Our little combination of food and drinks

Super clean and a hidden gem! Service was good but after the waitress said she was making a Fresh pot of coffee, she never gave me a refill. We grabbed a bite and the Portions are very Large. A great value for your money! The Large house salad was amazing and the chicken quesadillas had an Adobo sauce that was great. The loaded Tator Tots were Amazing and nice people there.

Race Street Café is a bistro and pub that opened in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in November 1999. It was founded by business partners Neil Campbell and Stacy Wessel. The menu features a variety of classic pub staples including burgers, sandwiches, pasta, seafood, soups, salads, and various bar bites. The bar also carries a dozen craft beers on tap at any given time as well as wine, craft cocktails, and a large supply of bottles and cans. My family and I recently stopped at Race Street Café for lunch. We were in Philadelphia for a few days and we found the small pub not long after arriving to the city. The small rustic café features heavy wooden beams, a wood stove, a gas street lamp, and exposed brick. In addition to the regular menu items, Race Street Café also has quite a few chalkboard specials each day. After looking over the impressive craft beer selection, I ordered a pour of Big Oyster Brewery's "Whale Song" (Fruited Sour). It's brewed with a nice blend of fresh blueberry and peach puree; very refreshing! For food, I had the "Brisket Sandwich" (slow cooked sweet and sour brisket, cheddar and jack cheeses on a Pugliese roll), my wife had the "Buffalo Chicken Sandwich" (breaded & fried chicken breast tossed in buffalo sauce with lettuce, tomato and red onion on a brioche bun), our older son had the "Kids Fish & Chips", and our younger son had the "Kids Chicken Tenders & Fries". Everyone really enjoyed their food and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. If you're looking for a nice lunch spot in Philadelphia's Old City, we highly recommend Race Street Café!

What a fun bar/restaurant! Started with a flight since they serve craft beers. Absolutely loved the darks! And one had a grapefruit taste, which I enjoy! We ordered the favorite here, meatloaf sandwich. The sauce was delicious and the meatloaf had a great flavor. We also tried the Pork Italiano with the best part of it being the spinach. We did ask for sweet potato fries but got regular French fries. We also asked for our server to take a photo of our group and she said sure but never did, we also asked for a childs water and ranch which we never got. The bartender was very helpful and knowledgeable.

Little small dive bar feel inside but the food is top grade. Packed with flavor and love. We sat at the bar which seats maybe 10 people so very small. Few tables inside as well and if you're lucky enough you can sit next to the fireplace on a cold afternoon. The brisket sandwich was juicy and the bun was toasty to keep it together. The dipping sauce on the side was very good and shoestring fries were an easy 8.7 Chicken sandwich didn't disappoint as well. My girlfriend doesn't like the buffalo sauce so she got chipotle mayo on the side to put on. Sweet potato fries were salty and crispy. Wait staff was kind along with the bartender and cooks. Very nice people.

Brisket Entree. I'd skip it. But the Twice Baked Potato was bomb.

Definitely a fun place to find yourself! Parking is rough, so I would suggest parking on Columbus. It's paid, but it's cheap. Like six bucks for almost 4 hours. The inside is definitely more bar looking than café. The food was excellent. I always sleep on a basic burger, but I regretted that today ha ha. The race Street burger is simple, but done so well. Delicious, toasted brioche bun with a massive. Mmm. I got the brisket and the twice baked potato accompaniment was fantastic. It could've been its own appetizer. Beer is great, service is chill. Definitely cool.

Went here for lunch during the week on an off day because my neighbor recommended! The service was attentive and quick - the restaurant wasn't completely full but it was pretty busy. Food came out pretty quickly as well. I'm a plain Jane so I went with the quesadillas a little too much chicken for my liking but flavor profile was great and it reheated well when I took home what I couldn't eat. Sour cream was extra but guacamole was included. My boyfriend got the brisket sandwich. He raved that the fries were cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The brisket he like the texture and the temp the meat was cooked with but said Brisket was a little too sweet - but the sauce on top was not to sweet and helped. His also reheated well for leftovers - and you definitely can't say that about just any sandwich! We checked out on a QR code which made it really speedy!

Absolutely love this place. Wonderful hidden gem in Olde City, tucked away at the end of - you guessed it - Race Street, practically under the bridge. I don't live in Philly but it's one of my go to places when I'm in the city because it never disappoints. It's a gorgeous small space with dark wood everywhere that adds to the atmosphere. There's also a wood burning stove (real or gas, not sure) that was a welcome sight after stumbling in from walking in 28 degree weather. Came here for dinner last night with my girlfriend. Every table was filled so it was a nice atmosphere, but it wasn't super loud or crazy. We each had a beer from the excellent list of draft beers, and she got the brisket sandwich while I got the meatloaf sandwich. They came out quickly and we loved them both. We will be back!

As a Northern Liberties resident, I've visited Fringe Bar several times and have generally enjoyed the experience before my recent experience with the manager. Unfortunately, my visit on June 13 around 4:30 PM completely changed my opinion of this establishment. My friend and I were seated and waited nearly 20 minutes before our food order was taken. Our server explained that their ordering system had gone down.... We were understanding and patient but to be honest it felt like she forgot. About 10 minutes later, we finally received our drinks, and our server shared that management had continued assigning her additional tables despite the issues, making it difficult for her to keep up. We sympathized with her and gave the staff plenty of grace. After waiting another 30 minutes, nearly an hour total since arriving, we still had not received our food. What made the situation even more frustrating was watching another table that arrived roughly 30 minutes after us receive their meals before we did. At that point, I approached Henry to ask about our order. I explained that we had been waiting for nearly an hour and that guests who arrived significantly later had already been served and they needed to hurry up with our food because we were hungry. Before I could even finish speaking, Henry interrupted me, stated that he would comp the food, and told us to leave. All I wanted was an explanation and asked that our order be prioritized after such a long wait. Instead of attempting to resolve the issue, Henry immediately escalated the situation and effectively removed us from the restaurant. The interaction felt dismissive, unprofessional, and completely lacking in customer service. Even another manager appeared surprised by how quickly our order was canceled and how the situation was handled. The entire experience left me feeling unwelcome and disrespected. Mistakes happen. Delays happen. What determines whether customers return is how management responds. Unfortunately, Henry's arrogance, poor communication, and inability to handle a reasonable customer concern ensured that I will never return. The attached photos include timestamps documenting our visit and the lengthy wait and a photo of Henry so you can avoid him. DO NOT COME.

We were coming from the festivsl and hadn't eaten much all day, so we decided to start with ordering food. We waited at three different bars before finally ordering, only to be told they were out of the item I paid for. When I tried to reorder, the bartender completely forgot I had already paid and never put in my replacement order. After finally realizing that she hadn't put my order in after 45 minutes, I asked for a refund. Her way of making it right was giving me a dry, unsauced 6-piece wing (which wasn't what I ordered - my replacement order was a 12pc wing tossed in "cav's sauce" which was around the same price as the egg rolls I ordered and paid for). I asked for a refund AGAIN and she said she'd have to get a manager. The bartender avoided me and the barback ignored me. At this point I was livid. After never getting my proper order, watching people around me eat and leave, being ignored, and NEVER speaking to a manager, I raised my voice out of frustration. Instead of her trying to rectify the situation, she calls security on me. I was escorted out by security without a chance to explain. Even after showing proof that I only ate part of the food because I was STARVING and explaining the situation calmly, the manager refused a refund. With the help of Yelp, we found this place. First off, the building that houses National Mechanics is absolutely beautiful inside and out, and for good reason. The pub/restaurant occupies the old Mechanics National Bank, a majestic Greek Revival building, built in 1836. Inside the restaurant, the surroundings contrasted greatly with the outside. The large, primarily wooden interior has the feel of a vintage pub. It is equally as beautiful as the front. The service at National Mechanics was great. Though the staff was clearly running shorthanded, every employee we came into contact with served us with a smile and couldn't be friendlier. The food, at least on that day, was mediocre at best, unfortunately. While the menu was filled with all sorts of tempting dishes that already made us thinking of future visits, we opted for the Mexican Burger and the Ribeye Cheesesteak, two twists on old pub standbys. Sadly, we were both disappointed in our meals. We did start off on a bright spot, food-wise. My friend and I opted to share the Batter-Fried Pickled Green Beans, which were fabulous! Too bad the good food ended there... The description of the Mexican Burger sounded amazing, with avocado, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, Monterrey Jack cheese, and chipotle mayo. My friend said it was kind of bland and it was quite greasy. My ribeye cheesesteak did not match well with its "Amoroso" roll and the steak itself was dry. In the end, we were both disappointed in our choice in a lunch spot. Perhaps it was the large crowd of diners and little staff that made it all come out a little...off. In the end, I'd try National Mechanics again if I were in the area, as the atmosphere and service made it a cool spot to dine in. Hopefully the food will be better next time.
