However when they replaced my hot water tank several months…read moreago, unbeknownst to me, to make the new, larger unit fit, the tech shortened my washer drain. In doing so, the washer drain isn't tall enough anymore to properly drain, and there is a deeply curved 'trap', (that wasn't there before), that causes the water to rush back up and out of the drain. I had asked the tech at the time about all the 'left over' PVC pipe pieces, but he'd assured me it was from the old tank- when in fact it was actually my working washer drain that he'd removed and replaced with a shorter pipe, with a very curved 'trap'. He did this in order to make the new tank easier to install, he failed to reassemble the drain properly after removing it to install the tank. The back of the washer/drain/hoses/etc. are all in a separate room than the front of the washer. It's accessed clear on the other side of the house through a tiny door next to the fridge in the kitchen. I've went in there once to change my furnace filter months ago. I noticed the concrete floor was a bit 'damp', so I put a damp-rid in the room and thought nothing more about it- bottom line, my washer has been draining into this small utility room and flooding for months! There is actually mold on one of the wall studs now! I'd noticed my new flooring warping near the furnace intake vent, but couldn't understand why. It's the only place in the house that my new flooring is warped, chipping. I know now it's from the water leaking under the furnace in the utility room and seeping under the laminate flooring! Am I stupid for not realizing this sooner- yes, I admit I am. Is Discount Drains responsible for their tech tampering with, and ruining my washer drain- yes, yes they are! They are also responsible for the mold that occurred and the small area of warped flooring as a result of their mistake. I have contacted them, and I was told they are sending someone out to, "dispute the mold." Not a very courteous response at all! If they repair/replace the washer drain so it functions properly as it did before they ruined it, and address the mold they caused as well as replacing the affected floor boards, I will remove this post, however if they refuse to repair the washer drain that their tech ruined, and clean/repair the mold, replace flooring, I will have no choice but to litigate for damages and will continue to strongly suggest not doing business with this company! I trusted them to do the job right, and instead they caused damage to my home with their incompetence! I'm super disappointed both in their workmanship and response to my issue!

We also hired them to run a new water line to put an outdoor hose in another location of our house. While it may seem odd to have a FaceTime quote, the process isn't that much different than someone who comes to your house and does a surface level check only to find out when they begin the work that things are more complicated than they seem. The good news about the process is that it helps expedite the process so our jobs were completed much more quickly than quotes from other companies (I.e. by the time the person schedules to come look, prepare a quote, and then schedule the project installation much more time has passed). Everyone we worked with was friendly, efficient, and professional. The bonus for us is that our second project was actually cheaper than they quoted because they found a much easier solution when they got behind the wall to see what had been covered up by previous owners. I would absolutely hire them in the future.

However they charged an extra $400 for a permit and pipe modifications which are not covered by my policy. I am a contractor myself and the plumbing contractors I normally use ido better work for the money and would have brought the installation up to current code and installed an expansion tank to the water line. But they did not install the expansion tank. They charged an extra $400 for two flex hoses which should have been part of a normal water heater install. I did not think the inspection would pass but they must have the City of Columbus Inspector in their pocket because their mediocre installation passed. I felt ripped off. I will have to hire my usual plumber to correct this install as they were unwilling to do anything to address my concerns. See what they installed versus what I was expecting and used to.

Anyway, because there was on access panel to the tub, there was a charge for diagnostics, which was 1/2 absorbed into the cost of the job. The quoted price was about what I expected and he was a nice guy so, I hired him. He arrived on the scheduled repair day and communicated he would be late due to an emergency call. He arrived at the quoted time and got right to work. He made the job look effortless, which made me wonder why it cost so much, but then again, it is because he knows what he's doing! Before he took major steps in the job, he'd call me up to explain what he was doing. He cleaned up everything after his work was done and replaced the hole in the wall with nice moulding. Overall a clean professional job. It's warranteed for 1 year, but I don't think I'll be calling back with any issues. He mentioned in 22 yeard of plumbing he's only had to come back to a job 3 times. We had two showers we wanted old, dated tile removed and new, large profile tile installed. The…read moreshowers were simple and straightforward. Carifa supplied the Schluter materials and installed them (Kerdi Board wall substrate behind the wall tile and Ditra Uncoupling membrane under floor tile). These are without an equal. There was a lack of communication during the home visit to prepare a quote. It was disappointing. We almost cancelled the entire project with Carifa based off that experience. The Owner, Joe, got involved when I called the Carifa office after no response from the salesperson. Joe listened to my experience, took over preparing an accurate proposal/quote. An important detail to note: each homeowner is responsible to select and purchase any tiles and certain Schluter products like edge or transition profiles. You can work with any supplier you want. The salesperson will steer you to The Tile Shop. They said they used to work at The Tile Shop. We had already purchased our wall and floor tiles from Floor and Decor. Carifa's salesperson started telling me we had purchased factory defective materials and subpar materials; something that is not true at all!! We had not picked up the tile from Floor and Décor yet so they did not "see" our materials but made these disparaging remarks. Why did we continue with Carifa? Because they used the Schluter products and had the installation craftsman. After getting past the preconstruction details Carifa sent Paco who prepared the areas where work was performed by covering all floors and furniture with protection. The same day Paco demolished and removed all the existing wall tile and materials down to the framing. Paco is a hard working, focused worker who kept our home clean during the demolition phase. No dumpster was provided during demolition and demolished materials were piled on our driveway until a dumpster was delivered a day or so later. After demolition Jack and Pedro arrived to complete the prep work and begin installation of the Schluter wall and floor products. I recognized quickly that Jack is a talented craftsman understanding that the products being installed under the finished tile are key to the final product. Jack kept us informed with everything he was doing including asking for our input regarding installation preferences. I cannot say enough good things about Jack. After he completed all the installation Carifa advertises they perform a "final walkthrough." It's also in the proposal. Jack completed all installation on Wednesday February 25th. On Tuesday of the following week, March 3rd, I had no communication from anyone at Carifa. There were a couple things that Carifa did not perform; sealing the grout that the proposal said would be performed 96 hours after the tile was grouted and reinstalling our toilet removed to install new floor tile. I reinstalled the toilet. I emailed Joe at Carifa of these items and asked for a (credit) for the items not performed. I never got a reply. On March 3rd I contacted Tom, Carifa's project manager, and asked for a status update and requested a date for the "final walkthrough." Tom came out the next day, Wednesday March 4th; one week after Jack had completed all installation work. Tom acknowledged that Joe had received my request/email for the deduct for work not performed and forwarded it to Tom. He spent a few minutes (literally a few) looking at both showers. Having performed hundreds of similar "close out final inspection walkthroughs" on projects I was ready to bring my Carifa experience to some closure. 3 weeks after the "final walkthrough" I received a final invoice that did deduct what I had requested. I promptly (the same day) paid the balance due. There has been no "thank you for your business" nor any communication from Carifa whatsoever. Here's my point: people who choose Carifa are going to pay a premium price for the privilege of having work performed. Carifa may use the finest materials available and have craftsman like Jack installing materials, but when everything before and after Jack is bush league and amateurish it sours the experience and make no mistake about it: you are paying for service too. The bottom line: would I choose Carifa again? Maybe. Having more 4 decades of high end construction experience I have not often been "the customer" but I know what a customer is. I moved forward with my eyes wide open hoping I would get the end result I sought after: two showers that will provide years of trouble free use. I believe I received that. Each person who has read this far will need to make their own decision. Lots of Yelp reviewers did not have this experience. My Ratings: pre and post construction experience gets a One (1). The installation work performed by Paco, Jack, and Pedro: I give Jack a 10, but Yelp limits the highest choice to 5 out of 5. Overall Carifa gets a generous three (3).

It turned out better than we could have imagined. We are extremely happy with the craftsmanship and professionalism of all the workers and would definitely recommend Carifa Tile. Description of Work: We had the shower seat torn out and replaced with granite. The seat front, sides and shower basin were removed and replaced with tile.
