For my first "meal" in Vegas, my foodie friend and I split from our group and walked over to this…read moresmall bar area in the Grand Bazaar. There's a small kitchen area where the menu is and where you place your order. Cooks are viciously making the orders that others are placing, and you can hear the constant sizzling of hot dogs on their grills. They have bar seating on the other side along with a bunch of tables close by but they were all taken since it was prime dinner time at 7:30pm on The Strip and people were walking all around the area. We decided to eat over at a nearby taco joint in the end. Both of us got their D.U.I. Dog, which has pastrami, carne asada, cheddar cheese, bacon bits, a ton of cilantro and chipotle aioli (a mayonnaise kind of sauce). Very packed with flavor with all the meats inside, and the cheese melts so well inside the hot dog. They even put this inside a relatively big carton container, the same kind I've seen the staff put their D.U.I. Fries in... holy crap those are some huge portions! For $18 before tax though, this hot dog was already slightly massive for its size, at just about a foot long. Very nice start to a great time in Vegas! Also a great hot dog stand with immensely tasty dogs.

Then she dipped Skin-on Skinny French Fries in the sauce. I enjoyed a Combo #4, which included my own generous serving of French Fries after applying some ketchup to them, along with a classic Chicago Dog, to which I added some Yellow Mustard (but of course no ketchup). Then I directed my attention to a 3-1/2 inch dipped Italian Beef Sandwich festooned with Sweet Green Bell Peppers, Sauteed Onions, and melted Mozzarella Cheese. Here "dipped" means drenched in very tasty au jus. I washed everything down with a Pepsi Zero. Service was friendly and quick, and all food arrived hot and well prepared. We arrived hungry at sundown, and left well contented after nightfall.

Unfortunately, after my last two visits, I will not be returning. The first bad experience happened about a month ago. I hadn't been in for several months, and from the moment my boyfriend and I walked in, the energy felt unwelcoming. The cashier was very short with me when I ordered. I initially brushed it off because I thought maybe she was tired or simply having a bad day. What stood out, though, was what happened when a white customer came in afterward. The interaction was completely different. The staff greeted her warmly, were friendly, patient, and engaging with her. My boyfriend noticed the difference as well. Still, I decided not to make an issue out of it and gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. Today I returned by myself, and unfortunately, I noticed the same pattern again. The same cashier was short with me, particularly when I asked a question. Again, I let it go. Then another white woman came in and received a noticeably warmer greeting and much friendlier treatment from the staff. Shortly afterward, another woman of color came in and asked the cashier a question about how a sandwich was prepared. The cashier responded so abruptly that the woman said something along the lines of, "I just asked a question. You didn't have to get short with me." Instead of simply clearing up the misunderstanding, an employee from the back jumped into the conversation and pointed toward a sign explaining the sandwich preparation. The entire interaction felt unnecessarily rude and dismissive over a simple question. Then came my own food. While waiting, I watched the staff scrape together the remaining fries that had been sitting there and bag them before the rest of my food was ready. A fresh batch of fries was made afterward. When my order was called, I politely asked if I could have some of the fresh fries instead. The cashier told me, "These are fresh." I explained that I had watched the fries being bagged before the new batch came out and simply asked again if I could have fresh ones. Her response was to make a face, turn around, and tell the other employee, "Just give her fresh fries. Just give her fresh fries to get her out of here." That was it for me. I wasn't yelling. I wasn't being disrespectful. I wasn't causing a scene. I asked for fresh fries after literally watching a fresh batch come out. There was absolutely no reason to speak about me that way, especially while I was standing right there. One uncomfortable interaction can be written off as someone having a bad day. Two visits where I observed noticeably different treatment toward customers, along with watching another woman of color receive the same dismissive attitude, is much harder for me to ignore. I can only speak to what I personally experienced and witnessed, but the difference in how customers were treated made me feel extremely unwelcome and uncomfortable. After being a returning customer who genuinely enjoyed having a little taste of Chicago here in Vegas, that is incredibly disappointing. The food is not worth being made to feel like my business is unwanted. I will spend my money somewhere that treats every customer with the same basic courtesy and respect. I will not be returning.

My husband and I were early for an appointment so I said please can we get a hot dog!? As we pulled up just before 11, Denise the owner was still setting up. We asked if it was a drive thru or if we park and walk up - she said we could do whatever gets us to the window. While she was setting up and taking our order she chatted with us and gave us some history. She told us she also baked cakes and brownies. We ordered 2 Chicago dogs and a frozen lemonade- which she said is from Rhode Island. Our hot dogs came with our name wrote ontop with mustard. Denise thanked us for stopping by and said as her first customer of the day, she gave us a free mini cake and brownie. She was awesome and I am glad to read below that Chilly Jillys is also in her family. We will definitely be back!
