This coffee shop has personality and there are a lot of things to look at all around. Great seating areas offered inside and outside. I ordered a latte and it was very good. I enjoyed it outside on a beautiful summer day. Friendly service. Street parking. Please come and create your own adventure.

Fun and quirky place to hang out. The bagel with lox was delicious and so filling. Definitely going back to try the other interesting options.

Nice coffee good however I don't understand why there's assignment says cocktails here when there's no cocktails? Apparently they only do it on like special occasions which is cool but please advertise that you don't mess with people's plans

First time trying this lil shop, and i loved it. I walked in and felt like i was in Portland. It's super cute and retro in here. Order a hot maple spice latte and it was heaven!

Everything I've tried here has been great. I've tried a few coffees but always go back to the chai. The lily is my go to sandwich but the Maggie's farm sandwich is great and vegetarian. The service is generally pretty fast, especially if it isn't a busy time. The ambience is casual, it's nice to bring a book but it can get a little loud when it's full. They have a handful of seating, upstairs, downstairs and outside with umbrellas

Take out | Lunch | $1-10 A cozy coffee shop that's been here for ages and is great for meeting a friend or camping out with a book or your laptop. They have baked goodies, a varied coffee selection, and live music during certain times.

The "Gov Cup" is consistent and usually a great vibe. Service is usually with a smile and genuine vibe. Definitely a downtown Salem staple!

Very fun coffee shop! Staff was very friendly. The shop is located right in the middle of downtown Salem so it's a nice place to stop if you're out shopping. They offer live music and display local artwork in their walls for sale! I got a bagel and an americano, both came out very quickly and were delicious!

This is my kid's favorite place to chill on a Sunday morning and get some homework done, and she brings me along when I'm visiting. I really enjoy the atmosphere here, friendly and welcoming. I like the upstairs area for seating, and the coffee and bagel sandwiches are pretty darn good. My favorite is the one with strawberries, bacon and goat cheese - it is very filling, so worth the high price. The staff is always friendly and the vibe is super chill.

Friendly. Fun atmosphere. Busy but they keep it moving. Options to get it to go or in regular drinkware to enjoy in the shop. There are a few seatings available outside on the sidewalk and a small upper level inside. We enjoyed our hot chocolate and Mexican mocha drinks.

It's been long enough that it's time for an updated review on this cozy little gem of a place in the heart of Salem. The ambiance is still exactly what you want out of a coffee shop whether you're meeting up with a friend for coffee or bringing your laptop for some work/study time. Cool decor, a variety of seating options, and friendly staff. You can't really go wrong when choosing this as your coffee shop stop... or can you? As someone who considers my solo coffee shop dates to be one of my favorite ways to spend my time, I'm going to get into the details of what separates the Gov Cup from other coffee shops I enjoy visiting in both the good ways and the not as favorable ways. First of all, the coffee itself is delicious and the prices are what you'd expect - so if you're just looking to get a coffee and enjoy a more cozy/eclectic and homey vibe then this is a great option for you! They have bakery items in a display case, though I haven't tried them so no comment to be made there. When it comes to the rest of their breakfast, which is mostly if not only bagel sandwiches and loaded toasts. These items are servers until 2pm Pros: - good variety of options (not just your typical bacon/sausage/ham with egg and cheese) - vegan and vegetarian options - your choice of a Spielman bagel (yUM) My dilemma when it comes to the food options is that while there are a lot of options, and a lot of them sound good, I found myself following the consideration of each option that could my attention with "but wait, this one doesn't have ___" For example, I'd see one that sounded good but then it wouldn't have egg on it or it wouldn't have bacon on it. The lady at the counter was super friendly, and she informed me that you can add egg, bacon, or anything to any sandwich. Although the sandwiches are already a little spendy for their size. I understand it's because of the variety of ingredients that they use, and I love that they do so because I'm someone who wants to incorporate fruits/veggies into every meal, but it does make for an expensive little sandwich (~$12 or more unless you get a basic breakfast sandwich for $10). For comparison, Archive right around the corner has a breakfast sandwich with veggies for $12 that is larger and more filling. All of that being said regarding the food, the sandwiches don't miss. I'm sure that they're all super good, and they taste like they use fresh local ingredients. Not a very realistic price for just anyone's "frequent coffee stop" if that coffee stop involves more than just coffee though. Overall, the Gov Cup just feels like a staple of downtown Salem. It's warm and inviting, which makes it especially enjoyable in the long, gloomy, cold months we have here in the valley. Hope this place is here to stay for many many more years!

    So nice!

Stopped by on our way to Portland to check out the capital building and picked this place for a quick latte and pastry. Service was awesome from the cashier to the person that brought our drinks. Latte was 10/10 and the berry scone 10/10+.

The white chocolate chai is TO DIE FOR. I think about it everyday, and pick one up at least once a week.

I had the long john and while I was fully expecting it to have a crème filling, it was still very good and was gone in about a minute. This place probably gets quite busy on the weekends and to maximize spacing, table seating is packed tightly, so if you don't like to snuggle up to a total stranger, than this place might not be for you. The service by our server, Micah, was friendly and efficient. The overall make-up of patrons on this Monday morning, was a good mix of regulars, that the servers knew by name, visitors from nearby hotels and everyday folks with business to do in Downtown. My wife ordered the French Toast sandwich which definitely pass the eye test. I ordered the House made Corned Beef Hash. Both dishes hit the spot for tastiness and overall breakfast satisfaction. If available street parking is available and the wait is less than 15 minutes, than I would recommend this place for you.
