special place and worth getting up early to visit! After I finish medical school, I probably won't live in Lebanon anymore, but I will always stop by Hazella's when passing through. Until then, it is my favorite study spot!

    Michael's delight

Service was 5 stars, hospitality was 6 stars, The baked goods were out of this world! Overall experience was outstanding because of the owner of the store. He made us feel welcome and not only did he ask us about our day but he takes the time to check in with everyone who comes into his bake shop. I can tell this is more than a business for him and he genuinely loves what him and his family have created. Thank you Michael for a memorable experience.

What a nice friendly place with high quality pastries (both sweet and savory). We really enjoyed getting many things and sharing them. Michael the owner was so hospitable and friendly. He was very genuinely happy for each customer to be there and was so friendly and proud of his products. It's an inviting place to meet up with friends or share a sweet treat with family. It's beautiful inside.

A savory ham and cheese and in the background, a strawberry rhubarb delight.

Such an amazing bakery. The chefs and owners, Michael and Rebecca, are super special people.

We also recalled that there was some connection to Gerry Frank's Konditorei in Salem, which immediately caught our interest. After doing a little research, we discovered there's a deep and fascinating history linking the two businesses. The Lovin Oven began in 1983, when founder Doreen Helmemn operated the bakery out of her home. In 1993, the business expanded into a small storefront in downtown Stayton after being purchased by Mike and Valerie Schultz. Mike, who was formerly a logger, was personally taught cake decorating by the original founder, an origin story that adds to the bakery's charm and authenticity. One of the most interesting details we learned is that The Lovin Oven is the primary baker for Gerry Frank's Konditorei in Salem, a partnership that dates back to the 1980s. That relationship grew even stronger in 2017, when the Schultzes became co-owners of the Konditorei. Many people enjoying desserts at high-end restaurants throughout the region may not realize that their cakes were baked in Stayton. The Lovin Oven is especially well known for its Champagne Raspberry cake, Marionberry cheesecake, and an impressive variety of gourmet bars and cookies. Their menu also includes cakes, cheesecakes, cinnamon rolls, brownies, cupcakes, and more, something for just about every dessert preference. The bakery itself is housed in an industrial-style building that includes the production bakery, a storefront, and a small seating area where you can enjoy your treats on site. The outside is a unique with a black painted brick exterior. The customer facing area of the inside is industrial. We picked up a selection of cupcakes to take to dinner and were quickly back on the road. The cupcakes were a hit, everyone loved them, and they disappeared fast. It felt great to share something local with such a rich backstory. Overall, this was a fantastic experience, and we're glad we stopped. If you find yourself passing through Stayton or looking for high-quality desserts in the Willamette Valley, The Lovin Oven is absolutely worth checking out.
