I finally had the opportunity to stop in here. This place is an adult toy store and I really liked it. This place is perfect to find things to put on your desk at work. Everyone has the mug..."World's Greatest Boss" but if you shop here you can get a Marsh mellow puking!!! Now that is a perfect addition to any desk. (I know it sounds bad but it is done really tastefully...pun intended) It was a bunch of fun to walk around and check out the different toys. I found a Hugh Heffner doll too. I wonder if Hef knows...he would love it. Attention marketing department...mail one to the Playboy Mansion. I also loved that one of the dolls had a brick mobile phone. I had to try and explain to my little one that cell phones were that big. Sad part is that the guy behind the counter also was learning from my story too. Am I really that old? Great use of space...there is also an art gallery here too. Ever since I moved with my aunt last summer, I've never had a chance to spend time with my niece. And so last week I decided to spend our time together this week, we were about to go home and we happen to pass by this store. It had a really good interior and has a lot of options to choose from. after almost an hour of choosing a bunch of toys we ended up buying plushies aside from that, Rotofugi has a lot of blind boxes, which are mystery boxes that contain different figurines from all types of artists and collections. We ended up getting 2 little cat figures and a cute chef-like dinosaur, we bought three blind boxes by the way. And of course, all of it ended up in my niece's room. Our experience here is what completed our day, we had so much fun unveiling the mystery item in our boxes. I would definitely swing by here some other time because this place is also perfect for kids at heart like me. read more

This is the perfect store for a grown up art kid who can still tap his inner child. The new(er) digs are great and allow you to more room to browse and concentrate on the merchandise, which features a little bit of everything. I really liked the collector t shirts with the local flare. I will warn you, I don't think this is the best place for kids. Teens maybe, little kids no. If by chance the toys aren't enough, there is a gallery in the back of the store featuring a mix of local and national artwork that you can view and sometimes buy. The store offers easy access, just about seven blocks west of the brown line. If you get the chance, you should stop by and check it out. read more

I hate to rain on the parade here: I like this store. I like the products, the gallery, even the store dogs. I especially like the Abe Lincoln eyepatch logo-ed T-Shirts. I have NOT had good interaction with the staff, which is profoundly sad. See, my Dad is pain to shop for and even harder to ship to. Dad is amateur-Civil War historian and retired cop who lives waaay out in a complicated red-state address somewhere right of Andy Griffith. I wanted to buy the Abe Lincoln shirt in his size that was not on the racks. I asked nicely where I might obtain it and was told by cash-register boy #1: "Online" Moi: "Please, I am getting this as a present. I really want to gift-wrap it for the holiday, I will pay for it in advance and if you can order this size and I will pick it up and mail it myself." Cash-register boy" Go online." Wow. With a winning personality and effort like that, no wonder he isn't Miss America! Unfortunately, the other two visits (yes I came back repeatedly- this is my bad) following were identical in experience, even with different people behind the counter. Really? No one can/will/wants to order this shirt, no one willing to call me if this size is in, no one wants to check to see if the size is in stock... frankly yelp, I had an easier and more pleasant time scheduling dental surgery! In conclusion, avoid the staff, go to Threadless where they also have cool shirts plus employees who will look things up for you with lots less attitude and are willing to accept your payment! read more

If you like Kid Robot, you'll like Rotofugi. It is one of the few designer toy stores in Chicago. The owners are really nice and they always have one of a kind pieces that can be hard to find. They have toys, clothing, gallery items, etc. Every two months or so, they have a gallery event where you can meet the artists behind the collections they present towards the west wall. I went here on a whim while on a day trip to Chicago. This store is fun, especially if you are into collecting figurines like Funko, Tokidoki, etc. I had a fun time checking out the different options. They had lots of Pusheen plush which were hard for me to ignore but I managed to avoid it. This store is dangerous! So many cute, small, cheap things. You can't stop! There are stickers, keychains, small figurines, buttons, patches, pins, notepads, and way more. All of these things are cheap but add up! I really liked the selection of art prints they had. I didn't have enough to purchase them at the time but wrote down a few of the artists so I can look them up later. The man at the register was very nice and helpful. I had picked up a capsule toy and thought it was like a blind box, but he said I could just open them up to make sure I got the one I wanted. It's a fun place to check out. I wouldn't say go way out of your way if you just want to look, but it's a good way to kill some time. read more

There really isn't a store like Rotofugi in Chicago. The items they carry are unique, funny, creepy, weird, silly and everything else in between. I have since moved, and Rotofugi is so much easier to get to now! Just walk out my door, hop on the Chicago 66 bus for about 10-15minutes, and it drops me off right at their door. I've been there twice in the past 2 weeks! The staff is always so nice and helpful, and there is always something new to check out. I always seem to get there just as they are closing the gallery, and I feel too bad to ask them to open it just for me, so hopefully one day I'll be able to check that out. Love this place. I absolutely adore this designer toy shop! I've been a fan of Shawnimals and Ugly Dolls for a few years now and finally got a chance to stop by this store. The selection is awesome - ranging from cute to funky toys. They would definitely be great gifts for people looking for something unique. There aren't any cookie cutter things in this shop. Also, the gallery in the back looked super awesome - I will definitely check that out since I got there pretty late Saturday and didn't have that much time to browse. Great toys at great prices. I'm still waiting to hear if they will get more of the Mia Wallace figurines for my desk, but even if that doesn't come to fruition, I'm sure I'll be happy with some other pop culture doll. This store is full, FULL, of interesting designer toys, paper products, Chicago-themed home decor/gifts, pens/pencils, art projects and a small rack of funky t-shirts. One section of the store is a small art gallery which is worth checking out too. I purchased a super cute pizza slice t-shirt for my son and a zip pouch made from recycled material for me. I don't know anything about collectibles or much of the nerdy stuff that's here, but I did buy an adorable plastic/vinyl figurine of Peanuts' notorious bossy gal, Lucy Van Pelt. I also picked up X-Files' Mulder & Scully figurines for my friend. From Disney princesses to aliens, these figurines are only $11 each and can perk up a cubicle or fancy pants office. T-shirts, tote bags, notepads, pens, and toys, toys, toys! This is a spacious spot that also includes lots of art on the walls and a separate space that hosts a small art gallery. You know I am really sad... I've been waiting for my Tokidoki Sandy plush since the day I ordered it, on August 4th... I still haven't received it yet. I got my Dunny vinyl toys from New York in the mail through USPS too and I got it last Saturday and ordered the same time I did at Rotofugi. Very disappointed, I just checked my tracking and it left on August 8th from FOREST PARK, IL. FYI: ; you might want to consider using Fed Ex Ground... them little toys ain't cheap and deserve a better shipping transportation than USPS. So, I got my Sandy doll on the 15th of August, finally. I never had a problem getting things though the mail, but the store offered different delivery options, yeah I guess it was my fault for not looking carefully... I added two more stars, and that is it for getting my package in good condition, and for having good products to sell online. read more

We had no intention of going to this store.... We wanted to grab a drink at Delilah's and they weren't quite open yet. So we decided to stop in to this store to kill like 15 minutes. Little did we know, we would end up spending almost an hour...in sheer amazement. They have so much cool stuff! Trinkets galore. A ton of cutesy erasers (my friend Mel grabbed the macaron ones). Little zipper pulls and figurines. A gun note pad! Buttons! ORIGAMI POSTCARDS! I really didn't think there was gonna be anything I'd want, but I actually found a print by Shannon Bonatakis that I fell in love with. I couldn't leave without it. I wasn't looking for art, I almost never buy art. I just couldn't help myself. Had to have it. They also have a couple of artists on display and there was a dinosaur piece up that I reallllly liked (just because I love dinos) but it was like $250 and I'm not rich. So glad Delilah's wasn't open yet, would have missed a really cool spot. I would go back just to look at the art work. read more

Great shop with the hottest toys for grown-ups. They carry unusual lines of Japan, Hong Kong, and US-designed vinyls. They also have one-of-a-kind stuffed toys and artwork. Owners are sweet as pie. Vinyls are like action figures, but they are for adults, not kids. Contemporary artists like Gary Baseman and Michael Lau are commissioned to design lines of these toys that retail anywhere from $4 for a mini to $100 or more for a jumbo sized one. The vinyls in an edition come out in unique quantities (and on the inside slip they tell you the percentages of each design made) so rarity is a built in factor. Because everything is boxed up so you can't see inside, you never quite know what you are getting unless the store owner takes a peek for you. I once gave one to a four year old who threw it across the room and never looked at it again. Lesson learned. read more

Almost every day I have off work, I want to come back in here! I first went in to get birthday presents for my boyfriend. I was pretty nervous, considering I had one day off to get all my shopping done. I was also new to this place and its prices, and I told myself going in that I was willing to spend $100 because the decor looked expensive, clean, and sophisticated... Well, I left having spent only $40 with a boatload of stuff! The woman behind the counter helped me pick out some awesome Star Wars things, but other than that, I found what I wanted right away. There's so many things that catch your eye, I have to say, there's really gotta be something in here for everyone, whether you're into designer toys or not. With the blind box figures, it's nice that they let you trade if you don't get what you want-- that sentiment is comforting to know when those Dunnys and Fatcaps start to add up. Also, do NOT miss the gallery upon your visit-- it's great, and it's always lovely to see the flourishing local art community on display. read more

A friend of mine from high school is getting married this weekend and I couldn't bring myself to get he and his future wife towels or any other sort of mundane "we asked for this at Target" kind of practical gift. I was pleased to see they also have the Friends With You plushie toys, such as Barby With Spirit Mask (Barby is known for his shyness and modesty. It's laid out well so you can see everything they have for that week, and the guy behind the counter was really friendly and nice. But they don't open until noon on Saturday? What the heck? It's pretty small inside, but packs seemingly hundreds of different japanese toys, shirts, stickers, and novelties galore! It's one of my favorite places to buy gifts, w/ the plush ninja doll and tshirt being my first purchases. The mini dolls are great, w/ quite the selection to choose from. You owe it to yourself to at least browse around... it's easy to pass an hour there checking everything out. Half the stuff makes me crack up, I def feel like a little kid again. A friend of mine first introduced me to Rotofugi and have been back many times since. Although this store is not a typical toy store for children, it's not such a bad idea if you or your friends have kids. It's a good break from shopping for Dora or Sponge Bob. For the most part, I come here to find that one unique gift for my friend's kids or someone I think that would appreciate it. Many times, I've been guilty of walking out the store with a gift for some kid and end up keeping it for myself resulting in a small tiny collection I've built.... It's so hard to resist! Shortly before Christmas, I jaunted across tundra and through gauntlets, searching up and down Michigan Ave and State Street, FAO Schwartz and suburban malls, book stores and boutiques... for an UGLYDOLL for my girlfriend for Christmas. For a long time, no luck. I traveled many miles and wore through many shoes. I fought nymphs and demons, and saw the true face of God. I felt the lash upon my shoulders and an acerbic throbbing through my legs. Not even Toys R Us had this item that I thought to be common. Then, I found Rotofugi. They had a MASSIVE, almost INTIMIDATINGLY SCARY selection of Ugly Dolls; small and large, the classic or the limited edition Ice Lodge... in edition to Gloomy Bear, Domo, and all the random what-have-ya that geeks in my life love. Plus, the prices were about the same as if you specially ordered them off the Intarwebz. What sucked, though, is after traveling miles and miles, from Schaumberg to the Mag Mile, Rotofugi turned out to be 6 blocks from my apartment. Shiver me eef-in' timbers. I do like the "Hackman" puking guy and the "Things That Hurt" zipper pulls. It makes my tough looking jackets warm and cuddly... like me. Addition: Damn you for being open late one night.
