I paid $195 for him to tell me that I did didn't need to do it but if I wanted him to do it, he would make no sense. As a listing agent(realtor) for a property we had listed, the buyers agent hired roto rooter for an inspection. The seller agreed in the negotiations to repair the item. This review is in no way against what they found or quality of work. I called roto rooter and had a guy answer at 8:07am. I introduced myself and let him know we would like to schedule the repair for my seller. He informed me that he was working on his schedule and would call me back later in the day. No problem on my end, fairly normal for a small business, I get it. I never received a phone call that evening, so I called back the next morning just as a check in case things got busy and I got lost in the mix at 10:44 am. He let me know he was still working on the schedule and I asked politely what the max time would be because we may be closing escrow early. (If it was too long, I could get another plumber out sooner). He also told me he would call by the end of the day, which he did and I was grateful for the call. When he called back, he asked if I had a signed work auth turned in, which he didn't mention on the first call I made. I told him no, I didn't... But I could have it quickly signed by my seller. I also said that this info would have been nice to know when we talked the morning before. He told me that he doesn't schedule work without it (which is opposite of every sub I've ever dealt with) but in hindsight, I'm not going to have a seller authorize work without knowing the timeframe. I said fine, I'll have it signed... I had my seller sign it and I emailed over Monday morning. Meanwhile their office was calling the buyers agent because they were confused (I assume) about the work auth having the buyers agents name on it with my seller signature. When I talked to a new girl Monday morning they told me all about how they called the buyers agent and told them about the wrong name on the contract. That info from the buyers agent wasn't relayed to us until Monday morning. When I talked to the gal Monday morning and tried to schedule she was very blunt and irritated that I was trying to figure this out and get it done. She told me she would have to call my seller for a credit card to schedule the work ( another rule). I did mention that you haven't done much work for me and don't know that all my subs get paid, which I understand. She was rude and said you don't know how many realtors don't pay them .. which is sad... Realtors should do better. Immediately my seller called roto rooter and paid with a card then roto rooter called back and she scheduled for the next morning between 10:00-12:00. I asked if they would call on the way so I didn't have to hang out at a vacant house and I would meet them there. She said yes. I hung around town during that time to be ready for them to call. Never received a call .. I called at 12:00 and the gal said "oh, I thought we called?" I said "no". They mustve called someone else? She said that they had a guy call in sick (no big deal, it happens) that someone would be there before 2:00. I said "okay let me rearrange my whole schedule.". They called and I drove back over to the house to meet the tech about 1:00? I started to make sure he had easy access by unscrewing some gates and helping find power while he was complaining about it being in full sun and he has a different van today with no easy up. I offered to put a tarp up to shade him (so the job would get done) he went to his vehicle and said that he is going to another job and two guys would be back later to do it. I did tell the tech that the scheduling of them has been the biggest shit show ever. He gave excuses as this is how all subs are. Now I've wasted half my day waiting. After their scheduled time that took forever to get. The guys showed up, took care of the job. I called this morning to confirm it was done and got cussed out by some guy (I assume owner) as being the biggest piece of shit he's ever met and to never fucking call him again. I said no problem, I have no intentions of calling him again. Be warned. read more

I Would rather be writing a good review, instead I will leave this here. I called Roto Rooter on March 22 and Ray came out that day to give me a free quote on replacing my main, great guy so far. Very informative and told me he would be in touch on Friday on March 26 to schedule his camera crew to scope the pipe on Monday, March 29. Which he called and scheduled for 8am on the 29th and I asked if I had to be here as I had an appointment, he said no. Fantastic. Monday March 29 - my appointment isn't till later and I don't have to leave until 9:30 so at 9 I call and I told Ray, good morning it's 9 am and I still have not seen anyone come by. He immediately got very nasty with me on the phone and said, "you said you were NOT going to be there, those were your exact words!" Whoa my jaw hit the ground...seriously‍ I said, "oh okay...goodbye" Then I thought about that and called back, Ray answered and I explained to him how my appointment was later than I expected actually it was none of his business he said they would be at my house 8. My appointment could have been canceled for all he knew. However, I said, "my appointment was at a later time then I expected and where is all this hostility coming from, he immediately got even nastier and said " I'm going to pull off this job" which I replied, it's a damn good idea because your are RUDE!" Had busted a PVC water line at the street / property area, open for work, not buried. Could have easily fixed the job myself but would have had to drive 2 hours to do it, so used Roto Rooter. Was told by service person would probably be around $200... too much but I was in a bit of a jam, when the bill came, for two hours work and $21 in parts, for $372.82 I nearly threw up. $175 an hour? We had a bittersweet experience with this company, the gentleman that came out to help us diagnose the problem we were having with our septic was very helpful and knowledgeable- he explained ALOT about the system and what was most likely happening and helped us learn a lot. BUT the main reason we called in the first place was for help locating the distribution box underground. He probed the soil and also sent the camera down and determined exactly where it was. Great. The next day we start digging (we decided to DIY this project to save ourselves a bit of money) in the same spot he said the Dbox was but about 3 feet down all we hit was pipe. We ended up digging 3 feet down and for another SEVEN feet long until we finally hit the box. This doesn't seem like anything but when it's just two people with bad backs and a couple of shovels, it really was frustrating. Especially when most of the "soil" ended up being huge rocks. If we had truly known where the Dbox was which is what the entire point of the snake/camera was then it would've saved us many many many hours of hard labor. On one hand, I know this could've just been a mistake and an oversight and I understand the difficulty of these situations but if he didn't know exactly for sure where it was I would've rather him said that than mislead us. The man himself was very nice and respectful so I would probably call again if needed but this time tread more carefully with their diagnosis. read more

The beautiful thing about plumbing is that everything ultimately makes sense, however the dangerous part about plumbing is that the people involved often times over complicate the situation - typically for selfish motives. Ray has always been there and has proven to consistently provide stellar advice, work, professionalism, and pricing through the years. Ray has never come across an issue that he did not know how to solve. It is clear that Ray's motive is not to collect as much money as possible, but to deliver the CORRECT solution at a reasonable price. Not only will you be left with your problem fixed, but you will also be well informed of the system, issue, fix, and things to monitor (if needed) moving forward. I called Ray recently to walk me through the septic system for our property that he last serviced 5 or so years ago, and I could not believe how detailed his recollection was. Must say, Ray is a life saver. I entered the call burdened by what seemed like a maze of a system that I did not understand, however my 45 minutes with Ray left me armed with all the knowledge I was looking for. I had service done at my house that took 1 hour and 15 minutes. When they were through, they never discussed the bill with me. When I received the charge, I tried to have them itemized the bill and they refused. They installed used parts. I know this because there were water stains on their parts. The price of the bill was $575 for an hour and 15 minutes of work. The technician did a good job. I just don't understand how they can justify charging $575 for a 1 hour and fifteen minutes of work. On the Saturday that it snowed in Redding, I broke my shower pipe on the second floor of my home. Water poured thru the ceiling into my kitchen and dining room. This year I have been thankful for many Shasta county community members. I have given many things to first responders and firefighters, but today I want to think a different kind of Community member. Today I am very grateful for the local neighborhood plumber. My grandma lives in downtown Reading, and like others in the Reading area, she lost her power during the snowstorm. Unfortunately, her power was a little more difficult to get back on and she was without electricity for five days. During that time some of her food went bad, she did not realize it and got food poisoning. She was extremely sick and without proper lighting she didn't realize that when she threw up she lost the lower part of her dentures. Over the next few days she started to feel better and begin the process of trying to get a replacement. Dentist are booked out and the quotes that she was getting we're up to $3500 for a replacement. This would be extremely hard for her to come with on her fixed income. She has been going without them for a few days but is unable to eat solid foods. Today I was visiting her to see if I could be of assistance. During the visit she mentioned that her plumbing was running slow and needed a plumber to come by. These guys are the best and very reasonably priced. I had a water line feeding into my toilet break at 5pm the Friday before Christmas Eve. I had to completely shut off all of the water feeding into my house and clean a totally flooded bathroom with about an hour to spare before a large amount of guests arrived to my home for celebrations. I called five different plumbers before I called Roto-Rooter. Out the five I called before Roto-Rooter, three didn't even pick up the phone and two was booked.
