Took my mother in law here to get some good shoes for support and balance. The guy who helped us was so kind, definitely knew the pros of each shoe, and did not mind that she needed to try on about 5 pair. The in-store selection is great! We got Hokas for her, trail running Hokas for me, Patagonia shorts for my husband, and a nice Cotapaxi hat. Very well organized store, we joined the membership and got a coupon. Great experience,,excellent customer service, they are so friendly here they must like working here. Highly recommend!! read more

Ive been an REI member for as long as I can remember and I feel like in the last couple of years, I haven't been as satisfied with their products and services offered in store. Here are the reasons why they only get 3 stars: There's a woman that's worked here for the past 2+ years who initially offered to sign me up for an REI credit card, which would give me 1.5% to REI on my purchases and other perks like $100 REI credit or something, so I agreed. I've come in here fairly often to pick up supplies and she never seems to remember me, not that that matters, but I've had to return items like walking poles that were defective, and most recently, had to exhange out a possibly defective butane portable canister and each time, she's had to have a manager come suss out the situation. Probably it's store policy but I feel like in the last couple of years, their return policy isn't like before. They used to have a no questions asked policy, but these days, it feels like they scrutinize a lot more, probably a lot more people coming in. What was really annoying about the butane container exchange, which the manager did agree to, was the same woman who signed me up for the credit card, said I owed 67 cents or something. I thought I had no rewards since she said I owed money, so I then asked her about my REI credit card awards and I had over $240+ or something. Of course, I would use that! What's even more annoying is that she asked me a second time, are you Vivian? The first time was when she looked into my REI account to exchange out the butane canister and she asked if I was Vivian. No, I didn't have an imposter replace me between when her supervisor came to talk to me about the item and when she exchanged it out. Ugh, that was annoying. A few times I've had store workers help suggest items to me but feels like they don't really truly understand what I need. Awhile ago, I bought a pair of hiking boots and they just aren't really good, even though they are the top of the line French Lowa hiking boots. One thing you should know is that I definitely don't skimp on gear as I need and like high quality items for the outdoor things I do. I also bought a pair of Altra trail running shoes, and they also aren't the best shoes, so they've become my get dirty caving shoes. I was better off with an older pair of Pumas for my running needs. I recall coming in here to purchase a pair of base layer pants this past winter as I was headed to Europe and would partake in some skiing and recall the woman that helped me wasn't that nice as I asked her to take the pair I needed off the mannequin, it was the last pair of small they had. I can't count how many times I have been here as I do a lot of outdoors activities and have a lot of gear, but just feels like lately, this place just isn't really living up to the standards I used to enjoy about this store. It might be time to break up soon honestly...I guess all relationships must end, even the good ones that have gone sour. read more

REI isn't what it used to be. The store now has limited selection/sizes and the service is disappointing. The employees seem miserable, they used to be friendly and helpful. I'm not sure what happened, been a member for a long time, just isn't a great place to shop at anymore. There are now other stores that carry more variety and don't seem depressing to shop at. read more

I'm not a super outdoorsy person but I do enjoy a good hike once in a while and REI has become a go to stop for outdoors supplies. They have a huge selection of clothes, camelbacks, and shoes and a pretty decent membership ($30 as a one time fee, free shipping, longer returns windows, and some other perks plus they usually throw in a $30 gift card after signing up so it's kind of like getting the membership free). Also very helpful and friendly staff. Whether I'm just browsing or looking for something specific, they've always been great. read more

I went around going to a few other stores looking for a new camelpak, and I knew this was the last stop where they definitely had one that fit what I was looking for. Of course, the adventure of taking the morning to explore the entire store, they have so much gear for everyone. I guess this is the place to get anything for your outdoor adventures, as it seemed like there was constantly a line for checkout, even with them running almost at full cashiers. Their employees are always so helpful. I managed to flag one down to ask if they had camelpaks and she walked me over to the section on the cycling side, which if I didn't I would have missed a lot more of a selection. Note: There are two sections for hydration packs. Be sure to check both sections if you're in the market for a new hydration pack. I only wished they had some cleaning tools with brushes and drying tools to keep my new hydration pack in good shape, especially since. it was $100, after the Memorial Day sale. I will also give kudos to the cashier gentleman who really shared the benefits of their $30 membership, but in the end, I don't go there that often...maybe twice a year. read more

I'm a big outdoor guy and frequent shopper of REI (Recreational Equipment Incorporated). I mostly come here for camping and hiking equipment. REI can be a little pricey, but I like that they offer quality products. There are good deals to find if you receive their catalog or emails. This Chandler store is spacious and is one of the nicer REI's that I have been in. REI has been around for decades and sells outdoor equipment for camping, cycling, running, water and snow activities, hiking, climbing, and fitness. The lifetime membership is worth it if you shop here often. You pay a one-time fee to join. There are discounts and rewards offered for being a part of the program. REI does a garage sale a couple times a year where they sell discounted gently used equipment (usually stuff that has been returned). If you are wanting to try something new, REI offers beginner outdoor activity classes each month for a fee. You can also pick up an annual national parks pass here as well. read more

I'm still in disbelief of what service in this store that I've only been in two times. I came in the first time to see the selection of items they had and I was in awe of how much they had paired with the Value. The first trip was amazing, I had two individuals be more than helpful. They were kind enough to educate me on things I was looking for. I even signed up to a member with the girl at the register (Kennedy). From start to finish my first trip was great! I would hate to consider this second trip to ruin it for me but I left feeling so insulted, offended and upset. Billy ruined our experience to the point to where I'm canceling my membership and will not be returning to this location. I brought my husband with the excitement to show him this store after my first visit and Billy ruined it for him to the point where I was so disappointed with how this man ruined it for not just me but my husband. read more

Shoes, clothing, camping, hiking, climbing, kayaking, biking, etc... The store boasts a very large baking area; bike services are available for repairs and 20% discount's are offered to members on shop services. While this COOP can be a little pricey there are always great deals that you need to check out at the clearance areas. All of the items sold at the store are quality and most allow up to a one year return policy. Join the co-op and get discounts on items that are sold at the store. You must stop in and check out this location for all your outdoor activity gear needs Fantastic service in each department. It pains me to write this, but I'll no longer shop at REI nor recommend it. I have been a loyal customer of REI for years, for mostly one reason: their return/exchange policy. If their gear didn't hold up, you took it back and it was replaced. That is no longer true. I paid $100 for a compact camp chair. I owned it for three years, but only used it a few times. I took it out this week, and it ripped in two places, and the stitching came apart. I did as always, took it back to have it replaced. I was told that for most anything you buy at REI now, they won't back it for more than one year. Seriously? For the premium prices you pay for REI gear, I was only willing to shop there because of their great return/exchange policy. So I won't be shopping at REI any more. I can get my outdoor gear elsewhere cheaper. Bye Bye, REI. You took away my reason for buying your expensive gear. Bye Bye, REI. read more

This is the closest REI store to me and I've always had a pleasant experience up until now: It took someone about 7-10 minutes to tell me where the socks are to try on shoes. When I finally did that then I got the attention from the associate tending to the shoe section. The store is always neat, orderly, and the selection is great! They also have great deals on bought back gear and especially if you are an REI-Co Op member you unlock way more deals and store credit as well! read more

Everyone I know swears by REI... but I have been really unimpressed so far. 1. Their prices are *always* higher than your local hiking shop. There are several in the valley, Sedona, etc. where you can get the exact same product for 10-15% less. 2. I signed up for a membership (while making a several hundred dollar purchase) and was given the $30 gift card to take off a future purchase. I paid no attention to an expiration date as "gift cards" generally don't have those. I had also purchased everything I needed for the foreseeable future. The card expired and when I asked about using it anyway (which Kohl's, Walgreens, Bed, Bath and Beyond, and every other big box store in the world lets you do) they said no. No 20% off coupon. No using the expired card (even though I missed it by like a week). Just no. Okay... fine. 3. Purchased some used gear on another occasion. The price on it could've been a 3, could've been an 8, could've been a 9. As it was used gear - it was completely subjective as to what the price was - the barcodes on used gear don't dictate the price - they key it in. It mostly looked like a 3 as there was also an 8 and a 9 on the same price tag. Guess which he chose to use when ringing it up, even though I asked if it was a 3? The 9. Ohhhhkay... dollar billing me to death yet again, I see. 4. This most recent interaction is why I am even posting this review. I bought a BRAND NEW, grossly overpriced jacket last week. I loved the d@mn thing so I used my 20% off coupon + my REI return money to buy the jacket. My _car was stolen_ over the weekend (that's right, the tags were barely off that puppy) with my new jacket in it. I thought, "Hey, maybe they will let me re-use the 20% off on the same jacket because, why not? They get more money out of me... I get to replace my jacket..." Guess what? They told me I need to deal with my car's insurance. ... No, really?! Items inside of vehicles are covered by homeowners, not auto. ~ The jacket was expensive but not *that* expensive. Yes, these are all first world problems. Big box stores are, sometimes, a necessary evil. In this instance - I'll pass. It's not that much effort to go shop small / local and stop playing footsie with a business that pretends to care but at the end of the day... doesn't. read more

Well, most of us who shop at REI know that they are extremely liberal compared to the average population. Their products are massively overpriced. I literally bought some thing that I first looked at there for 100, I bought it at a larger size from eBay or Amazon, 1/3 to cost. Prompts me to write the review, is that I looked at at a product they had that was in many bright colors. I asked them whether it was pride or LGBT related. I am an avid REI shopper and have visited multiple stores across multiple states. First time visiting this location, and on a whim, wanted to stop in and get some info about their Re/Supply program. The woman who helped me out was SOOO awful to work with. I had some questions about how their ReSupply program worked but felt so judged and looked down on.. Sorry I didn't know all your rules, but don't be mad at me, how would I have known if the website doesn't explain anything besides how much credit I could get??... This lady was so off-putting that I do not ever want to go through their ReSupply program, let alone set foot through the threshold of their door. At the end of the day it's not a big issue, but the customer service just felt so yucky all around. So as a customer (and as a human person with feelings!) I would rather choose to take my service elsewhere. Not to mention the stalking they do when you walk around the store. I'm not going to steal from you?? Not sure if this was because of some type of profiling or what, because after asking if you need help, they seriously just stalk and watch you shop, but miraculously are nowhere to be found when you actually need something from them. If this is policy, then at least stalk your customers but send a smile their way, not look at me like you think I'm going to run out with the merchandise, but I digress. I have been a lifetime member since 2013 and active duty Air Force for the past 20 years. I have moved 11 times and visited multiple REIs, but nothing compared to this place. I'm not sure what was worse, the inventory or the customer service. I drove from the northwest side of the valley to pickup a new snow helmet after leaving mine at my sisters in Mammoth Lakes. After wondering around the store for about 10 minutes and not being able to locate them, I found two store associate discussing a guy they met at the bar the night before. I waited there patiently while they finished their conversation, but that didn't happen. I walked away and went to the checkout and asked for assistance. He brought me to the same two employees who seemed visibly annoyed that they had to stop their conversation briefly to tell me, "we do not have snow helmets here, it doesn't snow here." I explained, "I get it, we're in Phoenix and it doesn't snow here, but Snowbowl is 2 hours north where it does snow.. very similar to Colorado Springs beings 2 hours south of Breckenridge and they have a large inventory of snow gear." The REI rep went on to say to just get it online, which is an option but I do not like purchasing helmets without trying them on with my goggles. Long story short, I'd be lying if I said I was not going to shop at REI again, but the truth is I will not be shopping at the REI in Chandler nor do I recommend it to anyone. read more

Not one to usually leave reviews but it's hard not to when I felt super uncomfortable shopping. I have an early trip tomorrow morning so I came into REI looking to buy some shoes that I have been wanting so that I'm all prepared for my trip and maybe also I wanted to buy a jacket. I'm a woman walking around with my daughter in her nice stroller and an older woman employee was following me around everywhere as if I'm going to steal ? She just stared at me and stood in front of me and didn't say ANYTHING, just looked at me. I wanted to go that direction so I said, "okay? I'll go this way then I guess..." and went around. She still said nothing. I went over to the shoes wanting to buy Hoka transports in size 6.5 in a certain color way and a middle-aged woman with brown hair helped me after rudely asking, "can I help you?" She was standing directly in front of the shoes I was trying to look at for a decent time just completely unaware I was waiting there to look. I thought it was nice she grabbed me a 6 in the color way I wanted and a 6.5 in a different color way so I could make sure they were the right size. The 6.5 was a fit for me but not in my preferred color so I gave them back and said thank you for helping. I told her I will pass on the shoes since my trip is in the morning. (Im going to a different store that had them in stock) When I turned around just browsing the clearance rack, I heard her rudely judge me and say, "I don't know why you would need shoes in that specific color way tomorrow morning???? But ok? " her tone was SO RUDE. I need them because I'm going on a trip that I need new shoes for and I'm not interested in spending money on a color way I don't like? I felt SUPER judged and treated horribly. I was really excited to buy lots of stuff for my outdoor vacations at REI but never again. Horrible and rude customer service. read more

I never post reviews but experienced the worst customer service of my life, I'm still in shock! I'm a member of REI and have been for a few years. I brought my 9 year old daughter in this evening after work and camp to browse and scope out some hiking shoes for her and running shoes for me. I also had a reward to use. We weren't greeted when we walked but didn't think much. We headed towards the shoes and just barely looked at the shelves when a young worker came over immediately and what we were looking for I said just browsing as I didn't need any sizes yet as I hadn't even looked at the display. He was so rude and appeared completely bothered to even be working. He came over multiple times al through I didn't request assistance or need any yet. I asked for some sizes as I felt pressured to do so, found some hiking shoes for my daughter he threw the boxes down at us but we weren't too fazed just puzzled. I then headed to look over at the women's running shoes. He came over and asked if I needed help again I said I've been contemplating a few brands (brooks versus ON) he didn't even make eye contact said "yeah" then sat down on the bench (where you try on shoes) and sat in his phone. I was absolutely over it asked for two different pairs to try on, both of which he threw down on the bench, settled on a pair and checked out. Even my 9 year old felt like we were a bother to be there. We are very easy customers and I felt very unwelcome and pressured. The woman cashier however was great, but this guy needed a serious customer service course. read more

This place IS the store to get all your quality and reputable outdoor gear. We come here a lot specifically for hiking gear. From boots, socks, jackets, shirts, and more socks.. you name it they'll more likely have it. The clothes and equipment that we've bought are very durable and made with high quality materials. Their return policy and exchange is the best if you need it. They'll go 100 percent on customer service and deliver it with the products that they sell. I'd suggest getting the one time membership, and earn those points. Receive discounts and keep track on your purchases. Products are little higher priced but you get quality. read more

If you are a members they have a section called "Garage Sale" where it is lightly used items that were returned. They are at a discounted price. The garage sale area seemed to have some stuff that was more than lightly used, so it turned me off. No first responder or military discounts. read more

Finally made it to an REI. Dh needed shoes, that were good, and will last. So of course it made sense to visit REI. We have been members since our son introduced us to REI. Great quality and excellent advice. Since dh was shopping for shoes I knew had LOTS of time to explore. This location seemed smaller than the Albuquerque and Santa Fe stores, but still had plenty of products. While I was there I found a drinking attachment for my Yeti bottle. Yay! Now I found it easier to use my gigantic water bottle, I did not know this attachment existed. Seeing all the stuff actually got me to thinking I may want to try camping. I love the glamping promo that was going on in the store. Anyway dh was able to finally find the shoe that was right for him and we were able to get going. I told him of all the things I had found in the store. We knew we would be back. Store is clean and employees friendly. read more

Shopping at REI is similar to shopping in a department store....the staff (who are extremely friendly) are always popping up when you enter a new department to ask you if you need assistance. I think I got stopped at least five times while browsing gear. I enjoy taking my time and browsing uninterrupted, seeking assistance only when I need it, so I avoid places like these. The shop is incredibly clean and I love how they limited how many guests entered the stores during COVID (i think our wait was only half an hour outside). Found this little gem this past weekend- a Trigger point massage recovery tool! I think I have walked by this 15x and have always wondered what the heck it was (nope not a sheep herder!)- well now that it worked wonders on me last night and was able to get out 4 trigger points/ knots in my neck and shoulders- I went back and purchased 3 more as gifts for friends and family members who get back aches and sore muscles in hard to reach areas. Regularly $32.00- now it's 25% off! Such a great gift idea and so glad I have my own... I might need one at my office next! I'm a member and employees seemed to be accusing me of trying to steal maybe judging by the way I look or whatever it might have been, even made me feel the need that I had to prove that the arcteryx coat I walked in with was already mine. Made me feel extremely judged. Will honestly be revoking my membership with them now and strictly go through any of their brands from their distribution directly or any other business that sells any related items. One employee even grabbed the clothes from my hands and was checking them. Maybe I look too poor for them even tho I have purchased for them many of times from their highest quality brands. When it came time to check out he lied said his terminal wasn't on and I had to walk across the store to the main checkout despite the fact that I was obviously handicapped. Customer service is top-notch and Cole deserves a huge shoutout for being so patient with me and grabbing me way too many shoes/sizes from the back! He's awesome and easy to work with, so if you need new trail/road running shoes (or hiking shoes/boots), then go see him! Love this place! Got more into hiking this year and decided to invest in a pair of hiking boots. Ended up with the Salomon OUTline Mid GTX Hiking Boots. Love them! They make such a big difference when hiking. Got their membership & it's been worth it. I've since bought little things like hydro flasks, socks etc from them & appreciate the sales/coupons they offer. I found out you can also rent camping gear from them which is really nice. I recommend shopping during their anniversary sale May 21-31 to score some sweet deals! read more
