They have an excellent selection of shoes, packs, and all other gear to serve PCT thru-hikers, climbers, and everyone else enjoying the outdoors in their own way. The prices are super reasonable, and the hours are convenient. Ben was extremely helpful in recommending some trail running shoes, getting me outfitted, and giving tips about local trails. It was a busy time when I was shopping and he was super friendly with everyone, making sure they got what they needed whatever their activity. You can also buy your Adventure Pass here to park at trailheads. Make this your first stop when you are scoping out adventures in Idyllwild.

Most people in this town had no clue what I was talking about. I would just bring my own but...you can fly with a fuel canister. My usual go-to for camp fuel when traveling is Ace hardware. Usually my first stop in Hawaii is the nearest Ace for camp stove fuel. The one here, not only did not have it...they didn't know what it even was? Anyway, the guy working here was really sympathetic to my cause. He said it's hard to get because the locals only hike in the summer and are too scared of the cold to hike in the winter so...people stop carrying backpacking fuel. Hilarious, if true! (it was in the 30's at my camp on San Jacinto, great sleeping and stove cooking weather!)

The customer service at this store is exceptionally good. I was looking for a last minute item for my tennis racquets (vibration dampeners). I called first to see if they carried the item. David answered the phone oh so professionally, and politely. A minute later, David had the item in his hand and provided me with two brands. He was very detailed and thorough. The next morning, I came by to pick up the item. A masked David greeted me upon arrival. It's the Pandemic 20' era. I was happy to see Big 5 employees and customers comply with the current health & safety regulations. I made a lightening bolt move toward the section displaying tennis racquets, and David followed me to check if I needed assistance. Kudos to David for his excellent customer service skills! The store is tidy, clean, hassle-free, and with ample parking. I recommend shopping here for your sporting good needs.

When we had to reschedule for a different date, and they were able to accommodate with no issue over the phone. For hydro bikes, we were able to bring our two dogs. They do not have life jackets for the dogs, but they recommend having your dog's harness, in a case they fall in. They do offer lift jackets for humans. They only had paid parking in the back and spaces were limited as it's shared with restaurants and people who come to fish here. The hydro bikes also has a place to put your water bottles and a small storage. We had great time renting from Disco. I think my dogs enjoyed it as well.
