Called the Bread board at 5:30 to make reservations. They told us they don't take reservations. Ok. Can we order ahead so we can eat asap upon getting to the restaurant. The person said they don't do that either. Well ok. We walk in at 6pm and immediately get a weird look from a woman at the cash register. She says can I help you? My wife says table for 4 please. She then says "We close at 8pm" It's 6pm at the time. There is plenty of tables open as we look around. She says "ok but we are behind and the wait is like 2 hours". We were seated and the wait was 45mins to an hour. food was ok. My favorite was the pastry's and Garlic bread. Don't know if it's worth going back or not. read more

So I'd heard of The Bread Board as Falls City is a town close to where I live. But I'd never gone because my thought was "it's Falls City" what can be good in a town that tiny?" I mean you blink and you're through it. What a poor attitude I had and I'd missed out for so many years. One Friday night I decided hubby and I would drive out and try it. It was PACKED. We hadn't rea9they were doing a geology fundraiser that night. The place is small, and has limited hours so be sure to check that out if you plan on going. But in the summer there is outdoor seating. The menu was small and on a chalk board as you enter. Only about 8 pizzas or so to choose from and all one size... very large. We later learned the top few pizzas are ways available as a choice. The bottom ones change depending on the local ingredients they receive. Love that. We couldn't decide between a few and when we got to the counter were told we could do any two and they'd do a half and half. Yay! We decided to be brave. Half pepperoni and half apple, bacon, a d honey. Yup. Sounded odd to us too. That's why we were brave! While standing in line we noticed all of the baked goods on the counter. There was a cheesecake with one slice removed that had been brick oven baked and hubby was debating getting a slice, but decided against it. The pizza did take a little longer than I would have liked to arrive to our table. But, again, they also were slammed due to the fundraiser. They stopped by our table several times to assure us it would still arrive. When it did.... yummmm. Perfect thin crust a d wood fired pizza. That odd pizza? Yeah, we couldn't get enough of it. Hubby later went in to get another drink and noticed the cheesecake was near gone. So he made sure to grab a slice anyway lol. I don't do cheesecake, but hubby said it was delicious!! We highly recommend the Bread Board and are looking forward to going again this summer when they have live music. read more

Pizza was great nice and hot and that's where it ended. My salad was over dressed and I felt had more olives than anything else. I was going to get a dessert until I went inside and saw 10-15 flies all over the baked goods. It appears that nothing is covered and flies are free to do their business on the food we pay a pretty penny for. I doubt I'll be back just for this reason alone. read more

Absolutely the best artisan breads I've ever tasted. My 8-y.o. daughter is already a sourdough aficionado, and she ranks The Bread Board's "Country Sourdough" at the very top -- and I would have to agree with her. The bread itself is surprisingly dense, not just full of a bunch of air like a lot of supermarket breads, with a rich, sour flavor that will have you cutting another slice right away. My personal favorite is the "Asiago Jalapeno" sourdough bread -- the cheese adds an extra level of richness, and the little kick from the jalapenos is delightful. It's also the perfect size to toast and top with caramelized onions. We are willing to drive 45 minutes out of our way to get this bread at the Salem Farmers Market -- it is that good! The pizzas, breads, and bacon are delicious however the service is terrible. We've been multiple times and it's always a little slow but lately it's unacceptably slow. Recently we ordered pizza and appetizers. The appetizers came out without issue but an hour after ordering we still didn't have pizza. We asked to change it to a go order as it was getting later. About 30 minutes later we checked again and the pizza wasn't even in the oven yet, almost 2 hours after ordering. We ended up paying for what we had already had and leaving. A little overrated but good overall. We had the candied bacon pizza with Gouda and tomatoes. It was tasty but there were burned bits, expected with a wood fired pizza. The location of the Bread Board is something of a mystery to some . . . but it makes sense, I suppose. I'm pretty sure John and Keith sell their artisan creations at a lot of regional markets and co ops . . . so there's not as much a need of storefront in a popular location if you're selling through other vendors. All that being said, as a resident of Falls City, I feel blessed that this amazing establishment exists in our small town. The pizza offerings are all quite lovely. Thin crust, quality locally sourced ingredients, and some of the best dough I've ever had . . . even on reheating the next day. That's something you'll likely be doing as these pizzas are very large. Unless there are four of you, you'll definitely be bringing some back to reheat tomorrow morning for breakfast. Though the pizzas are great, the breads and other baked goods are where the Bread Board really shines. The sourdough miche (as other mentioned) is really something special. Prices are on par with quality bakeries in larger cities, and though it pains me to pay $7 for a large sourdough loaf, I only regret that until I get it home and use it to make sandwiches or just toast. I gave four stars out of five as I think they could do a bit more work on developing their beer selection. Not a single IPA on the list; however, as the storefront doesn't seem to be the main way they butter they bread, I can't complain too much. Can't wait to go back! read more

Someone on Nextdoor was asking about the best pizza in Salem and the Bread Board in Falls City was mentioned as being really good. We are true foodies that like to try new places so we just had to try it. Well, were we surprised. From the moment we walked in we were in love with it. The staff are very warm and welcoming. They have a collection of breads, slices, real fruit danishes, and the most amazing cinnamon rolls ever. It was more like a sticky bun and was as big as your head. As huge as it was it was the flavor and not the size that was most impressive. It had a refreshing orange flavor rather than cinnamon. There were about 6 pizzas on the menu that change seasonally. We had a half and half pizza of FunGuy (mushroom) and Sausage. Huge again and again its the flavor and not the size that is so wonderful. The day we went they were testing a new flavor of pizza. So we were offered a taste test of two different pizzas with Brussels sprouts on them. Brussels sprouts are one of the few things that I really don't enjoy and so I was probably not the best judge. One of them had candied bacon on it and that was really good. Not sure that I would like a whole pizza of it but my wife, who LOVES Brussels sprouts, said she loved the hint of bitterness of the sprouts and said she would buy it in a minute. I just loved that they ask customers to taste test the food. The whole experience was wonderful. Great food and great staff. We also went on a Friday and found that from 2pm - 5pm the pizzas are $9 off. We will be back very soon. read more

My daughter brought me to The Bread Board and am so glad she did! I love bread! Their sourdough is comfort food in bread. I ordered the bread samplers and the sourdough was my favorite, all the breads were delicious. I also had the Greek salad and it was perfect, fresh greens and a wonderful Greek dressing, the seasonings and oil perfectly balanced. It was a nice pairing I had together and I made a "salad sandwich" with the sourdough bread, it was that delicious! The service was great from staff and owner who came to table to ask how we enjoyed our meal and bread. It is a great little place out in Falls City that we stopped at on our way back from the beautiful Oregon coast. I am definitely eating here again when I am traveling from the coast. Amazing breads. The scones are out of this world & the sticky buns are yummy!! The staff is great too :) My only complaint is that they are only open 2 days a week. I suppose sourcing all their natural ingredients takes time but I hope one day they are open more often. read more

If for some reason you ever venture out to Falls City, Oregon make a stop here! This is a friendly little bakery in a renovated building that makes their bread there on site. On a trip out to the Oregon coast, we made a pit stop here and sampled the blackberry galette, savory galette (best of the bunch), scone, and jalapeno bread. It was a bit of a surprise to find this place in such a small town, but good and if you are heading out to Black Rock for some mountain biking, a good pit stop. read more

We came here last summer and I'm just finally writing a review. It was a place in no where Oregon. I heard strange stories about this small town, Falls City; however, my coworker highly recommended it for its bread and pizza. I'd say, great place to come in the summer for lunch! When we first arrived to this place, I felt like I walked into a restaurant on Alberta or Mississippi in Portland. This place has indoor and outdoor seating. I have horrible allergies to Oregon's beautiful summer, so we sat inside. We had their pepperoni pizza, which was delicious! They make their pizzas fresh right when you place your order. It's cook in a brick oven! To top off our meal with a dessert, we got one of their cinnamon roll. It was huge enough to split between 2-3 people! It is absolutely the BEST cinnamon roll I've ever had! Although their pizza was really good, I'm hoping they expand their menu items. We will definitely return for more cinnamon rolls and to taste their many choices of favored bread. read more

This was my second visit to the Bread Board. On my first time out, I was pleasantly surprised to see a country take on an upscale chic pizzeria. This time, It looked like there have been even more eclectic décor improvements, with an immediate sense of slightly upscale country relaxation. We started out with an assortment of breads and "bacon candy." I have to say, I am absolutely in love with the roasted garlic loaf (I haven't found someone else who sells it for a long time!) But I wish they would put the balsamic on the side as a pour-on option, rather than drenching my bread in something that myself or my guest may not particularly enjoy, The bacon candy is quite delicious, and it has a good balance of heat and sweet! I wish there had been a small amount more acidity in there somehow as well, because the sweetness does overwhelm the palate a bit. For our last course, we did order what I believe is called "The fifth dimension." Broken down, it's a white pizza with a cheese based sauce, a layer of thinly sliced potatoes, a layer of cheese, and a "lemon juice drizzle." I think this pizza would have been fantastic....IF they had left the lemon off. The acidity here was absolutely unnecessary and did nothing but create a funky taste that didn't match the rest of the meal. Maybe they just overdid it on the lemon for our pizza, but I don't think it was JUST ours. In fact, it didn't seem overdone (it was just a light lemon taste), but rather just SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DONE. The good stuff - Portions are fantastic, Price isn't bad (although this specific pizza I would not pay for again at all.) The wait staff are friendly and courteous, and it's a fun place for anyone to go eat dinner. When I lived in Salem I use to go here all the time come to and from Black Rock MTB park. It was cool to watch them build the place, open, and expand over time. To this day I have not had better artisian breads! Their pizzas, although expensive, are completely worth it and the experiance is well worth the drive out there.
