My experience in the morning was pretty nice--it was quiet and relaxed. I had chicken curry with dahl roti, rice and peas, and plantains. For $15, the portion was very filling. It took me about 30 minutes to finish everything, and honestly, if you haven't eaten all day, this meal will definitely fill you up. The customer service was great. I'm giving 3 stars mainly because the peas and rice are very inconsistent. Some days they're well-seasoned and perfectly cooked, but other times they're either too salty or undercooked. Unfortunately, today was one of the bad days the rice was bland and not fully cooked, and the peas were still hard. It's frustrating not knowing what to expect each time. I stumbled upon this place & saw that everything was halal & that it was busy at 8 AM- I had to go in. The lady working there was very nice & accommodating with my questions at that time of day haha. Not my typical area for this type of food so I was curious to try. It's Guyanese cuisine and wanted to try Pepper Pot their signature dishe but sasadly they were out. It was near closing time. I opted for some other Caribbean dishes and did take out. They still has a decent selection and amount of food to pick from. We got the Peas and Rice and Boneless Jerk Chicken. The boneless chchicken was my hubby's idea, I prefer bone in and already had my reservations about the flavor difference but I obliged. We got Doubles with Tamarind Sauce and Aloo Pie with Chickpeas. Both the lady at the counter and the cashier were very welcoming and friendly. They were quite engaging with several customers who walked in while we were there. I could tell this was a place where they had regulars from the conversations. She was equally happy to chat with us new comers. She even gave me a small package of Milo cookies when I saw a bigger box and commented that I always wanted to try them but didn't want to get the bug box without knowing if I'd like them. She told me I'd love it and I'd be back for more. I did. Got home and food was still warm. I was really impressed with the jerk chicken. I know it was oven prepared and not in the outdoor smoker but it was well seasoned and despite my preconceived notions about it being boneless it was very good. The doubles were good I really enjoyed the tamarind sauce. The Aloo pie was large by standards of all the other places we go to. It was also generously stuffed with chickpeas. I'd have to say I'd return. I want tobtry the Roti and of course - Pepper Pot. The have a few tables with chairs if you want to stay and enjoy. My husband and I have been here twice. The first time we had the jerk chicken and it was tasty and the rice and peas, the vegetables were a very small amount though. The service was attentive and nice. The second time we had the oxtails which had a nice sweet and spicy flavor,and the curry chicken. I was in here right before lunch to pick up some meat for my dinner. I was glad they had jerk chicken legs because that was my first choice for dinner. Fir the first time in a while there was no one ahead of me when I came in. I asked for one jerk chicken leg. I was asked if I wanted anything else. I declined. I also noticed they had plenty of fresh Guyanese pastries in their display case. The jerk chicken was coated in wonderfully complex hot and spicy blend. When I ate it, it was definitely hot. I went for Roti & the had none, so I was given other options for a meat and rice. The server put her sleeve in the plate. I had to ask for a new plate of rice. Excellent Caribbean food! My wife and love Caribbean food, like seriously LOVE it. We were recommended Roti on the Run by a friend and we were very pleased with the recommendation. My wife and I each had the jerk chicken which comes with rice and beans and roti. It was awesomely tasty. The chicken was perfectly spiced and cooked. We did take out, but the restaurant was clean and the service was good. Not sure we will get the chase to get back here (it's a little out of the way from where we are staying) but it's not because it wasn't good quality. I didn't rate it 5 stars because it was a little pricey, but not enough to scare us off from coming again if we were in the area. I've passed this place a million times but I finally stopped in for lunch. I was happy to see that they had so many vegetarian and vegan options (mostly veggies on the hot bar) and to find that the food is very affordable. I went with a mixed veggie platter with roti, which came with okra, spinach, potatoes, yuca, chickpeas, and lentils - all for $8! I also got a double ($1!) and an aloo (potato) pie for $1.50 to go. These made for a great snack later, although I probably should've eaten these fresh and ate the hot food later. The actual quality of the food is probably worth 3 stars, but given the VERY limited non-pizza, non-fried chicken, non-burger options in the neighborhood, and given they're one of the only local places that actually serves a variety of vegetables, I'm giving them 4 stars. read more

Felt enticed by the kind man as I entered the restaurant because I saw the lunch special advertised on the chalk board sitting outside. Lol why didn't I just stick to the basics?...I.e. the special jerk chicken rice peas. I ended up ordering a shrimp Roti. As I looked as the steam table some man possibly the owner bragged on the dishes. Hmmm I think ok I will got a shrimp roti. Then I added on a chicken patty which was dry and a tropical rhythm sorrel ginger drink. That was the saving grace. The shrimp roti had hardly any shrimp but lots of salt and one big potato. It was unbearable. I forced myself to eat the shrimp because that is what I paid for. My bill was $13.06 never again So lesson learned stay away when hungry and stick to the basics or order pizza and call it a day. read more

I don't particularly care for the location or the food :(. I had the curry chicken (bone in) roti, pholourie, and buns. The buns were good and freshly made on premises. Just based on the reviews I went with what I thought might work for me.. As an awesome cook (I'm modest, or nah? Lol), being part Trini, and having tried many other places that sell roti, this place is my least favorite. Don't get me wrong, it was edible. In another review, someone complained about the chicken tasting like geera.... not a good look. Plus it looked like it barely had curry in it. The goat, same thing. They did however have boneless chicken, which normally I opt for anyway. Plus it looked like it had been cooked with curry. I also got an aloo pie and Kurma (snack attack).... First things first, BAD idea to use chicken breast. They should have used boneless chicken thighs. It would come out much more tender and probably cost less to use. (Everything cost me 12 bucks). Secondly, the aloo pie was okay... The pepper sauce added was NOT spicy, to me at least. It was fresh. Lastly, the dahl pori was NOT fresh. It was dry, tough and oily. I would've expected that texture more so when eating buss up. It was not light like dahl pori usually is. I would've expect my nose to be runny and having to drink tons of water when eating this, but I was the least bit enthused (yup I like my food that spicy). The woman behind the counter was very nice and I loved seeing snacks such as chocolate digestive, catch and others that I haven't seen in a long time. I Love This Place!!!! Everything from the friendly wait-staff to the freshly made baked goods. I love that the roti is freshly made AND NOT reheated. I read many negative reviews and I find many to be unfair. This is a good spot and being the only spot around, I for one am glad it's here. Ive been coming here for years and will continue to do so. Squeeze into the front booth of this Cypress HIlls eatery - it's usually half-filled with delivery supplies, so it's rarely occupied - for the most authentic Guyanese experience in New York. (Although apparently the kitchen is staffed by a mixture of Guyanese and Trinidadians.) The roti, filled with curry chicken, stewed chicken, spicy shrimp or beef is pretty damn close to what they serve in the jungle-filled country on the top of South America. At $7, the price is pretty similar as well. This type of riot is just meat inside of a thing crumbling piece of bread folded like origami, but when prepared correctly it's a thing to behold. On occasional visits over the past two years (this is quite far on the J train) all of the other customers have been Soca, with sing-songy accents and very specific instructions to make sure the meals recreate the homeland. In addition to the rotis, there are also Trini-Style doubles (spicy chickpeas in dough) along with meat plates, a changing variety of stews and extensive sweets prepared in the bakery out back. All are recommended and deserve to be savored over the free copies of the Kaieteur News (also available at the half-stuffed front table). (Recent the shop has launched a Guyanese Chinese menu. It's a faithful creation of the greasy, sugar-filled stir frys that are available in middle to high class restaurants around Georgetown. This is only Chinese food available for hundreds of miles in the mother country - but thankfully we have better options and this new venture is best avoided.) read more

Food here is bomb! I ordered oxtail with rice and it was so good. Just like how my mom makes it back home but a little bit more spicy. I ate all of it and forgot to post a picture, next time though. They are located right next to the Norwood St J train station across from a Grocery store. Ive been coming here since they first opened over a decade ago. Try the curry shrimp, aloo pie with the chick peas & potatoes with the with the tangy sauce, doubles, both types of roti skins, spinach, macaroni pie. But especially the oxtails. Dishes are usually at least $10. So bring $20 with u. There is also an on site bakery & they sell carib sodas and other carib grocery store items. The earlier the better cause certain items sell out early on random evenings. read more
