Purchased 90/10 ground beef at Roth's today. I used 1/2. I've not seen this much fat in 90/10 ground beef & there was more I got out after the photo was taken. They get 3 stars because it tastes fresh. read more

The store has signs on the doors stating that all shoppers must wear masks but takes no measure at this time to enforce this nor do they check for vaccination status. They should replace those signs with new ones that state "Roth's does not care about the ongoing welfare of children, the immunocompromised, and anyone else unable to receive the COVID vaccine." The customer service in the Deli is not good. Not friendly and zero thank you's or have a nice day. One younger dark haired girl was particularly edgy and seamed annoyed by me wanting multiple items. Masks mean you have to work a little harder to show your appreciation because we can't see you smile or not smile. This was my first visit to Roth's since moving to Independence. The one I used to shop with closed in Portland. Jason, the assistant manager of the deli, was very kind when we chatted and he was the only one in the entire store that helped me find vegan cheese also. He is a nice man! Unfortunately it's not flowing down to his deli staff members. Or at least that one girl. The check out clerk was very sweet. I may give this store location one more try. Accept I love the deli items and don't want to deal w that girl again. Leave her in the back doing projects and away from the counter. I also found that bout half of the items I went in for were out of stock on a Monday. They get there shipments Tuesday so even if I do head back it won't be on my day off, Monday. Man the deli put a bad taste in my mouth and bummed me out as I was shopping because it was my first stop when I walked in. When you loose a customer in a grocery store, its like thousands and thousands of dollars just in repeat business GONE. However, now I've already told my best friend who lives here in Independance and written a review on line. Even more money is lost to this business. Went to roths for burgers and fry's for lunch... the burgers tasted almost burnt,and they forgot my lettuce and forgot tomato's on another burger. The garlic fry's weren't even garlic it was like a powder on them and the tater tots just tasted like grease.... Definitely Not eating there again... read more

21 minutes ago Went into Roth's today wore my mask like a good little indian...Everything is twice as exspensive as Safeway so I don't go roth much but once in a while but never again me and the wife and everyone I know won't be going to nazi roths!!! ...The old bat at the cash register gave me hell because my mask was down I think it was the trump hat but anyway I could tell but not the point the point is ...Some if us have Asthma and breathing conditions like CPOD so you can just shut up and stand there behind your plastic window and since you have your mask on your safe right!! Mind your own bussiness so do your job and leave the customer alone..who has asthma and can't wear it all the time because it restricts your breathing and doesn't do anything anyway...Really pissed me off next time I'll rip the manager! Love Roth's Marionberry muffins but not the scam they're running. The sign in case clearly states Muffins $2.00. The bakery now no longer marks the price on the bag of the goods you're buying (which they did in the past). When I got to the register they charged me $2.50 apiece or $5.00 for the 2 muffins I purchased. When I asked for a refund the clerk called the bakery and they told him the sign was wrong. They were not going to give me back the difference. The cashier had to get approval from a manager to make things right. Maybe Roth's wouldn't need to provide free cookies on Friday to attract people to their store if they dealt honestly with their customers. read more

A BIG THANK YOU to Roth's, Monmouth, cashier, Alyssa... She saw to it that a request I had asked for several time was recorded. I didn't know her or would even recognize her, again... until yesterday. I had in my groceries on the counter a jar of the Decaf version. Alyssa, the checker made a comment about appreciating that they had it in stock now. I said that yes, it had taken awhile, but I was so pleased to find it again, locally. Alyssa mentioned that it was she who sent in a written request on my behalf. I thanked her profusely then left. Before I turned around and got to the door, I returned and asked her if there were little forms that a customer could complete complimenting an employee. She looked and said that they were out of them. Since I try to make it a habit of catching and acknowledging people when they're "good", I asked if there was another way and she mentioned this website. So let it be known ~~~ far and wide ~~~ I believe most of us aim to please and are doing the best we can with all of the health risk issues, angry people, and whining... Absolutely appalling how this so-called ' local grocery store' has prices that make me feel I am back in Oahu, Manhattan or Alaska. Shame on the Orville family and their continued greed at a time we all struggling to get through. I went today, new store, to check it out... upon entering, yes, it's definitely a step above the old store which I would patronize every blue moon due to the INSANE mark ups on their items. Sadly, Orville family, never, ever will I set foot in ANY of your stores again! Beef hot dogs, 6.99 , no, not anything special....spaghetti sauce, cheap brand 3.99, really?? Sharp cheddar, small size, cheapest, 7.99.....and who are you to order me to wear a mask?? The reason I'm giving a 3 star is because of the service we got when trying to return cans. We sat there for 30 minutes and no one came to fix it. We left without returning our cans and went to winco. A young man that had been waiting longwr than us went in 3 times to get help. No one came. I went in again and was told that they were waiting for someone to become available. Yet when i was checking out with my items they said someone was already out there fixing it. The people ar checkout are hreat and so are floor people. But when it comes to returns they are awful. No one wants to do it so its passed off. COME ON!!! Its your job and these people are your customers. Take care of them. They pay your wages. I know, im a retired retail worker, over 30 yrs. shame on you huys. read more

I have recently noticed a huge improvement in the Independence/Monmouth Roth's Fresh Market. Things are neater, cleaner and it smells better:) I have even noticed an increase in production of fresh baked goods, sometimes they run out of breads and donuts but not nearly as frequent as before. Keep up the good work Roth's! You've always given so much to the community and we really notice the difference in and out of your store. read more

A hard business to grade. Roth's forte is the flagship store tailored to an upscale market, and when they operate in a bluecollar neighborhood they seem to stumble. Since their oldtime PNW checkers retired I have not been real crazy about their checkers. The one time I asked a butcher a pretty specialized question he was civil and knowledgeable. Not a lot of interaction to report otherwise. Probably best for a small range of targeted items. read more

I've updated my review to four stars. The service is excellent here and I'm impressed. The management must have read my review and cracked down on checkers noticing the correct price labels. I have since shopped there several times and not once had to bring the correct prices to their attention as I previously did. Kudos for that. Still not a 5-star store without a bulk section... Came in the other day to get a few donuts. The selection for the time in the morning (10am) seemed pretty slim. But I found what I wanted and checked out fine. My main problem was the checkout lines, I am a big guy and I almost couldn't fit in the line. I mean my belly literally touched the checkstand as my back was pushed up against the wall between the other register. Check the expiration dates on EVERYTHING you buy here. I'm serious. Especially milk. The guy in charge of milk (ED) almost never does any work apparently since there is expired milk in the display all the time. He also has some trouble with the "keeping it fresh" stickers because something will expire in 3 days but won't get a sticker. Very disappointing considering the mark up this place has. on a positive note, the little breads they make in their bakery are tasty. I love the one with cheese and onions. read more

What is it with Independence and having smaller, dirtier versions of actual grocery stores? This Roth's is a tiny, the prices are sky-high on pretty much everything that they have (which isn't much). Supposedly Roth's prides itself on customer service--something that I've yet to be impressed by at any of their stores--but I'd qualify the employees at this one as aggressively apathetic. With the exception of one helpful girl in the deli section, most of them give off a vibe that matches this store's dinginess. read more

every time I go to the store I am greeted with smiles, people call me by name, & I love the customer service! The selection of hard to find items is amazing! In recent years this Roth's grocery store has done a drastic change. It used to be dark, dingy, and just plain yuck! But now, it is bright, friendly, and very welcoming. The prices are a bit higher than the Waremart next door, but the selection of organic and all natural items far exceeds Waremart's. The Amish butter that they sell is amazing! (Although it is not actually made by Amish people,) I can't find it anywhere else. The produce at Roths is top notch. I would not buy my produce anywhere else. and the fact that they carry the Always Native line is just another bonus. read more

Rushed in to get some deli items today before the deli closed at 7pm. It was 6:55p and everything was already covered up. There were 2 ladies behind the counter talking. Neither one bothered to acknowledge me. I finally interupted and asked them what time the deli closed thinking maybe I had the wrong time. I was told it closed at 7 and as she looked at her watch she realized it wasn't 7 yet. She then told me they closed up a little early today because it had been busy. She also told me that sometimes they try to get out as early as possible. Really? So annoyed...and hungry. Considering the ridiculous prices they charge I would expect better customer service. read more

Today I went in to get a fruit basket from the produce manager for a gift and it was done on time, quite beautiful and very reasonably priced! In addition, I thought the people there were very helpful and the store quite nice -- perfect, really, for a small town. I do have to agree that the checkout line was way too narrow for anyone of any size. read more
