I suggest not shopping here and if you do use a different sales person! Then when forced to follow through he did a shitty job had to go to bass pro to get fixed. My husband and I were in the market to both get new bows. We randomly stumbled upon Ross Outdoor online and decided to make the drive out there. We are so glad we did! The staff is so nice and helpful, specifically Jayson. They were all very knowledgeable and helped us get exactly what we were wanting. They set up and let us shoot many different brands of bows. Once we decided on a bow they set everything up from there. Sighted us in, and let us shoot for over an hour, even going past closing time to make sure we were happy. We have gone back to shoot at the range, and they always take their time to help check mechanics and form if they're not busy in the store. Was super excited to check this place out after reading lots of stellar reviews. My husband is taking our oldest archery hunting and wanted to take him in somewhere so he could try out a few bows before we dropped $$$$. We called ahead and asked if we could bring our three kids in. Explained their age and experience level and said we were in the market to purchase but wanted to get to a range first. We called again the morning of and reconfirmed our situation / details and asked about the occupancy at the range. We didn't want to come in with children if it was busy. We were told it was empty; which was confirmed when we got there and there was legitimately no one else there. My husband brought his bow and then asked if we could get help fitting the kids. We were then told "no" and said it was only for those who were going to purchase or had brought their own bows in. While I somewhat understand this response (except that people want to try things like this before buying) I wish this would have been explained before we packed up our three children and drive across the valley. The men working there were not kind or helpful. I'm fact, they all but ignored us the moment they saw we had kids with us. My kids have a love for the outdoors and hunting and a huge desire to learn. Every experience I've had with Ross Outdoors has always been excellent! Family owned and operated, they treat you as if you were a friend that came over to shoot the shit in the backyard. They have always provided good advice and tips to my husband, as well as tossing in a free hat or shirt on occasion for his business. This review isn't about him though, it's about me, and my experience as a 5' nothing first time archer/bow hunter. Let me start by saying- to ALL the ladies out there that shoot and want to improve, or want to learn- THIS IS YOUR SHOP Drop your husband off at Cabellas to sniff around, and drive over to Ross. Why? Because they actually want you to be better than your husband thinks you can be. They want you to drop tacks, skunk him and his friends, and feel so good, and so confident that you will get other ladies interested in this amazing sport. If you don't have a man, need a man or want a man to bother with- this place- and Nate will guide you and help you lean and improve so fast you will shock yourself. Nate is an anomaly in this sport. Just my opinion, not gospel, but he is my current man crush (other than you honey.) He is kind, patient and sooooo freaking tuned into this sport it's freakish. He knows what and why you can't seem to land your shot where you are aiming. He talks in laments terms and makes sure you understand why he's changing things, and what he hopes you to accomplish after. I was an archery virgin. I asked for and received a Bear Finesse for Christmas. It was an eBay find from a man who's wife shot it twice and promptly said- "This sport isn't for me." (Just a long shot- but I bet her husband was trying to teach her to shoot.) I digress.... I walked into Ross and was treated like a customer, not a chick who was drug in by her husband. They got my draw length and poundage set for me, cut my arrows and adjusted my release. I went over to the archery lane to pop my very first shots. My first arrow hit the wall, my second thwacked my arm. Some adjustments were made, and I was actually on the target, kind of. We had to go, so my husband said he would work with me. To his account he was just genuinely trying to help me improve. He never really yelled, much, but, we are married. Married. The ladies reading this understand. Two weeks later I go back into Ross and meet.... NATE. Right off the bat I felt at ease. He worked with me, helped me with my posture and grip, fine tuned my bow, and basically told me to ignore my husband and focus on the basics. By the time I left I was hitting decent groupings at 10 yards. But then I came home, dropped back to 20 yards and sucked. My husband made so many suggestions and tweaks that I was getting frustrated and decided I was the issue, not the bow. Back to Ross, and Nate to figure this all out. After about 10 minutes of observation, Nate saw that my whisker biscuit and pins didn't line up. It was slight, but was the reason my shots were low and left. My peep was also slightly off. We paper tuned my bow, and by the time I left I was nailing tight, tight groupings at 20 yards. Came home, still hitting groupings that I'm very proud of, and finally feel confident and comfortable with my Bear. Moral of my story- Sometimes you just need a place that is as invested as you are in your success. Go to Ross. Every guy in that place knows their shit, and wants you to improve. They will never be a big box store that gets people behind the counter that don't actually shoot. And go see Nate- tell him the short blond chick who brought him cookies sent you. read more

Let me start of by saying I came into this shop without an ounce of knowledge regarding archery/bowhunting and that didn't matter to Nate or Dave. We have all had experience going to a business driven towards a certain sport and have almost felt shunned for not any having knowledge of that sport. That is something I can't say about Ross. When I walked in with the interest of Bowhunting I was apprehensive given past experiences at stores catered to a specific sport but I was wrong. Nate not only educated me in what to look for in a bow, my stance, and how to shoot but also let me try out several bows before I made a decision. I was at Ross for over an hour and not once did I feel like Nate was annoyed helping, on the contrary I noticed his passion for the sport and his care for the customer. To him it was more important that the customer feel comfortable and is paired with the right bow rather than a sell. I ended up placing a bow on a three month layaway so I could slowly accumulate everything needed for the bow and the best part is you can go back at anytime during that period to practice. The store usually always has what you need and if they don't ordering it for you is not a problem. Dave is also very knowledge and he had no problem educating me on arrow building when I told him him I had an interest in it. Small businesses like this are the type you go back to again and again no matter if you can find the same item cheaper online. They care for the customer and therefore I have no problem spending the extra bucks and supporting our local business. read more

I went to Ross already knowing the bow I wanted, but the manufacturing of the bow was incredibly long. As this bow was ordered through Ross, I had to reach out to them periodically to get any updates on the order. After calling 4 times without getting any straight answers, I had to talk to them in person (I live 3 hours away). After doing this 3 times, I ended up just getting the order number from them so I could reach out to the manufacturer myself. The real cherry on top here was that when my bow was finally delivered, they had it for a week without notifying me that they had it, I ended up finding out from the manufacturer. I showed up to pick it up and they half-way set it up. I'm not going to say that they didn't know how to, but it certainly wasn't something they were willing to do for me because from the beginning I was promised a full setup for free when I purchased through them. read more

Dudes in here are professional and real laid back. I got dicked over at another place in Mesa(the one that didn't burn down, and is south of the 60) and they definitely stepped up. I bought my son a bow for his birthday since he has been really interested in archery. With me having no idea about anything archery, I bought the completely wrong setup for him at Cabela's. I went to Ross Outdoors and William helped us out, got us dialed in with the correct bow for my son, set the bow up for him, and helped us to find the right equipment- and actually helped us to save money in getting the right bow setup. He even took my son into the range and showed him the proper way to hold and shoot the bow. William was great, and now that my son is even more excited about archery, I will definitely be visiting William at Ross Outdoors again to work on a bow for myself so I can shoot with my son. Purchased a custom bowstring this year they installed it, paper tuned my bow, put a couple arrows thru the chrono and made sure I was dialed back in to 20 yards. Ross Outdoors is by far the BEST bow shop in town. If you are seriously into target archery/ bow hunting or just flat out new to archery shooting the will get you what you need. Even with my archery knowledge of bow tuning they are still the pro's for my to visit! I'm no beginner in the sport and understand most things on setting up my own bows.... but I have had some complex tuning issues that I've created myself on some of my target bows. Dave Bennett and team have always figured it out and taken the patience to show me what I personally did wrong on setting my bow up and most of all correcting the matter right then and there! I promise you will not see that at any other bow shop in the Phx Metro area. "The usual" at other bow shops is to grab your bow, disappear around a counter or wall to tinker with it. Then they tell you to come back tomorrow to pic up and it will be fixed. Oh, and charge you for something you didn't view being done! One odd thing about that being said is all bows are fitted to the current shooter. Bow tech's need hands on with YOU and your bow to fix most issues relating to your set up. At least 7 out of 10 times. Ross has great stock of all types of bows- Mathews, PSE, Bowtech, Prime and Elites. Set ups for ladies and kids and keep they keep them in stock! Hands down they Beat every other bow shop in town with there pricing as well. But there main thing and you can tell as soon as you walk through the door is COSTUMER SERVICE!!!!!!! This place is great for a new shooter! How do I know? I got my very first bow this season from a buddy, it needed a lot of work to get back in top shape. I took it to Ross Outdoors and they were great. Staff never tried to up-sell me anything. The got me set up right the first time. I left with mid range gear and I still have not felt the need to upgrade. When I had a few 100 shots on my bow I went back to get it tuned and checked. One cool thing about this shop is they cut your shafts same day of you have 15-20 min to wait. They also have a small indoor range, it's perfect to test your gear to make sure it's right before you head out. BONUS they also rent high end glass for your next hunt. read more
