I ordered online for pickup. They seem like nice guys... Service is questionable. It did not appear too busy when I walked in, but nobody greeted or asked if I needed help. When I did stand in front of a staff member working the front, he just continued to do what he was doing and pretty much ignored me until I said something. I guess you just have to walk up and talk to get his attention. (New York City delis even greet you...so perhaps it was an off day for the gentleman). I overheard and witnessed other stuff that was said, but anyways. The actual workers behind the counter/making the sandwiches were just doing their role, so I don't have anything to say besides the fact that my sandwich and my wife's were tasty. She got the gabagool and I got the Italian stallion. We both agreed that the sourdough could be improved a bit, but the deli meats tasted fresh. Would come back to try other sandwiches, but hope the service would be a little bit more attentive/friendly. read more

We placed our order online using their website after a quick confirmation on their instagram account that they would be closing an hour early for Christmas Eve (usually open until 4pm). Grateful for them to be open at all and fulfilling the order 30 minutes before close. We arrived exactly as they were about to close and had our 3 sandwiches ready to go. We tried the Fratello and BLTA. Might try their gabagool for next time. Very tasty sandwiches but wished they sliced them in half. This was my first time ordering from here. I ordered the Gabagool and WOW... is it like New York? YESSSS!!! The roasted red peppers alone are worth it I could literally eat those by themselves. So definitely off the beaten path. I got back to the office and I couldn't wait to dig in. First off my order was correct! Second it smelled amazing. I had a chicken sandwich, 1 coworker had a turkey with provolone, the other a Ruben. All three sandwichs we absolutely outstanding. At first I thought to myself Ok you're just being a smart***. But then..I found this place. My mother drank RC [ask me when the last time I saw RC in ANY food place was..decades!]. Nothing better that searching "Best Deli Sandwich in Salem" and it turns out to be "The BEST Sandwich in Salem". We stopped in at Cozzie's NY Deli in Salem and the hype is well deserved. We were greeted promptly and with a great smile. We got there just before lunch rush and they were clearly primed and ready. I ordered the #11 Pinocchio- a classic and FANTASTIC Pastrami on toasted marbled Rye with a delicious slaw and dressing. He ordered a #4 Gabagool - a massive Italian meat sandwich loaded with tasty peppers on a soft hoagie roll. Both sandwiches came with a fresh crisp pickle. We got our sandwiches fairly quickly, while they kept up with the stream of online and called in orders as well as walk-ins. We were even sent on our way with "Have a great rest of your day!" It all worked like a well-oiled machine with a smile! The seating area is on the smallish side, but most of their clientele appeared to be from the many businesses around, so many were getting it to go. It is a very well kept Deli. Plenty of parking and easy to find. Restrooms were also clean and in good repair. This was the perfect place to stop for a lunch when we needed to travel through Salem. Love this most of the time but last visits have me dropping from 4 to 3. One miss I can take but a second time in a row? Ah, no. Ordered the #4 and what a disastrous mess! There is so much lettuce that was drowned in oil and vinegar that I had to get a fork and scrape off at key half. And the bread was not fresh. I suspect they had just opened for the day that they used old bread from yesterday. Terrible. Best place to get a Deli sandwich in Salem, hands down. I stopped in for the second time this afternoon, but it was about 15 minutes before they were closing. I felt bad because I knew they were probably working on getting things closed down. However, they were more than happy to accommodate, and they couldn't have been nicer about it. In our quest for the authentic east coast hoagie, Cozzies is a 4+. We ate the #4, which features the three classic meats (salami, coppa and mortadella) and provolone. They use sweet marinated peppers instead of pepperoncinis, which was a surprisingly good (and according to my husband, authentic) variation. The bread was what they called a "wedge" - somewhat confusing online as I thought it was a salad - but in fact it was a classic hoagie bread that was chewy and soft but not wimpy. We took off a partial star for the use of balsamic vinegar when we asked for oil and vinegar instead of mayo - apparently we should have asked for "salad dressing.". But the use of mayo is blasphemy on an Italian sandwich so the downgrade is justified. Next time we will try The Dante: a spicier version with salami, pepperoni and pepperoncinis, but ask for provolone instead of pepper jack (really!). No dining inside yet, but nice restrooms!! All in all worth the detour off the highway into the industrial airport district. read more

Wow, what a great, fast, friendly, well-priced and out of the way spot Cozzie's NY Deli is. I was visiting Salem on a Friday and wanted a sandwich I could take to Silver Falls. This place came up but I was very confused with the location. Then I realized that this serves the industrial workers in the area on the outskirts of town. Even when busy the place was very clean, fast and friendly. Lots of parking in front, seating for about 14 people or so inside with a bright white NYC theme. I loved my sandwich, which had real sourdough bread. I keep it simple with turkey, lettuce and tomato, dry with no sauces, no cheese. They got it perfect the first time, and loaded up the tomatoes unlike many places. The meat was of very high quality (you can tell it was from an animal recently, rather than those jumbled looking cuts you often see). The ordering was easy, as was the register. This team really has it down and can probably kill any lines quickly. You could tell there were many regulars. At under $8 for the sando and chips, I was sold. Head to Cazzo's NY Deli for any and all sandwich cravings. read more

This place is my usual spot for lunch. Best sandwiches I've ever found. They have a daily mac & cheese that is always spectacular. The meats and cheese are top notch. Its all tied together perfectly with a NY atmosphere and personable staff. My go-to is the Dirty Bird sandwich with pepperoni mac & cheese. Btw, I wanted to add how incredible the owner is to his community. This guy and his staff fed the fire department while they saved our state. First time (pre-Yelp) ordered "The Neighbors" which is actually a classic Reuben. Loved it! Second go around, I ordered "The Dante" which was practically a massive Italian sandwich... It was good. Meats were fresh, bread slightly on the hard side, but way too much mustard for my taste. Maybe it's my personal preference, but the mustard to mayo ratio should be even. The mac and cheese was okay. It was a little cold when I got back to work to finally eat it. A bit overpriced in my opinion, but not bad. All in all, this place was solid. You shouldn't be disappointed if you give it a shot.
