I was so pleasantly surprised with Roux, it's been a very long time since I've found a well done brunch spot in SLC and this is exactly what I've been hoping to find more of. Very well done food, potatoes and classic Benedict were good, gnocchi was great, though I feel like there could be more dynamic in the flavors -the sage really made the dish beautiful and we really enjoyed it. Ambiance is perfect, lots of thought put into it and had one of our favorite waitresses in awhile so service was above and beyond. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying dinner. We tried another spot the following weekend for brunch and wished we had of just gone back to Roux again lol. Thanks for putting in the thought, effort, and work to creating something beautiful for SLC. We'll definitely be back.

The food was amazing, and the ambiance was fantastic. The service was a little slow, however they checked on us constantly, and ensured we had plenty of water and bread while they worked on our meals. Will absolutely be back!

Mostly great food, but heavy-handed on the salt. We enjoyed our dinner at Roux last night. Our waitress, Alex, was an absolute treat from the moment we arrived-- seriously a gem of a human being. Our group of 6 attempted to order everything on the small menu and almost succeeded. Standout dishes were the potato pavé, trout ceviche, apple pecan salad, and hanger steak. I tried everything except for the chicken and pappardelle pasta. My trout entree was nice, but the farro that came on top of it was extremely salty. I also wasn't super impressed with the presentation. While we're on the topic of salt, my wife had the mushroom agnolotti, which may have been the saltiest dish I've tried in years. It was nearly inedible. I told Alex how salty these dishes were and she was apologetic and said she would relay the message to the kitchen. I hope they were receptive to the feedback. We all thought the cocktails were good, along with the bread & butter. The restaurant has a nice intimate vibe, fitting for a variety of occasions. Will I plan a return visit? Probably not soon.

This is a charming little space tucked in to 300 south. You might miss it but it's worth trying it out. The menu is delightfully as the space and the service is attentive but not annoying. We tried the funeral potato pave, a unique take on a classic Utah dish. Brussels sprouts were delicious and a must. For the mains we had, roasted chicken, duck gnocchi and the pappardelle. All tasty and different enough from what you think, that you should try it. Dessert was a cheesecake and butterscotch pudding. Definitely want to try their brunch menu, so I will be back. Make a reservation this place can fill up and parking in the back or on the street.

What a quaint and cozy little space with some flavorful, quality food. The staff was so friendly and wonderful, it just took a long time for our food to come out. We actually came to try the burger, which they no longer serve during dinner, we were so bummed. We started with the Brussels sprouts and the potato pave. Brussels sprouts were amazing, the harissa spice gave them the perfect kick. The potato pave was so good, crispy outside, soft middle, au gratin on crack. Our table ordered many entrees to try a little of everything. Brown butter trout, trout was so good, but the faaro over powered the dish a little 5 spiced glazed chicken was delicious. Moist chicken, slightly crispy exterior, and the accompanying veggies were perfect. Hanger steak, was great, and the Demi glaze I could drink. They had a slow roasted pork special for that night, and everyone loved it! Papppardelle pasta with sausage was yummy, the thick pasta perfectly cooked. Local mushroom agnolotti- was our favorite pasta dish, rich, creamy, flavorful, incredible Potato gnocchi- excellent, so rich. I wish we had room for dessert, maybe next time, looks like we need to come back for lunch to get the burger.

This was hands down the best dinner I've ever had in Salt Lake. If I could give Roux more than 5 stars, I would! We came on a Friday night and we couldn't believe this place wasn't packed with people with a line out the door. Get your butts to Roux people! The bread and butter came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. We started with the funeral potato pave with a crispy potato on a bed of the most delicious sauce I've ever had. So delicious we begged for the recipe and ordered a second one. My partner got the burger and said it was the best burger he's ever had in his life. I got the mushroom agnolotti and it was incredible. We ordered extra bread to dip in our leftover cheese sauce. There was indoor seating, and we chose to enjoy the night out on the patio, which was lovely. Our server was absolutely incredible. I can't wait to come back and have already told so many people about this place. Thank you for an incredible experience!

Let me tell you... This food was some of the best food I've had in a very long time. I am a picky eater and when I sat down and saw this menu, I was super worried that I was not going to find anything to eat. There were spices that I didn't know, Sauces that I didn't know. But oh my goodness the food was so tasty. There were so many layers of seasoning. I had the chicken dish and the chicken was cooked to perfection. The Brussels sprouts and funeral potatoes were so good I could have eaten those for a meal only. Then the desserts?!?? I was so full but I had to keep eating!!! Everything we ate was absolutely delicious! I was so happy that my friend chose this place and I cannot wait to take people to this restaurant who come from out of town.

We came to enjoy my wife's birthday. She loves Roux because of its fresh ingredients and farm-to-fork nature. This trip didn't disappoint. The focaccia is always incredible. Made in house, you'll want to keep eating more and more of it. But save room for appetizers! I despise beats, but my wife made me try hers and I can honestly say I'm a beet-liever of their version which also had goat cheese. I enjoyed the pork belly that had a perfect crust to it and some Italian green sauce that was out of this world. For the entree I tried the Gnocchi. It was like a Time Machine of nostalgia that brought me back to my days in Uruguay. The sauce was reminiscent and the potato based dough of the pasta was nice. My wife ordered the flank and loved it paired with the broccolini. The flavors abound in all their dishes and create a culinary experience that you must come and try for yourself.

The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. Our server asked if we would like recommendations, when we said yes she spent time to explain popular dishes. The apps were delicious, we got the harissa Brussels sprouts and the pave potatoes. The Brussels sprouts were literally the best I've ever had! All four of us got different entrees and all were delicious. Then came dessert.... The basque cheesecake was good, BUT the sticky toffee carrot cake was amazing!!!! In all honesty I got back and just order the Brussels sprouts and carrot cake and be a happy man!

I love me a farm-to-table restaurant, especially close to home. Roux provides a modest menu of seasonal dishes, each one specially curated and selected for the best dining experience they can offer. Reservations are recommended, especially on the weekends, since it's a very small place. They've turned a darling old house into a restaurant and the intimate feeling adds to its charm. Service is welcoming and friendly, but not over the top or intrusive. The food was delicious and flavorful. I appreciate that they could make a modification for me and make a dish without cheese-often chefs take offense to that, and I apologize. But I didn't feel bad making this request here. My favorite part of the meal may have been the bread, surprisingly. I'm not certain what it was, but it was delectable. I had to restrain myself from eating more, otherwise I would spoil my appetite.

Excited to try Roux but left disappointed. I miss Farm to Table restaurants from my home city, so was excited to try Roux. As we walked in, several people saw us but no one moved to welcome us or seat us. It was as awkward that no one acknowledged our arrival in such a small space. The beer offerings could also use some improvement. If Beer Advocate rates an offering less than 85, any folks who like a good beer aren't biting. Started with the Brussels Sprouts, but found them incredibly oily and too spicy. The water could t be refilled fast enough. If you don't like vegetables and want a vegetable then you'd like these. As a vegetable lover, I wanted some taste of sprout and green left! We also had the trout and agnolotti. The mushroom agnolotti was warm and comforting, rich and good depth - would order again. The trout , not so much. So salty it was hard to eat though I enjoyed the slaw. It is a whole fish but so many bones near the head, I would have preferred just the body. Overall meh. Would have to hear they've taken it to the next level I we were to return, We also noted several areas where pictures should've been but just the screws in the wall and an obviously dead plant in the corner- didn't bring the ambience we were hoping for.

We went to Roux in downtown SLC (515 E. 300 S.) for date night earlier tonight after seeing some positive reviews. Overall, we enjoyed the food and the service was amazing. Bread is complementary, and I was stoked because I love bread. We really loved our appetizers--the braised pork belly with maple poached pear ($16) and the funeral potato pave ($9). For our main courses, I enjoyed my pasta dish--the local mushroom agnolotti ($24). It was super pricey for the small portion. My husband was not a fan of the hanger steak ($38). I tried a bite and it was overly salty and tasted burnt. Being the trooper he is, he finished it anyway and we didn't complain. All the cocktails were good, but nothing to write home about. I'm not sure if I would come back. The place felt super cramped, the lighting was bright, the music was odd, and the dining room was super loud as it filled up. The treacherous parking lot has four spaces (we snagged one, being the second table to arrive at 5 p.m.), but plenty of street parking. I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic date night. They mentioned having weekend brunch, but the menu looked pretty basic so we're not sure if we'll go yet.

This has gotta be one of the most underrated brunch spots in Utah. We had the roux breakfast which had home fries, eggs, sausage, and a biscuit. Eggs were prepared terrifically, the home fries were fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, the sausage tasted great as well. The freaking biscuit though, my gosh, amazing! Layers of buttery goodness. Do get it. Pancakes were also good, fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside.

The restaurant clearly aims for an elevated dining experience, and there's a lot to appreciate in the overall presentation and ambiance. That said, the experience landed more in the "good" than "exceptional" category for us. The dining room was noticeably loud, which made conversation a bit challenging at times. While the food was well presented, the pricing felt a little ambitious relative to the overall quality. Several dishes were extremely heavy on the Parmesan Reggiano--to the point that it overpowered some of the intended flavors rather than complementing them. The service team was kind and well-meaning, though some interactions felt slightly awkward rather than naturally polished. Overall, Matteo delivers a solid dining experience with a lively atmosphere, but at this price point, I was hoping for a bit more refinement and balance. Still a worthwhile visit, especially if you enjoy a vibrant Italian dining scene.

Only complaint would be leaving the tails on shrimp - basically have to deconstruct the dish to get them off. This is very common though so not a huge deal. I liked that the entrees come with a house salad to feel like a solid meal. The smokey pineapple cocktail was a little sweet for me but liked that there were some interesting options. Unfortunately, the food is where the experience dropped from a 5-star service rating to a 3-star overall rating. The fish was overwhelmed by a heavy tomato sauce that masked the flavor of the fish itself. The gnocchi was overcooked and swimming in sauce, resulting in a disappointing entrée. We also had a special entree of beef tenderloin with mushrooms, shaved potatoes, and an oxtail sauce. We shared it because OMG food coma, which was a great call. One of my requirements was cocktails, and those looked pretty good from what I saw on Yelp. The menu was intriguing as well. I knew I wanted to try the tuna tartare for sure. I made a reservation for us for 18:30 and we were greeted with a smile and quickly seated. The ambiance was beautiful. I loved the giant tree in the middle of the dining room, and the seats were so chic and comfy. There is a parking garage, so no need to worry about parking either. Our server promptly greeted us and we placed our order for our cocktails and the tuna tartare app. I went with the Truth or Pear (I'm a sucker for anything pear related) and my husband went with the Mezcal old fashioned. Both arrived to our table shortly before the complimentary bread did. That bread was oh so warm and fluffy, and came with the most delightful herb oil to dip in. The cocktails were good, smooth and well-balanced. The tuna tartare was next to arrive, and it was plated wonderfully. I was very excited to dig in. The bread was toasted to perfection, and the tuna was seasoned with the most delightful citrus notes, just as stated in the menu. It was a perfect combination of flavors, and my favorite dish of the evening. The portion was also generous in my opinion, and we definitely savored each bite. As far as our entrees, we both wanted pasta, and the bison rigatoni caught my eye immediately. The spicy rigatoni spoke to my husband as well, so that's what we both ended up ordering. The pasta was quite decadent, especially mine with the ricotta. We noticed a lot of people packing up leftovers, and quite frankly, if we weren't so hungry, we probably would have had leftovers as well. While the sauce was overall good, it was a little monotone. The rigatoni was also a little overcooked. I honestly expected more, especially coming from CA, where I am no stranger to quality pasta dishes hailing from restaurants in Carmel, Half Moon Bay, and similar towns. We left with our bellies full, and the service was great, but I wished our pasta dishes were better, especially for what we paid (which was comparable to what I've paid in CA, mind you). The tuna tartare was most definitely the highlight of our meal. The next time we're in SLC, I'd come back for the tuna tartare, but it looks like I'll need to do a more thorough search for restaurants that serve better pasta.

Our server was quick to apologize, had a fresh entrée prepared right away, and even comped the meal, which was greatly appreciated. The replacement dish came out hot and was much better. I also enjoyed a glass of red wine that paired nicely with dinner, and the complimentary bread was absolutely delightful--fresh, warm, and a great way to start the meal. One of my favorite touches was the beautiful cherry blossom tree in the center of the restaurant. It creates such a unique and inviting atmosphere and really adds to the overall dining experience. While there was a small hiccup with the food temperature, the excellent service and attention to making things right turned it into a positive experience. I would definitely return.

Found Urban Hill on social media and was excited to get a dinner reservation last minute. My…read morepartner and I were visiting from out of town for our anniversary. They asked if we were celebrating anything when making the reservation and we noted the event, not thinking anything of it. Little did we know it was going to be a complete experience! Curated menus saying happy anniversary, dessert and even a Polaroid picture for us to take home. Truly a one of a kind night. The food was incredible also! We started with the potato gnocchi & sticky rolls which were amazing to share and had fantastic flavor. I got the sea bass as an entree and my partner got the chicken - both fantastic choices! The dessert though was incredible. The baked Alaska was another great highlight - they lit the dessert on fire, which was a fun addition. To our surprise we got a celebratory dessert as well which was so yummy. Overall, truly an amazing meal and experience! So grateful to Urban Hill for making our anniversary one we won't forget.

Food was just okay for the price. Service was very slow and we were really quite neglected compared to other tables. Brunch for 4 took over two hours and it was over 30 minutes before someone showed up to take our orders. This is really more of a 2.5 star rating but you know how Yelp is. The food was decent, just not outstanding by any means and the place is beautiful and reasonably comfortable. I feel like this places focuses too hard on pretentious "fine dining" details while completely neglecting the basics. Prompt service and food that tastes good. I will give the disclaimer that this review is now over a year old at the time of posting. I hope that things have improved in that time.
