So happy there is a storefront in Georgetown. Walked in and Grace greeted and helped me immediately. Went in to try on a shoe before buying a final sale item online. I appreciated the minimalism of the store, it helped make decisions a lot easier to make, and I thought there was an opportunity to order more, but he dissuaded me in the best, most professional way, possible, because he understood my fit. The stars are more for the product as I think there is a lot to improve on in terms of the store experience. I will say that I appreciate the minimalist store design aesthetic. As for the shopping experience, it would be helpful if there was someone greeting people at the door or something written on the wall to explain the function of the store and that they have a limited selection. Since they only have very few color options it would be helpful if there was a computer/iPad where you could quickly place an online order. I came on a Sunday afternoon and the store was packed and there was no system for how to figure out who was next to get assistance. This one lady had her huge dog in the store that I had to maneuver around every time I went to the mirror. I really appreciate being able to try these on in the store. I have wide feet and never jumped on purchasing online because I was never sure about the sizing. I ended up loving the merino wool flats but the employee said they only had a Forrest green color and stripe color. I didn't realize until I left the store that they had a few more options online including a Heathered black (which I ended up getting). The point flat is too narrow for my wide feet and bunched up in an awkward way. I wish the price point was closer to $100 as with allbirds...we'll see how they hold up. read more

I have heard so much about the Rothy's brand. Unsure of a perfect fit for shoe sizing visited the store. The store is small but perfect area for the brand. The sale associates are welcoming and helpful. Even though they didn't have the style I desired to purchase in store, they ordered it online to be delivered. I had the worst customer service experience to date at this location on 12/26/23. [Note: This review is solely due to this and not the products themselves.] I had been looking for a classic vegan ballet flat for a while so when I discovered Rothy's, I decided to drop by their Los Angeles store on Black Friday to see the styles in person and find the right size. The employee who assisted me, Ashley, was so kind and helpful. They ordered the ballet flat in my size online and had it delivered to my home. I liked The Ballet Flat and Rothy's so much after that encounter that I was also eyeing The Almond Demi (AD), but wasn't sure of the fit/size. When I visited the DMV area, Georgetown specifically, I stumbled upon this location. I walked in excited to hopefully try on the AD in person and make a purchase. A female employee was helping a couple so I decided to sit down and wait my turn. A few minutes later, a male employee came over and asked if I needed anything. I explained that I already own a pair of Rothy's and was looking to try the AD. He said they didn't carry these in store because they weren't a popular style (?). I then asked this employee if I could try on The Square Mary Jane and he asks me in which color so I ask him which colors are available. He seemed annoyed with me from the moment I asked to see the AD, but at this point he seemed completely bothered by my question as if he didn't know which colors were available and/or he was expecting me to know what colors are in stock. In an effort to deescalate, I asked him to bring any color that is available in the same size I ordered The Ballet Flat in a couple months ago. I tried them on and they fit well. The employee proceeded to tell me that they looked too tight and that I should size up, but I confirmed that this size is roomy and comfortable for me, which he seemed irritated by. We discussed the AD further and he pulled up the reviews online that show that this style runs large so, in my mind, it would make sense to order at least a half size smaller than I ordered in The Ballet Flat. However, the employee continued stating that I should order a size larger, which makes no sense to me. Here, the employee became combative and had a bit of an I-know-better-than-you attitude so I got up to leave. As I headed to the door, a different pair of shoes near the female employee caught my eye so I asked her a question about them and after a few exchanges, explained to her why I stopped by Rothy's in the first place. Although she was already helping the couple, she suggested I try The Almond Loafer to get an idea of how the AD would fit. She even brought out her own personal pair of AD's so I could see them in person, which was so helpful! This caused the male employee to have a fit in front of me and the couple. He stated that he was confused and that he thought he had done everything to help me decide which size to get in the AD, but clearly it wasn't enough. He then stormed off into the back room. The couple and I looked at each other in disbelief and, thankfully, the couple stated that the employee shouldn't be behaving this way, which made me feel better. Obviously, after this, I left. Maybe the Tysons Corner location (opening soon) will have better customer service. read more

Thank you, Janet!! She wasn't a sales associate; she was a Consultant. I bought (and loved) a pair of Rothy's a few years ago, but was still skittish about buying them online - especially a new style. People talk in the reviews about sizing and materials, but opinions are subjective and some comments contradict others. So I decided to go in person and give the retail store a try. I'm told that the round toe styles run true to size; the points run small. OK, that seems easy enough, right? At first I felt bad because Janet brought out so many pairs in so many colors in both 8.5 and 9 for me to try. But she explained that even within the same style, the size and fit varies with the colors/material used (ie the metallic vs the regular fabric). When trying on, she instructed me to do the tiptoe test - stand on your toes, tiptoe around, and see if the heel slips off (= too big). Maybe that's basic but I know left to my own devices I would have gone for a snug fit and bought a pair too small. To me, the right ones felt too "roomy" around the middle, when what matters is the heel and the point where your toes are hitting in the shoe. Janet examined the outer joints of my foot in the shoe; if the fabric bulged at all they were deemed too small. Apparently, being made of recycled plastic, the fabric has no "break in" or stretching out. You wouldn't guess this from mere looking and try-ons. Janet shared more helpful info - which colors were "special edition" (gone forever after the season) and which colors would always be in stock; she pointed out the special soles that some shoes had (the hot pink have a sole w leopard print; the sour apple, an emerald sole) - I never would have noticed these special details and would have assumed the that all the soles were tan or black. And she shared that if you bring back an old pair of Rothy's, they recycle them - and give you $30 off a new pair! Again, maybe all this is info others figure out on their own. But if you're like me - you order online ten different sizes and variations of a shoe and then end up having to return them all - you will truly benefit from the exceptional assistance and in-store experience here. So, a friend had bought me a pair of Rothys as a gift and I didnt know alot about the brand, so the shoes she bought as a gift were a tiny bit small. I was super lucky to have a Rothys in DC, b/c the sizing for the shoe styles was all a little different, but b/c the shoes are made of plastic they dont have any give, so if you are thinking (like i did) "i will just break them in"- that will likely never happen. The online return policy is super strict (the shoes need to be never worn, never washed), but in the store they were very nice and understanding and I really appreciated the customer service. Also, if you are a rothy's fan, it may make sense to drop on by and try shoes on before you order them b/c they were all a little different. I am an 8.5/ 9 and in their sneakers the 8.5 fit perfect and was like walking on a cloud. In flats the 9 fit, in the pointy toe flats i would probably have to go up to a 9.5. The flats fit a bit loose like a slipper, and while I went in thinking the flat is where its at, i really think their sneakers are great! All in all, I had a really great experience, I appreciate the understanding and ease of return, and I appreciate their covid safety measures (people were socially distant, areas were disinfected, purell was plentiful) read more

For the longest time, Rothy's SF was the only physical location for these wonderful* shoes. DC is rarely top 3 for anything good (top 3 for in rush hour traffic partisan BS for sure) but Rothy's deemed DC worthy. Suck it, NYC & LA. The staff have been super helpful during each visit since opening and they typically have the newest colors to try on in store. The minimalist aesthetic and friendly staff make this a fun stop in Georgetown each time. We've also been able to score some cute masks here recently and the staff were very conscious of the number of customers inside the store at any given time. It's understandable for a store that has such a heavy online presence to have limited stock at its retail location. If a particular style is not available, they happily help with ordering the ones you want. For me, it wasn't unexpected that returns are accepted only at Happy Returns Bars or by mail so they can go to a central warehouse instead of hung up in a store. Honestly, with parking being such a pain in Gtown, I'm thankful for their easy return options. * = if you can figure out your shoe size. I love the Rothy's brand, but I would not recommend shopping at this location. The person I was helped by was unfriendly, unprofessional, and off-putting. When I asked for advice on styles for a gift for my mother who was starting a new job as a secretary, I was told he "didn't know what secretaries wore" and could not help. I found this extremely disrespectful, as a secretary who works in a business casual setting should receive the same advice for shoe style as any other business professional. The individual then proceeded to give little help when I tried to decide on a size, and pushed me away from the sale styles by giving me false information regarding how the shoes would run. This is not the type of customer service I'd expect from such a brand, especially considering how expensive the shoes are. Save your time shopping here, you're better off shopping online. read more

Great experience at the Rothy's store in Georgetown. I had ordered a pair of boots online and needed to exchange them for another size. The staff went above and beyond when I made the exchange to make me feel welcomed and safe. I ended up with an entirely different pair, wool boots, which I didn't know existed and I love them even more. Bonus, my daughter wanted a pair of Rothy sneakers for Christmas. They are already sold out online. I called the store, they had them in stock, I purchased by phone, and they ran them to my car. The staff is very attentive and knows their product well. Well, you'd think ordering the size of foot would be accurate when ordering shoes online but no, there's disclaimers stating to order a half (or even full) size larger... why wouldn't the company just list the actual size rather than leave it to the customer to try to figure out and mislead them. Makes no sense. Oh, and if you're lucky enough to buy it during a sale, guess what, no returns... these reused plastic bottles are pricey enough to wear for you to not have a definitive sizing based on standard foot sizing. read more

They only let a few people in the store at a time and make people wait out front in a line, presumably to create buzz through people seeing people standing in a line to look at their shoes. It's almost worth ordering several sizes online and figuring out what works to avoid allowing them to use their customers in this way. Not impressed with the company based on this. read more

I was going to Lush when I saw the Rothy's store. Recognizing it I looked in the window and they had all of the products on a piece of paper posted to the window. I was considering shopping at Rothy's while I waited for the line at Lush to go down. Within about five minutes of waiting in front of Rothy's for the Lush line, a sales associate from Rothy's came out. In an aggressive tone, she asked that we not block the store and make others think that there is a line to Rothy's (which is easily avoidable, if someone walked up I would've told them I was in line for Lush and moved out of their way). Also, no one was in the store. She then asked my friend and me to curve the line for Lush and to stand in the middle of the sidewalk. This was surprising to me because it would mean that we coappropriately social distance from those passing by on the sidewalk. I wanted to shop there and I would've bought a pair of shoes, but I don't want to be treated that way as a potential customer. read more
