Actually, just having looked back at pictures, it is very CASTLE - esk. It's practically a large castle. So, you get into the center and it's more like a large gym space though. The ceiling is very high which is nice- makes the room very airy. I was here for the Maryland Ensemble Theater's Retro Prom. They decorated the place nicely. And the venue seems like it could easily fit 500 people reception style. There is a lack of parking, but the large expansive room makes up for it. If memory serves me right, there were basketball hoops attached to the ceiling. It is very much like a gym feel. There are fields around the building. A great large event venue in a town where not many at all exist.

During the weekends you'll see the pool taken over by youth swim lessons. The deck is very small/narrow. When walking you might bump into a lifeguard walking and doing their job on the deck. It feels tight. There are no high bleachers so come early to find a good spot to watch from. They do have benches surrounding the pool on the deck. The center is an older center but has all your basic needs. Locker rooms don't appear the cleanest but has showers. The shower water goes from warm to cold when more than 1 or 2 are using it. This location also has a preschool with a small playground on site.

I was running late for my daughters bball game so I didn't want to be rushed however; it is the security and safety of the people in the building that concerns me. They need to stop everyone and make them sign in and inquire as to where they are going as well as check ID's. That's what I have had to do at other Rec centers. Otherwise it was nice inside, clean, and several options of things to do. There was a table of snacks before you enter the gym where they sell snacks also.

It's a great little park with water access for launching boats, kayaks, or just viewing the water. There is also an enclosed skateboard area. The Truxtun Park boat ramp is open year round from 5 a.m. until 8 p.m. Two, concrete ramps are available. There is a $5 fee per launch payable via Visa/MasterCard or annual pass only. No cash is accepted at the park. Fees apply all days of the year to any vessel launched from the ramps. Truxtun Park has three picnic pavilions available for rent year round. Groups of 10 or more must obtain a permit in advance. Located in the Fallsgrove area, the community center is both convenient to my office and a very affordable gym option. The facilities (all brand new) include a big basketball court, a ping-pong room, a fitness room with weight and cardio machines, a playground outside for the kiddies, a community garden that's starting to grow, and a few rooms for classes/events. And, the building was built with many sustainable features (i.e. geothermal heating, locally sourced materials, efficient water faucets) I've been a fitness member for a while which means I can access the fitness room whenever the center is open. On top of that I take a weekly kickboxing class that is a lot of fun (but also kicks my butt.) I really like that I can take as many or as few classes as I want and just pay for what I actually use through the Parks & Rec department. At typical membership gyms, you pay an inflated fee to pay for all these classes you don't even go to and all the personal trainers to annoy you to take a training session and all the sales people to haggle with you over an extra $5 off the 'joining fee'. Here you can pay a flat rate and get access for a month, 3 months, 6 months, or a year. And there is a discount if you're a resident of Rockville. The community center also has community events like basketball tournaments, festivals for kids, teen movie nights, and other family oriented things that are a nice addition to the area. I haven't tried these out as I don't play basketball, am not a kid nor am I a teen but they look like fun family functions. Overall I highly recommend TFCC and am very satisfied, especially since I don't have to commit to a membership gym!

I remember watching this being built during my high school years and was so excited for a space close to home where we could hang out, play basketball, etc. A neighborhood landmark of sorts. As an adult, this still rings true. I visit the Mid-County Rec for many reasons including to vote and attend community organization events. I love that you can rent rooms of several sizes - plus, there's even a gym! I wish more people knew how great and multifaceted rec centers are, especially youth and senior citizens. Let's get the word out there about Mid-County rec!

We've also visited the water park several times, and our kids always have a great time. It's clean, well-maintained, and offers enough variety to keep them entertained for a few hours. Overall, I'd consider Cub Run one of the better rec centers in Fairfax County. The facilities are nice, the pricing is reasonable, and it's a great place for families.

We could've easily spent 4 hrs here. There are several life guards on duty and the kids had a blast! There are 2 large water slides, one that goes outside and ends up inside as well as a smaller kids water jungle gym and a whirlpool that our kids loved! The giant hot tub is for 16 yrs and older.
