On Saturday, I purchased two items as a birthday gift for a friend. Unfortunately, her party was canceled and I was unable to give her the gifts before she had to leave to go back home, so I went back to Ross in Santee Town Center and tried to return the two items using the Gift Receipts that I had attached to the tags for the two items in case they weren't the right color on the right size or whatever. At that time I was informed that I could NOT get a credit back to my debit card, I could only get a store credit, even though I had the gift receipts right there. I DON'T shop at Ross for this very reason because the customer service is sadly lacking and has always been, but she likes this store and I figured it was safe because if she wanted to return something she could. When I escalated the problem to Ross Management I was told the same thing, I could only have store credit. In my opinion, that is NOT good customer service and I will NOT shop at Ross going forward. I have yet to find a Ross store here in San Diego County that had either good customer service or was maintained regularly. the shelves are frequently empty or have the wrong stock on them people just throw things and don't hang clothes up and they just throw them on the floor and leave them there or hang them over the rack and nobody comes behind them to straighten them up. Now I remember why I would not shop there. I would rather donate the items to the Goodwill than except the store credit at this point! one of my biggest regrets is I can't rate this store any lower than one star because they don't even deserve one star!!! read more

Suggestion for improving customer service: There was 2 cashiers. They both took on returns, so anyone purchasing had to wait. The cashier would take each piece of clothing that was being returned and put it on a clothes hanger and then also put a security tag on it. I like going there, but. I've been trying to return my items for the past two weeks at different times, and they keep saying the system is down. There is a lot of selection and the value is excellent. I have been going there for ten years and have never had a problem with this store, but for the past two weeks, it has been. I've never had a bad experience shopping here ever. Until yesterday night. I had just gotten off of a long shift at work and wanted to do some retail therapy. It was good for the most part, until I hear "excuse me" twice. So I turn around and it's a younger, female worker. She had asked me "to put back the things I didn't like where I found it".. to this I was pretty surprised because the things in my hands were things I was going to pay for and all the other things I looked at I kept on the rack for the most part and occasionally taking out a shirt to take a better look at it. It felt as though I had been accused of making a mess because I didn't hear her go around to other customers saying this. Was the cashier Rude or was the cashier racist? Maybe this city does live up to its nickname... "Klantee"... I just moved here, my mum is visiting for the first time. We came to this location to buy her a bathrobe and a bath mat. It is Tuesday so mum showed her ID for the senior discount. The cashier refused to give her discount because I tried to pay with my credit card. I told the cashier my mum is retired on a limited income, I went to my car to get cash. When I came back, the cashier refused to take my money, repeated that mum has to pay. I handed mum the cash, the cashier still refused to paid, said it has to be mum's own money... Mum took out a $25 from her own pocket and finally we were able to get the daily essentials for her... The $25 cash was all she had left for the month... how could you ROSS allow your cashier do that to a senior? I tried to explain to the cashier that in Asian culture, we always paid for our parents, the cashier refused to listen, just didn't care. ROSS, you offer senior discount because you know their income is limited, why would you make it so difficult for children to pay for their senior parents? I just left the Ross and Santee and I was really disappointed with the service that I got there I stopped by here after work. I work at a retail store in Santee and I'm a key carrier there so I know about customer service and how people should be treated and the Night Shift manager that closed the store tonight is the rudest person I've ever dealt with the cashier also did not have good. Customer service looked annoyed, but what I will say is the fitting room. Tenant was excellent very polite, sweet girl. I came up to the fitting room because I had heard them say that they would be closing soon and so I asked the fitting room lady if the fitting room was closed and she said hold on asked on the radio somebody else and then proceeded to say I could enter the fitting room. I had eight items to try on as soon as I got into the fitting room and shut the door I heard them say on the speaker. The fitting room is now closed now I have eight items to try on, so I try on my items and putting them back on the hanger and I come out the fitting room and the security says oh wait there's another customer and the closing manager with blonde haired lady with this terrible look on her face says ma'am you need to go to the register. I said that's where I'm going and I got to the register and then I had my return with my receipt. They said nope. Our system are closed for a return. I said when I walked in, I told the Security if I had to do the return before I shopped, he said no after you come out, I asked the fitting room lady if it was to late to try on clothes she said no it's fine and she also asked for approval first this is ridiculous. They are just being lazy. They could've done the return. They did not want to even ring me up but we have to close our registers ma'am. You need to go and I said OK well there was a glass table thing that I wanted over there. it was too heavy. Can you have somebody grab it for me? They were so annoyed, rolling their eyes just upset irritated wanna go home type a look on their face which I get it I work in retail, but you do not treat people like this paying customers we pay your paycheck. Remember that you don't have any customers at Ross then you don't get paid. You really need to talk to your closing manager and your employees about how they should treat their customers because this is terrible and I've never ever experienced anybody so rude in my life . I didn't expect much coming here since I was still on the hunt for my pair of Champion, but I was also in Santee at the time, so I decided to stop by here, first of the outside building has a different color than regular Ross store, as I come in they have 2 small glass cases for watches and jewelries, nothing much, not even a lot of brand for watches, I saw one CK hidden behind a bunch of other not so famous men brand, zero on women brand, some RayBan, that's it, very little. Then I noticed they have some great Dragon Ball figures that none other places had, seems to be untouched as well, so I did have some hopes for them, as I explored more on the men sides, I did find some hidden brand shoes and slides, they are pretty slow, because no lines at checkout, I wonder how many people in the area actually come and shop here often, which made the place could have got more stuffs in for me to discover, somehow it was fairly alright. They got even less stuffs in the backpack department, but I did end up found a marked down luggage suitcase original Ross price from $49 to $35 on top of whatever it was originally sold before Ross, I consider it a score. Finally they do have a large selection on bedding and blanket, like an entire wall full of them; for this particular location I would just come to buy bedroom and decor, but you won't find any good stuffs for women, no Michael Kors, a few DKNY and that's that. read more

The assistant manager Michelle is extremely rude and unhelpful. The cashier forgot to remove the security tag when I bought a sweater and when I brought it back asking them to remove the tag, Michelle refused to remove it and basically accused me of stealing it. Advice to management: rather than accusing your customers of stealing, give them the benefit of the doubt and train your cashiers to better look for and remove security tags. I will add that the actual security guy at the door was very kind and obviously wanted to help but was steamrolled by Michelle who would not allow him to help. read more

I had a very nice little shopping trip here the other day. I usually go to the El Cajon or La Mesa Ross, but I was in the area and decided to check this location out. I think this Ross is quite big compared to the other locations. The shoe area was definitely bigger and had great selection for every size. Clothing wise I also noticed that they carry a lot more and had a larger selection as well. One thing that kinda annoyed me was that every rack was overfilled to the brim with clothes. So I couldn't slide clothes over to really look at what there was. I love Ross for their great selection of household items like vases, candles, pots, pans, paintings, pillows, you name it. I did think that this was an awesome Ross location and wouldn't mind coming back here again. Like I said my only complain was that there's no space at all on the racks to really browse through clothes. My cashier was also really friendly. Absolutely worst customer service ever. I have never been so upset in my life. My 35 yo daughter who is in a wheelchair out for the first time in a year I was finally able to get her out. You have no wheelchair button to push, but your person at the door refused to help. She stood there laughing while I struggled to get her out. Finally a nice man with his son held the door. This is one of my favorite Ross stores in San Diego due to the fact it is pretty clean for a Ross. I have been to others that were a headache to shop through, but not this one. I have bought a variety of goods here, such as doggie beds, doggie pee pads, housewares and clothes at this location. I will definitely keep coming back! read more

I came here because I saw it as I drove by. I haven't checked out this location yet so I was excited to look at what they had. I found a cute black top for work and a blue jeans shorts on sale. Sold to me! I also found these cool razors you can safely use on your face to get rid of the tiny hairs on your face. I can also use it to clean up my eyebrow hairs. I always leave with something when I shop at Ross. Their selection of clothes was descent and enough. However, their bag section and shoe section was limited. There's a security guy up front making sure no one steals anything at the doors. He also greets you hello as you walk in. This location was neat and organized. It wasn't messy and the lines were short so that was a good thing. I love shopping at Ross! I buy most of my clothing here as well as toys for my daughter. Unfortunately my daughter didn't find anything she liked but score for me. Definitely good deals at this location if you look hard enough. read more

This might be my favorite Ross location! I came here on a weeknight at around 10:30 to find an alarm clock and some new work clothes. I didn't find an alarm clock, but I got some great priced new clothes for my new job I start on Tuesday! Parking was no problem, the dressing rooms were clean and accessible. All the Ross stores are a "hit and miss"for items that I am looking for. For the past six months, I have gone to six different locations every two weeks in search of backpacks that have a zipper on the back that hides AGAINST ONE'S BACK! I guess it is too logical for some people to understand. Why have zippers and pockets for thieves to steal when I can have one with a zipper against my back to store my cash and credit cards? There is NOT ONE brand or model in these store chains that have a zipper on the back of the bag! So sad! Fun store but not fun when I am in search of something specific. read more

I'm giving Ross one star because I want management to know what I observed. I saw several hard working employees servicing customers and one lazy manager who doesn't support his team. A customer had broken a large glass vase. It needed to be picked immediately for obvious safety reasons. The store manager was available and could have easily taken care of it. However, he pulled a staff from helping customers to clean it up. When the employee asked for assistance in getting a dust pan the manager responded he couldn't. I continued to observe the manager do nothing related to service, support, or training. I asked a staff member for his name. I was told his name is Jason and he was the store manager. I have been in business for over 10 years and now the franchise area manager in San Diego County. I focus on business development and customers service training. Based on my experience I question whether Jason is the right person in the right position. At the very least Jason is paid to smile. read more

I cannot remember the last time I went to Ross, but I know now why it's been so long. I had to return a gift, and while the actual return process went quickly (SHOCKING), I spent way too much time trying to find a line in which to wait. There was a huddle of people waiting by the service desk and when I asked if they were in line, they all said yes. As a kindergarten graduate, I know what single file looks like, and this muddled mess of bargain shoppers was far from it. Nevertheless, the sales associates kept picking people at random to help. A few times, a shout of, "We are both open, please make two lines," went out to the crowd. No one moved. I suggested they get some stanchions to spell things out a bit better and you would have think I solved the global food crisis. These people almost made me their mayor. (Maybe that's why my receipt-free return was accepted so easily.) After I received my $7.68 credit, I looked for to something to buy. Nada. I felt like I was in an overpriced thrift store and the lamest thing was in all that crap they had two pieces of 12-month boy clothes and six pieces of 18-month. Totally useless. Middle of the road Ross, not one of the worst, far from the best. Organization is at about 50% half the store is usually a mess, but I usually find something. This one carries a few higher end brands but plenty of low quality items too. They always seem to have security at the front door, they are friendly but makes it feel a little sleazy. I was in the store earlier today and one of the items had the price semi scratched off. I brought the same exact product with the tag for the cashier to ring and she literally held up the line for 20 minutes asking her manager to find a more expensive price because "there was no way the item was that cheap". Unfortunately I did not get her name but she is not doing Ross any favors! Ross is all about customer service and this blonde hair girl, who wears a mask that's clearly too small for her face, has a nasty attitude. Her manager told her to use the EXACT item we brought up and she refused because it was a different size and "she knew the larger size is always more expensive". One of the cleanest Ross Stores I have been in! Everything is easy to find and nothing on the floor to dodge. The Home Accents department is a hit a miss; if you see a picture or metal art...grab it! Next time you go in it will be gone. Friendly staff and they have visible store security; kind of odd for Santee area but I appreciate the fact they keep it safe. I love the deals. I come here at least once a week. However, I'm extremely disappointed in the service. Employees are generally polite and friendly but at check out they are rude and generic. Not once do they look at me or smile and they call the next customer up before I even pull my card out of the reader. It feels very rushed and uncomfortable. I've worked in retail. I was in the area, saw Ross and decided to stop in to pick up some rags. The store was almost empty with a handful of shoppers and one cashier helping a customer that bought a cart full of accessories. I was waiting in line with a couple of things. There were 4 employees standing by the cashier chatting away and none volunteered to help until the cashier called Andrea or Audrea, a young brunette that was unhappy to be called to help. Where is the manager and what happened to the work ethics of these people. What a shame for those who needs a job and would be thrilled to be working at Ross. read more
