The water heater and installation was covered by my home warranty contract less the $100 deductible. However they charged an extra $400 for a permit and pipe modifications which are not covered by my policy. I am a contractor myself and the plumbing contractors I normally use ido better work for the money and would have brought the installation up to current code and installed an expansion tank to the water line. But they did not install the expansion tank. They charged an extra $400 for two flex hoses which should have been part of a normal water heater install. I did not think the inspection would pass but they must have the City of Columbus Inspector in their pocket because their mediocre installation passed. I felt ripped off. I will have to hire my usual plumber to correct this install as they were unwilling to do anything to address my concerns. See what they installed versus what I was expecting and used to.

He promised an estimate for both repairs -- if practical -- and replacement, for a similar quality unit. Bert was a nice gentlemen, but I have not TO THIS DAY ever heard back from him. Similarly with the receptionist at the office. She seems to be a very nice lady, but except for one return call, in January, to one of my three followups, it's been all crickets from her as well. I gave up long ago but thought prospective customers deserve a heads up. Edit: I just looked at my review as posted and have no idea how I got associated with San Francisco, CA. However when they replaced my hot water tank several months…read moreago, unbeknownst to me, to make the new, larger unit fit, the tech shortened my washer drain. In doing so, the washer drain isn't tall enough anymore to properly drain, and there is a deeply curved 'trap', (that wasn't there before), that causes the water to rush back up and out of the drain. I had asked the tech at the time about all the 'left over' PVC pipe pieces, but he'd assured me it was from the old tank- when in fact it was actually my working washer drain that he'd removed and replaced with a shorter pipe, with a very curved 'trap'. He did this in order to make the new tank easier to install, he failed to reassemble the drain properly after removing it to install the tank. The back of the washer/drain/hoses/etc. are all in a separate room than the front of the washer. It's accessed clear on the other side of the house through a tiny door next to the fridge in the kitchen. I've went in there once to change my furnace filter months ago. I noticed the concrete floor was a bit 'damp', so I put a damp-rid in the room and thought nothing more about it- bottom line, my washer has been draining into this small utility room and flooding for months! There is actually mold on one of the wall studs now! I'd noticed my new flooring warping near the furnace intake vent, but couldn't understand why. It's the only place in the house that my new flooring is warped, chipping. I know now it's from the water leaking under the furnace in the utility room and seeping under the laminate flooring! Am I stupid for not realizing this sooner- yes, I admit I am. Is Discount Drains responsible for their tech tampering with, and ruining my washer drain- yes, yes they are! They are also responsible for the mold that occurred and the small area of warped flooring as a result of their mistake. I have contacted them, and I was told they are sending someone out to, "dispute the mold." Not a very courteous response at all! If they repair/replace the washer drain so it functions properly as it did before they ruined it, and address the mold they caused as well as replacing the affected floor boards, I will remove this post, however if they refuse to repair the washer drain that their tech ruined, and clean/repair the mold, replace flooring, I will have no choice but to litigate for damages and will continue to strongly suggest not doing business with this company! I trusted them to do the job right, and instead they caused damage to my home with their incompetence! I'm super disappointed both in their workmanship and response to my issue!

We also hired them to run a new water line to put an outdoor hose in another location of our house. While it may seem odd to have a FaceTime quote, the process isn't that much different than someone who comes to your house and does a surface level check only to find out when they begin the work that things are more complicated than they seem. The good news about the process is that it helps expedite the process so our jobs were completed much more quickly than quotes from other companies (I.e. by the time the person schedules to come look, prepare a quote, and then schedule the project installation much more time has passed). Everyone we worked with was friendly, efficient, and professional. The bonus for us is that our second project was actually cheaper than they quoted because they found a much easier solution when they got behind the wall to see what had been covered up by previous owners. I would absolutely hire them in the future.

Finally got a text at the last minute to schedule . Two men came out and cleaned the gutters ( I guess they did a good job , I can't get up on a ladder and look). I asked for a leak repair , but they told me it couldn't be repaired , needed replaced .. which is fine . They charged me $275 for gutter cleaning ( kind of high , but ok since I couldn't do it myself) and then another $75 for repair, that was never done . Tried contacting them numerous times to get a refund of $75. No luck .
