While visiting Carlsbad Caverns we stayed in town for a couple days and had dinner here our first night. The waitress who served us was wonderful, friendly, attentive, and incredibly kind to our dog. Prices were very reasonable and the portions were generous. The only negative part of the evening had nothing to do with the restaurant. A man seated next to us spent much of dinner being rude and entitled, repeatedly questioning how the salmon was prepared, criticizing the wine list, and generally acting unpleasant toward the staff. The blonde waitress with glasses handled the situation with impressive patience and professionalism. Honestly, it took restraint not to say something myself. She did a fantastic job dealing with a very difficult customer and deserves recognition for it. read more

Came here because locals swore this place was "so good." Absolutely not. The outside gives you hope, but don't be fooled. They marched us straight to some random back room that looked filthy and forgotten. Dirty walls, dead flies sitting on the window sills, dusty air vents directly over our table, worn-out floors and furniture... the whole place felt grimy. On the way to our table we were also walked past a nasty smelling dishwashing area, which really set the tone for the experience. Now the food. The kids got chicken fettuccine Alfredo, and somehow it managed to be both lava hot and completely flavorless at the same time. The chicken tasted like it lost a fight with the microwave. The meatloaf? I genuinely have no idea what they served me. It looked like cafeteria mystery meat drowned in tomato puree. Honestly offensive. I ordered the green chile cheeseburger with fries thinking maybe they'd at least get that right. Nope. The green chile had zero spice, zero flavor, zero reason to exist. The burger itself was forgettable at best. And the best part? The bill was nearly $100. For dirty vents, dead flies, bland food, and mystery meat. Would I come back? Yellow Brix was great! The outdoor seating is lovely, they do a nice job with the patio. Even with the location by a main road, it feels like someone's back yard, really pleasant. And the live music was a nice touch for a Friday night. Service was also excellent, so friendly and on top of their game. I had the shrimp pomodoro dish and really enjoyed it. The shrimp were seasoned so well, and the pasta was al dente. There was also a nice, mild kick from the black pepper, and the fresh parmesan melted into the dish to create cheesy goodness. We had a very sweet waitress, blonde gal with glasses, that brought water for our pup without us even asking. There was a very rude person at the table next to us who was being extremely condescending to the waitress ("who cooks the salmon? The chef? my husband and came in through town during our roadtrip to ft. worth during the holidays and we were pleasantly surprised!! we were just looking for a quick snack (and a drink for me hehe) and a place to stretch our legs and we were not disappointed! Saleen and Luca took care of us, and from start to finish -- everything was excellent! Stopped in to try after visiting the Carlsbad caverns. I ordered spinach artichoke dip which was really good, Caesar salad and the green chili fettuccine. The ambience is cute and cozy. The staff was nice but service lacked a bit which the waiter forgot to put in my entree. My Caesar salad came out with no dressing and we were checked on after the fact there was a complaint. The staff sincerely apologized and quickly took care of the problem and comped my entree and a desert because of this I will return. This establishment did the right thing to keep a customer. Yellow Brix was so good we went two days in a row during our Carlsbad trip! On day 1 we were kind of in a rush to eat in between viewing Carlsbad Caverns, and trying to return for the bat flight show. We were seated immediately, served, and finished eating all within 30 minutes! The food was honestly impeccable. The flavors all worked perfectly! I loved the touch of sweetness from the cranberries in the Warm Brussels Salad, and the use of parmesan on the salad, truffle fries, and meatloaf. The baked penne is like fancier and yummier mac&cheese! I highly recommend both dishes, as well as their delicious cheesecake and creme brûlée! We went back for breakfast the next day (Saturday Breakfast until 12 pm) and were equally blown away with the amazing flavor of the food! Not a great picture, but the breakfast chicken fried steak was probably the best I've ever had. The sides complemented it perfectly. I tried a pancake for something sweet, and it was very yummy too! Also, I swear this place hires the friendliest staff with the best customer service. Every staff member I encountered was polite and friendly, smiling, wishing us a good day, etc. I was so impressed with the service! Lastly, the entire restaurant has very nice, beautiful, and clean surroundings. There is a lovely outdoor area as well. I think the restaurant is set in a house... it has charming fixtures, windows, and doors. I came here with a friend while visiting the Carlesbad cavern. After waiting 40 minutes and seeing 3 tables come in after us and both have drinks and food already, we flagged down someone. They said no one was assigned to us and that's why we didn't even have water yet. But a waitress said she would take our table. She was cool and polite but don't know why the mistake happened. Surely it was easy to notice in a not large restaurant this table just sitting for a long time. The food was good. I highly recommend the warm Brussels sprouts salad. I ordered a drink right when taking orders that didn't come until halfway through dinner. It was a mojito and had very little mint. It wasn't good and again came out way late. My friend had meatloaf and it had marinara sauce on top instead of what you'd expect with meatloaf. I had a salad which was good. The ambiance was nice with dim lighting and Christmas lights. Overall though the lack of service was enough to make me not recommend this restaurant. Hopefully they can figure out what their inconsistencies are. read more

My friends and I met in Carlsbad for a few day mini vacation. In searching reviews we decided to have out first meal at Yellow Brix due to the high ratings. I am gluten free, and they have a separate menu for restricted diets, not just for gluten free, but also vegetarian and vegan. My plate was the chicken paremesan. It was very good, but too large a portion. I do wish restaurants would give an option of half plates. What stood out was Roberto, our server. He was personable and made us feel like guests he was taking care of, not just customers he was serving. You could tell he enjoyed his job, and although I think he is new, he really made the effort to give a good impression. We enjoyed our meals, my friends had the steaks that they declared were excellent (kudos to the chef). We even came back the next day for lunch. I had the steak tacos, which were very good. I do not like writing this review. The restaurant was recommended to us by a local. The exterior was inviting, nicely decorated. They were packed and only standing room near the host station but we only waited about 10 minutes to be sat. The servers were rushing past. We were patient but after 15 minutes without acknowledgement, I wanted to leave. My friend stopped a server who apologized profusely and took our orders. I had the salmon with side salad and pozole. The pozole was amazing! The salmon wasn't warm and not great. My friend had the 6oz medallions. They ran out of mashed potatoes so he had the chicken tortilla soup and fries for his sides. The sides were large portions. The proteins seemed small in comparison. The medallions were room temperature and very fatty. We had to ask for silverware and napkins. The Postole and Chicken Tortilla soups were both homemade and delicious! Tortilla soup had squash, zucchini, tomatoes, cheese, corn l, avocado and chicken - Yum! The Posole Soup in a Green base with Hominy and fresh chunks of pork enhanced with a spicy mix of Green Chiles and some Jalapenos got the slices flowing ! The fresh large Cobb Salad and their spin on Chicken Cordon Bleu with Jack cheese and delicate tasty batter was also moist and delicious. Biscuits "smothered in gravy" were crispy, uncut biscuits with a thin coating of thin gravy that might have been applied with a butter knife! In fact the little bit of gravy was not even noticeable when I decided to open the biscuits and spread jam on them to make them edible! Wife had a crepe with crispy edges - should not be - but it was absolutely stuffed with berries - which was great. Lovely spot with lovely people, but really needs an experienced breakfast cook. I was so glad to have a chance to experience this local hotspot! I went and had lunch, the ladies seated next to me had two spectacular plates delivered to them and I asked for their recommendations. Both were having the warm Brussel salad and one lady said, I just got mine and haven't had any yet would you like to try it? I unwrapped my utensil and got a Brussel and was immediately intrigued with the crispy texture, warm crunchy, and inviting sauce. I had to order one for myself. The waitstaff in the area suggested adding beef tips so I did and that added an extra level of YUM!!! The portion size was large and the chef did a remarkable job of cooking and preparing it just right. I noticed the lady who came in after me and also seated nearby ordered the Brussel salad. This sounds like a very popular choice and I understand why. The service and attentive staff really elevate the experience. It's so nice to see so many indoor and outdoor places to sit. Outstanding service and delicious food. We called to confirm pets were allowed after going to a different restaurant which had been recommended to us. The manager was very welcoming over the phone so we drove a few blocks to their restaurant. I asked Veronica our server if she would recommend the Mediterranean Salad or the Berry Salad. She recommended the Berry salad which was outstanding with fresh berries, watermelon and feta! The balsamic vinaigrette was the best I have ever had! We ordered a chicken breast for our senior dog Allie, which arrive quickly and she very much enjoyed it. My husband had the Chicken Cobb salad - also delicious. Checking in to get a table was a bit chaotic but it was worth it in the end. We called earlier in the day and were told they do not take reservations. When we arrived later that night the party in front of us was checking in and made a reservation. People were cutting in line to get a table and it appeared they weren't going off the list but we were seated in just about 10 minutes so it all worked out. The restaurant is clean and cozy with candles on the tables. They also have plenty of outdoor seating. Our server was friendly and efficient and the food came out quickly. I had the chicken parm with mashed potatoes and a side salad and really enjoyed it. The other diners at my table had steak and Cajun pasta.
