I have been shopping here for decades even though I live in another town now that is farther away. But the amount of merchandise here is really good. All I have to say for today is that no one seems to be sweeping up or cleaning up the outside. I have never seen it so dirty here, pee left by homeless against the outside walls, sweets and gum wrappers tossed all over the gutters , blowing around in the wind, some plastic clothing hangers tossed outside, maybe from a ripoff, it looks like an old abandoned building on the outside. Literally have so much disdain coming to this Ross. Long lines and the poor treatment of men in society, who genuinely are just shopping at Ross without chasing tail or staring at women has definitely become socially "acceptable". Had a few snappy or weirdly rude females check my items out here before. This chick with a pony tail and glasses literally made a simpleton face at me, because I wanted to clarify that I had left one item for non purchase, and was purchasing three. She made me feel like a moron for asking a question, when in reality, she hates her job probably befause of the occasional aggressive and / or shallow holiday shopper. Couple that with the fact theres always kids screaming and crying like a chucke cheese and she seemed to have felt she had to reduce her personality to match this environment. I work at a popular restaurant/bar spot here in Salinas, and it just seems this is generally the attitude of anyone 35 and under around here. It just sucks to be shat on, when I stayed quietly in line, checked out, and wasn't anyone's hassle or any sort of grievance. Like really, how much do you guys hate your jobs where when someone walks in you already have a pre determined mindset to treat them badly? I love Ross. But wtf is going on the line was literally 22 people long. Wrapping towards the back of the store. One checker.. I repeat one flipping checker.?. How does this even make sense?. They have enough security guards get one of them checking?. Check people as they leave the store.. it was 5:15 on friday. Fine. It is the busy time ..yes. but shouldnt stotes accomadate rush hour customers. Instead of wasting another 45 minuted standing in line ..i walked. Left my cart. It felt great. I WILL KEEP THAT $100 that couldve been theirs.. So as I am leaving I see..the manager with 2 new trainees I assume..not heading toward the front to help.. I said ..is there really only one checker?.and she just rudely confirmed. Yeah. One checker.. And she then just blew me off and continued on her high horse. I SAID. .WELL. thank you . I came in the other day and found some good bedding. I went to put it on hold and the lady helping me, Francisca, already seemed annoyed with me for even talking to her. She asked me "what is that? It needs to be hanged" and so I replied "oh I found it like this without a hanger" and she snapped at me with attitude saying "YEAH but WHAT is it?". I told her it was a blanket and she handed me a hanger and told me to hang it.. she handed a hanger meant for pants. It was actually impossible to hang on this hanger, I'm sure she could have used common sense to know it wasn't going to work. I still attempted to hang it and eventually told her that I could not hang this blanket on this hanger, she completely ignored me to talk to her coworkers about something not really urgent and either way she was contributing absolutely nothing to this conversation. I know she heard me and I was literally standing right in front of her as she talked to her coworker and pretended like I was not there, I feel like she wanted to ignore me because she was not needed in this conversation she was just clueless and wanted to include herself or find a way to divert her attention from me. I was standing there in between her and her coworkers awkwardly and she only helped me when one of them told her to help me. She took the blanket from me and placed it in a bin, asked my name and told me I have until the end of the day to buy it, all while having a sour look on her face and still a not so great attitude. I was nothing but chill and cooperative and all she did was give me attitude and act like I was an inconvenience. Just because she is miserable doesn't mean she has to try to make others feel the same, you could tell she absolutely hates working there. Went shopping 2 weeks ago went back to return items with receipt but the card that was used got hacked and Mechcanics Bank closed the account and issued another card. The store employee says I can not have money back and gave me a credit. This is wrong, Ross needs money so bad that they embezzle money from customers and no were on the receipt does it state that. read more

Everyone in the store was very nice and greeted me at the door, however, the cashier that checked me out was rude. She refused to get the manager when I asked her to. I also told her I did NOT want a bag and she still proceeded to pack my items into a bag. The cashiers name is Julie. Julie was rude and had no answer to my question. I asked her why she let someone cut in front of me in line, when many many people where waiting in the long line patiently. She's wasn't aware of her surroundings and just refused to get management told to. Worst customer service I've ever gotten. I legit work in retail, and that's just not how you treat a customer. I just went to Ross this morning over on Davis Road in Salinas. I don't usually like to complain about employees if I have a negative experience because you never know what's going on in that person's life so maybe it's just a one off day for them. But today, it just really got to me and I don't understand it but I suspect management is not doing their best to train these employees. First, the store is so unorganized. There are carts and racks in the aisles so it's hard to get thru. Carts are just willy nilly in the aisles and no employees around. Why couldn't they put those racks along a back wall or at least out of the way until you can unload them or label the merchandise so a person could get thru the aisles. The other thing that really irritated me was the way the employees spoke to the customers. I waited in a huge line. There were 4 employees at the cash registers. Two looked like they were supervisors but they were just walking around answering questions by the other two checkers. No rush, no looking at the long lines realizing they need to help to get things moving. The one checker said nothing but "Next!" to each person in line. No "Did you find what you were looking for?" No "Thank you", just "Next!" I said thank you when I retrieved the receipt from the terminal as I checked out and I felt like a fool for saying thank you to the cashier when she couldn't even say it back to me. Ross is a lot like Marshalls' and the Marshalls' in Salinas can develop long lines to check out too but the store seems more organized and the employees actually speak to you and make small talk. I Just think something needs to be said for poor management because those employees at Ross are getting a bad rap for the terrible training they are receiving. I just hate poor customer service. I was treated like a thief, I returned some item's & they refunded me the wrong amount & for the wrong item. So when I went to return the correct item they took me through changes. The viewed the footage & still wouldn't give me my full refund. I asked to see the footage & the supervisor who was off the clock said no to go sit down. I ask for my receipt's back. As I was leaving the store I asked her name she, She refused to give it to me. So I asked 4 her Boss. She call lost prevention, As if the where going to escort me out. The store manager & the lost prevention supervisor came to the the front of the store. As the where watching the camera footage & calling the other Ross where I had purchased the other items for them to view their camera footage. They made me to feel like a lier, Thief & less than human. At the end of the day I was given my correct refund. As I was leaving the store I mentioned to the supervisor That she needed to learn how to talk to customers. She said she was off the clock. Then I said she needed to stay out of it. She said I should stop talking to her. The store manager gave me the supervisor name & I Called Corporate & explained my concerns. I spend a lot of money in Ross. I ask a lady if she could open the restroom door and was told to go to Walmart because they were short staff and she didn't have the time to go open the door for me. I had an interesting experience the other day... an elderly lady friend of mine asked her to take her to Ethan Allen since she will be turning 86 next month and stopped driving a few years back. Since we didn't find anything there I asked her if she wanted to check out Ross to see if they had any small lamps and coffee tables... you never know at Ross, I always get lucky and find what I need. We got to the cash register where it was just starting to get a little busy and stood in line, my lady friend who also has a hard time walking asked me to check something for her in the purse section, as I ran back in less than a minute it was my turn in line at the register but the Front End Supervisor thought I had cut everyone in line. I was baffled. I was just helping an elderly lady out on my one day off of work and she told me off in front of the whole store. Unreal. Where is the love? read more

The prices may be low but so is the cleanliness and customer service. I guess I'm spoiled by the Ross experience in Hawaii where stepping into Ross is like stepping into a (deep discount) department store. The stores are clean and mostly in order. Every now and then you can find an abandoned item that is out of place but, for the most part, everything is in its place. This store always seems to be a madhouse and the lack of organization reflects it. Also, the lines are always ridiculously long. Inexplicably long! Bottom line: while the prices are hard to beat, it may not be worth the aggravation of having to weed through everything to find what you may want, it's always inexplicably crowded and if you do find what you want, it will take years to make it through the register. And I don't even want to think about what a pain it would be to return anything! read more

I was paying for my purchases and the checker called the next customer over before handing me my change and receipt, trying to make me rush so I wouldn't notice being shorted 9 dollars. That made me suspicious so I checked and confronted her. She then started playing dumb and after waiting forever she hands me the "correct" change, which was wrong AGAIN. She's like "is this right?" She was suddenly pretending to be stupid so I wouldn't know she is a thief...I won't put her name but her associate number is 531356, which is printed on the receipt. So check your receipt and count your change! I already notified the supervisor and she said she would keep an eye out. read more

This is one of the best places to find some amazing deals but the store and clientele can be difficult to navigate through. If you are willing to shop strategically and with the full knowledge of what you're in for then you may find some of your favorite home items, clothing, and accessories for next to nothing. Here are a few things you can and should expect; certain areas of the store can be in disarray, the aisles only fit one shopping cart at a time, there is often clusters of people, and once you are ready to pay the lines at the register can be pretty sizeable. But I have noticed that the store is trying to fix some of these problems by adding more staff that are constantly re-stocking and clearing areas. You can also avoid the rush and crowds if you go as soon as they open at 9:00am, in the middle of the day or before they close. The aisles remain a problem pretty unavoidable just try to get to the aisle you want before anyone else does and be politely aggressive. If you are buying clothes wear something comfortable and easy to remove in the fitting room and while looking through the aisles of clothes grab as many things as you can. The prices are ridiculously cheap and you can find some really cute things but you do have to do some work. *Be forewarned the shopping carts do not leave the store so if you can bring a friend for some tag team shopping. read more

Came to Ross on Sat. Jan 18th, 2020, around 5pm. The line to purchase was insane. The line was 26 transactions deep and they only had two out of 6 registers open. This was worse than Christmas here. If it wasn't for the fact I needed something for work the next day, I would have walked out. I estimate that I will be done buying my stuff after waiting in line for 45 mins. At the 36 min. mark now. Unbelievable!!! I have TRIED to shop in this store 3 times and every time has been a failure and today will be the last time!! Before you even get into the store, be prepared to get heckled by someone trying to sell fruit or churros. THEN prepare yourself if you are a woman to be checked out from head to toe creepily by the 3-5 men hanging out outside the front door. Sick!!! Then open the door and enter the chaos! There is clothes, shoes, toys, and everything else strewn about EVERYWHERE in this place!! Kids running around screaming and playing with toys they opened that you know they aren't going to purchase. Coughing, sneezing, shoeless children RUNNING around like its the damn apocalypse EVERYWHERE! Don't even bother grabbing a cart, it will only further slow you down as you will either not be able to fit down the aisles or you will be running over all of the miscellaneous merchandise thrown all over the floor! I attempted to shop at this Ross. The clothing was in such disarray that it was hard to navigate anywhere, especially with a cart. Also, the cosmetics were all tampered with. Nothing was sealed, and a lot of bottles had been opened and had goop spilling out of them. I wouldn't buy any of that stuff. On top of that, there was random FOOD sitting around. Wtf? Also, I ended up somehow losing my wallet here. It was in my hand one second, gone the next. When I notified the staff and "loss prevention" dude (who doesn't do his job, at all) , they either didn't speak English, or really didn't care. I left without my wallet and disgruntled. Every time I've been to this store it's always the same thing...the employees overwhelmed by the amount of customers and the customers allowing their darn kids run the store... this of course causes the problem employees to be in a bad mood therefore we all get treated love me poorly. Whether or not I shop at Ross depends on the level of pain I am willing to endure that day. Don't get me wrong - there are some fantastic deals to be found there. I have a California King bed, and I managed to score a 300-thread count sheet set there today for $23. Normally I can't even get a crappier set for that cheap. They have lots of cute stuff; I appreciate the fact that I can get my Harajuku Lovers, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger fixes for pennies on the dollar. And their clearance racks are awesome! However, I don't shop in the Salinas store unless I absolutely have to. The racks are crammed very close together; even in the main aisles, it is difficult for two shopping carts to pass one another. If you want to look at something in the shoe aisles, you may as well wait in line, because only a couple of people can fit in the section at a time. Speaking of lines, when you are ready to check out, be prepared for a wait, because it seems like they never have more than two cashiers at a time (which is bad because that store is always busy). Not to mention the store looks trashed out half the time. I love Ross, but the Seaside store is way better than the Salinas store. If you have to stay in Salinas, check Marshall's first. read more

I needed a pair of pants for a work event and no one had my size; I figured I would go to Ross. It looked like the store exploded. Clothes all over the floor, nothing was folded, all sorts of stuff out of the boxes...it took twenty minutes to do what should have taken five. If i could give zero starts I would. Horrible customer service! I had six items with me but I wanted to use the restroom so I asked the person helping with the dressing rooms (CAROL) if I can put my clothes on the side while I go to the restroom. She gives me this rude look and just pointed to leave my clothes on the very bottom rack. (I'm pregnant and I couldn't even put them down their without struggling) so I put them on a the top rack because it was empty and easier for me to put them and not struggle bending down and putting them where she told me. When she saw me she ran over to me YELLING at me. She yelled telling me "what are you doing that's not where I told you to put them!" I kindly asked sorry is there a problem. She wanted to yank my clothes to put them of the bottom one but she stoped and rolled her eyes at me and gave me this rude hand gestures and said "you know what forget it'" with a nasty attitude. I told her sorry there's no need for you to get mad at me and she yelled at me saying "I'm not mad" and I told her don't yell at me. I walked away because I didn't want to make a scene but I can hear her still complaining about me out loud!! I came back to get my clothes and my sister was there I turned my back to get my stuff and my sister saw her rolling her eyes at me and kept giving me nasty looks. I did say anything to her because I am pregnant and don't want to make a scene. She is rude, unprofessional, unkind and didn't care to help me. I will never go back there again. I will not go to a store where I am being bullied and harassed.
