I've been here a couple of times since it's in the neighborhood close to me. I've had some great experiences and then had a not-the-best one the other night due to a heavy salt add-on with our food. I've had their beer selection, which usually includes a great sour. Also, the fish n'chips and tempura green beans are amazing. Service can be great some days, depending on who's working and the ambiance is the same. I've asked for music to be turned down on one occasion when my friends and I couldn't hear each other over the speaker near us, and no one would adjust it. So, best case is to level set that this is a typical bar and bar food and drinks. It's a nice quick stop if you want a drink and music vibes to boot. It's not the best quiet spot or for large groups. My boyfriend and I stopped by Prohibition Taproom before heading back to our Airbnb for the night. I had specifically chosen this spot because it was only about a two-minute walk from where we were staying--which was super convenient! But honestly, even if I'm staying further away next time, I'll definitely be making a point to stop by again. It's a cozy, fairly small bar with a relaxed vibe. It wasn't too crowded, and it felt like a lot of the patrons knew each other--which gave it a nice, neighborhood feel. We happened to come in on a Monday night, which turned out to be trivia night! We grabbed seats at the bar, and the server, who was super friendly and welcoming, invited us to join in. I'm not usually a big trivia person, but because of how warm and inviting the staff was, we decided to give it a shot. Now, my boyfriend and I didn't do great (okay, we totally sucked ), but we still had such a fun time. The woman running the trivia was so kind, even though we barely got anything right, and she made us feel like part of the fun anyway. All in all, it was a really great experience. The people, the service, and the atmosphere made it memorable. If you're in Philly, definitely stop by this bar--even if just for a drink and some good vibes. One of my favorite kind of places to frequent: no pretense - just great food, a stellar cocktail program, friendly bartenders, and genuine community vibes. I popped in after looking for a drink post-show at Philamoca. I buzzed over to that neon BAR sign like the fly I am and saddled up at the bar solo. After some deliberation, I went with an Aviation cocktail - gin forward with lemon and creme de violette. This did not disappoint. I was stuck between this option and the daiquiri they are serving up, and am looking forward to getting back and trying the bulk of this drink menu. Along with the food apparently?! I've watched the eagles game here now twice, once in Jan 2024 and the second time was this past Sunday. The first time (despite everyone in the bar being there to watch the eagles game) we had to ask twice to turn the game audio on on the TV's. Mildly annoying but the audio was turned on eventually. This time the manager refused because he "didn't like it". Apparently the TV's don't sync up and the audio lags, but I would've been fine with just one tv audio being on. I would've left to go somewhere else but I didn't want to ask all my friends go somewhere else too. I ended up downloading an app to hear the game audio on my phone. Waitress was perfectly fine and apologized on behalf of the manager even though it wasn't her fault, so my annoyance is with the manager not the other staff. Cheesesteak was great. read more

There were 4 spots at the bar, with 2 drinks evenly spread between them - the female bartender said the seats were taken. A few moments later, 2 people come in, grab these drinks -- and the female bartender told them to "sit apart, I don't what those girls here" - okay. Great way to make to not make money. read more

We got there and several seats at the bar were open and several tables were open but because we had come there to have drinks and not eat we were told we would have to stand. We stood for nearly 10 minutes waiting for one of the two bartenders to turn around and serve us, but they were instead having a conversation with one another with their backs turned to the bar for 10 minutes, after they turned around it took another 5 minutes for them to take our order. We eventually sat at the bar after several people left and nobody was coming in to eat. The place kept emptying out, and the policy to make people stand if they were just there to drink and not eat, seemed sillier and sillier. We weren't eating but I'll say that the Wait staff (not bartenders) were hussling. After our first round our second round also got off to a very slow start because one of the bartenders was leaving for the night and the remaining bartender had to leave from behind the bar to talk with the leaving bartender for another span of time. We only did the two rounds because of how slow service was. Not slow because it was busy, the place was only half full at this point, but slow because the bartender was talking with co-workers and paying 0 attention to bar patrons. The decor was nice and the beer selection was good. The food looked and smelled great, if I had not already eaten before I got there, I probably would have ordered food because it looked so good. I would come back to try the food, and hopefully get different staff, honestly the place would have been great if the Bar staff was more professional. read more

I can't believe I never reviewed this place. I just went here today for the first time in a few years. My wife used to be at 12th and spring garden so we went here more often but we kinda forgot about it. Life moved us out of that area. The food here is so awesome and I think it probably always will be. I got the fried chicken BLT with fries. It was so delicious. Also I don't know if you normally think about this but they really clean the tables between guests. I think most places just use a dry rag and wipe it on the floor. Not here. The table and chairs took time to dry before we could sit down. Craziest thing was we were there for dinner with six people. $174 total. You can't do that with two people at most places. If you haven't tried this staple of the neighborhood than you should. Helpful hint: Free parking on the other side of Spring Garden in window break alley. Just don't stay there after dark because it's aptly named. read more

I've been here on a few occasions. The interior looks like a dive bar (maybe because that's what it is) but a dive bar with one of the best jukeboxes on the planet. Staff are always welcoming and attentive. On my most recent visit, I had the Pro Tap Burger. A double patty smash burger with Cooper sharp and more. A perfect burger. A bit of crust, very juicy, toasted bun. Fries hot and crispy. When you think how you would want a quality bar burger, this is what you'd think of. Highly recommended. read more

Wow, what a refined tip top tasty tap, quiet and relaxed atmosphere that does so many things right, low level music, chef forward menu serving gastropub styled cuisine and familiar favorites, and a heartfelt draft selection, we all got it good here. The bartender did double as throughout. I noticed a chalkboard scribble for weekly kitchen creations and had to go for the baked gnocchi. The others did the essential east coast city Philly Cheesesteak, fried chicken Mac n cheese, grilled chicken, and we had to sample the popcorn Chicken which was all phenomenal. I know few places with such consistent good flavors from dark meats to creamy sauces. Popcorn chicken had a real nifty side sauce. My gnocchi was small but sublime. Others dived through all their dishes with high compliments to the fried, Cheesesteak, and my two drafts I dunked into. Parking is annoying even for a big city. Also please don't bring kids here. Totally would make myself a regular here if I ever migrated east of Indiana, this is the iconic mix of quality and easy going that doesn't thin the wallet too much. read more

Excellent food with great service. We had a large party and they easily accommodated us. I had the Triple B wings with sauce on side and the tempura string beans. Amazing crispy and delicious. Fries were solid too. Fiancée had the buffalo wings with sauce on side. Our friends had pretzel bites and burger. They have EVERYDAY HAPPY HOUR with a delicious tequila drink/punch. It is a corner bar that opens up and give you a great pub tavern feel and ambiance. I would absolutely return again and tell others. Even the bar was cute! Let's go! - Sure I get it, plenty of food/drink options in Center City, however- wanted to park once/walk to The Met - Not many food options on this side of the tracks - Smallish place, and yes packed at 6pm on a Saturday night - Cool vibe, bartenders were excellent- as was the beer selection - Food was spot on - Pricing was outstanding (ie- very reasonable) Bottom line- perfect choice for what I was looking for....and yes, next time back to The Met, I'd be back here. read more

We were seated right away; loved the ambiance--low lighting, fun place to chat. Ordered drinks, mine was an Old Fashioned which was fine; ordered the Mac n cheese w mushrooms, my friend got the mushroom "cheesesteak," and we got the pretzel bites w beer cheese to share. First off, the pretzel bites were weird because the pretzels were soft/sautéed in butter, and had way too much salt on them. The cheese sauce was fine. The mushroom Mac n cheese was disgusting; the cheese sauce was super soupy, the mushroom flavor overpowering (and I LOVE mushrooms!!) I can eat like a truck driver, so you know it's bad when I leave half my meal untouched. My friend's meal: the fries were squishy, undercooked, and covered in this weird green powder neither of us could place. The mushroom cheesesteak lacked flavor and was, as she put it, "not bad, but not great either." Before we left I used the restroom nearest the kitchen. First off, you can see a sliver of the bar through the "closed" and bolted door, so I imagine that goes both ways. The soap was out--hope the kitchen staff weren't using that bathroom!--and it's pretty gross when you have to shove your hand between the towel dispenser and the wall to get the towel crank to work. Just off of Broad Street, this venue has a dive bar feel. I stopped in during happy hour. The bar has table like extensions so you can face your friends. Pretty decent happy hour. I had the downeast cider. YUM! There were some snacks foods on the happy hour menu like popcorn (w/ butter) and green beans coated in with a crunchy breading. Holy moly. If you're gluten free, fried chicken is never easy to find. As a matter of fact, I had not had friend chicken for 3 years before finding out about Prohibition Taproom. When a gf friend told me I should try this place out I was ecstatic. My hopes were high because they had to be! It had been so long, that any crappy piece of chicken with some type of breading would have probably been good enough. But this fried chicken was not just any fried chicken. This fried chicken was really really really damn good. Super crispy coating and moist chicken on the inside. Still hot too, even though I got takeout. The best part of this fried chicken was I had it during a pregnancy craving. This local establishment is a staple for anyone in the loft district or really anywhere in Center City. It's a perfect local watering hole offering great drinks, a small but solid menu, and a friendly fun staff. I ordered the PENICILLIN which consists of scotch, cold-pressed ginger syrup, honey. fresh lemon juice, and a spritz of islay single malt scotch. It was delicious. We stared with an app of their POPCORN CHICKEN w/ CARTER SAUCE which was SOOOOO YUMMY! That sauce I would bottle up and use on everything! For dinner I has the FRESH PAPPARDELLE with consists of a wild forest mushroom ragu topped with herbs and parmesan. I will definitely say this pasta was homemade, which was to be expected. Yet, it did lack flavor, it definitely needed some pepper and garlic - however it still was pretty good. What won me over fully was their PRO TAP BURGER which consists of a miso-blended double patty, cooper sharp american cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, house dijonnaise, b&b pickle, and merzbacher's sweet potato bun. Kinda diggin' this place's outdoor seating. The sound of the rain against the tin roof was .. soothing. It was a great atmosphere for random debates with friends. The staff were extremely pleasant and checked in regularly. Overall the experience earned them a solid 3-star with a definite second chance visit. Calamari and gnocchi to start. Those went over well. I personally liked the calamari, the sauce balanced nicely but have never been a fan of gnocchi so I will withhold opinion there. We ordered the burgers. Which were undercooked when we asked for well. The garlic aioli went great with the fries. The chicken sandwiches did not go over well as neither Amy's A&C's finished them. They had some nice beer options on the menu, but about 5 options were not available. Our waiter Trish was accommodating and allowed us to sample some of the beers and walked us through the food menu. My 2 friends ordered the chicken sandwich which sounded good, but on the contrary was actually bland and lacked any type of excitement. I had the mac and cheese. Had a decent flavor, but also wasn't all that great. Overall, the food was okay, nothing special. The ambiance was quiet and low lighting with games playing in the tv. Ive been to this place for dinner once but what I really love coming to this place for is happy hour, definitely a great happy hour selection and price. It is very reasonably priced, staff are lovely (they try to be attentive but it can get out of hand. Last time I was here I had one server ask if I needed anything, I asked for more water. While waiting for my water another staff member came and asked me the same thing...this happened 3 or 4 times, I felt a little bombarded) and I love the unpretentious vibe (I read another review that said "small town bar feel" and I absolutely agree)...just solid snacks and drinks. Inside is quite dark, but sometimes I'm not into that so I prefer to sit outside. I MUCH prefer their outdoor seating for enjoying some wine and people watching.
