I'm not one to write a review; however, Dr. Ross Bomben is one exception. At the time I started seeing him I was not able to run past 3 miles because of major knee pain, on both knees. I had done physical therapy for almost a year previously because of the knee pain. I suffered a ski accident about 5 years prior where I hurt both knees. The pain at times was excruciating and I was unable to walk, run or go upstairs. Physical therapy helped where I could move more easily, but the pain was still there. Unable to figure out what was wrong, the therapist referred me to a surgeon who wanted to operate on both knees. The surgeon tried two shots of cortisol in both knees but nothing, pain still continue. I sought a second opinion from another surgeon and he told me he did not feel comfortable completing a surgery because the pain was not in just one place and the MRI did not show any ruptures, so as you could see I was out of luck. I was told several times to just quit running, but I kept looking for other avenues until I met Dr. Bomben. Dr. Bomben knew exactly how to treat both knees and I am HAPPY to say I am PAIN FREE today. He took the time to understand my condition and explain in detail what I needed to do. He is not afraid to take out his text book and explain to you where the pain is coming from. Dr. Bomben helped me run, hike and do all the things I was unable to do before. While seeing Dr. Bomben I was able to train for a half marathon and hike 45 miles up the Grand Tetons. From not being able to walk at times to actually running 13.1 miles in 2hrs 12 minutes you know he must be AMAZING!!! He has a great positive outlook on things; he cares about his patients as if they were family! I recommend him to anyone who is suffering from pain regardless of what it is. Summary - I would recommend Dr. Ross Bomben to ANYONE with pain (mild to severe), and in my case, especially for pregnant women. He is a great listener and really thinks through what could have caused the pain, and he explains the scientific aspect of your injury (not just treats the pain) so you know how to work through it and even prevent it in the future. He has a thorough understanding of the changes and differences you need to consider for a pregnant woman's body, which made me feel very comfortable with his recommendations and chiropractic services. The full background - I was referred to Dr. Ross Bomben by my obstetrician about halfway through my pregnancy due to severe neck pain. I had no idea what was causing it, but I couldn't even lift my purse or turn my head side to side without having shooting pains in my neck. I was hesitant to go to a chiropractor because of a previous negative experience with a different chiropractor years earlier, but I knew I needed help so I made an appointment. He listened to all of my symptoms, did a few movement-related diagnostic tests and felt the different parts of my neck, then had me move my neck in different ways to see if they made the situation better or worse. Based on all of that, he was able to clearly explain what was happening and used a model spine to explain it. He gave me exercises to do, along with recommendations of ice and rest, and said he wanted to see me again in 24 hours. Within 24 hours, my neck was significantly better, and over the following two weeks I went from severe pain to minimal/no pain by continuing to work with him. I've now worked with him through the remainder of my pregnancy from a preventive perspective and overall healthy pregnancy perspective. read more

I came into see Dr. Bomben in severe back pain and on a walker after 5 days of constant muscle spasms and immobility after a work related re injury. From the moment I met Dr. Bomben and his staff I could really feel that they cared about helping me to get out of pain and to heal. Dr. Bomben was kind, compassionate, empathetic, knowledgeable, a great listener, and very responsive to any questions or concerns that I had. Dr. Bomben explained things to me in a way that I could understand and spent rehab time answering my questions and brainstorming ways that I could alter my positioning throughout the day to decrease pain and increase proper alignment. He allowed me to take videos and allowed time for me to show how I was bending, lifting, sitting, standing so that I could ensure that I was engaging in the best movement patterns possible. As I progressed in my treatment he and his staff explained the injury and home exercises so that when I left the office I knew more about how to stay out of pain. I am more aware of my movement patterns than I ever have been before. I am three months post injury and it is a slow and steady process but I am convinced that I would not be where I am today without this amazing team of people including Debbie at the front desk, Sage in massage, and Roxanne in rehab. I have lifted weights for 35 years and have had a variety of injuries and subsequent visits with doctors, PT's, massage therapists, rolfers, and chiropractors. Unfortunately, few of them have ever provided any relief. Recently, an old recurring back injury flared up. I rested it for about 3 months to no avail. I then saw my physician who recommended physical therapy. I found a popular therapist (not Dr. Bomben), dutifully made all the appointments, and did all the home exercises, but nothing changed. I then visited a Physiatrist (rehab MD) who gave me a shot of cortisone. That, too, failed. Finally, after 6 months of futility, I visited Performance Therapy Group. Dr. Bomben performed some quick tests and immediately surmised that it was likely a simple case of built-up scar tissue. After a series of in-office massages, my problem cleared up in a matter of weeks. I wish that I had met Dr. Bomben 15 years ago when this problem first appeared. Finally, Dr. Bomben has the best bedside manner of any doctor or therapist that I have ever encountered. I use him as a maintenance doctor for other injuries (he showed me a simple self-massage technique that completely cleared up nagging elbow pain) and continue to get regular massages from his therapists. I love Dr. Bomben! I was having a problem with my knees and my lower back. I was afraid that it was a skeletal problem. I wasn't able to do kettle bell swings and I was afraid I was going to hurt myself training for my Spartan Races. The treatments have allowed me to do sumo high lift pulls with 70lbs kettle bells, and kettle bells swings without hurting my back. I have been able to run and increase weight on my squats. Before going to Dr. Bomben, I went to my general doctor and he gave me muscle relaxers that didn't fix the problem. When Dr. Bomben assessed my problem he helped me understand what was causing it and what I had to do outside of therapy so that it would not come back. I learned that my knee pain was due to muscle tightness in my quads and connecting tendons. I feel like I've taken a mini course in my muscle anatomy, which I love because now I understand more of how my body works and I can prevent future injuries. I've seen Dr. Bomben for a variety of issues including ankle sprains, upper and lower back pain. I've had excellent outcomes and experiences each time I've been treated by Dr. Bomben and Performance Therapy. My first experience was an ankle sprain where I went from 50% mobility to 95% in one treatment. It was impressive. Most recently my lower back pain stopped me in my tracks when I simply bent over to pick up my shoes. Dr. Bomben identified the issue as muscular and after the first treatment, my pain and mobility improved. I was even able to dance at a party that night! After a total of 5 visits I am back to normal. From my non-medical perspective, the treatment was to find the muscle spasm region or muscles and apply pressure and massage. However, he didn't only treat the acute issue but also coached me on the contributing factors to my back pain--my posture and weight lifting techniques. I don't know where to start - Dr. Bomben has treated me, one of my daughters and my husband. Two injuries (hamstring and then elbow) brought me to Ross. I was so impressed with his professionalism and his clear understanding of how to treat these types of injuries, I looked forward to each visit. Yes, working through a pulled hamstring can be painful but he made it okay because I knew I was getting better. With four treatments, I could run again without pain. I have worked with Dr. Ross and PHA since I moved to Austin to pursue my Olympic dreams as a decathlete in 2011. After having years of sports therapy I can truthfully say that Ross is one of the best there is. Ross helped me come back from a bad case of patellar tendonitis in 2012. This is not an easy injury to get rid of for someone who trains for 6-8 hours a day! Consistent work from Ross allowed me to be ready to compete at the Olympic trials in 2012 where I finished 7th. The combination of the massage therapy and the different modalities he suggested got me back to form. Ross has also been my go to guy for therapy as I am coming off of Tommy John Surgery. I am almost fully recovered from the surgery and Ross has helped me work through the kinks of coming off of a major surgery. There are no flashy gimmicks here. I am a 43 yr old business owner who works hard and plays hard. I have been an athlete my entire life. I have kids young and old so it's important for me to stay active and "in motion." My son, who is 13, has suffered from a very painful lower back for about 6 weeks. He is a very active child that trains for and plays basketball all year. This injury has him either sitting on the bench or "playing through his pain" most days. After visiting several other practitioners we headed to Dr. Bomben. We should have headed here first! Dr. Bomben said that his injury doesn't "neatly fit" into any box so he wanted to gather more information. We did an X-Ray as well as a MRI. I've been a patient of Dr. Bomben for a few years now and time after time I walk of his office feeling significant improvement in whatever was ailing me at the time. My issues have ranged from headaches to plantar fasciitis, but most recently my GP had diagnosed me with tennis elbow. After following standard GP protocol and seeing little improvement I decided it was time to see Dr. Bomben again. I went in, and as always, listened to what I had to say, provided insight as to what he thought the real issue was, performed a few ROM tests and began to treat me, working on the area and further confirming his initial assessment. Dr. Bomben is extremely knowledgeable in his field and his staff is top notch. Making an appointment was easy and they were willing to work with my schedule when I had something come up and needed to re-schedule. I went in with a back that was hurting and unwilling to let me sleep through the night. They took time to understand my issues - offered guidance on stretches, took me threw full motion therapies, isolated issues that were contributing to the pain. After a handful of sessions I am now sleeping through the night. It's hard to give someone a better gift than that. In addition to this, Dr. Bomben took the time to email me stretches that I could do at home to help the prevent the future recurrence of the back pain. Dr. Ross is the best! I had severe pain in my shoulder that only allowed for 5-10% movement of my arm. The pain had been present for 5 days. I could not raise my arm and sleeping was very uncomfortable. I saw Dr. Ross on a Friday morning and Saturday morning, I had 95% mobility. The following Monday I returned for a massage therapy session with Scott and the pain was totally gone. Dr. Ross asked alot of questions and had me perform various movements as he diagnosed the problem. He really takes the time to pinpoint the pain and then explain what could be causing the pain and how best to alleviate the pain. Very detailed examination. I have been a weight lifter for 17 years. I recently had a sharp knee pain that I thought for sure would require surgery and/or many months off from training to heal. Man, this guy and his staff are so good. Dr. Bomben listens closely, assesses, and adjusts my back & neck twice a week. Plus, he has skilled massage therapists on site so I will often kill two birds with one stone and get a massage after the adjustment. When I started seeing Dr. Bomben I had lower back pain and was actually just seeking a second opinion. I was not getting results from another chiropractor for more than 5 months of biweekly appointments. For 3 or 4 weeks I had severe neck pain that felt like whiplash. I didn't have insurance at the time so I was only seeing a massage therapist and using Icy Hot. The severity of the pain prevented me from sleeping at night so I finally sought out Dr. Bomben. I went to a chiropractor 10 years ago without much success, but Dr. Bomben's treatment helped me considerably! The amount of time he spent with me was much greater than what most doctors devote to their patients. He also gave me some helpful remedies that I was able to do at home.
