    3 Meat Dinner

Lived in Carlsbad for Two years now and just barely found this place! Took my wife here for dinner and we loved it. The service was fast, the people were nice, and the food was great. I got a large sweet tea along with the 3 meat dinner, my wife got a chop brisket sandwich and the French fries. Flavors were amazing and the portions for the price were even better. We will definitely be coming back here again!

    Ribs and Brisket Dinner

First time at Danny's and had the rib and brisket platter. The ribs were cooked perfectly and pulled nicely from the bone. The rub formed a nice crust that complimented the pork well. The brisket was really dry and I mostly got lean pieces. The meat pulled apart nicely but was dry with little smoke flavor. I wouldn't get the brisket again. The sides were ok. The potato salad had good flavor but the red bell pepper just wasn't a great pairing. The coleslaw was creamy but needed a little more salt and vinegar. The French fries were not good at all. They were thick cut but the oil may have been old that they were fried in. They weren't really seasoned either. In the end Danny's was just ok. I've eaten bbq all over the country and know what is good and what isn't. Danny's ribs are worth eating again. I tried some ham which was good but lacked smoke flavor like the brisket. The sauces were also ok but nothing special. The sweet sauce tasted like Sweet Baby Rays and the vinegar based sauce had a little kick but nothing special or memorable. My suggestions would include taking the bell pepper out of the potato salad, make thinner, fresh cut fries that a seasoned, and try to get some more smoke flavor into the meats. I've eaten as Joe's in Kansas City, Scott's in South Carolina, and Mad Jacks in New Mexico which nailed it with everything on the menu.

Mixed plate with ribs, pulled pork, potato salad, pinto beans & toasted bread.

I stopped in after spending the day at Carlsbad Caverns. My server was very nice and my food arrived shortly after ordered. I had the mix plate with pulled pork and ribs. My sides were potato salad & beans, along with a big piece of toasted bread, a pickle, onion, & cherry pepper. The ribs were good, but not hot. The pulled pork was very dry. I was surprised to get pinto beans instead of baked beans; however, they were very good. The potato salad was just okay. I'm southern, so I tend to be picky about my potato salad. The bread was hot and delicious---the best thing on my plate.

Great bbq. When we walked in, it was almost empty, with only 2 tables with customers. Very glad we stayed. The staff were nice and there was a nice homey feeling. We had brisket and ribs. The meat melts in your mouth, and the sweet sauce hit the spot. I wanted to get some food to take home when leaving Carlsbad, but they were closed. : (

We are in Carlsbad for the weekend. The lady at the Living desert zoo gift shop recommended this place for a great bbq restaurant in carlsbad. Went here for lunch and ordered ribs. Wow, ribs were so tender and just so good. Definitely a great BBQ treat. Highly recommended!

One BBQ Meat Dinner Plate Pork Ribs Side of Fried Okra Side of Coleslaw

Came here on a Wednesday evening for dinner on our roadtrip to Carlsbad Caverns. Got the pork ribs with cole slaw and fried okra. Pork ribs had sweet bbq sauce and a nice smoky flavor to it but didn't have as much meat or "fall off the bone" texture as compared to some other bbq places I have been to. Cole slaw was really good - sweet and tasty! Fried okra was ok - could have had more seasoning. Waffle cut sweet potato fries were delicious - our server Kayleigh suggested trying it dipped in maple syrup, which made it taste like Eggos waffles! Service was quick and Kayleigh was very attentive! Food was probably closer to three stars but the awesome service made it a four! Price wasn't too expensive and there was a good amount of food that made sure we were full after eating here.

After a gorgeous day of hiking and opening an appetite Danny's was just right. We shared the 3-meat combo: ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. The ribs were excellent, brisket and pulled pork a bit dry. Bob loved the beans and potatoes salad was not that great and is because we are not miracle whip people. We both loved the salad, fresh and crisp. Did I mentioned we loved the ribs? The servers were attentive, maybe a little overly so. Stop by if you are in the Carlsbad area. We drove from south of White city about 53 miles for this good meal.

Mix Dinner Plate: Pork Ribs, Brisket, Fried Okra, Coleslaw, and Dinner Roll.

Wow, this place is amazing! To start off, the fellow taking our order was so friendly and cheery; he asked us what car we were in, so that our food would be brought out to us while we waited outside due to COVID-19. He had a great attitude and was very helpful while we were deciding what to order. I got the Mix Dinner ($15.50), which comes with two choices of meat and two sides with a dinner roll. For my meats, I chose pork ribs and brisket. Both super tender, smokey, flavorful, juicy, and just fell off the bone the moment it touched my lips --yum! For my sides, I opted for fried okra and coleslaw. I'm a sucker for both of these, and they were top notch. The fried okra were bite-size and super crunchy while the coleslaw was light and refreshing. Everything was so delicious, including the dinner roll! Also, I loved the addition of the pickle and onion on the side, which is available upon request but the kind cashier asked us anyways. I was so satisfied eating this meal in the car as soon as we received it. Even when I was full, I couldn't help but continue eating. I would come back to New Mexico just for this bomb BBQ again! This was the perfect stop between visiting Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands National Park. Make a stop here, it's definitely worth it!

    Flip Plate

Yelp led me to Danny's Place. - Flip plate: a local favorite. A floured tortilla buttered and fried on the grill filled with a hamburger patty, two cheese slices, green chile, onion and salsa ($10.75): Different. Can't say it was my favorite. I wouldn't order this again, but mostly because the two meat plate was the star of the show. - Two meat plate with brisket & ribs ($14.50): The brisket was nice and tender and had good burnt ends and smoke rings. Ribs fell off the bone. Make sure to ask for your pepper, pickle and onion. All pickled and all good. They also had a sweet and a vinegar based bbq sauce. I couldn't decide which one I liked better! Loved the Texas toast too. Both entrees came with two sides: - Fried okra: Our server recommended this one. The key to okra is it shouldn't be slimy or it's over cooked. Was this slimy? No siree! So good. I dipped it in the ranch dressing from the side salad. - Potato salad: Very good. Even better the next day! - Mac n cheese: Not sure why this one had an extra 75 cent extra charge, as this was meh. - Side salad: It was a plain ol' salad, but good to balance out the rest of the heavy meal. This had an extra 75 cent charge too. Huge portions. Friendly service. Cute ambiance to boot.

The waitress who served us was wonderful, friendly, attentive, and incredibly kind to our dog. Prices were very reasonable and the portions were generous. The only negative part of the evening had nothing to do with the restaurant. A man seated next to us spent much of dinner being rude and entitled, repeatedly questioning how the salmon was prepared, criticizing the wine list, and generally acting unpleasant toward the staff. The blonde waitress with glasses handled the situation with impressive patience and professionalism. Honestly, it took restraint not to say something myself. She did a fantastic job dealing with a very difficult customer and deserves recognition for it.

They marched us straight to some random back room that looked filthy and forgotten. Dirty walls, dead flies sitting on the window sills, dusty air vents directly over our table, worn-out floors and furniture... the whole place felt grimy. On the way to our table we were also walked past a nasty smelling dishwashing area, which really set the tone for the experience. Now the food. The kids got chicken fettuccine Alfredo, and somehow it managed to be both lava hot and completely flavorless at the same time. The chicken tasted like it lost a fight with the microwave. The meatloaf? I genuinely have no idea what they served me. It looked like cafeteria mystery meat drowned in tomato puree. Honestly offensive. I ordered the green chile cheeseburger with fries thinking maybe they'd at least get that right. Nope. The green chile had zero spice, zero flavor, zero reason to exist. The burger itself was forgettable at best. And the best part? The bill was nearly $100. For dirty vents, dead flies, bland food, and mystery meat. Would I come back? Not even if someone else was paying.

One of the pizzas we ate at the hotel and one we ended up taking with us to Carlsbad Caverns the next day and eating as a picnic lunch which was so fun! I can honestly say I could drink their brews daily as there is a wide range of IPA to almost Pils which should satisfy most folks. Beer = damn good! Ambiance is nice but simple. I can see that there might be a vision for branding and a local guitarist setting the tone. I'm all for it! It's a good idea but needs more application. Here's the problem: The service and wait times are very bad. Not the worst I've had, but it will 100% take you 30+ minutes to get a pizza plus wait time in line. To me, that is absolutely unacceptable. I don't have a problem with queuing in line for food and drinks but the speed needs to increase just to adhere to the vibe GMBC is trying to create; a Guadalupe Mountain Brewery that focuses on food, family, and beer. About the pizza, promising an open mind here, it's ok. Again, an oasis in a Domino's wasteland. But Dominos fully cooks their pizzas. I am 100% a pizza snob. I give these pies 2.5/5. Far too many toppings and a pale crust. Less toppings, more heat, more experience from the BOH staff. The pies are not cooked long enough as the cheese is clumpy and uneven and the toppings (veggies mainly) are huge, undercooked and the pizza was served nearly cold! Great portions but poor bake as they prioritize "speed" over making a good pizza. If you have never had a delicious slice, this is a solid step in the right direction. If you are used to professionals creating quality food, you will be disappointed. Still, don't shy away from this brewery as you can have a good (quite long) time as the beers are fairly priced and food will satisfy you. Absolutely throwing shade to the queso which is just canned Queso brand with crappy chips. I might add that the queso came with a hair in it but was slowly rectified by a server that I had to flag down. Ultimately, why should I wait so long in line for food that is minimum standard and is amateurish? Because I'm in Carlsbad, NM and there isn't competition to incentivize this place to be better. I want them to be better because I plan on making this a solid pit stop in the future. Keep up the good work, but continue to improve.
