Solid 3.5/4 star pub My bf and I popped in here after our tour guide recommended it. It was one of the few places opened late Thursday night. However, their kitchen closes at 11pm After walking 2.2 hours in the rain, I just wanted something filling and warm. My bf ordered their philly cheesesteak which came with a bunch of fries, and pickles. It was pretty solid. And he paired it with an old fashioned. I ordered the French Onion Soup. It was a bit salty, but that's expected. The cheese pull was I ordered their lavender espresso martini. Only had two sips before I accidentally tipped it over with the menu and it spilled everywhere :( Bartender was a doll. I've been to Rotten Ralph's many times, as it's one of my favorite neighborhood bars in Old City. They have a Saturday night happy hour starting at 7:00, making it my go-to for drinks on a Saturday night. Ericka is my favorite bartender there. If she is there you can be sure she got you when it comes to friendly service and a good drink. As far as the food goes, the Cheesesteak Eggrolls is my favorite dish. It's an appetizer I've had at many Philly establishments so I know theirs is one of the very best. The cheesesteak eggrolls are closely followed by the juicy wings. A neighborhood bar has to have good wings, and Rotten Ralph's has them. The mac & cheese is surprisingly good, just don't expect soul food restaurant cheesiness. They have an assortment of tasty panino sandwiches. I usually go with the chicken pesto panino, with fries. I always clean my plate. I did once get the pretzel bites, and the pretzels didn't have any salt on them. That was a huge miss. Rotten Ralph's can get crowded and loud on the weekends, especially if people are watching a game. But I always have a good time at Rotten Ralph's. If you stop by for Saturday happy hour you might find me sitting at the bar. read more

Decent dive bar in old city that's usually very busy on the weekends. They sometimes have their second floor open when it's busy. Could use a good cleaning inside. Have a few drafts on tap and some cocktails as well. Drinks are a bit pricey for a dive. For the food menu, they have a lot to choose from - smaller plates to a few sandwiches and such. Had the cheesesteak with fries which is $16 + $4 for fries, so $20 total before tax and tip for it didn't seem worth it. The quality was fine, but that's a bit much. I came at a quiet time looking for simplicity and adventure before strolling over to the Liberty Bell which in easy walking distance. The Philly Cheese Steak Eggs Rolls are definitely adventurous. The house salad was a tad bit more than I need. I opted for tonic water with lime but I suspect there is plenty of booze for my non-teetotaling friends. Five Stars all the way. read more

This place is dirty. Dust on the holiday decorations from the winter (its summer) and dust hanging all over it and over your food. They try to justify that a dirty drinking glass is ok, they don't have towels. Im sure the owner has something to say, but don't take my word - you can check this place out on Philly's health inspection site. They also offer Veterans discounts - wanna honor veterans? Small and decent bar in Philly, very less staff on the floor, an amazing bartender Ericka. The place seemed tiny with the bar filling up most of it, I think there are dining areas further inside but there is no one eating there. Everyone was at the bar. The only bar I went to in Philly that had someone check ID at the front door. We were there for drinks, had a few beers and an old fashioned, and Adios MF (custom made). The bar tender is really professional and friendly. She could make any drink you ask for. We also tried a couple of appetizers. Fries pickles and cheesesteak egg rolls, quantity size they are plenty and delicious. This place is a must try if you would like good drinks and light conversations at the bar. read more

Portions are huge. My grilled shrimp was served on a bed of rice. Too much rice as compared to shrimps. But a big bummer was due to the flies in the restaurant, maybe due to the heat. You had to constantly keep swatting it away. Not fun. read more

I've visited this place occasionally for 25 years. I've always enjoyed myself until this time. I thought I was safe ordering a Bloody Mary. They had no mix. I tried a CC Manhattan and the bartender seemed to have no idea what that was. I tried for an Old Fashioned using rye whiskey. I had to explain that rye whiskey was different from bourbon. I still like the ambiance but I'd advise you to drink only beer. read more

It's good to have a nice, straightforward place to get wings and beer in Old City. I enjoyed the wings. They're huge and crisped nicely. Some might think they're a little well done. I'd leave that up to you. Everyone at my table was pretty happy with their orders of cheesesteak egg rolls and burgers. I was particularly happy with the fries. Always avoided this place because if the name but finally went it. They had delicious food and creative drinks. They had me at fresh strawberry infused vodka, but when the beautiful fresh salad with goat cheese and strawberries arrived with the Mac and cheese we became actual fans. We will be back. This is a good spot to watch sports as they have many TVs. Only one person was working for the entire restaurant and she was definitely working hard! Come for the drinks, not for the food. Food was priced average for a dive bar but was pretty terrible. The fries were okay but a small serving. The smash burger was supposed to come out with two patties, lettuce, and tomato but came out on focaccia with one patty cut up. The chicken on the caesar salad was rank tasting (and cost$7 to add)- ended up taking it off. The flat bread pizza was not served on flat bread and we didn't finish it but didn't bother to take the leftovers to go. The first draft beer we ordered was warm and flat. I grew up in Philly, graduated college un Philly, and have fond memories. Unfortunately I came back and brought a date. Date went to rest room and in about 30 seconds a POC started beating on the door and told my date to "get her white ass and stinky white p**** out of the restroom. When staff was notified they said "she's local, and you guys have to go". Food was ok but we were only able to eat half, if that. Service was ok, barely. Nobody seems to enjoy working there. With a unique character to draw folks in, it was the perfect place to get a meal and a drink after a long of sightseeing and traveling. Stopped in here before a movie at the Ritz East. It happened to be happy hour and the drink specials were reasonable. We only grabbed a few beers before the movie but we did decide to go back after for some food. We ordered the veggie burger and a chicken cheesesteak. Both were cooked perfectly and had lots of flavor. Crowd was an after work type when we first went but after the movie it was pretty busy with a mixed crowd of families and locals. Came here at 10:17pm to have one drink before they closed. Knowing the rule rn for selling alcohol prohibits selling alcohol after 11pm I thought I would be served. When I entered the bar the bartender refused to serve me saying last call was at 10:30pm. When I reminded her that it was not yet 10:30pm, she still refused to serve me. Chicken Philly. They forgot the onions. It was dry as the Sahara. All bun no substance for $16.00. $4.00 for fries but they don't tell you that... it's a hidden charge. $8 a beer. Greasy. Tasteless. Avoid it. Yea... avoid it. If you want a beer and only a beer it's okay. read more

Wow, came in here to kill some time before going to the American Revolution Museum... luckily it was happy hour! Solid happy hour, with a variety of specialty cocktails that change seasonally. I had the blueberry whiskey jawn, and the Mr had the specialty mojito paint it black. First kudos for naming, second, great variety, last delicious. Definitely a spin on your standard drinks. We also got some beers and an appetizer of the pretzel bites. Overall great pricing, and great service. Bartenders are down to earth and fun.
