I love the outdoors, but I want to keep my hands clean once inside my car. I always get drawn into the home section, and I lucked up today finding an Aquarius mug and candle to start a friend's birthday gift stash. The fitness section is OK here. They have a nice selection of yoga mats. Mine isn't thick, cute in print, and has a carrying strap. It was only $7. If you're looking for a thick yoga mat, there's quite a few here that are 24x68in priced at $12.99 with a carrying strap. I didn't find leg and arm weights, bands, and other fitness items like some other locations, though. The shoe selection is bleh. Nothing really to see in any size. Nice bright and sunny. This place works. What it isn't is nasty, which is what you get in El Cerrito (across from BART) and Emeryville. This store was pleasant and didn't have clothes and other items strewn all over the floor. If I had to come here, I would not regret it. The main tip I have is that if you find something you want, get it! Keep the receipt and then return it. My husband found something and came back later for it and it was gone. I think it's the nature of the store, where they may only get one or two of a particular item. My friend used to work there and she told me that. But when my husband looked around and returned, his beloved item was gone. I told him to call me if he'd like me to pick up something for him, he doesn't drive. The Hispanic girl who is in charge of making the returns has a nasty attitude, talking back to the customers after I told her to change her attitude because my problem of my return should not be personal. I don't know you lady!. I went to return some pants and she told me the money will be returned to the Mastercard that ends in **0078. I told her; let me check because I don't know what numbers my card ends with. And if someone has an Apple credit card, you should know that the card numbers are not on the card but in your electronic wallet. (Apple pay) It doesn't take long to check which card I paid with, when she immediately told me that it was done. I explained to her that I don't have that card with me and there she started her bad attitude and calling the other customers when she hadn't finished with me. I work in customer service field and this girl has no customer service training. Lack of communication and lack of understanding the situation. I never disrespect you, I never said any bad words to you. I don't understand why your attitude was coming from but I'll make sure to report you with you manager because you shouldn't be working as a customer service. You get pay because us. Almost everything in the store costs less than you can get elsewhere. Good buys on snack food, coffee, and other odd food products. Dressing rooms are clean with not a lot of stuff left behind. I have been using the Amazon lockers at this store which are convenient and a safe place to pick up your items and also do some shopping. They have upgraded their security which I guess is a necessity. Clerks are polite and helpful which must be a difficult job as there is almost a line waiting to check out. Convenient parking but you can't bring your shopping cart to your car so don't buy more than you can carry. read more

I came here on grand opening weekend it was complete madness so I walked right out. I've since came back after work which was the perfect time the store was pretty much empty for the most part. My finds: I was able to score some nice Steve Madden glasses for $9.99 as well as some organic lavender hand soup for $2.99. Pros: *new bigger store *lots of parking *small hand roll baskets *friendly employees Cons: *boys section very minimal. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2018 - PART 2: 91/100 Nothing out of the ordinary, but I sometimes prefer this store to the likes of, let's say, Marshall's or TJ Maxx. They always have a variety of household items with competitive pricing. There's a bit of clutter here and there, but with the bargain prices, it isn't so much an issue. Hubbers and I made a stop here since we needed a few essential items for the kitchen. We found everything we were looking for but to compare prices, we decided to check out TJ Maxx (down the street, practically) first to compare. We were back within 30 minutes. This is the better store. (Same items there were priced lower here. And the selections are far better.) Lines can get long, but the bargains make them well worth it. Wow! THEY ARE JUDGMENTAL & RACIST HERE!! I went to pick up my Amazon delivery from this location today at 7:30pm for the second time this week and for the tenth time overall. I waved to the African American LOSS PREVENTION Lady when I entered the store, and she was gracious and waved to my daughter and I. To pick up our Amazon deliveries, which was the only reason we were at this store overcrowded with non-black families (continue to follow). However, as we were leaving, My kid and I attempt to wave at the previous LP lady but noticed a Latino LOSS PREVENTION woman heading towards us in aggressive demeanor preparing to stop us only for her to realize we was not grabbing and running. We had only our amazon packages. I Felt very disrespected and in defense mode of someone thinking they're going to mistakenly snatch anything or stop me and my child for some cheap as clothes that I was even there for. It was very unprofessional, unsafe, judgmental and racist! So, I stopped and asked, why have the black loss prevention walk the store for you to approach someone that wasn't shopping or looking at your products? Everyone was shocked and nothing was said. So, I assume ROSS hire blacks for protection or to meet a quota for hiring but only target blacks for stealing? Like you think non-black person(s) isn't in there stealing when they packed in the place like sardines and your focused on someone that came in greeted and went directly to their locker and headed straight out? This location has terrible management and communication. Yesterday you couldn't get in and they closed before 7 pm today I called at 740 this morning and they told me they open at 9 30 so I've been waiting all this time and then a few minutes before 9 they told us we had to wait until 10 because of the seniors. I came in here to do a return on a item I lost the receipt for. They take your drivers license to do a return when you don't have the receipt handy. Apparently the girl forgot to give me my drivers license back before leaving. I was in a hurry to get out of there before rush hour traffic and get back on the freeway so it must of slipped my mind to ask for it back. I called in later that night to tell them to hold my id for me. The manager on duty Yolanda hung up on me numerous times.. I was not cursing or saying anything unprofessional to make it reasonable for her to hang up on me. I got thru to someone the next day and they said they can't find my drivers license anywhere in the facility. It is a federal offense to steal someone's drivers license and they definitely did just that. I will be contacting corporate Monday when they open as well as the better business bureau. If I don't get my drivers license back or compensated for a new one as well as the time it will take to goto dmv to get a new one I will definitely be taking some kind of legal action against this Ross and the employee who stole my drivers license. Everyone there is taking this very lightly and don't seem to care at all. I have a lot of family and friends who shop at this location and I will make sure they never do in the future. So this location is compared to the location in Richmond by Hilltop mall. This Ross use to be a Walgreens before so it a very large space. The problem is that they didn't utilize the space very well, it's almost like the space is too big. They don't have a large variety of things and lack items. The customer service here is well not that great. They don't great you when you come in and as they are checking you out you can tell that they hate their job. The store is in the dirtier side, especially in the fitting rooms which is just gross. Only good thing about this location is that they have a large panting lot due to the lack of business popping here. Save your time and go to the El Cerrito location or Richmond location by Hilltop mall (yes it's better compared to this one). read more

Most of the staff is nice, and location is clean however more than several locations the older African American woman ringing up customers is very unkind. I don't usually like to give bad reviews but after several times of her attitude I decided to do so. I believe she's a manager and although she is quiet rude her staff is very nice. My last encounter with her was when I went to purchase a soft pillow used for sitting. The item was not price tagged and when I went to ask her how much she said very rudely $20! It's nice to see the San Pablo Towne Center getting new businesses after being empty for so long. I was really surprised to hear of a new Ross, especially with the Hilltop location only two freeway exits down. Nevertheless, the new store opened on March 3, with a soft opening on the 2nd. The store is in the old Walgreens location and Ross did a great job of taking the old space and making it their own. The store seems much larger than the Hilltop store, but it could very well be the same size. As with any Ross, you have all your usual departments, including: men's, women's, shoes, home, lingerie, accessories, etc. I firmly believe Ross is a gamble every time you go; you might get something good one day and nothing on your next. However, since it's a brand new store, corporate made sure to stock up every department with great selection and variety. As expected, lines were especially long, but moved fast with six cashiers on the seven available registers. For shopping addicts, I'm sure the new Ross is a nice addition to their drive on I-80. read more

While this is my normal go to store...one thing that makes a customer experience bad is someone disciplining an employee in front of a customer. And when I asked her to focus on me the customer and that was rude she stated I'm sorry you feel that way and you are rung up. Really....get it together. Do not buy from this store because they do not respect your right to normal returns!! Horrible staff and manager Stacey. They will not help you and treat you like liars and cheaters for your legitimate returns, I had 2 incidences, both with receipts and within 30 days. The first one with a cashier who made 3 consecutive mistakes, asked for Stacey, the supervisor/manager's help. I had to wait, had to be lectured by Stacey how to be patient "everybody makes mistakes..." and still be short changed. I left. The second incident is November 18, 2013. Returning a luggage I did not use, with receipt and within 30 days from purchase, manufacture's tags attached to it. Stacy found some plastic bags inside the luggage and refused to return it. I insisted it was not used. She abruptly said "fine!" , returned my money and walked away. I asked to see if indeed I left something inside, she didn't stop. After about 5 minutes, she returned to the counter and asked the other cashier "is she waiting for me? I gave her money back". I asked to check the luggage. She let me but laughed behind my back as I exited the store. I do not understand her handling of normal returns. There is certainly no reason for her to be rude and unpleasant. So yesterday at around 4pm i decided to walk in &not go to my normal El Cerrito Ross store, BIGGEST mistake ever! So my mother in law needed to use the restroom &no one was around &when someone finally decided to show up she had an attitude(talking smack after a grown lady? Really?) She really didnt have to make a big deal out of my mother in law just trying to use the restroom,even after my in law said THANK YOU, which i had to report her with management of course... &to top it off there was two cashiers &one of them seemed super nice but the one that helped us some asian chick seemed to be so bitchy... this ROSS has really dissapointed me, you guys need better staff members... read more

I went here for the first time. This store is better than the ones in Richmond, and Vallejo. This store was well kept, and neat. The employees were friendly. They had a good selection of clothing. The fragrance sections for men, and women was better stocked than the stores in Richmond, and Vallejo. There was no line to check out, and the process was easy. The fitting rooms were clean, and there was no clothing laying around these areas. Next time I am going to come here instead. They have a diverse employee base here like it should be. The only complaint is there are no people over 40 or senior citizens working here. Some seniors like to work part time to supplement their social security. Every Ross I go to has a young work force. Wonder what is going on? That's why I am only giving four stars instead of five. read more

I purchased four items of clothing today and declined the 5-cent bag because I brought my own bag. The cashier ended our transaction with the four items on the counter between us, piled up as if from a free fall. I asked her if she would at least fold them. She said they don't fold them anymore, they just dump them in the bag. I was appalled! I wasn't expecting the clothes to be neatly folded then wrapped in tissue paper held in place by a sticker like they do at Nordstrom. Each one folded in half then piled up, or piled up flat then folded all together shouldn't take time and would make it easier to shove them in a bag. If dumping is their rule I can't believe they actually made a policy to deliberately show disrespect towards their customer and their customer's new purchase. read more

I love shopping at Ross, but this Ross has the rudest, worst fitting room attendant (asian lady) that makes the whole shopping experience frustrating. I only had 3 garments that my 9 year old daughter needed to try on. The attendant insisted that I put the 3 items on a rack so she can count the items herself, gave us the tag with number 3, then asks if I was going in the fitting room with my daughter. I said "yes" (what kind of mother let their small child go in by themselves?) She said if I go in I would need a tag too, so she gave me a tag with a '0' on it. She told us the Ladies side was on the right unless my 9 year old daughter was a "Boy." On the way out of the fitting room, I took the 2 items we wanted to keep and handed her back the 1 item we didn't want. She told us no, we needed to put everything back on the rack again so that she can count it. Seriously? We only had 3 freakin items! After she counted the 3 garments, she ask which ones we were keeping. Hello, the two garments I was holding onto before?! Maybe the attendant had some kind of disorder, but she has to be the worst fitting room attendant I've ever experienced in my life. read more

I love the location of the place, good parking and spacious store. The bad part is manager and staff need customer service training badly. They have a dismissive manager and discriminating cashier. I took my mom shopping so I brought her here. She picked a number of items, mostly ladies stuff. We were in line to pay and there were only 2 cashiers working, one to do purchase and the other in returns. Lucky for us there was no one in returns that Janelle the cashier in the returns called the next person in line purchases - which is the lady in front of me buying a pair of boots. I was glancing back and forth between the 2 cashiers to see who will call me next. But it seems that the other cashier was helping another customer with big and multiple transaction purchase. I noticed that when I was looking at Janelle in Returns the lady she was helping out was pointing something on the pair of boots she's buying- some kind of scratch or defect. Right away, Janelle gave her 15% discount. Also, while waiting I noticed another lady behind the registers who was oblivious of the line forming in purchasing that she was just working on the items on the rack without trying to help out the customers waiting. (I noticed her caused she moved the rack in a way that it was blocking the space for them to move around, Janelle who was trying to get more plastic bags has to squeeze thru and the other lady didn't even bother to move it away). As Janelle was calling us the next in line, she asked her co-worker who was doing the rack to open another register as there is a line already. And as Janelle was ringing us up I helped her by taking out the hangers from the clothes we are purchasing. I also noticed that she asked the other lady about the price on one of the blouse we bought. It was noticeably cheap, priced at $2.99. When she realized that there was a mistake on the tag she deleted the item from our purchase without really explaining why. I have to ask her what's wrong. That's when she said, "Oh I cannot sell you this as this was priced incorrectly I have to take it out". So, I asked her how much is the actual price - she replied $7.99. For $5 difference, she did not have a courtesy of apologizing for the error made by the store and have the decency of asking if we are still interested. The way she handled it, she made me feel that we were trying to be sneaky about it. She made me feel that I did it intentionally and that too bad for me she caught it on time. I felt embarrassed for my mom. The point is, it was their mistake and that's a $5 mistake that she could have easily given to us. My mom's total purchase was about $200 plus. If she was able to give the other lady 15% discount for a defect that she decided to purchase. As for our case, it was not our fault that their staff marked it incorrectly. Usually, for better customer service the store will just let it go. $5 difference is nothing compared to the 15% discount she gave to the other lady who bought a pair of leather boots. I was upset on how Janelle discriminated against us. So, I went back in after taking my mom to the car to talk to the manager who I found out was the lady working on the rack that Janelle asked about the price. When I tried explaining to her that it was the principle of it that I was upset about and that I was embarrassed when it was the stores fault not mine. She (I believe her name was Jamila or something) became dismissive and turn her back on me and said "have a nice day!". Both of these staff need customer service training badly. I am not upset that she didn't give my mom a $5 discount. Janelle did not handle the store's mistake properly that she made the customer feel uncomfortable when they are the one who made the error.
