We recently lost our mother which, of course is not easy and she did have a painful last couple of weeks. But I could not have asked for any better place for her to be than Rossmoor Post Acute. The staff was so attentive and kind to her. Getting her medication adjusted was tough, but the staff really stuck with her. The CNA's always came when requested. The nursing staff was professional and kind. The therapists that we interacted with were skilled and seemed so devoted to their jobs. I would highly recommend them. read more

I chose Rossmoor Post Acute after visiting and comparing it with another post-acute facility in Walnut Creek. The deciding factor was simple but important: Rossmoor felt like a true medical care facility, while the other location felt more like a modern senior or retirement center. Given my father's condition, he needed real medical care--not just a nice environment--and Rossmoor clearly fit that need. From the very beginning, the level of service exceeded my expectations. Steve Stock, the General Manager, was outstanding. He gave me his mobile number and told me to text him anytime if something came up. That alone speaks volumes. I did my best not to reach out unless it was truly necessary, but whenever I did, he addressed every issue promptly and thoroughly. Not a single request was missed. I honestly don't know how he stays so organized, but he does--and it shows. One thing that really mattered to us was consistency with medications, and Rossmoor delivered. All medications were always administered correctly and on time, without exception. That level of reliability brought a lot of peace of mind. The food was also decent--better than expected for a medical facility--and whenever there was an opportunity to make things a little better or more comfortable, the staff consistently went the extra mile. The staff across the board were excellent. Every single person we interacted with was professional, kind, and clearly well trained. Special thanks to nurses Nadia, Carly, Roxanne, Marielle, and Gia--each one was outstanding and made a difficult time much easier for our family. The PT and OT staff were also fantastic--thank you Erica for your patience and care. Thanks to the laundry staff and the front desk team as well; their work doesn't go unnoticed. Bottom line: I highly recommend Rossmoor Post Acute to anyone who needs true post-acute medical care. Dangerous Neglect and Dismissive Staff My mother was admitted to Rossmoor Post Acute for PT and OT following hip replacement surgery. What should have been a safe recovery environment turned into a distressing and potentially dangerous situation within hours of admission. Less than two hours after we left for the evening, my mother called in desperation asking us to return. She had been pressing the call button repeatedly for over 40 minutes and called out to multiple staff members who walked past her room. She needed help getting to the restroom, a basic need that became urgent. Every request was ignored. By the time someone finally responded, she had been waiting nearly an hour. For a patient recovering from hip surgery, this delay could have resulted in a serious fall or UTI. When my mother requested to speak with the night supervisor about ensuring proper care, Head Nurse Itza F. came to address the situation. Instead of acknowledging the failure in response time, she blamed my mother, claiming she "hadn't hit the button correctly" and reminding us there were other patients. We tested the call button, and it was working perfectly and my mother had the hand strength to use it properly. What made this encounter even more troubling was Itza's behavior. When she arrived, she initially spoke with my mother, but as soon as I entered the room, she stopped addressing my mother and directed her responses to me instead, despite my mother being the one speaking to her. My mother was fully alert, competent, and clearly advocating for herself. When I redirected Itza to speak directly to the patient, she became dismissive and aggressive, clicking her nails and waving her hands at my mother and me in a condescending manner. She took zero responsibility and made it clear she would not be accountable for my mother's well-being. This is not just poor customer service; this is a failure of basic patient care and dignity. A post-surgical patient should never wait an hour for bathroom assistance. Staff should never ignore calls for help. And a medical professional should never gaslight a patient or treat them with such disrespect. I was extremely uncomfortable leaving my mother at Rossmoor Post Acute after this experience, and we took the initiative to ensure her safety and care by transferring her out of the facility. If this is the standard of care in the first two hours, I fear for patients who don't have people able to advocate for them. Rossmoor Post Acute needs serious management intervention and staff retraining. Patients deserve better than this. read more

I am extremely frustrated with the experience my family has had here. Communication has been almost nonexistent--calls go unanswered, and getting any kind of update about my dad's condition or care has been unnecessarily difficult. It feels like we are being ignored when all we want is basic information and transparency. On top of that, it's unclear why my dad continues to be kept here. We have not been given clear explanations or timelines, which only adds to the stress and confusion. Families deserve to be part of the conversation, not left in the dark. Overall, this situation has caused a lot of unnecessary anxiety. I strongly urge the facility to improve communication, responsiveness, and clarity around patient care decisions. read more

We started off in a tough spot moving Mom to her care here. None of these facilities are perfect so as far as care goes if you keep on top of everything you should be able to get the care your loved one needs. Make sure and fill out an inventory of clothing and supplies you are bringing into the place when going through the admittance process. Our Moms clothes we lost in the laundry but thankfully they have reimbursed us for the full amount after showing our receipts for prior purchases. If I did have a concern it was addressed promptly. read more

My mom is just finishing up her second week here and we are so grateful for this facility. At 80 years old she broke her pelvis and after being hospitalized for a week, she was transferred here. We were very wary at first as we had never experienced a skilled nursing facility. My mom has had the most wonderful experience with very caring, dedicated and sweet nurses, CNAs, PTs and OTs. She went in having to wear diapers and now she is using the bedside commode and with help, the bathroom in her room. The PTs and OTs are top notch (shout out to Adrian) and the Nurses and CNAs are so sweet, caring and bring a lot of fun and laughs to what is a horrible injury and experience. Shout out to Flor, Genie, Reuben, Jenny, Brianna, Colletta, Destiny, Suvarna, Gia and so many more!!! Lorna at the front of the house has been so helpful and ensured my mom got transferred to a beautiful room on the first floor after a few nights of sharing a room. I highly recommend requesting a private room, which is a game changer. I have to say I look forward to visiting my mom every day as she shows so much progress and I love hearing all her stories about the sweet night nurses, the laughs she has with the staff when she's going potty, etc. They make the most uncomfortable situations (changing diapers, helping with toilet trips) comfortable and no big deal. The only slightly negative is the food - sometimes its good, sometimes not so good. But, I give them credit - they are feeding a lot of patients and I'm sure do not have the budget for fancy or organic ingredients. That said, I'd take this facility any day over a facility with delicious food. My mom's here for care, OT, PT and not a culinary experience! If you or a loved one finds themselves in this or any facility I would highly recommend doing the following: (1) Keep an upbeat, positive attitude; (2) Express gratitude and appreciation to the hardworking staff - they are doing their very best and have a lot of patients! (3) Research and talk to individuals who have been there so you know what to expect and learn some "secrets" - for instance, we knew that it was best to label her clothes and/or have a family member do laundry as it is a big facility and not perfect when it comes to this. (4) Keep everything in perspective - there is no perfect skilled nursing facility - so make sure you are clear on your priorities - to us that meant professional, caring and experienced staff, and the option to have a private room if one was available. Love this place and will update my review when she is discharged - it could be a few more weeks for sure. read more

After 12 days in the hospital in early December, my husband moved to Rossmoor Post Acute (RPA) where he stayed for 4 and 1/2 weeks. We chose RPA because it offered a private room and had a 5-star rating (for what, we now wonder). However, when he arrived, the private room wasn't available and that was just the beginning of the disparities between what was allegedly offered and the reality of "not much." We could provide similar details listed in other reviews (e.g., lukewarm, repetitive meals, ignored call buttons, confusion among the staff about what (e.g., therapy sessions, doctor visit), if anything, was happening and when, etc.). But, I'll add a few other examples to round out the picture. My husband's room was cold (even colder than the hallway outside), and the staff repeatedly said nothing could be done about it because of the way the heating was designed. Requests for repairs (e.g., broken lamp, refilling soap dispenser, etc.) were ignored. Twice, my husband had issues that needed immediate attention but that RPA was unable to deal with. In the first, his PICC line came out and, in the other, he had a nosebleed that couldn't be staunched until EMS summoned. Both of those situations seem like they might be somewhat common in a Skilled Nursing Facility and that someone on staff should be capable of dealing with them. Another time, my husband needed a procedure which he'd had before and which the RPA attending physician ordered. A RPA nurse phoned me and told me it would be happening the next day and that I needed to take my husband to the hospital for it. We were unable to get more information about the procedure (e.g., time) from RPA, so I phoned our insurance company who informed me that no request for the procedure had been made by either the attending physician or RPA. I contacted the physician who said RPA was responsible for scheduling the procedure and RPA said the physician was. In the end, we made the appointment ourselves and the hospital contacted the insurance company. I wanted updates on my husband's progress but there was no one and no system (like a MyChart) to provide that information. Since my phone messages on that went unanswered, I sent an email requesting how to get that information (and bemoaning the lack of organization about who was responsible for what and food issues) but never received a response. On the positive side, I made several phone calls, and my husband was moved to a private room within two days of his arrival at RPA. Again, with the PICC and nosebleed episodes, I made several phone calls, and my husband got the help he needed. But, what about those patients who do not have someone to advocate for them? Despite the flaws in the "care" at RPA, my husband found many of the staff caring and professional. Delia (occupational therapy) and Kerks (physical therapy) were especially helpful. My father was at this facility for approximately 2 1/2 months. The care he got during that time was excellent. I got to know the staff well and they truly care about their residents and strive to improve their health and well being. There were always plenty of staff on hand and available to respond to any requests or questions we had. It truly became a home away from home. I am truly grateful to this facility for guiding my father back to health and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place for their loved one. read more

I was a post acute patient at the Rossmoor post acute in Walnut Creek for 3 weeks and was severely neglected. My ability to articulate my medical needs was disregarded that ended up with giving me medication that had ben discontinued by my doctor. the food was cold and unrecognizable. I would not eat it. I believe that I was discriminated based on medical insurance just placed in a part ware you barley get basic needs broke bed, limited to no personal care. read more

i was a patient for 28 days, starting in early February. it is a clean facility. There seem to be an over abundance of Indians but not enough chiefs. I never knew who was supposed to provide what care. I was fortunate to have a bed with a window, which I really enjoyed. OT and PT were great. the food needs improvement! Ii never know there were so many ways to serve and disguise chicken, which was often cold! all in all, it was as good an experience as it could have been but hope i don't have to go back! read more

This is a clean place but most of the staff members aren't train nor capable to treat and help the needed and sick patients.

This is my first stay in a long term care facility so I have nothing to compare it with. Although there are some people here that are very nice that really care about their job, most seem over worked, underpaid and really dont care. The facility itself is very clean, but the quality of care is lacking. On multiple occaisions I have laid here for over an hour trying to get help and medicine I need to manage pain. I suspect this is a management problem. Based on the quality of the food they are trying to save every penny they can. Tonights dinner consisted of 1 piece of deep fried chicken thigh, kale and bean salad. I have attached a picture for skeptics. I will recover from my injuries and leave this place, but I feel sorry for people like my roommate who is 64 years old and suffered a devastating stroke 2 years ago. He will never leave here. My advice is thoroughly vet these places and maybe take care of your aging or injured family members. read more

I am writing on behalf of four therapists who have given me outstanding care. Two, O.T.s named Daeja and Karen, worked with me on some house keeping efforts such as getting to the bathroom, using the commode, brushing my teeth, washing my face and exiting the bathroom and some basic exercises to stimulate and strengthen my upper body. The other two are P.T.s, Anita and Manali Director of Rehab, who have concentrated on helping me improve my walking, which is pretty terrible right now, but is improving with practice and getting out of chairs in getting better too. The two were patient and very helpful and gave me agency over the chair process. And both were efficacious in helping me be aggressive in walking. All four of the therapists were mindful of my physical limitations and kind and pleasant to work with. They are all truly professional. In addition, my primary R.N., Nadia, who is simply the best R.N., has given me good advice that has been much help in accomplishing my goals for therapy. John Oppedahl read more
