There were several miscommunications regarding our order (for example, my wife wanted three enchiladas, beef, chicken, and cheese, and the waitress said the meal only has two enchiladas, then brought out a plate with two chicken and one cheese). They didn't have some items that are standard at mexican restaurants, like sour cream sauce for enchiladas and charro beans. And they charged way too much for little extras - my friends asked for cheese for their little one, they brought 3 tablespoons of shredded cheddar and charged $1.25. Local food with family service in a nice outdoor setting is not enough to prop up bland flavors and mediocre drinks. Looking for dinner in Carlsbad after a driving day to see the caverns, we came across Rosy's down the street from our BnB. It's brightly colored paint and banners were welcoming enough. Covered, outdoor seating was available, visible in the front. The patio area is cooled with a large fan that has some air conditioning pumped through it, making the area pleasant to sit in, even with the high of 108 degrees that day. We ordered a Mechalada, a beer-based bloody mary drink that she enjoyed. I went for the "Original" Margarita which was strong enough, but tasted very much like a store-bought mix. Our server was very sweet and helpful, but also 15 years old and unable to advise us on the drinks. She did very well, but we probably should have asked for some assistance for drink recommendations. The chips were crisp and salty and the salsa was interesting, though a little spicy for me (not surprising, I'm def a spice lightweight and this is New Mexico after all). The menu contained several interesting dishes I'd not heard of. Being from Fort Worth, we are inundated with TexMex, which reduces down to a very repetitive set of menu items. I was excited to try something different and went for the Mecado, a robust mix of meats with corn tortillas. It was quite delicious. The dish came with three tortillas, which was not hear enough. I waited five minutes for a server to come by, finally flagged one down who apparently forgot my request. So, I had to go in the kitchen to ask for additional tortillas. My main complaint is that while the Mecado was delicious, the rice, beans, and pico were as bland and generic as they could be. This is a rule for me with Mexican food. Rice and beans are typically half or more of the plate (2/3 in this case). If they don't make them flavorful I feel ripped off. She had a burrito which was ok. There are some other reviews extolling the food, so it's possible we ordered the wrong things to give Rosy's a fairer review. read more

I'm from Southern California and have to say, this salsa Verde is the best I've ever had! I'm allergic to tomato so asked for the Verde for chips. My son loved the regular salsa with his chips. We ordered the fajitas. The meat was great but it was about 80% peppers and onions and 20% meat. The service was also not great. Our waitress only checked on us like 2 times. The worst part for us was the pricing. It was quite deceitful. They charge $1 for every tortilla and don't tell you and only give you 1 to start with. The beans and rice are also $2.50 each so we spent an extra $10 on what should've come with the meal. Oct 20 2021 at around 3:00pm. We were recommended to go to this restaurant from hotel stay. Ordered fajita plate. Only ate two bites because meat was too tough. 95% was still left on the plate. Manager still wanted me to pay for the food. I told him I would not and he said the fajitas were tough because of the cut of beef. He was trying to compare me to another customer who did not want to pay. In the end I only paid for my friend's plate after our refusal to pay for mine. If you want to fight over being charged for an adult meal when you ordered your 9 year old a kids meal. And the server agreeing it's a kids meal, the manager arguing that it was an adult meal. Service was awful. Had to ask for refills and not getting them all. The enchiladas were to spicy for the kids to even eat. Ending up over paying for not great food and going to taco bell to get the kids fed. I wouldn't recommend anyone going.
